2012 Retina Macbook Pro WiFi problem
I have a 2012 Macbook Pro with Retina display that's been upgraded to Mountain Lion. It is having WiFi connection issues.
Specifically,
1. Upon startup it will not find the network. I have to turn off the wifi and turn it back on to have it find the network. Annoying. It used to happen only intermittently; now it happens every start up. It's getting worse.
2. It will randomly every few hours drop the wifi connection, requiring me to turn off the wifi and turn it back on.
I've tried the one fix people on here suggested: deleting the wifi network profile I use and putting it back in.
Didn't make a difference.
Has anyone found a better fix?
I'm disappointed that Apple released this version of OS with such a glaring problem. A laptop without a reliable wifi connection is a complete waste of money.
Happening to me too. Macbook Pro Retina Display with Mountain Lion. I'm experience occassional drops while actively working on my Macbook that requires me to turn off Wireless and turn it back on to get a connection. I've noticed this twice in two days.
I'm had my Macbook for about a week and immediately installed Mountain Lion, so I don't have a previous version to compare with. I could turn off Bluetooth at the moment, because I'm not using any Bluetooth devices, but it is likely I will be getting a bluetooth device in the future, then this workaround won't be useful.
I hope Apple can come up with a software patch?

Mid-2012 retina macbook pro nvidia gpu panics
I bought my mid-2012 retina macbook pro in September 2012. It is 8 months out of warranty. I always look after it and use it carefully. Since 2 weeks ago, I encountered the problems below,
1.turn into black screen after running for about 15 mins, but the system is still running because the keyboard is still functional. After reboot, i record the log as below, it shows that it is a GPU Panic.
2. display would not turn on after pressing the power button but can still hear the apple start up chime and the system keep running with the screen
off.
3. after erased the hard drive and re-installed Mavericks. Under a new installed system, it can run normally for about 1 day, after that especially after a shut down or restart, the problems above came back.
I am currently working in Thailand but I have no plan to go back to the US in a short period of time. I brought the laptop to the local apple service, they said it is certainly the logic board or GPU failure and the parts need to be replaced. The cost of the replacement is around half of the price that I paid for this laptop. I feel really disappointed so I called apple telephone service if there is anything that they can help. However, instead of helping me allocate the cause of these problems, the suggestion I received is to buy a new Mac Book and accept the fact that I am just unlucky in this case. This is the first time in my life to encounter mother board or GPU failure excluding artificial damage, they are supposed to be reliable espeically under the name of Apple. It is just so hard for me to accept it.
Below is the system message of the problem, it would be much appreciated if anyone can give me some suggestion that can help me to fix my problem at the lowest cost. Thank you very much.

Can i expand the SSD on my late 2012 Retina Macbook Pro from the current 128GB to 256GB or more
Can i expand the SSD on my late 2012 Retina Macbook Pro from the current 128GB to 256GB or more?
You can look here to see if they have anything available for your model, but be advised even opening a Retina voids the warranty.

Strange macbook pro wifi problems - selective wifi disconnection
I have 3 macbook pros, two iphones and an apple TV. My primary macbook pro has some very unusual wifi problems that are hard to pin down. It frequently disconnects and reconnects itself to the internet constantly throughout the day. I've been testing it in various ways and today I noticed the strangest anomaly by far.
While working today, my primary macbook pro could not connect to the internet through any of the 3 browsers I use. Airport Utility said the internet was down (internet icon was amber, airport icon was green). However during this disconnection, my p2p application (Soulseek) experienced no disruption of service and continued to download files. I opened my second macbook pro and strangely enough, the 2nd mac was able to connect to the internet through browsers without issue, and the airport utility on the 2nd macbook pro said the internet was connected. My Apple TV was connected too as well as my iPhone.
It is often difficult for me to troubleshoot network problems because there are so many variables (ISP, airport assembly, airport base station, OSX, airport utility, modem) but I guess in this particular instance, it seems clear that the problem has something to do with my macbook pro.
My primary macbook has always had wifi problems (and honestly, my last macbook--the one that actually worked today!--had similar issues back when it was my primary laptop). Last week, my primary macbook pro had the topcase, display and logic board replaced by Apple. When it came back, it had the same wifi connectivity issues it always had. Often, a restart will be a very temporary fix, but not always.
I am at a complete loss for what could be causing these lapses in service. In fact, right now as I was trying to access these forums, I could not even get my primary macbook to open the Apple Support Site on any browser. Every other website would open, except Apple Support. I opened my 2nd laptop and it opened Apple Support just fine. After 15 minutes, my primary laptop finally opened up an Apple support page in Firefox.
It is really hard to diagnose the problem. I find that Airport Utility has been so pared down and streamlined to the point that it is worthless. It is basically a blank window with 2 application logos inside. It looks very simple and user friendly until it has a problem, and then it tells me to do something very technical without an explanation for the layman (such as assigning DNS servers or putting the airport in Bridge mode). I always follow Airport Utility's advice, but I still have odd problems. I am often confused as to whether I should use Airport Utility or the Network button in System Preferences. They have the same options, but they're arranged under tabs with different titles.
Anyway, does anyone recognize these macbook pro wifi connectivity problems? Constant wifi disconnection on one machine (while all others experience no connection problems) coupled with instances of selective disconnection (like browsers not connecting while p2p is able to connect or browser connecting to some sites but not all?)
Thanks for any help or guidance

AirPort Express 7.6.4Same exact issue here. It happened once when I updated to Mavericks 10.9.2. It just happened again last night and I can't seem to fix it.
I tried all sorts of things like deleting the SystemConfiguration folder, PRAM, SMC, DNS flush, etc. Nothing helped. As I recall, the last time it happened it mysteriously fixed itself after a day or two.
Very weird problem. I have been troubleshooting computers my whole life but this one is tough to figure out. Other machines in the house connect up just fine. -
Retina Macbook Pro wifi too slow at home, other devices are fine though
I bought Retina macbook Pro 15inch couple months ago.
The internet speed seems ok at school, but when at home it is too slow that I can't do anything at all.
But my other devices like iphone/ ipad works great and has fast internet.
So I upgraded internet service, from 15mb speed to 30,
but it still is slow.
I turned off the bluetooth, and seemed like it help tiny bit with the speed but I can't have anything done with this speed.
Do I need to buy a new modem / router?
Thank you for the hlep in advance.Hold down the Option key and click on the WiFi Icon on the menuBar.
This will reveal all sorts of information about your Network and what is around you.
Look for what channel your Router is on. See if any other Routers are trying to use the same channel.
Look for the transmit level, something like -75.
Look for the transmit rate. -
2013 Retina MacBook Pro battery problem on Yosemite
Yosemite Battery Issue. Hi there. I have a late 2013 retina MacBook Pro, 13". Until upgrading to Yosemite I got almost 9 hours of use per charge. Now I get 2.5 to 3 hours. I can literally watch the battery indicator countdown. I turned off Bluetooth, I checked Activity Monitor. Nothing unusual going on that I can see. The battery is used up fast with just email and Safari open. Not a problem in Mavericks. Any ideas? Just another Yosemite bug? The diminution of use on battery is profound.
I have the same late 2013 retina laptop.
Same issues - battery level dropping 1% every minute after upgrading to Yosemite from Mavericks.
I don't use the Calendar however I noticed three services were all using more CPU than any others; Calendar Agent, AddressBookSourceSync and Openvpn-service.
My solution:
1. Turn off all calendar syncing by going to System Preferences > Internet Accounts and un-ticking Calendar (I use Google Calendar anyhow).
2. Top menu Finder > Go > Go to Folder ''~/Library/Calendars" and delete all the files in there- yer, I'm ruthless like that!
3. Top menu Finder > Go > Go to Folder "~/Library/Application Support/AddressBook" and deleted everything in there too.
4. Restarted calendar so it resets itself.
5. Reboot.
Result is that my three hogs have all been silenced - AddressBookSourceSync seemed to be using Openvpn-service was stuck and I guess the same for the calendar.
Battery life is back to 7 hours+ where it should be and the laptop is no longer on fire. I hope this helps someone -
Multiple problems with my 2012 Retina Macbook Pro
Hi,
I just got my 2012 Retina MBP with 16GB RAM and 768 GB HD. OS X Lion 10.7.4 is running and all requisite updates are installed. I am quite surprised at what I think are bugs that are associated with this MBP. Here are my issues. Hopefully someone can assist. Today being the 4th of July, their phone support is offline.
1. The trackpad does not work well after I open the trackpad app via preferences. I cannot scroll or do Mission Control or Expose for instance.
Yes, I have installed the following update to no avail: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1543
No, I do not see the "Macbook Pro Trackupade Update" as described within the following article: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4297? viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
2. Whenever I swipe with my 4 fingers to get to the next screen, the screen darkens and becomes completely black. This is highly unusual and does not happen with my Macbook Air or my imac.
3. I have about 4 Safari windows running on seperate screens and this seems to bring my machine to a crawl. This again has never been a problem with my MBA or my IMAC.
Pls Help!!
P.S. I will pay the "Geniuses" a visit tomorrow.Regarding point#2:
The Safari issue has abated however I observed that the "Windowserver" process is consistently taking up 90-100% of the CPU and thus bringing my machine to a crawl. It seems like others are experiencing similar issues. Here is one instance where this person's "windowserver" process is crashing.

This is very disappointing and underwhelming. -
New retina MacBook Pro - WiFi connectivity problems
Dear all,
I've recently purchased the new Haswell 13" retina MBP, and I'm having exactly the same WiFi connectivity problems the 2013 Airs had. I have a solid connection for a short time, and at irregular intervals it just drops out. All of my other devices are still connected and have no problems. I've tried with two different routers/modems, but the problem persists.
Is this a known problem - with hopefully a software fix in the forseeable future, or do I need to return the MacBook?
Many thanks in advance for your help,
NicI haven't got a Retina, but I do have the same wifi problem. And if you've looked at these forums, you'll see it's been going on for years and no one seems to have a handle on what the issue is. All I can say is if I were in your place I'd take it back and exchange it. You have the chance now, so take it.

Late 2013 15" Retina Macbook Pro - wifi connection timeout with one router
Hi,
I've recently purchased a new Macbook Pro retina 15 inch late 2013 model. Everything is fine at home, but at work I cannot connect to one wireless router (Netgear WAG102). The computer tries to connect but I get a connection timeout error after a few seconds for every attempt.
I have tried every suggestion for wifi issues that I can find on the forums, and have reset the router.
A colleague has also recently purchased the same computer except 13 inch model - he has exactly the same problem.
Any suggestions? I suspect given that two of us have the same problem that there is an incompatibility with the MBP and this particular router. I notice that there are quite a few discussions about similar issues with the macbook pro.I too have a MBP Retina, 15", late 2013, and am having wifi connection issues. I've tried several fixes suggested on these discussions and by Apple. Nothing corrects the problem. I've been told it's my router, but I find that difficult to believe give that my wife has a MBP 13" 2012 (non retina), that has no issues at all, nor do our iPhones. It's just my MBP Retina.
My issue seems to be when waking from sleep, I lose the wifi connection. I have to turn wifi of then on again, and it reconnects. The only thing that corrects the problem for me is when I disable bluetooth. I have the magic mouse and it's basically useless becuase I need bluetooth on for it to work.
I find this to be an annoying problem. This is my first MacBook, and I really like it, but this wifi thing is bad. Never had this problem with my Windows machines. -
Retina MacBook Pro sleep problem since 10.9.2
Ever since updating to 10.9.2 earlier in the week my macbook refuses to wake from sleep each morning.
Having looked at the console logs it seems that perhaps the problem is related to it not actually managing to go to sleep properly.
I closed the lid on the computer at about 19:07 as can be seen in the first of these console dumps. I put the laptop in my bag and went home, where the laptop stayed closed in my bag all night. Apparently the computer awoke 70 minutes later. In the morning, back at the office, I left the lid open for a good 5 minutes before deciding to reboot at 9:37, so it seems that the computer was indeed turned off as there was no activity in these minutes.

Late 2008 Macbook Pro WIFI problems
Hi Guys - got a 3 week old Macbook pro - gave my old Acer to the dog - but will now have to try and get it back because I'm having all sorts of problems with the WIFI connection - sometimes it works - sometimes it doesn't - there doesn't seem to be any reason for it failing - my Netgear router is working fine (I've built a Multimedia network with 8 of these Netgear routers so I know when they are working correctly) - I've tried all the usual things - switching off, renewing the IP address, typing a manual IP address, etc etc - nothing works - then he-presto - every thing's back again - one thing I have noticed is that even when you are connected to your router and have a good strong connection the Airport device seems to be still scanning for routers - is this because the signal level has dropped, or is it something built into the firmware. Once locked on does the system know that this is the station you want to stay locked onto even though there maybe a stronger signal close by, even on the same channel
Obviously there is a serious problem with the system as so many people have highlighted, I just want to keep the discussion going and hopefully Apple will get their act together - this is my first Mac - not a good experience for a convert, although every thing else is fine - Now to the dog, don't think this is going to be easy as he's found the doggytube websiteOne thing to try is making the network "G Only" instead of mixed. I have found that the "N" networks are still really flaky. I ran into this today with a brand new linksys router. It would connect but could not get DNS to save its life. Switched the linksys to "G only" network and the problem went away.

New MacBook Pro Wifi Problem Wap2
i have a problem with a new penryn macbook pro where it will not join my network if its in wap2 security mode and it will join no problem under wap mode, what is the issue here? anyone else experiencing this problem? I know i can live with Wap mode but wap2 is much more secure.
My router is a DIR-615 > Wireless N Router from Dlink.
Im using the latest base model macbook pro.Peter Di Arcangelo wrote:

Im using the latest base model macbook pro.
I also used the same router and ran into the same issue. I had to turn off my airport and turn it back on to get it to recognize and join the network.
When I upgraded my DSL service, I was given a 2Wire modem/router, I enabled WPA2 on it and surprisingly have had zero issues logging on with airport.
Thus, I think it may be a D-link issue not playing nice with Airport, IMO. -
New Macbook Pro Wifi Problem.
Hi everyone,
I just recently bought a macbook pro. The same night I bought it, I started to notice that I would get disconnected everytime I go to certain websites, download something, etc. I would then be disconnected for about 5-10 minutes and then the Wifi would start working again. Whenever I got disconnected, all other devices on the network did as well. ( There is one other laptop and 2 iPhones that use the wireless connection, but not always at the same time.)
The reason I am posting here, however, is because the wireless connection always worked fairly well before I purchased and began using the Macbook.
My router is a Netgear WGT624 v3. While connected to an ethernet cable, it works fine. But when I'm upstairs I get disconnected very frequently. I realize that there are multiple threads concerning people getting disconnected with Macbook Pro, so I wanted to ask if there was a possible solution.
I always have a good connection and signal when I am connected as well. Any help is greatly appreciated.
-KylFirmware update did the trick it seems. I feel dumb, should have known , thanks for your help.

My trackpad becomes REALLY unresponsive after I plug in a USB mouse. It seems like the cursor is broken and stuck on a permanent left click or something. I'm unable to select text or do any other sort of action that requires you to hold down the trackpad and drag. Mouse icons don't update as I scroll over different text and links. The trackpad is usually stuck in this unresponsive state until I restart my macbook which is extremely inconvenient if I have to do this after every time I use a USB mouse. Are there any fixes to this?
Melophage,
I don't leave it outside. Usually when I leave it overnight, I do so under the same conditions as when I leave it plugged in, and this morning I only left it for about an hour in my house and it did the same thing.
LowLuster,
I actually have a new hard drive I bought a while back and have been meaning to switch it out with the one that's in there now. I'll follow your instruction, then make the switch I had planned on and report back. -
Retina MacBook Pro Wifi Issues
Hey guys, I just got my rMBP today and the wifi is terrible on it. I have the 2.6, 16gb, 256gb ssd model with mountain lion. For some odd reason, when I'm at home my wifi connection constantly drops. I'm using a cisco WAP4410N AP, if that helps at all. I called apple but they weren't of much help. I also tested wifi at a relative's house, and, for some reason, it worked perfectly for the hour and half I used it. At home, even when I restart my modem, router, and ap, I can only get a max of 15 minutes before the connection drops. WiFi works perfectly on every single other device I have (Android phone, iPhones, tablet, other laptops), and I've tried switching wireless channels and broadcast type settings to no avail. I've deleted all the AirPort preference files (as the apple rep asked me to) and booted in recovery mode, and nothing occurred. I think of myself as being tech savvy, and I am confused as **** right now.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
KradWell, give this a shot:
1) Go to: http://www.cisco.com/cisco/software/release.html?mdfid=282414137&softwareid=2824 63166&release=2.0.5.3&relind=AVAILABLE&rellifecycle=&reltype=latest&i=rm
2) Download the 2.0.5.3 firmware
3) Open your access point's configuration page. I'm not sure what your gateway is, since I had to modify mine to match my network. The default should be 192.168.1.245, with the username as admin and password as admin. If you haven't changed any of the default settings, you'll have to connect through ethernet, as the AP doesn't allow you to configure over WiFi out of the box.
4) Click the administration tab, and you should see firmware upgrade under that.
5) Upload the new firmware file, and click upgrade. It takes a few minutes so just wait for the AP to restart on its own.
Hope this helps!
