2013 Design implementation-two sites
Hi!
I have a design implementation question. We are a small firm with 80 AD users, 100 mailboxes, DB store is 200 gigs and all on Exchange 2007 (Virtualized connecting to a SAN), but growing rapidly. Also, we currently have two sites in Chicago and New York(Exchange
2007 server in NY). We would like to upgrade from 2007(all roles installed on a VM server ESX 5.5 server) to 2013. Should we virtualized the Exchange 2013 or should they be physical servers? Also, since the servers will be in separate sites will I need a Load
Balancer in both location? Also, should I split up the roles since we have two locations running the both roles on both servers. For example below:
1 Chicago server-CAS/Mailbox Role
1 New York server-CAS/Mailbox Role
Should I have the Chicago users connect to the Chicago Server? And the New York users pointed to the New York Server? Currently everyone connects to the mail sever in NY. Any advice or comments would be appreciated.

Yes, if you need proxy or redirection settings on OWA and other Exchange web services, one CAS in each site is must.

Since you are posting the thread in SharePoint 2013 server forum, I assume you are using SharePoint server 2013.
I understand the option SharePoint 2013 platform disappears when you create a workflow in Designer, the issue might be caused by workflow manager. Please refer to the article below and check workflow configuration per the steps listed:

Sharepoint 2013 designer workflow custom sendemail activity
Does anybody know sharepoint 2013 designer workflow custom sendemail activity. Current OOB sendemail action from designer workflow cancels the entire workflow when sendemail fails.

What error did you meet when you used the OOB ‘Send Email’ action?
I suggest you fix the error rather than creating a new workflow ‘Send Email’ activity.
Of course, you can also customize a workflow activity to send email, there are two acticles about creating a custom workflow activity for your reference:

Update Managed Metadata field in SharePoint 2013 Designer Workflow for O365
Hi Guys,
I need to update the managed metadata field in SharePoint Custom List using Workflow but its not working. I have also tried to use the HTTP WebService POST Operation but no luck.
Am doing this for a SharePoint Online (O365) Site.
Has anyone worked on something similar and was able to get it running ?
I saw a post to create a custom Workflow Activity but I don't have a choice to go with the custom code option.

I was able to achieve this by creating a SP 2010 based Workflow for O365. Which means that it worked well with SP 2010.
Is there a different way to do it in 2013 ? I tried almost all options apart from creating custom Activity but nothing worked out.

According to your description, my understanding is that you want to update Managed Metadata field with SharePoint 2013 Designer for SharePoint Online.
As far as I know, there is not an OOB action to achieve your requirement with SharePoint 2013 Designer for SharePoint 2013. Customizing a workflow action is a better option to achieve it. Why didn’t you customize a workflow action as Patrick’s blog?

Hi,
We have a requirement to update a column value once the item has been approved.
Following settings have been made in the publishing articles list:
Require content approval for submitted items : yes
Create major and minor (draft) versions
Who should see draft items in this document library? :Only users who can edit items
Require documents to be checked out before they can be edited? : yes
I have createdatu a Sharepoint 2013 workflow to check if Approval sts of current item = 0 i.e. Approved , then check out and update the item and finally checkin the item. Everything works fine till this point except that the minor version of the item is
checked in. Due to this the updated columns are not published to others.
Also, I created a Sharepoint 2010 workflow to SET CONTENT APPROVAL = APPROVED and started this workflow from my list workflow above, but the item does not get checked-in and always shows "In Progress" status with comment "The item is currently
locked for editing. Waiting for item to be checked in or for the lock to be released.".
Please let me know where I am missing out so that once the item is approved, column value gets updated and current item is still in Approved status.

According to your post, my understanding is that you want to update Column value after current item is Approved and then publish major version using Sharepoint 2013 designer workflow.
You will get into this kind of Catch-22 situation trying to set the Content Approval Status in SharePoint Designer workflow:
- You must check out the document before you can change the Content Approval Status
- You can't change the Content Approval Status once the document in checked out
Since you set the Require documents to be checked out before they can be edited=Yes, you will need to check out the document when run the workflow on the item. But you cannot approve a document when it is checked
out. So the logic in workflow conflicts.
As a workaround, you can use the Start Another Workflow action to start the normal Approval workflow on the document. The built-in Approval workflow can work with a document that’s not checked out.
The designer approval workflow also can work with a document that’s not checked out.
You can create two workflow using SharePoint Designer 2013.
First, create a SharePoint 2010 platform workflow.
Then, create a SharePoint 2013 platform workflow.
Then when the SharePoint 2013 platform workflow start, it will start the SharePoint 2010 platform workflow to set content approval status, then the SharePoint 2013 platform workflow will update current item value.

Full Control
This permission level contains all permissions. Assigned to the Site name Owners SharePoint group, by default. This permission level cannot be customized or deleted.
Design
Can create lists and document libraries, edit pages and apply themes, borders, and style sheets in the Web site. Not assigned to any SharePoint group, by default.

SP 2013 Designer Workflow problems retrieving data from Web Service

The SharePoint 2013 Designer workflow works OK if I try to retrieve two items like "CompanyName" and "ContactName", but when I try to retrieve three or more items the workflow doesn’t work it just pauses
with no error message. The URL that works OK is shown below:

Redundant stateful CSS11501 between two sites
We have layer 2 connectivity between to core sites and are implementing two new CSS11501's. Is it possable to implement these in a active/backup configuration and stateful?
not statefullness.
To be statefull your setup needs a dedicated link between the 2 CSS - no extra hop or L2 switch.
You can give it a try but this is not a supported setup.
For active/backup this is no problem.

Personal Domain for two sites on Family Pack
Can you use two personal domains with iWeb if you are using a Family Pack/.mac?
I have a single .mac now for family and would like to upgrade to family pack and have a small portion for an upcoming home business with its own personal doman.
TIAI think you want something setup like I have right now - and it works. I have two sites on .mac using iWeb. The first main site is designated with a personal domain. The second has one, but I cannot use it because the whole .mac preference is for all the sites. So I went to my host name provider (domainit.com) and they offer one free "forward" for that personal domain - all I did was type in the site name where it should point to. Now, it wasnt the standard "web.mac.com" because my .mac is designated with a personal domain. For that second site it is mypersonaldomain.com/site. When I enter my domain for that second site, it says the namein the browser bar, but at the bottom of the browser you can see the original full path of mypersonaldomain.com/site.
So, you dont need to have another web host (web space/storage). You can have a primary personal domain working with .mac and then have the second personal domain point to (forward) the second site (that now is a sub of the first personal domain).

Second Exchange 2013 server in remote site
Just finished migrating from 2007 to 2013 and decommissioned 2007. Exchange 2013 is running in site A with 350 mailboxes on it. However, almost half of those users reside in site B so the plan is to introduce a second Exchange 2013 server to
this site and migrating mailboxes to it. There already exists a DC & GC in both sites.
My question is, immediately after I introduce Exchange 2013 into site B with CAS & MBX role, client computers from that site will start to receive certificate errors. Will updating the SCP on the new exchange server to point to the SCP on the exchange
server in site A be enough to mitigate that problem? What other precautions will I need to take? Has anybody been down this road?Hi
You can introduce the second exchange server in the remote site and also setup a DAG. If you are using the same name on your certificate like mail.domain.com then you can use the cert for your second server as well. You need to make sure you have autodiscover
records setup correctly.

Issue in sharepoint 2013 designer workflow kickoff
We are facing issues in sharepoint 2013 designer workflow kickoff. When we kick off custom designer workflow using AD user with contribute/approve access, sendemail from task does not send an email. When we kickoff using administrator account task in
the designer workflow sends an email. There seems to be multiple issues with kickoff. and it even does not give any error task gets created but send email does not work.
Another issue in another approach-
We are also not able to kickoff using one AD account which we are not login in everyday. If we kickoff using this account after 2/3 days kickoff says invalid state of object for that user. Once we login manually with that admin workflow kick off account
again kick off starts. We do not want to let current user kickoff the workflow.
In both cases we are using new AD import in sp2013 and sync is done every 5 minutes.
MCTS Sharepoint 2010, MCAD dotnet, MCPDEA, SharePoint LeadMay be a permission issue, see whether the contributor has enough permission to participate in the workflow.
Also try to set Design permission to test and see whether that works.

If your task is created by a workflow (first) and stored in a separate task list, you can create another workflow on this particular task list, then each workflow instance would check if current task is expired (not approved/rejected), then
determine if update current task's "Task Outcome" as approved (and update task status as complete), and then create a retention policy on this paricular task list to trigger the workflow on due date .

Using iWeb to publish to two sites separately
Here's my situation: I purchased a Family Pack .mac so I get 5 sites. I will use one for my own use, my wife will use one, and my son will use one.
We would like to use one of the two remaining accounts primarily to put up a website for a friend of ours who is working as a missionary in Africa.
So on my wife's computer, we want to use iWeb to build two sites, publish one in one .mac account and publish the other in another .mac account.
So far iWeb keeps publishing them in the same account.
Any ideas?The easiest thing for you to do would be to create a separate account on your wife's computer for this additional .Mac account that you wish to publish to. You can add this System account under System Preferences>Accounts. Then log into this account and add the additional .Mac information into the System Preferences there. Launch iWeb and create your page. When you publish, it will be published using the extra .Mac account.
This way...no juggling of Domain files. No switching back and forth of .Mac account information. Just log into the separate account to edit and publish this separate website on this .Mac account. Then your wife can log back into her own account to edit her own websites. Easy. -
Want to have two sites on .Mac made with iWeb
I have two folders on my iDisk in the Sites folder with different names. How do I get two different URL's for each website.
So with two folders each titled different can I use the folder names like

Just got iWeb the other day, I've been using DreamWeaver so I'm new to this simplicity. I'm used to working on Linux webserver too. My old URLs used to be www.name.com/index.html and so forth now this .mac subdomain is tricking me out

Internet Wiz™I think everyone will want to know how to do this. I am intested in working on more than two sites and publishing them not on a .Mac account.
What I have begun to do as a work-around is to label the sites by the domain name (xyz.com and abc.com) and then publish them to a separate iweb folder.
Of course the gotcha is that when you publish to an external folder you need to set the url - so each time you publish to a folder you need to set the url correctly for the domain you are working on.
Once published to the iweb folder you then upload the indvidiual files for the particular domain and you are set.
Too bad you can't work on mulitple sites, just highlight the site you want to publish to a folder and then have only that site published.
This is how I expected it to work.
