2011 Mac Mini w/Intel HD3000 video signal loss on HDMI and Thunderbolt?
I've had this issue since I first purchased my Mac Mini back in August. I also discussed this issue with a friend who just purchased a Mac Mini too, and he has the exact same problem. When connected to my monitor via HDMI, the screen will flicker to green, go out, then come back on. Sometimes I have to cycle my monitor input button before the screen returns. Also, if I connect to my monitor via DVI to Thunderbolt adapter, the screen flickers to "snow", then cuts out intermittently. It's the same problem either way. I'm connected to a new Asus VE276Q 27" monitor. I connect my Xbox and PC to the same display with no issues whatsoever. This is my first Mac product and I'm VERY frustrated with this problem. A firmware update was released a few months back regarding flickering when connected to an Apple Cinema display, but this had no effect on My machine. I've also verified the display refresh rate setting as well. Anyone else out there having this problem?
I recently got the 2.3 GHz Mac Mini. I tried hooking it up to a Viewsonic VX2035 with the enclosed HDMI DVI converter. I get the same results as you. Nothing on the monitor. It says no analog signal detected. Then the monitor goes into sleep mode. I hooked it up to a 32" Westhinghouse HDTV using a HDMI cable and it works fine.

Mac mini AV reciver no video signal
Hello, i have a problem with mac mini and AV reciver Cambridge audio Azur 650R.
Everything worked fine at least one year. After that my reciver has gone. My dealer took and repaired it. After that i connected my mac mini into same HDMI input(on AV reciver) and it shows only black screen, sometimes it shows very bad picture of my desktop (under one second) and than it shows only coloured blinking cubes. When i connect to that concrete HDMI input (on av reciver) different source (my laptop, blu-ray player, etc.). Everything works well.
But when i connect mac mini (different mac mini from my house) it shows as i describe higher, too.
When i connect via VNC on that mac mini. And i go to video settings, i see that mac mini detect this AV reciver and shows it as 650R.
Has anyone similiar issue? Or some advice how i could solve this issue?
Please, i am lost:(
Thank you
DanielHi,
I also have just bought a brand new mac mini with OS X Lion Server pre-installed.
If I connect my mac mini HDMI to the Cambridge Audio 650R in Video 1 IN, and connect the 650R HDMI out to a Panasonic AE-4000, then I also see a black screen.
I also am at a loss as what to do about this, as the purpose of buying the mac mini is to act as a home theatre system.
Please help!

Need to split video signal to both HDMI and VGA
I am hosting an event and the venue has given me a really tough challenge. I need to send a video signal from my Macbook Pro 15"(the highest spec, latest model) to a projector that only accepts VGA and to an A/V system that only accepts HDMI(this A/V system broadcasts the signal to several flatscreen TVs throughout the venue). Here are my two ideas, can anyone tell me if this will fail and if so, are there any other solutions?
Idea 1: Use a mini-display to VGA adapter, split the VGA cable with one VGA cable going to the projector, and the other VGA cable going through a VGA to HDMI adapter to the A/V system
Idea 2: Use a mini-display to HDMI adapter, split the HDMI cable with one HDMI cable going to the A/V system and the other going through an HDMI to VGA adapter to the projector
Idea 3: Rent another projector that accepts HDMI, use a mini-display to HDMI adapter and split the HDMI cable, with one going to the projector and the other to the A/V system(this is the most expensive option and I want to avoid this if possible)
The event is tomorrow evening, and I need to buy these cables today if possible. Would love to hear any ideas, thanks!!!Yes. All video and audio outputs are always active.

4K videos stutter on 2011 Mac Mini with AMD 6630
I have a Dell 4K monitor and while it works perfectly with MDP to MDP cable @ 2160p and plays back videos up to 1080p with no issues, trying to play 4K movies or trailers results in choppy, video that is virtually unplayable. Is this a function of the video card or a combo of the i5 and video card. Of course videos play correctly on my Windows gaming laptop.
Cheers,From the 2011 Mac Mini Tech specs:

Mid-2011 Mac Mini won't output 2560 x 1600 to my Dell U3014
Hi,
I recently purchased a Dell U3014 30" monitor. I've been using it with my PC via Dual-Link DVI without a hitch.
I decided to plug my mid-2011 Mac Mini into it using a MiniDisplayPort-to-DisplayPort cable. My mac recognises the monitor, but won't output at 2560 x 1600, the monitor says it isn't receiving a signal.
If I change the display settings to 1080p the monitor comes to life.
Any help would be appreciated.

Can you use PC-1066 memory in 2011 Mac Mini?
I have a Mid-2010 Macbook Pro 15" with the standard 4Gb of PC-1066 and I'm looking into buying the 2011 Mac Mini base model.
Now, if I purchase 8Gb of PC-1066 for my MBP, is the Mini compatible with the PC-1066 memory? I know both the MBP and Mini use the same form factor memory, but the Mini takes PC-10600. With PCs, this sort of backwards compatibility is pretty standard but I'm still pretty new to Macs and I'm not sure how fickle they are.
Anyone know if you can use PC-1066 in place of PC-10600 in the Mac Mini?Works physically, but the 1066MHz RAM is a lower speed than the 1333MHz RAM that 2011 Mini uses.
Personally I'd leave the MacBook as is and order the correct upgrade for the Mini.

I'm very tempted by a refurb HP Smartbuy ZR2740w 27" WQHD display, but it doesn't have a HDMI port. It does have DisplayPort.
Since the mid-2011 Mac Mini I have has either HDMI or Thunderbolt to choose from, plus I've just bought an external TB storage system, I think I'd need to connect the monitor to the second TB port on the external TB storage and hope that the external storage would pass the DisplayPort signals along.
I've read that DisplayPort connections are compatible with TB ports on Macs, and that you can daisy chain TB devices.
I don't want to assume those statements hold when I'd need to connect the DisplayPort cable to the 2nd TB port on the external storage.
Anyone know if this will work?
Is it "supported"?
Thanks!
Andrew23. How do I connect my Mini DisplayPort monitor or monitor using a Mini DisplayPort adapter to my Thunderbolt-equipped Mac when I have other Thunderbolt devices connected?
When connecting a Mini DisplayPort display or a display using a Mini DisplayPort adapter to a Thunderbolt peripheral (except as described in question 24), make sure the display is connected at the end of the Thunderbolt chain. You can use only one Mini DisplayPort device in the Thunderbolt chain.
Note: Systems with more than one Thunderbolt port, like an iMac, can have more than one Mini DisplayPort monitor or monitor connected with a Mini DisplayPort adapter connected as each Thunderbolt port can support one Mini DisplayPort display.
24. Can I connect my Mini DisplayPort monitor or monitor using a Mini DisplayPort adapter to my Apple Thunderbolt Display?
Mini DisplayPort Monitors or Monitors connecting with Mini DisplayPort adapters will not function when connected through a Thunderbolt Display. They must be connected directly to the Thunderbolt port on the computer or to a non-display device as indicated above.

Is it possible to connect an external blue ray drive to a mac mini to watch HD videos? Iy yes, what additional software / hardware is necessary?
Saul in PA wrote:
There is some new software that allows playing:
http://www.macworld.com/article/160977/2011/07/blu_ray_movie_playback_comes_to_t he_mac.html
Did you even read the article you linked to?
Here's a quote from it
"The video itself looked fine when it played properly, but it stopped and started constantly, and often displayed with huge, ugly artifacts. And at times, the app would freeze completely and require a force quit.
Just to make sure it wasn’t a problem with one Blu-ray disc, I tried some others. With Hot Tub Time Machine the results were much, much worse. It got a few seconds into the United Artists logo before the movie and completely froze playback. On several attempts. With David Cronenberg’s The Fly, playback was generally better—but the software played the ‘making of’ movie instead of the actual film. I thought there might have been a preference to help with the movie selection, but—wait for it—the Preferences item didn’t do anything when I selected it."

I upgraded RAM to 16gb in my i7 mid 2011 mac mini and it shuts down at night
I have a mid 2011 mac mini i7. Below are the specs on memory, hardware, and solid state. I also have Yosemite installed - everything is current. version 10.10.2
I've had 8gb installed since I bought it. And I just purchased 2 sticks of Crucial RAM 8gbx2.
Everything is fine but when I go to bed and wake in the morning, the system will not wake-up. I have fresh batteries in the keyboard and mouse. The system mini is warm on top - not cold or hot. So it does not seem asleep. I have pressed the button on the mac mini once and thought it was alseep...nothing happens. I just can't get it back up after it seems asleep at night.
The only way I can get the system going again is pulling the power plug. This has happened each night since installing the RAM. Oh, I also have held the power button down for 5 seconds trying to do a hard reset. Nothing
I was really excited to get the system up and running with 16gb but hate trouble. I am not a tech expert....
I have not changed any settings. And if it was asleep, why isn't it waking?
Does anyone have any ideas here?

I did both resets you offer in the link above and then I went to bed last night.
In the morning, when I hit the keyboard, it paused and came to light....and said there was a problem and it automatically reset and re-booted from a blank screen (not main screen). This was the screen after the reboot. The full error info is listed below the image.

Hi. I have a Mid-2011 Mac Mini with 8GB of RAM. I have an SSD installed in it as the primary drive, along with another internal 2TB drive and an external USB 2TB drive for media. This machine is mostly used as a media server and player. It's been running Mountain Lion since I bought it (refurb) last year. I upgraded to 10.8.3 as soon as that came out, and was running for a while without any problems. This evening, though, I started to notice some problems.
The main issue is that the CPU (well, one core) seems to be constantly under load. Under Activity Monitor I'm watching the system load (but not user load) hover between about 8% and 12%, all of the time. But looking at the program list, I don't see anything taking up more than about 2% of CPU, and that is taken up by Activity Monitor itself.
The annoying way that this manifests itself in the UI is that if I'm just randomly moving the cursor around in a circle, I can watch it periodically hang and freeze for about half of a second every 3-4 seconds or so. Meanwhile, everything else on the system also seems to freeze up for about half a second at the same time, which makes watching Netflix extremely irritating. (With Netflix the sound plays as normal, but the video freezes briefly every few seconds - I verified this in both Firefox and Chrome so I doubt it's a browser thing.)
I've already tried some troubleshooting steps myself. (None of this has worked yet.)
I saw a lot of messages in console about "mdworker deny mach-lookup com.apple.ls.boxd", which googling around for led me to this page; per the instructions there I booted into safe mode, waited a bit and rebooted, and now I don't see those messages any more. (I didn't mess with the sandbox.sb file, about which, really? Apple implemented this in Scheme or something?) Just to be on the safe side, though, I disabled Spotlight indexing with sudo mdutil -a -i off.
I opened Disk Util and ran a verify on all three disks, no errors. I found one or two permissions that needed repairing on the startup SSD and repaired them. The problem persisted. I also cleared out my caches with Maintenance while I was at it.
As a side note, even when I rebooted in safe mode, I was still seeing the same behavior (periodic half-second mouse freezes, system CPU averaging a constant 10% or so in Activity Monitor).
I also spent some time reading this other thread which looked like it had some very useful advice (unlike that poster, though, my Spotlight processes aren't crashing). So I went ahead and followed Linc Davis's first set of instructions in that thread. Here's what I've got for steps 1 and 2.
1. Activity monitor
Highest-CPU process is Activity Monitor at about 1-2% CPU
CPU: User 1%, system ~10%, idle ~90%
System memory: Page outs 0, swap used 0 bytes
Disk activity: Reads in/sec 0, Writes out/sec 0 (these infrequently spike up to about 40 or 50 max)
2. System log
I put up a gist for this here. It's my last 50 messages or so, probably some are coming from the most recent reboot. I can see the "IOHIDSystem cursor update overdue. Resending" messages which I presume are linked to my cursor freezes, but nothing else looks obviously suspicious to me. The stuff about "menucracker" is down to MenuMeters; I uninstalled it and rebooted at one point just to check, but it didn't seem to make a difference so I reinstalled it.
As far as kexts go, the only one I had that wasn't Apple was SoundFlower. I actually need that one, I use it to stream files from Plex, but I went ahead and uninstalled it anyways, and it didn't make a difference. My launchd lists start up sickbeard, sabnzbd, and plex, but I've manually quit all of those and the problem persists, so I highly douby any of them are to blame.
Any advice greatly appreciated. Is there a better way that I can see what exactly is causing the high system CPU load, like can I list processes by number of kernel calls or something? I did try top and ps but I didn't see anything obviously different from Activity Monitor in their output.Nope, I don't have a "/Users/charon/Library/Mobile Documents" directory, let alone anything underneath it. Is that like an iCloud thing or something? I tend to avoid the Apple-supplied services when I can (I don't use iTunes either unless I can help it).
As an update, as of about two days later this problem seems to have solved itself. Possibly sleeping and waking did something to it (though that seems unlikely given how many times I rebooted), or else there was just some long-*** kernel process that finally worked itself out. But my system CPU is back down to normal and the cursor freezes are gone.
??? it is a mystery! ??? -
Need new disk for 2011 Mac Mini i5 with Radeon 6630M
I need a new disk for 2011 Mac Mini i5 with Radeon 6630M
Will this fit?
Western Digital 2.5 inch Scorpio Black 750GB 7200rpm SATA 16MB Internal Hard Drive WD7500BPKT
Will I need special screwdrivers or tools?Wow, I worked on my MacMini after watching the video.
But BEWARE!
That OWC video misses a crucial step! (I emailed them)
My MacMini had a bit of "invisible" black tape holding the disk connector to the disk, very hard to see. When I pulled off the connector, it came apart !
That bit of tape must be something Apple added, or some manufacturers added, but it really messed me up. I had to send my MacMini off to be repaired, at a cost about $200 including parts and labour. -

Well, it seems that you have used Hackintosh to migrate or transfer your system from. These kexts are not present in original MacOs X.
On original Mac these kexts prevents it to enter sleep mode.
Solution is to remove these kexts from System/Library/Extensions or to do clean install. -
Mid 2011 Mac MIni Freezing with OSX 10.8.2
My Mid 2011 Mac Mini running OS X 10.8.2 has been Freezing (The baloon spins often) over random things. Is there a scan I can do to check problems. This is my first experience with a Mac and thought they weren't supposed to freeze. I run a few programs at a time but I do have 8g of ram with 2.3 GHz Intel Core i5.
The next time you have the problem, note the exact times when it starts and ends: hour, minute, second.
If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left.
Scroll back in the log to the time you noted above. Post any messages timestamped during that interval – the text, please, not a screenshot.
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into a message.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Edit it out by search-and-replace in a text editor before posting. -
