2011 MBP not dimming on battery power
My new Early 2011 MBP is set to slightly dim the display on battery power and it is not dimming on battery power unless i go in to the energy saver preference and uncheck and recheck it then it dims slightly.
Yes, the case is a heat-sink; Apple call them "notebooks" not "laptops" and warn against having them against your skin.
"Do not leave the bottom of your MacBook Pro in contact with your lap or any surface of your body for extended periods. Prolonged contact with your body could cause discomfort and potentially a burn"

Actually, you don't want heat near the battery itself as that's not good for li-ion, that should feel relatively cool?

2011 MBP not sleeping properly when power runs out
My macbook is behaving strangely. Every time the battery runs out, it doesn't sleep properly and restarts by itself when the power supply is attached.
The clock and date reset to 2001 but it is not a problem with the clock battery, this has been working fine up until the last few days.
The reason i say it is not the clock battery is because the actual power behaviour is behaving strangely. For example, the last time the battery ran out, the power indicator said there was still 3%/ten minutes left. The computer is cutting power before the sleep mode kicks in. Also, sometimes after the power cuts, when restarting the battery monitor shows 10 or 11 hours to recharge. The normal recharge time would be around 2.5 - 3 hours.
Also, just after a power cut with no sleep, when i am reconfiguring the lost settings, the processor maxes and stays that way, even when the computer is doing nothing.
I have tried resetting the PRAM and also an SMC reset but they are making no difference.
Anyone have any ideas? I already suspect this computer has malware on it but i think this particular problem is something else again...I have to admit, I was not holding my breath. I have experienced this condition with on my own MBP twice this year. Once while running Leopard and once while running Snow Leopard. Both times it was only resolved after reinstalling the OS again.
I can't remember, though, if simply reinstalling the OS over the existing installation was sufficient or if I had to wipe the drive, reinstall the OS, and migrate my data back over. I assume you have a backup going.
The easiest thing to try first is insert the SL DVD and perform an installation. The default now is a variation of Archive & Install, where the OS is replaced without touching your user data. You don't need to make any special selections, just let the installer go.
In the event that does not work, and AFTER you have verified you have a current backup of everything, then insert the DVD and click the Options button, then click Restart in the window. This will reboot the Mac off of the DVD. At the Welcome splash screen go up to the Utilities menu and select Disk Utility. Then reformat your Macs' internal HD. Then proceed with the installation. Near the end you will be asked if you want to migrate user data over. Select the method of migration you wish (Time Machine, clone, etc...) and move your user data back.
Unfortunately, it is the only way I have resolved this issue if the earlier suggestions did not work. let us know what you decide to do. Cheers! -
MBP running out of battery power before sleeping - Help!
Hi
My MacBook Pro has been running out of battery power before the memory-saving sleep mode kicks in, so it dies with a little click of the HD. It's not a hibernation state as when I reattach the power supply it boots up a new session.
I've noticed this since upgrading to Snow Leopard last year, but put it down to an old battery that had 45% charge and wasn't powering the MBP properly. I now have a replacement A1175 5600mAh battery which is giving me 2-3hrs usage (which I'm pleased at), but now it still dies before sleeping!
I have tried to cycle the new battery, but can't. I have reset the SMC several times, with no effect.
I used to cycle the battery every week or two, running it down until it would no longer wake from sleep, recharge overnight etc, but now I can't do this because it will die before sleeping!
I've read quite a few articles over the net about this issue, but there seems like no cure. It's really annoying me now as I frequently work on the move and a dying MBP could potentially be disastrous.
Can anyone shed some light on this issue? Is there something I haven't tried yet? I think it's a late '06 MBP.

My old battery started doing the same thing--shutting down without warning. I replaced it, and the replacement battery started doing the exact same thing. I then returned the replacement, and the next replacement battery behaves in a normal fashion.
My first battery was worn out. My second battery was defective. My third battery is good.
Your battery should still be under warranty. Go back to where you got it and show them what it is doing and see if you can get a replacement.

Mac Book Pro will not start on Battery Power
Mac Book Pro will not start on Battery Power although battery at 98% need to connect charger. When started date and time incorrect, comes up as 1st Jan 2012.
What is the exact model of your MBP? The date change often is an indication of power loss to the MBP, such as disconnecting the battery.
If the SMC reset does not solve the situation, post this from your MBP:
Make certain that the power adapter is connected.

HP ProBook 5220m Fan not working with battery power but work fine with adapter plugged in
Hi,
Any one have this issue?
HP ProBook 5220m (Bios Version F50) Fan not working with battery power but work fine with adapter plugged in.
This issue was found in my replacement motherboard. the original mother do not have this issue.
The origianl mother to be replace is due to can't power on after a power failure recovery. I believe was due to power surge killed the motherboard's power controller circuitry.
Appreciate any one can provide clue for resolving the problem.
I have tried to install speedfan to try my luck, but it can't any fan in the application to configure. (Bios Version F50)@wheng

MBP temperature when on battery power
Is it normal that my MBP runs so hot when on battery power that I cannot even use it on my lap? It seems like most of the heat is coming from the area below the top 3 rows of keys (if that makes sense) and not the battery itself.
Yes, the case is a heat-sink; Apple call them "notebooks" not "laptops" and warn against having them against your skin.

After Installing More Ram, MBP Crashes When Using Battery Power
I own a 2.16 Ghz MBP. Last night, I installed 4 Gigs of ram (2x2 Gigs)purchased from crucial.com into my MBP. (Yes, I realize that the MBP only utilizes about 3.3 Gigs of the ram, but I wanted the benefits of running with a matched pair).
After installing the ram, my MBP recognizes the new ram and everything seemed fine. And, it was fine until I unplugged the MBP's power and went mobile. Then, after a few minutes of use, the MBP completely shut down and turned off. I tried turning it back on, but it would not. So, I plugged the MBP and it booted up fine. I unplugged it again, and again, after a few minutes of use, the MBP shut down completely. Being that the battery was fully charged, I don't know why it would behave this way.
Any way, anybody have any ideas as to what might be wrong?

It sounds as if you have a defective battery. I would call Apple and explain your MBP's symptoms. If the battery is swollen it is likely a candidate. -
HDX 18T-1200CTO can not run on battery power alone, but runs on AC fine
I recently acquired a HP HDX X18T-1200 CTO, with 2.53GHz P8700 processor and 8GB memory. Everything appears to run fine as long as it is on AC power. As soon as I remove the power cable it will go into the power on reset, and will continue loop on power reset cycle.
I tried to remove the two hard drives but that won't change the situation.
I tried to boot up the PC using CDROM and it behaved the same way. Runs fine with AC, but immediately go to reset once the AC adapter power cord is removed.
BIOS Memory diagnostic and hard drive diagnostic test ran fine.
BIOS is upgraded from F.31 to F.34 (no change in behavior).
Thanks for helping!Hi there @ehuang99
Welcome to the HP Support Forums! It is a great place to find the help you need, both from other users, HP experts and other support personnel.
I understand that you are having trouble with power when running on your battery. I am happy to assist you with this. Since the unit runs well with the AC power connected, you have to check and be sure the battery is charging correctly, or if there is perhaps a bad or intermittent contact for the battery. Check through these pages and see if anything is applicable. Also make note of any error messages, LED flash patterns, that sort of thing. Let me know what you see.

Also you can try these, but I expect the problem is more the power stage for the battery.

2011 MBP not displaying 1920x 1080px on VGA
Hi,
I just got my 15" MacBook Pro with the hi-res antiglare display.
I was under the impression that this MBP could output to 1920 x 1080 on the VGA
My OLD 13" MB and 17" MBP can output to 1920 on the VGA no problem.
Am i missing something here ???In my experience with HD projectors and monitors, the Mac Book Pros really want to come out DVI like the older models, not VGA. When you get a mini to DVI cable it comes with the fullest resolution the computer is capable of. If you're using a VGA its like trying to convert the image to your monitor and it doesn't come out as good. This is the cable you want-

Late 2011 MBP OS X Lion Battery Problems
I don't know when does the warning about 'You are now using reserved battery'.
When does it show up? Is it 10%? 20%?
I always get it at a different percentage.
I also want to know if the reserved battery is rechargeble.
Can I charge my reserved battery or it cannot be charged.
If not, how can I find out the amount of reserved battery left?
Please help, I am new to use Mac.You'll likely be fine. The vast majority of installations are perfectly fine, and those who're coming here are just thoe who're having problems (this is a support forum, after all). I'd recommend the upgrade, but do be sure to fully back up your system beforehand (this is wise for any change you make to the system).

If available, try another power adapter.
If no success, bring the MBP and the power adapter to an Apple store genius bar for a free evaluation.

sorry for the long post.
Got my mbp back from apple with new logic board and battery after repeated kernel panics. 2nd day in after running new battery down to about 20%, plugged into AC and poof, mbp shuts down. Will not boot up while plugged in. Installed secong battery and boots up fine. BUT, after this battery goes down past 30% and upon plugging into AC mbp shuts down again.
Pulling battery and running on AC alone works fine, but cannot work while charging. Must keep it off and charge until green light on magsafe.

I have just installed a new Battery after the old one showed (Not Charging) and when you clicked on this icon the dropdown"condition replace now". Problem now is the computer still shows the same message in the top bar (Not Charging) and the dropdown also shows "condition relace now". the magsafe show the greem LED i.e not charging, but providing power. If you disconnect the magsafe the computer powers off instantly confirming we have power. I have carried out resetting the SMC controller and still no change. Tested the standby voltage on the magsafe pins etc, all in spec. What should I do now, as I don't want to keep spending more and more. Bellow is the info from the system profiler.
