2012 15 Inch Baseline Macbook Pro Heat Concerns

I just bought my first mac computer ever less than a week ago.  The baseline 15' Macbook Pro.  I love it and don't want to hurt it.  Thus when I'm playing games like Diablo III, SC2, or Minecraft I get concerned with the level of heat radiating off of my precious new toy.  Is this something that should be concerning to me?  I don't really see any vents on the body of the computer itself.  Is there something that I should know as far as how to treat my macbook to make sure I don't burn it out?  Is it the way I'm holding it?  Should I get one of those fans that go underneath the laptop?  Should I just ignore it?  It seems to get much hotter than it should.  Any advice is appreciated.

You'd think that if you have years of experience with macs you'd have a basic understanding of how they dissipate heat.  Apparently not.
I know enough not to play games in my macbook because of heat issues.

Did they not showcase Diablo III on the retina display macbook pro?  Again I say to you, the games will play on my macbook right?  So then who cares if it's "meant to play games on".  That wasn't my question.  Stop wasting other's time with your inanities.
Do you own a Retina which has a better designed airflow system because of the side vents.
No you don't.  You have a baseline Macbook which airflow system is towards the backend.
It think it's rude to go around slingning answers at people without understanding the questions.
Slinging answers?  Can you point out what I didn't understand in your questons?
How many people responded to your questions again?  2.  You know why?  Rude....That's why.
Look at every response you got from me.  Not one rude, name calling word was forwarded towards you.  Now look at your responses.
What a WOT

  • MacBook Pro heating up and fans at full speed

MacBook Pro heating up and gets extremely hot and fans constantly at full speed after upgrading to Yosemite 10.10 without even launching any applicaiton previously I was on Mavericks, I checked Activity monitor and a process called kexts is always running and have a large percentage of the CPU load I tried reinstalling Yosemite and the same problem happens.

Thank you That solved my issue I uninstalled Cisco anytime connect. My console had that kernel running in the background giving the error every second.

  • Macbook Pro 13 Inch or Macbook Pro Retina 13 inch?

So I'm going to be purchasing a new laptop in the spring, and I'm debating whether to buy the regular macbook pro (13 inch) or the retina.  I currently have the mid 2009 macbook pro.  I'll be going to college next year and lugging it around, so size is definitely a factor, although the regular macbook isn't too heavy in my opinion.  I don't do anything particually crazy on my laptop (use it mainly for browsing, email, word processing etc). The only thing with the retina is I'm not sure if I'm ready to give up my optical drive...I know it's a thing of the past, but still. It would be nice if it played the sims 3, but I doubt either one would do that very well.
If anyone has either laptop if you could tell me what you think about it that would be great, thanks!
(note: I'd be willing to go for the upgraded 13 inch macbook pro, but only the baseline macbook pro w/ retina)

The Retina MBPs are in their first generation, so long-term reliability is uncertain. I, too, have 2009 MBP (though I swapped out the drive for an SSD). It's the best of both worlds - flexility and speed.
If you're worried about heft, the MBP-R and MBP-A are your two Apple choices, and if you still want occasional access to an optical drive, you can always plug in an external. The problems may not be apparent, right off: the MBP-R and -A are hard to service, and you can't change out the RAM or SSD, or upgrade your hardware. But I strongly suggest stopping by the Apple Store sometime down the line, so you can see what the displays look like.
Given your computing needs, updating your current MBP with an SSD may bring your machine up to date.

  • Just bought a mid 2012 13 in macbook pro. Battery life is only 3 hours. Thoughts?

Just bought a mid 2012 13 in macbook pro. Battery life is only 3 hours. I was under the impression that it would last 7 hours. This is with normal internet browsing and text editing. my brightness is not all the up and bluetooth is off. Thoughts?

im having the same problems, bought my 13" MacBook Pro last week and the battery is terrible on it, but i googled it and a lot of other people are having the same issues

  • Mid 2012 13.3" macbook pro whats the max HZ(fps)

i play allot of games on my mid 2012 13.3" macbook pro i play them all a 60Hz(60 fps) what is the max i can set it too with out damaging the display my friend have some monitors that use 125Hz they say that would damahe my screen i what to know what is recommended

All 13" MBPs only have the built in Intel graphics so you are very limited as to what FPS you can run games at.
As far as the Hz screens run at that has no baring on game play. All flat screen monitors use the 60Hz setting but it really doesn't matter on LCD/LED screens. That is really a Refresh rate for CRT monitors that had to Redraw the screen from top to bottom, bottom to top but with LCD/LED the whole screen is refreshed at once, IE no scanning like on older TUBE CRT monitors.

  • I recently (Jan 2012) acquired a MacBook Pro (MBP) running 10.7.4 and an AirPort Express.  I also have an old PPC G4 tower (Digital Audio model) running 10.4.11.  The OS software on both machines is totally up to date.  AirPort Utility on the G4 is 5.4.2

I recently (Jan 2012) acquired a MacBook Pro (MBP) running 10.7.4 and an AirPort Express.  I also have an old PPC G4 tower (Digital Audio model) running 10.4.11.  The OS software on both machines is totally up to date.  AirPort Utility on the G4 is 5.4.2 and on 6.0 on the MBP.  I bought a used AirPort card for the G4, I believe it is 802.11b compatible, and the wireless data rate is specified at 11 Mbps.  Being a newbie to wireless, it took me many days to get these two machines to link up.  This network is not connected to the internet, and there no other networks in the vicinity.
My last problem to solve is the very slow file transfer speeds between the two machines. The transfer time seems to vary depending on which machine I use to initiate the transfer, and which direction the transfer is going.  For example: If I initiate the transfer from the G4 and send a 5.4MB file to the MBP it takes 1:32 (min:sec), while the same file going from the MBP to the G4 takes 27 seconds.  On the other hand if the transfer is initiated on the MBP, going from the MBP to the G4 takes 2:56, while going from the G4 to the MBP takes 1:59.  I realize that these times are not actual wireless transfer times but includes the entire transfer process.
Both machines and the AirPort Express are within a 4-foot radius.  Both machines are set to radio channel 2.  The AirPort Express is set for 802.11n(802.11b/g compatible) with WPA/WPA2 Personal wireless security.
    Any help would be appreciated.

    BDAqua,
    Thanks for the response.
Apple has used the term "Digital Audio" to identify this machine.  System Profiler has the following information:
    Machine Name:          Power Mac G4
      Machine Model:          PowerMac3,5
      CPU Type:          PowerPC G4  (2.1)
      Number Of CPUs:          1
      CPU Speed:          800 MHz
L2 Cache (per CPU):          256 KB
      Memory:          768 MB
      Bus Speed:          133 MHz
      Boot ROM Version:          4.3.3f2
      Serial Number:          XBxxxxxMK9
      Sales Order Number:
Yes, I could connect them by ethernet if all I wanted to do was transfer files, but I would like to network them so I could use wireless internet.  The machines are not always so close together, I did that to simplify the testing.  With the very slow transfer speeds I am reluctant to move ahead with the internet step.

  • Should I buy the 2013 13" macbook pro or 2012 15"(refurbished) macbook pro

Hey guys, so basically to start off, I've never bought a mac before however i have an iphone 5, ipad 3rd gen, and ipod nano 3rd gen. So im now looking for a new laptop as my windows desktop is pretty old and slow. I've been looking at buying either the 2013 13" retina display macbook pro or the 2012 15" refurbished macbook pro. Im at university studying civil engineering, so im mainly going to be using it for creating documents and using some subject specific programmes as well as the normal stuff such as social networking, photos, watching movies etc. The reason I am looking at getting the mid-2012 refurbished 15" is because of the larger screen, dvd drive, and i7 processor, and easier cababilities of upgrading and repairing, however ive also heard that the new mavericks system can slow down the performance of older macs. Obviously the retina display of the 2013 13" would be nice but not exactly necessary for me and also therefore, it feels as though i would be getting more for my money with the 2012 15". The cost of the 13" i5 2013 will be £945.60 (education pricing) and £1,189.00 for the 15" i7 2012 (I wouldnt want to be paying more than that). Any advice would be amazing as im really stuck between choosing these two!! Thanks

  • The fan in my Macbook Pro heats up

The fan in my Macbook Pro heats up quite fast.
I wanted to know how much it would cost to get it fixed as I don't have Apple care and my warranty has expired?

Buy an external microphone or a headset. Which type depends on what type Mac you have. The 13" model has a single combo jack, the 15" and 17" models have separate input and output jacks.

  • How do i configure my gamepad to play fifa 2012 on my macbook pro 2011

i just can't use my gamepad to play fifa 2012 on my macbook pro. pls what should i do?

You already marked your post as being solved!
If you still need help, contact the game manufacturer.  You will need to determine from them if the game & gamepad is compatible w/your computer and/or OS to use and/or play.

  • 15 inch Retina Macbook Pro making an annoying whining sound

My 15 inch Retina Macbook Pro suddenly began making a loud whining sound. I have been working her hard recently, but even when I let her rest the sound continues. It seems to be coming from the upper left conner of the machine near the W key. Any suggestions how, or if, I can fix this?

SMC reset should fix it: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964

  • My macBook Pro heats up so hot and nearly burning my lap

my macBook Pro heats up so hot and nearly burning my lap.  Anything wrong with it?  Should I bring it to Apple store?

Here's a search of cooling pads for MacBooks. I use one that just elevates my MacBook Pro off my lap so air can circulate between my lap and it...... letting the Mac's fan work best. You have to keep the air from being blocked going in and out of it and clothing and blankets interrupt that.
MacBooks tend to heat up if you are taxing it with video games and steaming videos, etc.. Maybe yours is at the age where the battery may be on it's way out. When mine neared the end of it's life it heated up quite a bit raising the temps for the whole machine.
Here's the free Temperature monitor. Maybe it can point to something.

  • Does anyones Macbook Pro heat up?

I find that my Macbook Pro heats up and gets hot.
    Is this normal?
Does anyone else find theirs does this?
It's not even a year old

It's normal depending on how hard you're working it.
Do a search for "Activity Monitor," launch the application, and monitor the CPU usage.

  • Late 2012, 13'' Retina MacBook Pro, Display bug

Hello, I am having a late 2012, 13'' Retina MacBook Pro(i7, 8Gb). Last year I upgraded to Mavericks. Immediately after upgrading I notice that my MacBook is bit slow. I always keep my OS X up-to-date. Last month I noticed something really strange.
    1. Whenever I manually put my MacBook to sleep by clicking sleep command under the apple logo (top left hand corner of the screen) then the way the display turns off is not normal. I mean its not smooth as it was earlier. I have compared this with the new hardwares (MacBook Pro's) in the apple store.
    2. After I put my notebook to sleep, when I try to wake it up within 5-10/15 mins, the screen flashes very quickly before entering password.
These issues are bugging me a lot. I also have apple care. I called senior adviser and described the issue. I got scared when he mentioned that there might be some issue with my logic board/graphic card.
I also performed Apple Hardware Test by myself and also booked an appointment with the Apple Genius Bar guys but everything came up normal.
Is there any particular test I need to mention to the Genius bar guys to test with there unique hardware checking tool?
Note: I did clean install of OS X couple of times, also did SMC reset & PRAM reset.
Recently I updated with latest OS X update 10.9.4 hoping that this issue will resolve but no luck.
I am wondering whether any of you guys have experienced similar issue or I am the only one. Is it something I should worry about because I still have apple care and if it requires major hardware change then I can easy get it done without paying any $$$$. I know logic boards are pretty expensive.
    Thank you!

The screen glitches that have been most likely when upgrading to 10.9.3 are quick, brief flashes of yellow, pink, etc., light on screens immediately before login. It doesn't sound as if you're having that problem.
If QuickTime won't record the glitches, then it's unlikely to be a problem with your GPU - most likely a screen glitch (if that) or a OS X glitch, nothing related to Flash Player.
However, if I were you, I would take the machine into your local Apple Store and have the techs run some tests. They may want to install OS X anew, so I would make certain that you have a backup before taking your machine into the techs.
    Good luck,
    Clinton

  • What size SSD does the 13 inch 2012 entry-level MacBook Pro use?

I want to upgrade my 2012 13" MacBook Pro to use an SSD. I know that MacBooks use 2.5 inch laptop drives, but what are the sizes that MacBooks support?
    12.5mm, 9mm or 7.5mm etc...?

Most if not all SSDs are of the 9mm size and have a rubber bumper on them to make them taller, the 12.5 size. you can take the bumper system off most of them to make them fit into a 9mm space. But your Mac will take any size UP To 12.5mm. Not so for the optical bay.

  • I want to daisy chain my 15 inch mid 2012 non retina macbook pro to a 2012 27inch imac and then to a 27 inch thunderbolt display

I have a mid 2012 non retina 15inch macbook pro, and a 27inch 2012 imac, and a 27inch thunderbolt dsplay and I want to use the imac and the thunderbolt display as dual monitors for my macbook pro and daisy chain them together.  I have an extra thunderbolt cable,  How would I go about doing this,  every time I try to connect it via Target Display mode it only shows up on the imac and the thunderbolt diplay shows the imac screen but I cannot access anything on it. I would love some help,  I am probably just missing something simple.

Yes there is on Mac computers that do not come from the factory with "Built In", Note the Words Built In, DVD drive.
On all Mac computers that come with Built In DVD drive Apple has Restricted the installation of Windows from ONLY That Built In drive and Only when it is Physically installed inside the system.
Many people have tried what you want to do and to my knowledge None have been successful.
It is something that is Hard Wired, Written, into the Firmware of these Mac computers.
Some have tried installing Windows on the standard HDD and then moving that HDD to the optical bay or leaving it in the main bay and installing a SSD into either the main drive bay or optical bay and have been greeted with the system not booting to either OS or not booting to Windows.
Something about how boot camp sets up the drive and possibly makes changes to the Firmware or EFI partition on the drive that Windows is installed to or to both that restrict it. You can't even make another Mac OS X partition on that drive without screwing up the Windows install.
To your last post the Answer is NO as stated above.
