2011 MBP 8.2 has horizontal blue/white lines on boot.

Like the subject line says my 2011 MBP only shows blue/white horizontal lines on boot.
Just started to happen.
The screen froze while I was swiping btwn screens so I rebooted and that's when it occurred.
Tried the SMC reset w/o any luck.
I hope nothing is fried.
Any help is appreciated.

Your profile says "2008" but the header says "2011"... which is it?
Regardless, it sounds as if you have a problem with either your Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) or with your screen - more likely than not, your GPU. You need to get to an Apple Store or an AASP and have them run diagnostics on your machine. The repair might be costly if you're no longer under AppleCare.

  • Horizontal Blue/White lines

I have read lots about Vertical lines on G5s but little about my newly discovered problem
I have a G5 fully updated 10.5.6- 1.9 GHz 1.5 GB mem. Horizontal Blue/White lines have appeared in columns about 25mm wide, all over the screen.
As I type they seem to go all fuzzy and change to a darker blue - I find this very distracting but so far I am able to use my machine with not too much difficulty, except that the fault doesn't help when I need to use my Photoshop software, inasmuch that the blue/white lines seem to dominate the background of the photos.
    Has anyone got any ideas?

    Same problem, different orientation.
This happens if your inverter cable gets damaged, or your inverter board gets shorted. Take it in for service.

You can work through the five 5 R's of troubleshooting.

It might also be a good idea to let the iPod's battery fully drain. Then charge it back up and restore it once more in iTunes.
Otherwise, it's likely a hardware issue with the iPod's LCD display, meaning you'll need to take or send your iPod in for service either via Apple or a third party repair service. Here is Apple's repair pricing.

Note that they don't actually repair the device, but exchange it for one of the same generation, model, and capacity.  A third party service will actually replace the damaged part for a little less.  Google "iPod screen repair" and you should get a number of results to work with.

I think this is an excellent indicator that not only is Palm reviewing the feedback from the support forums here, but actively reviewing feedback/comments/wishes on other sites as well.
As the original poster copied this (quite solid, IMO) wishlist from Pre Central, the palm support staff acknowledged first seeing it there.

Hello, I downloaded an ntfs systemfile from tuxera and used it to convert a usb stick so I could put more than the fat32 4gb on, my Imac froze a while after so I turned it off the on and now I have blue vertical lines on boot up and the a white screen with lots of tine blue symbols after, mouse pointer moves but thats about it.
Have used R and cmd to get a menu up but once I choose one of the four options my mouse is rendered useless and I cant get any further, have downloaded, to another usb stick recovery disk assisstant and am trying to use that in conjunction with the lion option on the previously mentioned screen, computer was responding really slowly and has now frozen on the terms of software license agreement (maybe the last hurdle!) can anyone pleeeeeease help!!!!!??????

It's likely that the boot drive is failing, or that there's some other hardware fault. Run the Apple Hardware Test.
Intel-based Macs: Using Apple Hardware Test
Even if the test is negative, you should make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store to have the machine tested more thoroughly.

My new iPhone 5 has black and white lines on the screen. It's not been damaged. I've tried turning it off but this does not solve the problem? Please help. I can't find my answer on the Internet.

By far the most common problem hardware-wise seems to be scuffs on the aluminium. Yours is the first report of a faulty screen I've seen.
If you use the same Apple ID on both devices it'll sync whatever you want it to - music/apps/photos/messages/etc.
I've just switched from a Galaxy S3 to iPhone 5 (having already owned an iPad for a while) so I'm in a similar position!

  • My Ipod touch only has a blue/white screen.

My Ipod Touch 3rd Gen 64gb was working perfectly til yesterday when the screen is now just blue/white. It still will darken when i press the lock button. I've tried reseting and restoring and this does nothing, screen remains the same. It makes all the right noises, when I connect it to my Macbook it makes the normal noise and is connected no problem. But all I can see is Blue and white pixels. Does the LCD component need replacing?

If yo still have a problem after restoring the iPod to factory defaults/new iPod then you likely have a hardware problem.  It could be the screen or it could be the electronics driving he screen.  I would make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

  • My iphone 3G has black/blue/white screen but it still works. Any solutions?, My iphone 3G has black/blue/white screen but it still works. Any solutions?

    Hi,
I just took my iphone 3g out of my bag and the screen is broken.
The screen either is blue with white lines along it, or black with white lines along it (it seems to alternate between them).
The iphone still works however, as when turing the silent button it vibrates, along with me tapping the screen when trying to put the password in, it vibrates.
Any solutions? If not does the warranry cover things like this?
Ive tryed resetting it (holding sleep button and home button at the same time) and it just urns off, and when it turns on again, the same problem arrives.
    Thanks,
    Matt.
    p.s
On a unrelated(?) note my iphone thought the head phones were plugged in even though they wernt not long before this happened.

  • Blue & White will not Boot into OS 9

My son has a 400Mhz Rev. 2 Blue & White. Recently the Power Supply died, which I replaced, but when it died it also took one of the hard drives with it, before that it was working flawlessly. He had two ATA drives, both Maxtor, one the original 6 gig, with OS 9.2.2, and a 40 gig with OS X 10.4.11 on it. It was the 40 gig that died. Like I said I replaced the the dead power supply, pulled the faulty hard drive and replaced it with another one with 10.4.11 on it. The computer would start up, sometimes it would chime, sometimes not, but it would always go to a white screen, with the mouse courser in the top left hand corner and just sit there. I tried zapping the PRAM, resetting the logic board, pressing the CUDA Switch, starting up from original 8.6 CD, a retail OS 9.1 CD, a retail Tiger CD, and even a SCSI hard drive with OS 9.2.2 it. The only thing that worked was the Tiger CD, which would allow me to boot to the OS X drive. But for some reason I cannot boot to any device with OS 9.2.2 or lower. I can boot into classic from OS X, but I cannot boot directly to any drive with OS 9.
So my question is, how can this machine recognize and boot to OS X, but not to OS 9? I can take all the disks and boot to their respective OS's on my Daughter's Blue & White with no problems, but my son's will only boot to OS X, and it just hangs if I try to boot to OS 9.
Any help will be much appreciated.
By the way, I googled this problem, and it seems awhile back someone had the same problem with a G4 Cube, but was unable to get any help. So while it may be rare, it has happened before.
    Ken

    Ken,
A couple more things you should try: First I would try removing the PRAM battery from the computer with it powered off and unplugged for at least 10 minutes. This will completely kill the clock and the PRAM, but the PRAM settings may still hold. Then put the battery in and power it back on. I just replaced RAM in a G4Cube and that was the only way to get the system to accept the new RAM. Of course this resets your system clock to January 1st 1907, which will cause all sorts of complaints until you reset the clock, but it could fix the disparate drive problem.
Another thing to know is that certain PATA drives do not play well together Western Digital and Maxtor for instance. WD Masters expect WD slaves on their chain, so if you are mixing brands, you should try placing both drives in Cable Select Mode. Place the blue end of the ribbon cable on the motherboard, the master drive on the black cable end and the slave on the gray connector in the middle and give that a whirl.
Then you should hold down CommandOption+OF for Open Firmware when you press the power button, that will bring up your Open Firmware interface and enable you to view the startup settings. From there you can specify which hard drive you want it to boot from. If you know the drive and slice you can specify it in the boot-device entry. To view all the entries type "printenv" and press enter it should show a full page of options and then give you the option to press space for the last 7 or so entries. See what boot-device has next to it. It should read something like hd:0:2,\\:tbxi If you don't know what your boot slice is you can wipe out the entry one of two ways: You can edit the entry directly, in which case you would type "setenv boot-device hd:\\:tbxi" Return Then do a "printenv" again. That should show the blank entry--what you're doing is removing the specific boot drive assignment. You might also wish to change the boot mode so that you can see the device messages instead of the gray screen as the system boots. You can do that temporarily by pressing Command+V on boot. To store your new settings and start the Mac type "mac-boot" and Return. To choose which drive you want to boot from hold Option down as it powers up and you should be shown a list of the volumes with a bootable MacOS on them, as the OS Finds the bootable folders. Then you should be able to get Mac OS 9 or X to boot.
Let us know how you make out...

  • Mac G3  Blue & White won,t boot anymore

    Hi everyone
I havea a big problem and I hope someone can help me out.
    I have a G3 Blue & White with
    PCU:300 Mgz
    Rams:896 MB
    HDD:130 GB
I had Tiger installed on it and worked perfectly, but classic would not boot up because it would say that Mac OS 9.1 was not installed.
So I decided to copy the system folder from my OS 9.1 intall disk to my hard drive(big mistake).
Then I went on Preferences, Startup disk, and it showed the icons of Mac OS X Tiger and Classic 9.1.So I decided to put Classic as startup disk(bigger mistake)because now,my Mac won't boot.It keeps saying
"The system software on the startup disk only functions on the original media, not if copied on another disk.
Now even if I try to boot with my install disk,OS 9.1 or Panther or Tiger,it just won,t boot from the disk. There is that little window with ? in it.
Now I have a Mac that won't boot.
    Please,can anyone help me out
    Thank you
    Mario

    Mario:
I don't mind reformating my HDD and do a clean installation but I cannot boot no matter what i do.
This may be a problem, as you will need to be able to boot from both the OS 9 install disk and the Tiger install disk. If you are not able to boot it may be that you are having an issue with the optical drive. In any case, I will post some directions and we will see if you can manage to get it going. First we will do a complete low level format with the OS 9 installer, install and update OS 9 and then when that is working satisfactorily we will install and update Tiger. All of this, of course, is dependent on whether you can boot from the optical drive.
    Format and Install OS 9
This process will completely erase everything on your Hard Disk Drive. Be sure to Backup your User Folder and all third party apps you can't afford to lose
    • Boot from your OS 9 install CD holding down C key.
    • Go to Drive Setup and reformat your drive as Mac OS Extended (HFS+)
    • Reinstall OS 9
    • Update to 9.2.2: Mac OS 9: Available Updates
    • Update your firmware
Once this is completed, you are ready to install Tiger.
    Installation Process
    • With computer shut down insert install disk in optical drive.
    • Hit Power button and immediately after chime hold down the "C" key.
    • Select language
    • Open Installer and begin installation.
    • Select installation option as Archive and Install. *This is important as you do not want to overwrite OS 9, which you just installed.*
    • Choose to Customize and deselect Foreign Language Translations and Additional Printer drivers.
Optional: Check box to install X11 (Tiger and later) BSD Subsystems (Panther & earlier).
    • Proceed with installation.
    • After installation computer will restart for setup.
    • After setup, reboot computer.
    • Go to Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility.
    • Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in left side bar.
    • Select First Aid in main panel.
    • Click Repair Disk Permissions.
    • Connect to Internet.
    • Download and install Mac OS X 10.4.11 Combo update (PPC) (Tiger).
    • Repair Disk Permissions as previously.
    • Go to Apple Menu > Software Update.
    • Install all updates.
    Computer may restart after updates.
    • Go to Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility.
    • Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in left side bar.
    • Select First Aid in main panel.
    • Click Repair Disk Permissions.

  • My 2011 mbp says it has a hard drive failure. Can I replace drive myself

My 2011 MacBook Pro says panic kernel not readable. I'm guessing hard drive failure but a post said it could be the cable. Can I troubleshoot this myself.

yes - you can purchase a external usb enclosure - around $10 at Radio Shack and $8 at Staples.
you can install your hard drive there and if it boots as a external drive - then your cable needs to be replaced.

  • HT204350 How do I know if the migration assistant is actually working? I got as far as a screen that says it is "Transferring your information" and there is what looks like a progress bar but that has moving blue diagonal lines rather than any progress

The fan on my target computer is whirring away and so it sounds like something is happening. But there doesnt seem to be any way of telling from either the traget or the source computer if the thing is actually working.  How many hours should I wait before concluding that something has gone wrong?  I have over 100GB of data so I am not expecting it to be fast!
Is it normal for the source computer to just drop out of migration asssistant at the begining, or should there be some sort of indication that it is working?  What about if I use activity monitor is there any clues I should be looking for there?

    Hello gatormommy97,
If that migration happens to still be chugging along, you're in luck. We've got step-by-step instructions for performing an Erase & Install on the new MacBook Pro. This will restore it to 'factory defaults,' just like it came out of the box for the first time, allowing you to start fresh with an alternative migration method.
