2012 Virtual Machine Black Screens Whenever Promoting to Domain Controller

I have a brand new 2012 cluster with 2 hyper-v host nodes running Server 2012 (not R2). I have successfully spun up several virtual machines from templates via VMM 2012R2.
I added the AD DS role today to my DC01 server running server 2012 (not R2). Then I promoted it to a domain controller. When it came back up I got the login screen as normal and logged in. Upon login I only see a black screen. I can click ctr-alt-del and
get the typical menu, but only logout responds. Everything else such as Task Manager just goes back to the black screen. Connecting via remote eventvwr and checking logs and events shows the DC Promo was successful; I can verify replication to other DC's etc.
I don't see any problems with this server other than I can't see it after login. RDPing in provides the black screen as well. I am able to log in via safe mode and can see the desktop, but am not sure how to troubleshoot from there. I verified that integration
services were latest and greatest before I promo'd.
I de-promo'd it via server manager on another server 2012 server, then removed the roles and deleted it. I just created a new server and did the same process, only used a remote server manager for DCpromo this time. After reboot I have the identical issue
with a black screen.
Can anyone help?
Peter

Hi Peter,
Based on your description, the following thread also focused on this kind of issue and can be referred to for troubleshooting.

  • Upgrading System Center 2012 Virtual Machine Manager

    Hello!
I have an existing deployment of System Center 2012 Virtual Machine Manager. I want to upgrade directly to SCVMM 2012 R2 (skipping the SCVMM 2012 SP1).
    Is it possible?
If YES, then please provide the step-by-step upgrade roadmap.
I cannot find my desired upgrade on the link:

    Thank you very much.

    Hi
No you first need to upgrade to SP1 and then go to R2.

  • Windows Server 2012 Virtual Machine Failure

I am running Windows Server 2012 R2 Host machine.  In Hyper-V, I created a WS 2012 VM. The VM starts out OK, but after a few hours of work (configure and install SharePoint 2013), starts throwing errors (Machine had to re-boot). Eventually, the VM becomes
unstable and unable to re-boot. Last attempt threw this error in Hyper-V Event Manager:
'BISP2013' has encountered a fatal error.  The guest operating system reported that it failed with the following error codes: ErrorCode0: 0x7A, ErrorCode1: 0x400207A0, ErrorCode2: 0xC0000185, ErrorCode3: 0x57BA6860, ErrorCode4: 0x40F4234.  If the
problem persists, contact Product Support for the guest operating system.  (Virtual machine ID 7E140D89-25B9-4D3B-835B-7BB882C629BB)
This has happened on multiple attempts occasionally ending with Error 0Xc000021a.  Creating WS 2012 R2 VMs does not present this problem.
    Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

    Hi Mario,
This should not happen here .
My suggestion is to download a new server2012 ISO and reinstall .
Also please refer to following "best practice configurations for sharepoint 2013":

  • Error when creating a database on SQL Server 2012(Virtual Machine)

    Hi,
I create a virtual machine on VMWare Workstation 10, then install Windows 7(32bit), then install SQL Server 2012 Enterprise version.
Then I write a Visual C++2008 program and using ADO to connect to the local SQL Server, with the connection string below:
    “Provider=sqloledb;Data Source=(local);Integrated Security=SSPI;”
The connect succeed, then I try to create a new SQL Server database by calling:
    m_pConnection->Execute(_T(“create database MyDatabase on primary (name = ‘MyDatabase’, filename = ‘E:\\MyDatabase.mdf’)”), NULL, 0);
where E: is a USB drive plugged in.
When running the above statement, I can even see the MyDatabase.mdf file is being created, but finally get an error and error number is 80040e31 when checking the error from m_pConnection, after analyzing the com exception, we find it reports the error as
“IDispath error #3121”. Both errors seem to indicate a “Timeout error”.
Then I try to create the database on the local drive in the virtual machine, as follows:
    m_pConnection->Execute(_T(“create database MyDatabase on primary (name = ‘MyDatabase’, filename = ‘C:\\MyDatabase.mdf’)”), NULL, 0);
Then I get error number: 80040e14 from m_pConnection, and com error is “IDispath error #3092”
    What is the problem?
    Thanks

  • Firefox is freezing (going to a black screen) whenever I rotate a web page from portrait to landscape view on a stock Motorola Atrix on a stable wifi connection. How do I fix this?

I'm running a stock Atrix with Android 2.3 (gingerbread). Yesterday afternoon I noticed that Firefox was taking a good 30 seconds to open whenever I tapped the Firefox icon on my phone. It's also freezing/going to a black screen anytime I rotated from portrait to landscape by rotating my phone. When this happens, the phone itself doesn't freeze (other programs still work if I hit the home key), but it takes a couple manual on-off cycles of the screen to wake Firefox up. Is there something I can do to fix this annoying problem without installing and reinstalling Firefox?

I have also found that unchecking the "Use hardware acceleration when available" option solves this issue. This option is in the Advanced section, under the General tab.

  • Time Machine Black Screen Dual Monitors

I have an iMac 27 Retina with a 23 inch Cinema Display attached as an extended monitor (via thunderbolt)r,  I have an external backup drive attached via USB.  If I try to go into Time Machine to restore a file, Time Machine launches but gives me a black screen.  However, I were to disconnect the second monitor and then launch Time Machine, all is well.  Any ideas why connecting a second monitor would cause this problem?

This issue can be caused by a bug in the handling of multiple displays. Open the Mission Control pane in System Preferences and uncheck the box marked

  • Windows Server 2012 Standard - HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 Plus printer not working after promoting to Domain Controller / AD Services

An associate and myself installed the built-in drivers for the HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 Plus multi-function (network) printer on a Windows Server 2012 Standard server installation and everything worked fine whenever I want to print anything directly from the
Windows Server machine (there's a reason for this, so please understand that ;)  ).
We were able to print without any problems from the Windows Server 2012 machine, using the drivers from Microsoft.  Mainly, because HP has not listed any specific support for Windows Server 2012, only Windows Server 2008 R2, however, the drivers that
came with Windows 2012 seem to work very well.
PROBLEM: I later had to promote the Windows Server 2012 to a Domain Controller, and created the Active Directory configurations, even enabled the Print Services.  After doing all of that, the HP printer will not print anything.  It's like all print
requests directly from the Windows Server go to Nil.
Has anyone encountered a problem like this before? The only thing I can think of is that after perhaps something affected printing directly once we promoted the server to being a DC, and added other features / roles.  I even tried installing the
HP drivers for Windows Server 2008 R2, and the results are still the same...nothing prints.  Trust me, the printer is set as the Default Printer and even when choosing to print, we make sure the HP OfficeJet Pro is selected, and is on, as other Windows
Client PC's can print to it directly.
Does anyone have any suggestions we could try?  Thanks in advance.

While it is quite a while since this was posted - I can concur a similar issue exists.
We have spent the better part of a day trying to work out why other HP printers work fine but our 8620 prints are not printing and going to Nil.  The print server is hosted on a shared DC.  Comparing to the initial posters details, for some reason
it seems to be most commonly related to the OfficeJet Pro 8600/8610/8620/8630 series printers.
I ended up doing a print server migration from the domain controller to stand alone host and all printers now work from a single server rather than a mix.  Domain controller OSes varied from 2008, 2012, 2012 R2 (tested with multiple) and only after
all of those failed then tried a stand alone server os machine as a last resort which worked fine.  Printing directly from Win 7 / 8 /8.1 clients to the IP always worked.

  • My Brandnew 15 inch Macbook Pro (mid 2012) Crash to Black Screen

My Brandnew Macbook Pro (Mid-2012) just purchased last August 2012, i turned it on and watched some movie online and youtube when all of a sudden, the screen would turn black and the machine would not react to any keyboard or mouse input anymore. All I could do was hold down the power button to turn the computer off.
i really appreciate your ideas about this problem...

If it has happened more than once, make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store to have the machine tested.
Back up all data on the internal drive(s) before you hand over your computer to anyone. If privacy is a concern, erase the data partition(s) with the option to write zeros* (do this only if you have at least two complete, independent backups, and you know how to restore to bare metal from any of them.) Don’t erase the recovery partition, if present.
*An SSD doesn't need to be zeroed.

  • Windows Server 2012 as NTP Server for Windows Server 2008R2 Domain Controller

We have one domain with 3 Windows Server 2008R2 DC's. Our Edge router is configured to get the time from the internet, and was our timesource for the PDC emulator. But lately we have migrated our major routers to Cisco IOS15, and now the timeservice on the
PDCe is unable to fetch the time. This is a known bug, as you can read here:
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/ja-JP/b16de048-8642-4799-b85a-ad092e17dd47/windows-server-2012-ntp-version-compatibility
Now I've found out that Windows Server 2012 does sync with the router. That's our DirSync server, and is in the same VLAN as our DC's. So I thought: I'll set up the Windows Server 2012 as new timeserver, so our PDCe can sync with that server. (Compony
policy is that DC's don't talk to the internet). Everything seems alright.
    I've set:
    w32tm /config /manualpeerlist:<IP of router>,0x8 /syncfromflags:manual
    w32tm /config /reliable:yes
    Changed the registry with:
    HKLM\SYSTEM\CC\SERVICES\W32TIME\TIMEPROVIDERS\NTPSERVER - Enabled:1
    HKLM\SYSTEM\CC\SERVICES\W32TIME\Config - AnnounceFlags:A
And stopped and started the W32Time service. I can see that the Windows 2012 server is fetching the correct time, and checked with NBTSTAT -NA that it's listening on port 123.
But our PDCe doesn't sync. (also changed the config so it has the 2012 server as timesource). Get the EventID 47:
Time Provider NtpClient: No valid response has been received from manually configured peer <w2012server> after 8 attempts to contact it. This peer will be discarded as a time source and NtpClient will attempt to discover a new peer with this DNS
name. The error was: The peer is unreachable.
    What more can I try?

It only shows me the 3 DC's:
    DC04.domain.local *** PDC ***[[::1]:123]:
        ICMP: 0ms delay
        NTP: +0.0000000s offset from DC04.domain.local

  • Moving domain controller vm between Hyper-V 2012 R2 hosts

    Hello,
I have one stand alone Hyper-V host - hvserver01 (Hyper-V Server 2012 R2) and 3 VM's running on it. One Virtual machine is our company's additional Domain controller.
    I'm planning to install an additional hyper-v host - hvserver02 (Hyper-V Server 2012 R2) as well.
I have the following task to perform: I need to move domain controller virtual machine from hvserver01 to hvserver02.
So, for this operation which tool do i need - move, export/import or something else... ? or it will be necessary to install a new DC and then demote the old one.. ?
Is there a some special requirements when moving DC from one virtual host to another.. ?
And also, - MS Hyper-V Server 2012 R2 is installed on both Hyper-V hosts.
Do you have some advices ?
    Thanks in advance,

There's no difference between a VM acting as your DC and any other VM as far as live-migration is concerned.
You should use live-migration. The VM will remain up and running during the entire process. Both Hyper-V hosts should be domain members. They should have vSwitches with the same exact name. They should have same CPU type, or configure CPU compatibility on
the VM. Configure Live-migration setting on each host. You can use Hyper-V Manager for live-migration..

  • Can't create a Virtual Machine on new host - Error (2915)

This error is appearing when a Virtual Machine is created from scratch, or from a template. I've tried all of the recommendations I can find. All updates are in place, VMM reports agents are current, server is "OK". VMM Agent is running. Rebooted
    many times.
    Error (2915)
The Windows Remote Management (WS-Management) service cannot process the request. The object was not found on the server (xxxxxx).
WinRM: URL: [http://xxxxx:5985], Verb: [GET], Resource: [http://schemas.microsoft.com/wbem/wsman/1/wmi/root/virtualization/v2/Scvmm_EthernetSwitchPortInternalSettingData?InstanceID=Microsoft:Definition\1f59a509-a6ba-4aba-8504-b29d542d44bb\Default]
    Unknown error (0x80338000)
    Recommended Action
Ensure that the VMM agent is installed and running. If the error persists, restart the virtualization server (xxxxx) and then try the operation again.
This error can also happen due to an older version of the VMM agent on the virtualization server. Ensure that the VMM agent is upgraded to the latest version, and then try the operation again.
