  • 2012R2 Cluster "Protected Network" not working / no failover

    hi,
I have two 2012R2 hosts running in a cluster. Hardware is exactly the same. I created a Virtual Network on both Hyper-V managers. Live migration is correctly working.
However i was testing one of the new features "Protected Network" where the VM would failover to the other node when the virtual network fails. When i try it and disconnect the cables on the node where the VM is running i see it going to error
state but nothing happens (other then the VM being not available anymore). I've waited for hours but no failover.
    Am i missing something?

    Hi,
Network health detection and recovery is now available at the virtual machine level for a Hyper-V host cluster. If a network disconnection occurs on a protected virtual network, the cluster live migrates the affected virtual machines to a host where that
external virtual network is available. For this to occur there must be multiple network paths between cluster nodes.

Or please rerun the validation test then post the error and the warning part, that will quickly location the issue.

  • Best practice configuration for SQL 2014 to achieve HA when hosted on Hyper-V 2012R2 cluster

    Hi,
I've had a hunt around but so far I've not found a conclusive answer to my question.  I am currently moving from a SQL 2008R2 (physical tin) failover cluster to a virtual environment build on Hyper-V 2012R2.  I am building everything with SQL 2014
    SP1.
I want to achieve the same level of high availability that I currently have and at the same time make sure that I can replicate (DR) data offsite (Azure) in the future.  I have two options with SQL which are clustered instance (basically the same as
I have now) or AlwaysOn Availability Groups for database level HA.
I am unsure which is the best method to use when the SQL nodes are highly available guests on Hyper-V, trying to imagine how the guests will all move around in the case of a host server failure is a bit mind boggling to say the least.
I am leaning towards a instance failover but I would appreciate any input/advice etc.
    Thanks
    Rob

    Hi Rob,
To start with I will not be installing SQL Server 2014 with SP1, as SP1 has bugs and Microsoft has disabled its download. See reference: http://www.eweek.com/database/microsoft-halts-sql-server-2014-sp1-downloads.html
With regards, I would go for AlwaysOn Availability Groups configuration, because it has several benefits:
You will get same amount of high availability you normally get with native cluster configuration, if you use AlwaysOn configuration. However, AlwaysOn configuration provides more granular high availability, and fail-over are invisible to the application,
if you using Availability Group listener to connect to server.
You can offload read-only workloads to secondary replica.
You can perform transaction log backups on secondary replica.
Reduce production downtime during patching or other planned work on the server.
So in short, you should use AlwaysOn configuration.

  • Zone Cluster: Creating a logical host resource fails

    Hi All,
I am trybing to create a logical host resource with two logical addresses to be part of the resource, however, the command is failing. Here is what I run to create the resource:
    clrslh create -Z pgsql-production -g pgsql-rg -h pgprddb-prod,pgprddb-voip pgsql-halh-rs
And I am presented with this failure:
clrslh: specified hostname(s) cannot be hosted by any adapter on bfieprddb01
    clrslh: Hostname(s): pgprddb-prod pgprddb-voip
I have pgprddb-prod and pgprddb-voip defined in the /etc/hosts files on the 2 global cluster nodes and also within the two zones in the zone cluster.
I have also modified the zone cluster configuration as described in the following thread:
    http://forums.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=5420128
This is what I have done to the zone cluster:
    clzc configure pgsql-production
    clzc:pgsql-production> add net
    clzc:pgsql-production:net> set address=pgprddb-prod
    clzc:pgsql-production:net> end
    clzc:pgsql-production> add net
    clzc:pgsql-production:net> set address=pgprddb-voip
    clzc:pgsql-production:net> end
    clzc:pgsql-production> verify
    clzc:pgsql-production> commit
    clzc:pgsql-production> quit
Am I missing something here, help please :)
I did read a blog post mentioning that the logical host resource is not supported with exclusive-ip zones at the moment, but I have checked my configuration and I am running with ip-type=shared.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

I managed to fix the issue, I got the hint from the following thread:
    http://72.5.124.102/thread.jspa?threadID=5432115&tstart=15
Turns out that you can only define more than one logical host if they all reside on the same subnet. I therefor had to create 2 logical host resources for each subnet by doing the following in the global zone:
    clrslh create -g pgsql-rg -Z pgsql-production -h pgprddb-prod pgsql-halh-prod-rs
    clrslh create -g pgsql-rg -Z pgsql-production -h pgprddb-voip pgsql-halh-voip-rs
    Thanks for reading :)

  • SCOM 2012R2 Re-Create OperationsManagerDW (Data Warehouse DB)

Hi, I know it's daft, but the disk's that housed my DW (and stupidly it's backups) have gone POP!
I've replaced etc, but now I need to Re-Create the DW, I know this is not as easy as it used to be nowadays as it's created at install time, and there's no Executable to do it any more like there was in previous versions of SCOM.
So my Question is, how to do it, I've re-created the database itself, and even run the DataWarehouse.Initial.Setup.sql into it, however obviously all the fields that do the ID'ing etc are still blank and need to be populated (specifically stuff like the
    dbo.ManagmentGroup DB etc)
My question is, CAN this be re-done nowadays? and if so How?
    Thanks again.

  • Server 2012R2 Cluster Storage Error

January 2014 I built 4 servers into a cluster for Hyper-V base VDI using a SAN for central storage. I have had no issues with the running of the setup until recently when the 4th server decided to stop one of the vm host services and VMs became inaccessible.
When I was unable to find a solution I rebuild the server and after finding 50+ updates per server, ran windows update on them all. Ever since these 2 simple actions I have been unable to add the server back into the cluster correctly. The Validation wizard
    shows:
Failure issuing call to Persistent Reservation REGISTER AND IGNORE EXISTING on Test Disk 0 from node when the disk has no existing registration. It is expected to succeed. The requested resource is in use.
Test Disk 0 does not provide Persistent Reservations support for the mechanisms used by failover clusters. Some storage devices require specific firmware versions or settings to function properly with failover clusters. Please contact your storage administrator
or storage vendor to check the configuration of the storage to allow it to function properly with failover clusters.
The other 3 nodes are using the storage happily without issues. If I force the node into the cluster, it shows it as mounted and accessible but the moment I try to start a VM on that server, it loses the mount point and reports error 2051: [DCM] failed to
set mount point source path target path error 85.
The only difference between them is the model of the server - the 3 that work are HP ProLiant DL360 G7 and the one that doesn't is a HP ProLiant DL360p G8. They have worked together previously without issues though.
I am at a complete loss as to what to do. Any help would be gratefully appreciated.
    Thanks

    Hello the_travisty
The first thing to check in here is that you are using different hardware version for this node than the other nodes, even if at some point they could work together this configuration does not warranty that you are not going to have future issues.
Remember that the base on the Failover Cluster technology is that all the nodes should have the same characteristics since they are working together as only one computer, if the "clusterized" resources
are going to be moved among the nodes they have to work and react as any other node member of the cluster and provide all the elements (hardware/software/firmware/drives) in order to maintain the resource up and running as if they were not moved to other computer
    with different configuration.
    As per this error:
Please contact your storage administrator or storage
vendor to check the configuration of the storage to allow it to function properly with failover clusters.
This could point to a firmware/driver incompatibility, I think that maybe we have updates missing to be installed in the server or one update installed that have a different version of the system files installed on the nodes due the different version of hardware
is causing this issue. Also you can check with your storage vendor if there is a new release of drivers/firmware for your storage solution compatible with the OS version. This same question goes to your network adapter vendor.
Hope this info hekp you to reach your goal. :D

    Hi,
we are running a 6 Node 2012 R2 HyperV Cluster with two CSV Volumes hostet on an emc VNX5300 connected with FC. Everytime our DPM 2012 R2 is starting a backup of more than two vm machines the performance of the complete cluster is going down. The Server

  • Windows 2012 cluster, CLIUSR cannot be created, password does not meet security requirements

Trying to create a Windows 2012 cluster (Not R2). The cluster creation wizard goes through without problems. However, after a few minutes the cluster service dies with EventID 1556 and error code 2245 "The
password does not meet the password policy requirements. Check the minimum password length, password complexity and password history requirements." The error repeats every few minutes.
Looking at the cluster log, we find:
ERR   Workitem(Sweeper::Sweep)  callback threw exception: (2245)' because of '[CLI] Account Creation failure: 2245, 4294967295'
ERR   [CORE] Shutting down cluster service because of unhandled exception in a worker thread
It appears it is trying to create the local CLIUSR account, but the self-generated password does not meet complexity... The local password policy is the default deployed with Windows 2012 -
No unusual password requirement (8 characters with built-in complexity requirement)
I saw Elden's description of CLIUSR in
https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/95929983-a50c-42b3-a520-6a171e542948/win-server-2012-two-node-cluster-local-cliuser-issue?forum=winserverClustering - so I believe I understand what it is doing, but how can it not generate a password complex
enough? And I do not see any report of anyone having this issue, so I suspect a local configuration / issue.

    Hi FrankJB,
Please verify that the Cluster Service account has the appropriate user rights on each node of the cluster. The Cluster Service account must be
in the local administrators group and should have the rights listed below. These rights are given to the Cluster Service account during the
configuration of the Cluster node. It is possible that a higher level policy is over-writing the local policy or that an upgrade from a previous
operating system does not add all of the required rights.
If you can confirm your current account meet the cluster create conditions, please disable all your firewall then run the cluster validation and
post the warning and error information.

  • PreClusterCreationValidationFailure when trying to create a cluster through the Azure Powershell

I'm currently working on with Windows Azure in order to set up a cluster up and running, following the steps from
here. But when i tried to execute the command i got this error:
New-AzureHDInsightCluster : Unable to complete the cluster create operation left behind state: 'Error'. Message: 'PreClusterCreationValidationFailure'.
I had a look into the
this, but i was kinda confused with it. What does the input values mean in it? Is it the
ClusterSizeInNodes? and also could this error occur due to the same cluster name being already exist?
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Happy Coding!

    Hi,
Yes, you went through the correct link. 'PreClusterCreationValidationFailure' means there are errors in the user input values that is supplied while cluster creation. Input values can be:
    1. Cluster name (if the name is duplicate)
    2. Password (does not match the required password policy)
    3. Storage account location (the cluster region and the storage account region needs to be the same)
ClusterSizeInNodes should not be a problem unless you are providing a very huge number. You can try creating the cluster from the portal with the exact same details you are providing in your script. The portal will validate and highlight most of such validation
    errors.

how to create a cluster on existing table

    user8949393 wrote:
how to create a cluster on existing tableAFAIK you can't. You have to create the cluster from scratch, something like
--cluster key can be just one column also
    CREATE CLUSTER s_emp_dept_ic (deptno NUMBER(7), dname varchar2(30));
    CREATE TABLE emp(
      DEPTNO NUMBER(7),
      DNAME  VARCHAR2(30),
      EMPNO  NUMBER(4),
      ENAME  VARCHAR2(30)
--cluster clause puts table in cluster.  Deptno, dname are table columns in
    --cluster key
    CLUSTER s_emp_dept_ic (deptno,dname);
--a cluster index must be created before any data is inserted
--the index columns used come from the cluster key from CREATE CLUSTER
    CREATE INDEX s_emp_idx ON CLUSTER s_emp_dept_ic;

  • Issues creating VSA cluster "Unknown value" error

    Hi all,
I'm in the process of evaluating vSphere with VSA and running into an issue during creation of the VSA cluster. On the final step of creating the VSA cluster, I get an error message "Cannot create VSA cluster: Unknown value."
I'm setting up a two node cluster using a couple of HP ML310e Gen8's, using local storage and some extra networking via a quad-port NIC. Memory, CPU clock speed, and number of NICs is compliant with VSA requirements.
I've already double checked things like default gateway on the Management Network, naming of the various port groups to comply with what vSphere/VSA expects, specific NIC teaming requirements, and increased maximum heap size to 256 & set evc.config.baseline=highest in dev.properties as I've got a couple of VMs running on the two ESX servers (just Domain Controller and vCenter VMs).
Per the screenshots below, I've setup vSwitch0 and vSwitch1 as per VMware recommendations.
    On vSwitch0:
Management Network and VSA-Front End portgroups are using native VLAN (192.168.1.0/24).
VM Network is using VLAN 110 (192.168.110.0/24).
    vSwitch1 is fairly self-explanatory.
Only unique thing is that I've created 'vCenter VM VLAN' on vSwitch0 as a Virtual Machine portgroup so that I could assign this to the vCenter VM NIC as I don't have routing/ACLs in place between VM Network (VLAN 110) and Management Network (native VLAN).
Also, on ESX node # 2 I've got an issue with the physical NIC's associated with vmnic1 and vmnic3 (they seems to hang my Cisco switch each time I plug them in) so I've used the physical NIC's associated with vmnic4 and vmnic5 instead.
I've already searched the various VSA related threads but to no avail.
Hoping someone may be able to shed some light on this one.

  • Accessing Windows 2008 File Service Cluster with Windows 2012R2 File Services Cluster using same SAN

I am in the process on converting my existing Windows 2008 host servers (2 host cluster) to a Windows 2012 R2  (2 host cluster).
All 4 servers will be accessing the same SAN via ISCSI.
Currently the Windows 2008 host servers are running both File server roles and Hyper-V in clustered environment.
How can I transfer the File Server roles from 2008 to 2012R2 will still keeping access to the same SAN and LUNS?
    Thanks
    --Steven B.

You would have a short outage, but all it takes is to set up the 2012R2 cluster with the appropriate roles.  Then remove the LUNs from the 2008 cluster and present them to 2012R2 cluster.  You could initially build the 2012R2 cluster with just
its witness disk sitting on the iSCSI SAN, then move the other LUNs over at your leisure.

  • SOA Clustering - Create cluster after domain creation

    Hi all,
I can't manage to find out how to properly move a standalone soa server into a cluster created after the domain.
I would like to do the following :
    1. Create a domain without any cluster --> All soa server deployments target a unique managed server
    2. Create a cluster afterwards and associate the soa managed server to it
    3. update all targets of soa server deployments to target the cluster instead of the initial managed server
--> I'm looking for a solution to do step 3 in a clean and automated way (That's looks a bit strange and painful to open every deployment and change the target one by one)
    I run WLS 10.3.5
    Thanks for your help.
    Philippe

You can probably try by cloning the server1 to server2 and that way have everything from server1 to be replicated on server2. Once server2 is created, then create the cluster of soa servers and then update the deployments to be deployed on all the members of the cluster rather then individual servers. You can perform these steps from the weblogic console and record the setps to generate WLST script for the same. Once the scripts are created, you can tweak them up a bit to have automated script to perform the steps without human intervention.

  • Some error of COM when I launch Validated configuration before create cluster on hyper-v 2012 with SCVMM 2012 SP1

    Hi everybody,
I tried to created a cluster with 2 hyper-v Standalone 2012 ( with ISCSI connectivity for the SAN) with scvmm 2012 sp1.
After the validation testing I have 2 errors and I don't find the answer . I pasted the log at the bottom.
    Thanks for your help.

    Hi Guillaume Pincon,
Please first update both server to latest update and turn off the Windows firewall for narrow down this issue then try build the cluster again, one of the cluster create condition is all the servers should have the same software updates (patches) and service
packs. If all above steps not work please post the second validation error information.

  • Windows 2012 Failover Cluster

Having a problem creating 2 node cluster.  I launch FCM, begin the process of adding nodes.  Node 1 goes in fine.  Node 2 gives an error which is, "unable to connect to xxx.xxxx.com via WMI.  This may be due to networking issues
    or firewall configuration.
Node 1 and 2 are virtual.  Have tried them on the same metal and on different metal.
Any advice would be much appreciated.

    Hi shageman0304,
Unfortunately, the available information is not enough to have a clear view of the occurred behavior. Could you provide more information about your environment. For example,
the exact text of any error? When this problem occurs the system log record information, screenshots is the best information.
If you have install any third party software on this node please disable or exit them, please install the Recommended hotfixes and updates for Windows Server 2012-based failover
clusters updates then monitor this issue again.
Recommended hotfixes and updates for Windows Server 2012-based failover clusters
    http://support2.microsoft.com/kb/2784261
After install the updates, if the issue still exist please performing the following steps:
    1. Open Task Manager on the affected server and check if the wmiprvse.exe is running if not please enable the wmi service.
    2. Restart wmi service.
    3. Restart the server.
Please rerun the validation test then post the error part, that report will quickly locate the issue.
