2012 Deployment using WDS

I was wondering does anyone use WDS to deploy 2012/2012R2 to HP Proliant servers (G7s,G8s,G9s)?
If so, can you tell me your experience?  Easy to setup and use as compared to Intelligent Provisioning on the G8s and G9s?
Thanks!

Hi
For the WDS deploy process always is same, such as all the first step may be is add dirvers to boot image,When we use WDS to deploy image often need to use multiple drivers,
you can install the HP SoftPaq Download Manager utility to download drivers.

  • Installing Windows 8 using WDS on devices that use UEFI BIOS

Hi all, sorry for the word wall.
I am currently planning a deployment of Windows 8.1 Upgrade 1 on Toshiba Z10T's which I will be deploying using WDS, which is running on Windows Server 2012 R2.
The Toshiba Z10T device in question is quite handy as it can switching between legacy CSM BIOS and UEFI BIOS.
The devices are shipped out of the box with UEFI BIOS on, and obviously we would like to be able to just un-box & image them, however we have constant issues when trying to PXE boot devices with UEFI BIOS, and the only way I can get them to PXE boot
is by switching over to legacy CSM BIOS.
From what I have read from other forums on the internet, UEFI & WDS don't get on that well - so what I was wondering is this-
We currently have SCCM 2012- I was wondering would we have more success booting to a UEFI BIOS if I used SCCM & MDT or will I still encounter the same issues?  Is it the PXE client in UEFI that is at fault?
Problems that we encounter when we use UEFI to PXE boot are- Drivers not there to get into to the boot image; if we can get them to image, devices will not join to the domain; devices will image but not install any drivers.
Thanks for reading this word wall.

PXE itself doesn't use/need any drivers at all - it's the post-boot (boot image), and the full OS (install image) which need the drivers.
PXE is totally contained within ROM, and that ROM will download the NBP (for non-UEFI this is typically wdsnbp.com)(for UEFI this is typically bootmgfw.efi).
In a ConfigMgr (or MDT) scenario, the NBP then downloads boot.sdi, boot.wim(WinPE) and then install.wim(Full OS).
Both boot.wim, and install.wim, need to have the correct network card drivers and also the correct storage controller drivers installed.
This is how Windows deployment via PXE works (it's most often the lack of the correct drivers, at the required stage/phase, which causes grief)
    [background]
Although we have a small number of Z10Ta and Z10Tb devices in my organisation, we are still using the factory image on them, so I haven't spent the time to incorporate them into our ConfigMgr OSD (PXE) supported-list yet.
We are just starting our journey towards UEFI-boot. We are using MDT UFD bootable media for our lab and it's working fine for UEFI and Win8.1/64bit, on various devices (although not tried the Z10Ta/b). Am nearly finished moving that all into ConfigMgr, to
then begin testing it all with PXE.

  • GroupWise 2012 Deployment Bundle Issue - Not Installing

    Hello There,
I have an issue to deploy the GroupWise 2012 client via Zen 11.1 (Had no prob to deploy GroupWise 8)
I followed the well-done tutorial from youtube (Novell GroupWise 2012 Deployed Using ZCM 11 SP1 Part 1 - YouTube) or/and the guide (http://www.novell.com/feeds/nih/wp-c...5/GW06_lab.pdf) but it seems that it does not want to work as shown. I googled to see if anyone had the same prob but it seems not to be the case. So I assume I missed something but I do not find the trick.
Everything works until it launches the install.bat as when I get the notification that it has completed the installation the only thing I see is that no GroupWise 2012 is installed at all and that GroupWise 8 has been uninstalled. During the process I see that it copies the first 800 files in Program Files\novell\groupwise but just before telling me that he finished all files are removed. I did not do the step where it should launch GroupWise.
I re-created a bundles and tried to install GroupWise 2012 as GroupWise 8 but it did not work.
It is really frustrating as I really need it to be deployed and that it was meant to be simple.
I would be grateful if anyone could help on that.
    Thank you in advance,
    OAKFND

I don't have GW for any type of testing, but what I would do for testing
    is .......
Replace the Install.bat with just calling CMD.exe
    then from the command prompt
walk through the commands in the install.bat one by one to see what is
    happening............

  • How to create PBR functionality using WDS deployment

    Dear sir/madam,
We are a Dutch OEM currently working on deployment and DIS. I have a question about deployment I’m hoping you can help us with.
We were tought to deploy images via USB using the following script:
    dism /Apply-Image /ImageFile:%1 /Index:1 /ApplyDir:W:\
    md T:\Recovery\WindowsRE
    attrib -h -a -s W:\windows\system32\recovery\winre.wim
    copy W:\windows\system32\recovery\winre.wim T:\Recovery\WindowsRE\winre.wim
    W:\Windows\System32\bcdboot W:\Windows /s S:
    W:\Windows\System32\reagentc /setreimage /path T:\Recovery\WindowsRE /target W:\Windows
    Mkdir R:\RecoveryImage
    Copy %2 R:\RecoveryImage\
    W:\Windows\System32\reagentc /setosimage /path R:\RecoveryImage /target W:\Windows /index 1
This works perfectly for single systems. However, since we’re planning on building a lot of units we want to automate installation over network. We’re building a solution to deploy custom images on tablets, laptops and desktops based on
WDS. We currently have a working MS Server 2012 WDS server and several working custom images. The question we have is regarding the system recovery functions (PBR). I’ve managed to automate login to WDS, language choice and disk partitioning using WDSunattend
(see below). WinRE and Recovery Image partitions are created. We can manually select the image we want to deploy and it will successfully install to the Windows partition.

Here’s the problem: I can’t find any information on creating PBR functionality using unattend anywhere. Is this possible? If it is, can you help us find a solution?
Since I can’t find any info on creating PBR using unattend I’m assuming that we have to add PBR functionality using scripts after Windows setup is completed. How do we get this done using WDS?
    With kind regards,
    Frank Wessels.

    Hi,
We could use deploymenr scripts to configure the recovery partitions:
Samples: Applying Windows, System, and Recovery Partitions by using a Deployment Script
More information regarding Capture and Apply Windows, System, and Recovery Partitions, please check:

    Hope this may help

  • 2012R2 Deployment with WDS yields Driver could not be installed error

    Hi
I'm using WDS installed on a 2008R2 SP1 server.  My boot image is from Windows 2012.  When I deploy a Windows 2012
R2 image I recive an error dialog during setup that states "Windows installation cannot continue because a required driver could not be installed."  In checking the setupact.log file it appears as though setup can't find pkgmgr.exe.
If I use the boot image from 2012 R2 then it works fine.  I want to continue using my existing boot image from 2012.  Any thoughts on why this is failing?

    Hi,
The WinPE version is 4.0 in using boot image on Windows Server 2012, which does not support deploy Windows 8.1/2012 R2.
You should use WinPE 5.0 (from Windows Server 2012 R2) as you just tested.

  • Multicast deployment with WDS 2012R2

    Hi,
Testing WDS multicast deployment using Server 2012 R2. DHCP is also on the same box.
Unicast deployment work fine. Tested multicast scenarios but didn't helped.
    Following the URL:
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/forums/windowsserver/en-US/bba1f5d1-41ff-4351-8d6c-3070b2052a59/wds-and-multicasting-session-is-starting-too-soon
But it didn't helped either, nothing found in logs we well, even there were no log generated for multicast transmission.
Note: I don't have configured anything on Switch right now.
    Any suggestions?
    N.A.Malik

    Hi,
I think this article will be helpful, please refer to subtitle “Prerequisites
    for creating a multicast transmission”

  • How do I activate Office 2013 that I have deployed using ODT and App-V onto a Remote Desktop Server?

    I am setting up a demo Server 2012 R2 environment (1 DC server, 2 RDSH servers, 1 App-V server).
I have created an Office 2013 volume license App-V package using the latest Office Deployment Toolkit. I have deployed the App-V package to an RDS server and it all works fine. However, I am unable to activate Office 2013 using the MSDN Office 2013 retail
key because it tells me the product key is invalid for this version of Office. I've looked at the alternative of using the App-V Sequencer to create the Office 2013 package, but from what I've read this is not a Microsoft supported method.
Is there any way that I can activate Office 2013 (volume license on RDS) using the method I've outlined above, or is there any way of using the Office2013 download from MSDN such that it can be packaged by the ODT (or App-V Sequencer) for successful deployment
using App-V and activation using the retail Office 2013 product key on MSDN?

True, VL channel media can't be activated with MSDN Retail pkeys (that's what I was trying to get you to understand, I figured you would be attempting that, as so many people do :(
I've not attempted your scenario myself.
    It sounds like you aren't following the supported scenarios as (poorly) described by MS;
The way I read their guide, for an RDS scenario, you must use a VL key [either MAK or KMS] (since a subscription product+key can't be used on RDS):
    i.e.: <Product ID="ProPlusVolume">
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2772509
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2915745
    http://technet.microsoft.com/library/dn481351.aspxhttp://blogs.technet.com/b/office_resource_kit/archive/2013/12/02/announcing-app-v-5-0-sp2-support-for-office-2013-volume-licensing-editions.aspx
So, that all means that for RDS, you can't use anything other than VL "product" (in
the form of an ODT-generated output) with a VL pkey. So, for your RDS demo setup, you need to use real product and real pkeys.

  • RDS 2012 Deployment guide

    Hi,
I'm looking for a RDS 2012 Deployment Guide or best practices document but not finding it.  Basically I'm looking for the equivalent of the document below but for Server 2012 R2 instead of 2008 R2
<won't let me add link to body yet>
We are planning a new RDS implementation and want to make sure we get the environment and resources right from the beginning.  Initially I'm mainly curious about the recommendations on how many servers are needed and which roles can be combined
on single servers and which need to be broken out onto their own boxes.  For example is it best to have the RD Gateway and the RD Web Access roles on their own individual servers or should/can they be combined on to one box in the DMZ?
If separate; can one of them also double as the connection broker?  That sort of thing.
    Any help is appreciated.  Thanks

    Hi Col,
Have a look at the following articles:
    http://ryanmangansitblog.com/2013/09/27/rds-2012-deployment-and-configuration-guides/
I would recommend that you look at splitting the roles on a large environment or use a layer 7 load balancer so you can scale up the number of Gateway/RDweb servers if your connections grow.
I would advise against configuring the connection broker on a server which has a connection to the public interface (web and remote access via gateway). I would advise against exceeding 400 connections per RD Gateway server.
    a example configuration:
Server 1 : connection broker and Licensing role
    Server 2 : Session host
Server 3 : RDWeb and RD Gateway.
This may help you with regards to capacity planning:

  • Deployment failes (WDS+MDT2013)

To make a long story short:
Image procedure is: capture image from a Vmware client Windows 7 SP1 installation. Import into MDT2013, make a new Task Sequence for deploying that Image. Edit unattend xml in that TS to copyprofile.
Update Deployment Share and import the wim into WDS. Booting client with network boot and choose the image to deploy.
After making a new capture from a client and import into MDT. I thought this time i do not edit the TS because the name of the imported image is the same. Then updated the deployment share.
When i tried to deploy this image a error on the client appears. First i get the menu which is in WDS on the client and choose deploy W7. The client is loading LiteTouchPE_x86.wim but when he is finished loading a Windows error problem occurs:
Windows failed to start. Recent hardware change might be the cause. This message appears also when
somthing is wrong with Windows when he is not starting.
On the error screen beneath it says: Status: 0xc0000017    An unexpected error has occured.
So i think maybe this is due that i did not make a TS change. So i deleted the TS and meade
a new one then do a edit unattend.xml. When i choose edit unattend xml a second problem arised: he tries to open the unattend but gives a error. So i start system image manually and want to open the unattend.xml which is in the control\imagename folder. Then
he says that the unattend is not attached to an image?
It looks like something is wrong with the LiteTouchPE_x86.wim but how can i see what it is?

    Hi Freddie,
I am not quite familiar with MDT and there have a specific forum to support the MDT question, more detail about the MDT question please post to the MDT support forum. At WDS
side you can enable your WDS logging then post the error when this issue occur.

  • Error while deploying using ant in 11g

    Hi all,
I am trying to deploy order demo application using ant from command line in SOA 11g. I just ran the ant script to package the composite and it is giving me below mentioned error. It is referring to 1 file in all the wsdls and creating problem. Actualy, JMS_FedEx.wsdl is partner link to JMS Adapter that writes to a queue. I am confused because I have 2 more adapter created on similiar lines like this but while compiling no error references are made to those wsdls. I am not sure What's wrong with this wsdl. However, Composite gets complied and deployed using Jdeveloper. Please provide your Inputs.

    Hi Suresh,
This forum is for SCOM related questions, it seems like that you are asking for powershell script to install Mysql. From my point of view, I don't think that using powershell to install Mysql is an easy way, as it is hard to say whether Powershell can get
information from Mysql install console with some API.
In addition, for further assistance, please contact MySQL forum and Powershell forum.
    Thanks for your understanding!

We were trying to install WSUS role on Windows Server 2012 R2 using dedicated SQL Instance with static port on remote SQL Server 2012 SP1 CU7 on Windows Server 2012 R2.
It verifies the connection and then throws the error:
The request to add or remove features on the specified server failed. The operation cannot be completed, because the server you specified requires a restart.
Same error even after rebooting the server multiple times.

The MSSQL$MICROSOFT##WID service was unable to log on as NT SERVICE\MSSQL$MICROSOFT##WID with the currently configured password due to the following error:
Logon failure: the user has not been granted the requested logon type at this computer.
    Service: MSSQL$MICROSOFT##WID
    Domain and account: NT SERVICE\MSSQL$MICROSOFT##WID
This service account does not have the required user right "Log on as a service."
    User Action
Assign "Log on as a service" to the service account on this computer. You can use Local Security Settings (Secpol.msc) to do this. If this computer is a node in a cluster, check that this user
right is assigned to the Cluster service account on all nodes in the cluster.
If you have already assigned this user right to the service account, and the user right appears to be removed, check with your domain administrator to find out if a Group Policy object associated
with this node might be removing the right.
    I found following article:
"MSSQL$MICROSOFT##WID service was unable to log on as NT SERVICE\MSSQL$MICROSOFT##WID" error when you install WID in Windows Server 2012
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2832204/en-us
To work around the issue, use one of the following methods:
Assign the Log on as a service user right to NT SERVICE\ALL SERVICES in the GPO that defines the user right.
Exclude the computer from the GPO that defines the user right.
We moved the SCCM server to OU where no policies were getting applied and then applied the new GPO to that OU. Restarted the server and we were able to install WSUS role.

  • Problem with CORBA application deployed using Java Web Start 1_6_0.

Java Web Start fans and experts:
We have been using Java Web Start to deploy the client side of a CORBA-based application since the inception of Java Web Start ... including Java Web Start 1.0 right up through the present.
With Java Web Start 1_6_0, we see evidence that Web Start is "tinkering with" the IOR that CORBA uses to communicate. In all previous versions of Java Web Start, independent of the JRE which the application uses, the stringified IOR have been the same size regardless of whether the application is deployed locally or via Java Web Start. With Java Web Start 1_6_0, the stringified IOR is much longer than the "real" IOR (again, regardless of the JRE used by the application itself). To me this smells like a bug in Java Web Start 1_6_0. Has anyone else observed this behavior?
Here are some specifics .... I've run the same client application with various JREs both with and without Java Web Start as the deployment mechanism. The application was compiled and runs against servers that are running JDK 1_5_0_09.
Here is the summary of my results from a Linux box running various JREs, various versions of Java Web Start, and also running as a non-JWS deployed application. I've listed the length of the stringified IOR in each case.
    JRE 1.5.0 non-JWS client: stringified IOR length = 344
JRE 1.6.0 non-JWS client: stringified IOR length = 344 ... this, I think, excludes the JRE as the cause of these problems.
Java WS 1.5.0, JRE 1.5.0 JWS client: stringified IOR length = 344
Java WS 1.5.0, JRE 1.6.0 JWS client: stringified IOR length = 344
Java WS 1.6.0, JRE 1.6.0 JWS client: stringified IOR length = 1568
Java WS 1.6.0, JRE 1.5.0 JWS cleint: stringified IOR length = 1568
In all cases, the stringified IOR length is determined by the service receiving the message and is always running JRE 1_5_9_09 and is
always the same 344 characters in length UNLESS it was deployed
using Java Web Start 1_6_0, in which case it in nearly 5 times as big!
To me, it sure looks as if there is a problem with Java Web Start 1_6_0 to be adding so much to the stringified IOR. Note: it's hard to tell how different the underlying IOR is in the JWS 1_6_0 case because, unlike most other ORBs, the Sun ORB doesn't have a tool to extract the IOR into a human readable structure. However, I can think of no good reason why the identical application deployed using Java Web Start 1_6_0 should have a stringified IOR length that is different than that of the same application deployed in non-JWS form or should differ from the behavior seen in all previous releases of Java Web Start.
Any clues or suggestions? Has anyone else observed this behavior?
    Thanks,
    John

  • Extend range of unencrypted WLAN of third party router *without* using WDS

    Hello,
Imagine the following scenario for which I would like to find a solution -- but I think it's impossible, so I'm looking for hints:
My neighbour operates an open (unencrypted, unprotected) wireless network that I can use. He uses a third party WLAN router that does not support WDS. I have good reception only in a certain area in our house, so I would like to extend the range of the network, using my Airport Express station (or possibly other hardware).
I cannot make changes to the configuration of my neighbours router anyway, because we don't know the password for the configuration pages (and we don't want to reset the device to factory defaults).
I know that normally one would configure the two routers (his and mine) to use WDS (each knows the other's MAC address, uses the same channel, SSID and encryption setting etc.), but this is not possible here.
I could join his network with my powerbook wirelessly and then set up sharing preferences on the powerbook such that the WLAN internet connection would be shared onto the ethernet port to which I would connect my Airport Express station to allow wireless access by other machines. This isn't the cleanest setup because I think my powerbook would have to distribute IP addresses using DHCP and NAT which my neighbour's router does, too, so we should not use the same IP range (e.g. would use 192.168.1.xxx and I would use 10.0.1.xxx) and probably we shouldn't use the same SSID, either.
Because there's no WDS support, something like the above seems to be the only solution to me, namely: I would have to join his network as a normal client and the redistribute more or less separately (different subnet/different SSID/different IP address range/...).
Now, the Airport Express can join an existing network as a client, but despite the displayed settings in Airport Admin Utility, bridging to the ehternet port or Airport Express does not work. I have read a lot of Apple documentation, and my understanding is that when setting up Airport Express to join an existing wireless network, the only purpose would be to use it as the receiving end for iTunes music streaming and possibly to connect a printer to it; but the ethernet is completely disabled. (It took me hours to figure this out because the Admin utility clearly suggests that the station would operate as WLAN-ethernet bridge in this setting, but it doesn't.)
So do you have any other solutions to this problem? WOuld an AIrport Extreme station be capable of doing this?
I don't want to use my powerbook as the 'bridge' to share the WLAN connection to the ethernet port as described above because that would require my powerbook to be on alll the time and be located in an inconvenient place.
    Thanks for your replies!
P.S.: I do have some older/other wireless routers available, but I think they're not going to help because they won't allow this rather unusual setting. They're all very basic.
Powerbook G4 1 GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.7)   Airport Express

WOuld an AIrport Extreme station be capable of doing this?
No. The only way an AirPort Extreme base station (AEBS) can wirelessly join a network is using WDS. It does not offer the wireless client mode like the AirPort Express (AX).
Using your PowerBook as you suggested is the only solution using Apple's devices.
There may be 3rd party repeaters that you can use but I have no experience with them.
