2011 MBP not displaying 1920x 1080px on VGA

Hi,
I just got my 15" MacBook Pro with the hi-res antiglare display.
I was under the impression that this MBP could output to 1920 x 1080 on the VGA
My OLD 13" MB and 17" MBP can output to 1920 on the VGA no problem.
Am i missing something here ???

In my experience with HD projectors and monitors, the Mac Book Pros really want to come out DVI like the older models, not VGA. When you get a mini to DVI cable it comes with the fullest resolution the computer is capable of. If you're using a VGA its like trying to convert the image to your monitor and it doesn't come out as good. This is the cable you want-

Hope this helps!

    New MBP.
hooked it up to a VGA projector tonight ( Apple store folk told me to use the same minidisplayport adapter I used with my older MBP which did  fit the Thunderbolt port.
Monitor and Mac saw each other but my MBP did not project correct resolution or dimensions
MBP still seemed to think it was connected to my 27" monitor at home.
Is this an adapter issue? a MBP issue? a Mountain Lion issue
    Something was amiss
    Any ideas?

Doesn't work that way with the Retina display
    a)  I never had to select a resolution previously when connecting a VGA projector. My previous Mac auto adjusted its resolution
    b) The preference does not allow choices of resolution as in the past
Look at how differnt this preference is
If I chose Scaled I get a few choices of larger or smaler text.
There may be some options in the main menu bar which Ineed to look at when connecting a monitor ( based on some other posts elsewhere in this Apple discussion area.Dunno... I am sure I am overlookign something  but the old auto adjust is gone, I think

  • MBP not displaying on HP ZR24w monitor

    Hi
My 2011 MBP recongises my HP ZR24w monitor (see pic below). But it doesn't display on the monitor. I have connected it via a Neet Mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter. I've rebooted, switched sources on the monitor, toogled between mirrored display in system setting etc. No joy...
Update: Forgot to add... The monitor is usually my main monitor on my Mac Pro and was working this afternoon, so I'm sure the monitor is working.
    Any help greatly received
    Thanks

The driver download pages for many HP products are currently down, but you can download the full featured Windows 7 x86 drivers for the Officejet Pro 8600 n911 from HP here: http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software12/COL40120/bi-108858-3/OJ8600_1315.exe This may not be the latest version and for the firmware update you will need to wait for the HP site to get back up or you can do a firmware update from the front panel of the printer assuming the printer is connected by wired or wireless LAN (not USB).

  • 2011 MBP not dimming on battery power

My new Early 2011 MBP is set to slightly dim the display on battery power and it is not dimming on battery power unless i go in to the energy saver preference and uncheck and recheck it then it dims slightly.

Yes, the case is a heat-sink; Apple call them "notebooks" not "laptops" and warn against having them against your skin.
"Do not leave the bottom of your MacBook Pro in contact with your lap or any surface of your body for extended periods. Prolonged contact with your body could cause discomfort and potentially a burn"
    MacBookPro_UsersGuide page 107
Actually, you don't want heat near the battery itself as that's not good for li-ion, that should feel relatively cool?

  • 2 Week old 17 MBP not displaying video

    Hello,
I am a tech support guy, and web developer, at a higher ed University. Anyway, I just recently got a new MacBook Pro about 1.5 weeks ago. It was a 17 inch MacBook Pro, 2.33GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 2 GB RAM, 200 GB drive.
Yesterday, for no reason it would not display any video. I could use ctrl+command power and hear the HD making noise but the video would not display. Every 10 minutes or so I would see a flicker and see my desktop picture for a half second. I did research on the apple support area and I ended up reinstalling the OS thinking it was a software issue... something about high CPU usage being the problem. I doubted that was the problem, but I took the hour to reinstall from the 2 DVDs. It worked during the boot from the CD, so I thought that maybe it was the software thing. After doing updates I tested it and it worked, I put it to sleep and put it away. I pulled it out tonight and it worked for an hour then I downloaded one of my old excel files from online and as I clicked on the excel file my screen, as best I can describe started to look like it was dithering... then it faded to black. It did the flickering for a few minutes, then just black... yet again, no video. I could restart and restart and try everything and all I would see is a flicker and a flash of video every few minutes.
At this point, what do I do? It was not even two weeks old and I do have AppleCare. I installed Parallels and VirtuaDesktops, Office and Adobe CS3 and pretty much everything else was normal software. None of that was running or open when all of this happened, besides maybe Office starting to launch.
I hate to send it back if it is just a software issue but I can't keep reinstalling the OS.

I will try. However, I am now seeing no video... not even after I reboot it and hear a chime and the hard drive spin... nothing. The screen is black but doesn't appear to be all of the way black. It is black but not the same as when the computer is off, there is a hint of a little light at the bottom of the display.
I wouldn't think that VirtuaDesktops would effect the computer that early in the restart, but I will try.
I deal with hundreds of Macs here at work and this is the first time I have seen something that has caused so much problems out of the gate.

  • MBP not displaying to external monitor at startup, but does after login

After I installed Yosemite my MBP will not automatically display to my external monitor (HDMI) when I start it up. I have to first login to my MBP and then my external monitor is immediately recognized and my mirroring desktops works as intended...as it did before I upgraded to Yosemite. I have no idea why the signal to my external monitor doesn't/will not work upon system start up. Anyone out there know??

Did you find  a solution? I have the exact same problem. I just install Yosemite and did not have the problem before.

  • Crystal Report 2011 does not display when keyfigures are zero

I am using Crystal report 2011 with BEX Queries as Data Source. I am not able to see some of the characteristics values when keyfigures are zero or null. In BEX query there is a costCenter Characterstic, few costcenter characteristics values are zero for some months but BEX Query is designed to show as spaces even if the keyfigures are zero for those costcenters. When I am using the same Bex Query with Crystal report 2011 all the costcenters with keyfigures as zero are not showing up on the report. Can anybody suggest how I can show the characterstics values even if all the keyfigures are zero. (I have not selected any kind of suppression in section expert in crystal report), (In Bex Query CostCenter- Properties-Advanced----Access Type for Result values are set to Master Data)

    Hi,
Have you made sure the correct Transport files have been loaded on the SAP system? Since you're using CR 2011, you need to make sure the Transports that come with this version of CR are present on the SAP system.
Could you see if the workaround mentioned in SAP Note: 1391673 works for you?
Here's a snippet of the SAP Note:
SAP Development team of BW BEX MDX Interface suggest the following implementation:
Since Crystal Reports is not correctly interpreting the character used to represent NULL values (by default the value: X) please use the Customizing transaction: RSCUSTV4 to change the sent value.
Please note, this is a Global setting, and will also modify the behaviour in BEx application.
WORKAROUND: Create a formula field based on the selection that always returns a number - converting null to 0.
Create a formula in BEx for the KF.
    Edit the Selection
Edit the formula to behave like:
    COUNT ('KF') * 'KF' + 0
    ('RKF' + 0) * 1
Not generally acceptable since it requires duplicating fields.
Also, business may not accept 0,00 for a NULL result.
    Hope this helps!

  • 2011 MBP not sleeping properly when power runs out

My macbook is behaving strangely. Every time the battery runs out, it doesn't sleep properly and restarts by itself when the power supply is attached.
The clock and date reset to 2001 but it is not a problem with the clock battery, this has been working fine up until the last few days.
The reason i say it is not the clock battery is because the actual power behaviour is behaving strangely. For example, the last time the battery ran out, the power indicator said there was still 3%/ten minutes left. The computer is cutting power before the sleep mode kicks in. Also, sometimes after the power cuts, when restarting the battery monitor shows 10 or 11 hours to recharge. The normal recharge time would be around 2.5 - 3 hours.
Also, just after a power cut with no sleep, when i am reconfiguring the lost settings, the processor maxes and stays that way, even when the computer is doing nothing.
I have tried resetting the PRAM and also an SMC reset but they are making no difference.
Anyone have any ideas? I already suspect this computer has malware on it but i think this particular problem is something else again...

I have to admit, I was not holding my breath. I have experienced this condition with on my own MBP twice this year. Once while running Leopard and once while running Snow Leopard. Both times it was only resolved after reinstalling the OS again.
I can't remember, though, if simply reinstalling the OS over the existing installation was sufficient or if I had to wipe the drive, reinstall the OS, and migrate my data back over. I assume you have a backup going.
The easiest thing to try first is insert the SL DVD and perform an installation. The default now is a variation of Archive & Install, where the OS is replaced without touching your user data. You don't need to make any special selections, just let the installer go.
In the event that does not work, and AFTER you have verified you have a current backup of everything, then insert the DVD and click the Options button, then click Restart in the window. This will reboot the Mac off of the DVD. At the Welcome splash screen go up to the Utilities menu and select Disk Utility. Then reformat your Macs' internal HD. Then proceed with the installation. Near the end you will be asked if you want to migrate user data over. Select the method of migration you wish (Time Machine, clone, etc...) and move your user data back.
Unfortunately, it is the only way I have resolved this issue if the earlier suggestions did not work. let us know what you decide to do. Cheers!

  • IMAC 21.5-inch, Mid 2011 not display internet news pictures

Help, please. My iMAC 21.5-inch, Mid 2011 does not display internet news pictures. How can I 'fix' this?

I had no problems watching the streams & videos using FF v23.0.1.
Make sure you are using the latest version of Adobe Flash Player
    Check Flash Version
Adobe strongly recommends that you first uninstall any previous version of Flash Player, using the uninstaller:
    http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/uninstall-flash-player-mac-os.html#main_1 0_4
Follow the instructions closely, such as quitting ALL applications first before installing.  Repair permissions and restart your computer after the installation is completed.

Since I cannot read German, I was wondering if there was some sort of "Help" listing at the bottom of the website you linked?  If so, there should be a section or a FAQ section that should tell you what you need and/or the system requirements to watch their streams & videos.

  • MBP 2011 Does Not Enter Display Sleep Over DVI with Dell U2410

    Hi, 15" 2011 MacbookPro (8,2) running 10.7.2 Lion
Using the Apple Mini DisplayPort-to-DVI adapter, the Dell U2410 does not enter Display sleep in Energy Saver mode. Instead, the backlight remains on.
If I manually put the MBP to Sleep, the U2410 successfully enters Display sleep.
When using a MonoPrice Mini DisplayPort-to-DisplayPort cable, the monitor successfully enters Display Sleep. However, the picture signal (no matter what) is dispalyed in YPbPr rather than RGB for some reason. So this thread is in fact 2 problems.
    Any ideas / help?

My late 2007 white MacBook (3,1) running 10.6.8 connected via MiniDVI-to-DVI successfully puts the U2410 to sleep.
So I'm thinking this may be an issue with the MDP/Thunderbolt port on the new 2011 MBP's?

  • Can I place a 13" retina display panel into my 2011 MBP?

I was wondering (moreso wishing and hoping) if it's possible to have my 2011 MBP display panel replaced with the recent 13" retina display panel. My 2011 MBP is just out of warranty and its display panel has developed a green line issue that seems too common among MBP displays.
    Thanks!

The best option would be to take this to Apple and pay for it to be fixed. The display will be expensive to fix, so if you feel you can, purchasing a replacement from eBay or somewhere online would be possible. You can not fit a Retina display on as the hings and connectors are different, and even if they were not, the firmware and drivers your Mac will have (and continue to have as the model number tells the system you should have a standard display) can not drive the higher resolution efficiently. This would lead to performance and battery issues.
Consider buying a desktop stand and display for your Mac as well and use the built in display only when necessary. Small problems with LCDs usually develop into worse situations quickly.
    Good luck!

  • 2011 MBP + Thunderbolt + DVI 30" Display

    Hi,
Trying to attach one or two monitors to my 2011 MBP but have run up against a wall.
    1) My one Thunderbolt port is attached to a Sonnet Thunderbolt-to-CardBus adapter. The adapter only has one Thunderbolt port, so no possiblilty of daisy-chaining.
    2) I want to hook up a 30" NEC 2560 x 1600 DVI display (and if possible a 23" ACD as well)
    3) There do not seem to be any Thunderbolt Hubs or Splitters available yet. Am I missing something?
    4) The only solution I can see is to use a USB-to-DVI box. Took a look at the StarTech model which supports the high resolution. Is this my only option? What are others doing in this situation?
Can't wait till Thunderbolt is more widely adopted and the cable/hubs/enclosures/etc finally become more widely available.
(FYI- The Sonnet Thunderbolt-to-Cardbus adapter is great. I've got a 10-bay eSATA raid hooked up via this and it is WAY faster than FW800)
    Thank you...

Yes by running a USB cable from the Mac to the HUB input port on the display.
The product disscription states the cable has connectors on it to connect to USB.

  • Please help! MBP 15" 2011 will not boot at all

    Hi,
My 15 inch early (May) mbp 2011 will not start up. Here is what I have observed so far:
    1) When power button is pushed (without MagSafe attached) hard drive will spin up and about after 3-5 seconds it will turn off (hard drive spins Down, no further boot process) No chime, no led indicator light in front.
    2) When power button is pushed (with MagSafe attached) hard drive spins up, keeps spinning, but no further boot process. Just black screen and spinning hard drive.
    3) When attempting SMC reset, fans turn to high, and screen remains black, still no boot)
    4) Since mbp fails before booting, PRAM/NRAM resetting is not a possibility. (Tried)
    5) I have also removed the battery cable from the logic board, and tried resetting without any luck.
    6) I entered CD into optical drive - it "ate" it, but will not eject now. (Tried holding eject/left mouse/control e etc) still nothing.
    7) After letting mbp rest for 1 day, it booted fine like nothing happend, worked fine for 1 day, then next morning back to square one. Now 5 days later still nothing.
If anybody has any ideas what could be wrong, or have possible solutions, please don't hesitate.
    Thanks in advance, Oliver

    Hey there Oliverkehn,
It sounds like your computer is not booting up at all at this point, even after some very thorough troubleshooting you've already done. From the following article, I would use these steps that I don't mention as having been tried just yet:
Troubleshooting: My computer won't turn on
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1367
Note: See Apple Portables: Troubleshooting MagSafe adapters for further troubleshooting with MagSafe adapters.
Disconnect all accessories that are plugged in to the computer, such as a printer, hub, or other mobile device.
If your Mac supports user-installable memory, solid state drive, or hard drive, and you recently installed any of these, make sure they are installed correctly and are compatible with your computer. If possible, reinstall the original memory or drive into the computer to find out if the behavior persists afterwards.

If you are still unable to start up your computer after trying each of these steps, visit an Apple Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider (AASP) for further diagnosis. If you plan to visit an Apple Retail Store, make a reservation at the Genius Bar using http://www.apple.com/retail/geniusbar/ (available in some countries only).Note: Diagnostic fees may apply for issues not covered under warranty or the AppleCare Protection Plan (APP).

  • AD stored user Photos do not display in Lync for Mac 2011

I'm using Lync for Mac 2011 14.0.9 and the my user photo as well as the photos of other users who are using photos stored in our AD do not display.  This behaviour has been occurring at least since 14.0.5.  The behaviour occurs regardless of whether
I sign in using Kerberos or name / Password.  This behaviour is common for all our Mac lync users. The only photos that display are ones from windows lync users that have chosen to use a photo that is stored on the internet somewhere.
The Lync for Mac 2011 client is running against Lync Server 2010 and Exchange 2010 servers.
I also have the common problem that I cannot search the global address book for lync users.  Maybe this is related but none of the reports I've seen about the address book search have mentioned anything about photos not displaying.
Anyone Experience similar issues or know where I could start to find the problem with the contacts display?  It used to work correctly way back in 14.0.2 and subsequently an update around 14.0.5 killed the features for me.
Oh and the Mac is running OSX 10.9 but the issues also occurred in OSX 10.8
    Thanks!

    Hi,
Did you choose “Show a picture from a web address” on Windows Lync 2010 client? If yes, on Windows Lync 2010 client, choose “Default corporate picture” instead of “Show a picture from a web address”. Then open Lync 2011 on Mac computer to test the issue.
The choose will sync to all Lync clients for the same Lync account.
