2012 MacBook Pro Intel i7 (purchased May 2013) constantly drops airport connection. My 2006 MacBook Pro has no problems connecting and staying connected.

I received a 2012 MacBook Pro INtel i7 for my birthday this May 2013. It constantly drops my airport connection. My ancient 2006 MacBook Pro has no problem connecting to airport, nor staying connected. I've had to write this message several times as I keep losing the airport connection and have to reconnect. BTW: I am less than five feet from the airport base.
Thanks for help.

After trying all of the above the suggestions, the problem returned as before. However, after digging some more I discovered that the issue appears to lie with the 10.4.10 version of the Mac OS; when I checked the software log under the system profiler I noticed that I had installed that update at about the time my Airport problems began. Apple then quietly released a v 1.1 combo update to 10.4.10 on July 2nd, which once installed appears to have resolved the problem. You can find the download at http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/macosx10410comboupdatev11intel.html
What's curious is that originally Apple listed that the v 1.1 combo update resolved some issues with RAW image data, and some sound problems, which don't seem to have anything to do with Airport.

  • 2 x Apple TV 3 units purchased late 2013 both dropping WiFi or performing terribly after sleeping

    Hello,
I purchased these 2 apple TV units separately.  One of them was purchased from the Apple store in July 2013 and the other in September 2013.  They operate perfectly when I used a wired connection but when I use WiFi they both drop the connection randomly and perform terribly (unusable) when coming out of sleep.  When the Apple TV's are rebooted they work well again but I shouldn't have to restart them every time I want to use them after they've been sleeping.
The WiFi AP I use is a D-Link DAP-2310.  In addition to running the AP as 802.11b/g/n I've tried to configure it as 802.11b only, 802.11b/g only and 802.11n only.  This makes no difference with the performance other than in 802.11b only it's just slow all the time of course.  While configured as 802.11b/g only I turned off WMM but this made no difference.  The network performance was absolutely terrible (unusable) after they were sleeping as usual.  AFAIK with 802.11n WMM is always on since the option is greyed out and set to "yes" when 802.11n only mode is set.
My wife's PC uses WiFi and has no problems (continuously using 802.11n).  My MacBook Air uses 802.11n continuously with no down-grade to a lower 802.11 mode and has no problems.  I've ensured my WiFi channel is not being used by any other visible SSID around my house.  I am using channel 3 and no one else is.
I heard about an Apple TV 3 replacement program and originally the serial numbers that had the problem matched my unit but apparently Apple had the positions of the letters wrong and my Apple TV's no longer qualify for this replacement program. (See https://discussions.apple.com/message/21802730#21802730 for more info on that)
Not sure what my next move should be.

    Hi vazandrew,
Thanks for replying.  I downloaded iStumbler but it pretty much does the same thing as the WiFi diagnostics tools built into OSX (some information http://osxdaily.com/2012/07/31/wi-fi-scanner-mac-os-x-mountain-lion/).
I used the WiFi diagnostics tools to make sure the signal was good in the rooms where the Apple TV 3 units and also made sure nothing else was using the same channel.  It's possible, although not likely because I live in a fairly rural area, that someone has a non-broadcasted SSID on the same channel as me.  I don't think that's the case though.
I did switch channels a few times over the course of 3-4 days last week but that didn't make any difference in the performance after sleep on the ATV3 units.  I also changed from 40MHz to 20Mhz channel width as well.  These changes made no difference.  The ATV3 units still had terrible and unsuable network performance until they were restarted.  A power cycle is not necessary though - just a restart.
I've had the DLink AP for just around a year.  My previous WiFi router died so I stepped up to a Cisco RV042G and a DLink AP so if my WiFi bridge died I'd just be replacing the AP instead of a whole router.
Since the problem is with both ATV3 units its either both of them because they are similar production times *OR* the AP itself.  Since I have absolutely no problems with WiFi on my laptop or my wive's PC though that kind of leaves the ATV3 units as being misbehaving.
Maybe I'll just have to spend a few bucks on some cabling and a small switch and put wired ethernet on these suckers.

Recently purchased iPad Mini.  Downloaded iOS 6.0.1.  Could not get it to connect to Home WiFi using Linksys G Router.  Have another Wifi Network in Home (CenturyLink provided it as a DSL/Router combo).  Would not connect (nor would my iPhone 4s or my wife's iPhone 4) until I accessed the router's setting and changed to broadcast on Channel 6 and then IPad connected.  I suspect the only reason the iPhone were still connected to the Linksys network is that they were before I "upgraded to iOS 6.  Even after 6.0.2 the iPad and both iPhones will not connect to some home networks (its random) although thye will connect to public networks e.g. McDonald's, Panera, etc.

  • Buttons not working XPS 12 (purchased May 2013 Dell Germany)

Right and left-click buttons suddenly stopped working, at same time volume switch problem appears (cannot raise volume). Rest of mouse pad works. Updated driver installed as advised by Dell on-line, but no change. What are my options? Could this be a physical issue. If so is it advisable to remove back cover and physically clean?

    Greetings !
Thank you for writing to the Dell Community Forum.
To resolve this issue I would request you to assist me by performing these troubleshooting steps ,
1)Check and advise if an external mouse is connected do the right and left click buttons on the external mouse work fine.
2)When you mentioned that the volume switch has an issue are you referring to the volume control button to the left of the system or are you referring to the volume control bar which can be operated via the operating system .
(By this we are trying to eliminate if its the issue with the OS or the system's hardware )
3)Also I would like to know if the an external speaker or headphone is connect do we hear audio .
Awaiting a reply from you .

  • New MacBook Air having trouble connecting to the network and staying connected

I have an iMac as my prime and a MacBook Air as my remote. My network is all Apple. If I close the lid on my MacBook Air it immediately disappears from finder as a shared resource. However, if on first run though I put it to sleep and then close the lid, it will remain on the network as a shared resource. From hereon in, I can just close the lid to put it to sleep and its fine.
If I restart either computer or both computers, I have to go through the first run routine again. What makes matters worse is I’m trying to do an 11pm Retrospect backup of the Air and if it gets lost from the network Retrospect is unable to find the device. I have to do a locate in Retrospect and then let it do its backup.
I think this putting it to sleep on first run and then closing the lid to maintain stability is just a workaround I accidentally discovered. I don’t think it should be working like this. I think if I just close the lid and let it sleep that way on first run it should remain on the network as a shared resource and I should continue to see it on my iMac in Finder but this isn’t the case.
I’m really looking for opinions on this issue, if others have experienced this and is there anything that can be done about it. I’ve got mixed messages from Apple Tech support but Retrospect tech support said I’m doing everything right. This to me seems like a bug in probably the software. The machine runs fine except for this one little quirk.
    Kerry

Yes its ticked. I’ve worked at this for two weeks and have gone through every iteration I can think of. Apple said that it is normal that the lid has to be open to have the shared resource but as long as on first sleep I put it to sleep first then close the lid it remains in the iMacs finder Window as a shared resource. And I can open and close the lid from thereon in and it is always there as a shared resource and Retrospect can locate it for backups.

  • MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Late 2013) LEFT USB PORT DISFUNTION

MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Late 2013) : Constantly disconnected and reconnected from my iPhone while using the left USB port. Is this a rare accident?

If the iPhone works correctly on the other port, then the fault lies within the MBP.  Bring it in for service.

  • How to connect to a 2006 macbook?

seems like this would be simple. but the only physical connection seemingly possible between a 2006 macbook and the 2011 imac is an ethernet cable.
I started transfering user to the new mac, but said it would take 42 hours. I found an old backup harddrive with USB cable and transfered that way. Is there a cable that'll connect a 2006 macbook to the new imac in a better way?
FYI: two different types of firewire connectors.

found a firewire 400 to 800 cable at best buy.

    HELP!!!!
Post relates to: Treo Pro T850U (Unlocked)

I have a treo pro as well.  Tried using hospital wifi where I work.  Indicates...searching..available...connecting....connected....then to the login and accept page.  Touch accept then  .....error message   405 method not allowed.
3G internet works great on the phone.  Haven't tried other hotspots yet.  Although the laptop that I use at work logs into the wifi at our hospital just fine.  Very strong signal strength.  My phone also indicates very strong signal strength as well.  Called our hospital ISD and they told me they'd had some problems with I-phones not working.  Acted like he didn't even know what a treo pro was, so not much help.
Any suggestions on different setting etc?  Don't know much about WEP, WAP...whatever all that stuff is.  Just found it clicking on this that and the other in the phone to see if I could get it working.
    Thank you

  • For the 2013 versions of macbook pro should I purchase 32 bit windows or 64 bit version to be able to install it on macbook and use windows with bootcamp?

for the 2013 versions of macbook pro should I purchase 32 bit windows or 64 bit version to be able to install it on macbook and use windows with bootcamp?

Then you might check at any of the other university book stores or software stores or any computer store in town for the 64-bit version.
If you want to use the 32-bit version from the school (you probably get it for free or very cheap) then you could purchase Parallels and run it as a virtual machine concurrently with OS X. There are some caveats:
    1. You have to purchase Parallels (there may be an academic discount.) List is $79.95.
    2. Your computer needs minimally 4 GBs of RAM, but realistically 8 GBs would be better.
    3. Parallels creates a pseudo-drive on your hard drive. It could easily require 50 GBs of disk space.
Accommodating these might be more costly than buying 64-bit Windows 7. And, if you look online you may find them with an academic discount (or may be able to order it through the school.)

  • HT1222 Security Update 2013-001 (Lion) may have disabled the DVI on my 17" MacBook Pro

It looks like Security Update 2013-001 (Lion) may have disabled the DVI on my 17" MacBook Pro ... 2006 vintage ... it worked fine before the upgrade.  Tested port with HD monitor using an HDMI adapter that worked before. Thanks for the help!

Thank you for the suggestion ... I repaired the disk ... repaired the permissions ... from the CMD+r restore partition ...
    No changes.
I'm in the process of doing a Software Update scan ...
Thanks for the suggestion ... hope there might be more ...
I know these are supposedly never monitored by Apple ... but I can always hope!

  • Wireless N upgrade for Macbook pro Intel Core Duo (Purchased 8/2006)???

Firstly, I am a little angered that apple has not come out with any directly supported options to allow people with my macbook pro to upgrade to the new wireless N capability.
Therefore I have found a 3rd party option that is being offered by fastmac (http://fastmac.com/ncard.php) that will allow for wireless N wifi.
My only concern is if having this installed (professionally by them or by an authorized reseller, say compusa) would cause my entire applecare warranty to be voided or just the part that covers the wireless card. I could deal with having the wireless card voided as it would be under warranty by fast mac...
Macbook pro intel core duo   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

Your warranty is not voided by installing the Airport card. However, any damage that may be caused by the installation of the card would not be covered under the warranty.
Secondly, the Airport Extreme card that supports 802.11n is available as an upgrade kit for Mac Pros. Some Apple dealers may be able to obtain and install the card for you in your computer.
