2013 Macbook Air 13" battery life not as good as advertised
At full charge, the estimated battery life read a little over 17 hours. At 97%, it now reads 15:39. Like I get this is vastly better than the older Macbook Air, but it still falls quite short of the 24 hours advertised on the website. Currently, it is still at 97% but now the estimated battery running time reads 14:59. Is this normal? I accidentally drained my battery twice since I bought it at the beginning of August, and I understand that's not good for the newer batteries - could this be the reason? My screen brightness is at 50% and I have no movies or music playing. Safari is the only ap I have open.
I'd appreciate any ideas or help with this problem (that is, if it is one).
I just looked at the estimated time again, and while it is still at 97%, the estimated remaining time is at 13:48. It's taken me a little over a minute to type this.
I'm not very tech-savy - is there something wrong with the way I understood the advertised battery life?
The Air is nowhere advertised for 24 hrs. batt. life......... in any configuration.

Improving the 2013 Macbook Air i7 battery life
Hi
I've checked couple of topics related to this issue seems many people suffer from this problem, i7 8gb ram with 512gb ssd Macbook air has some issues with its battery life it reduced very quickly. I've applied some techniques -like smc reset, deleting launch daemons and agents- and have an improvement in battery performance. Now the point is, when i do the EtreCheck there are many kernel extensions displayed in the report. Is there any way to delete them and slightly improve the battery life?
Here is the output:

Is there any other suggestions that you may offer ? Many thanksYou can use the new Activity Monitor to determine a unitless "Energy Impact" value:
You can also click the battery icon in your Mac's menu to reveal significant energy hogs (UPS is shown below):
Whereas Apple recently updated their apps to take advantage of Mavericks' energy saving algorithms, few other vendors have. I surmise the prominent "Energy Impact" hall of shame addition to the new Activity Monitor is Apple's subtle way of nudging them into compliance.
Google's plethora of invasive OS X system modifications is a popular reason for excessive battery drain. Google has yet to demonstrate the ability to develop efficient OS X apps, and one can only surmise they are not interested in doing so. If you elect to use Google Chrome or any other poorly implemented OS X programs, you must accept the detrimental effect they will have on performance and battery life.
If you no longer use a Blackberry, uninstall RIM's software. Be sure to follow its uninstallation instructions. -
HI All
This is my first post here. As mentioned I have a fall 2011 15"Macbook Pro fall 2011 with Core i7 2.0 GHZ, 8GB RAM and i was thinking of buying a 2013 Macbook Air 13". Is it a good upgrade? I do light video editing and day to day tasks like word processing, email etc.
How would the performance of the Macbook Air with the Core i5 with 4 gb Ram be compared to the old Macbook Pro 15 with Core i7 Quad 2.0 ghz with 8 GB Ram.
Thanks
SunnyThe main advantage would be a solid state drive. This will improve performance and speed moreso than RAM considerations. The disadvantage will be a loss of storage space. Moreover, one of the disadvantages of a SSD is that the more storage space used on it, the slower it becomes and the quicker it will deteroriate.
If you do video editing, I would take the GPU into consideration. Does your 15'' come with a discrete GPU? The integrated GPU on the MBA (intel HD 5000) is better than the 2011 MBP integrated GPU (3000), but it includes no discrete GPU.
Depending on how much storage space you use on your HDD currently + how many graphics intensive programs you run, you may want to consider upgrading your current machine with a SSD, upgrading your RAM on current machine to 16 gb (~160$ through macmemory or newegg), or purchasing a new Macbook Pro rather than Macbook Air.
Last thing I would add:
You will never be able to upgrade MBA RAM. It is soldered to the logicboard on the new models, non-retina included. You may wan to opt with the 8 GB RAM configuration. -
Macbook Air Terrible Battery Life
There are a series of threads on these forums regarding the rare case where Macbook Airs get terrible battery life on Mavericks, and some of them have numerous posts telling you to make a new thread about your specific issue. Here's mine.
The issues began when I did my initial Mavericks update. I had a series of really bad things happen, so I did a cmd+R reboot, and reinstalled the OS. It didn't help, so I scheduled a Genius appointment, and they wiped the drive and installed Mavericks clean.
All of the issues are gone now, except for one: my computer gets less than half the life it did on Mountain Lion. I used to get 14-16 hours of battery life on Mountain Lion when nothing was running. I just charged it to 100% and had just 6 hours of estimated life.
I've reset both the PRAM and the SMC, and neither helped. Might you have any further ideas on how to fix this?
Note: I know that Google Chrome is less energy efficient than other browsers. With that said, I used to still get well over 10 hours at 98-100% battery life on Mountain Lion with Chrome open. My usage of Google Chrome is a constant in this equation; this issue can't be so easily dismissed as being an issue with Chrome, I think.
Here's a screenshot showing a number of things (no apps being open, the poor battery life, and activity monitor)

Mid-2013 Macbook Air drains battery at hibernate
I recently got a new Macbook Air:
MBA 13-inch, Mid 2013
Processor 1.7 GHz Intel Core i7
Memory 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
Graphics Intel HD Graphics 5000 1024 MB
Software OS X 10.8.4 (12E3067)
The issue I'm running into is essentially that I close the lid (unplugged from power and anything else) and overnight the entire battery drains. When looking into the system log, I noticed that the sleep seems to run OK but it's when it tries to hibernate that the issue comes up. It looks to me like it tries to hibernate and runs into an error, tries again, run into an erro, tries again, etc.

This all seems to loop until the battery drains completely. Any Thoughts?I have the exact same problem. I just installed Mavericks three days ago and I'm having battery drain when the lid is closed.
Does anybody have a solution for this problem ?

I have a mid-2012 Macbook air and I've noticed recently my battery life is horrible. I've read every single other thread about this issue but nothing really helped and even the most recent is from a couple of years ago. Obviously now it's 2015 and my macbook is running on Yosemite, so its not the battery issue that everyone seemed to have with Mavericks.
Just writing that small section I went from 73% to 68% and at the current 68% I only get an estimated 2 hours and 10 minutes remaining. I've also had only Safari running this whole time.
Option clicking the battery icon reveals that the condition is normal, as well as the power system report. It also has gone through only 441 cycles, no where near its 1000 cycle "limit" and its health is already down to 77%. While obviously the condition is normal and doesn't say I need to replace the battery I feel that I should, based off of everything else.Have macbook air from mid 2012 - I installed Yosemite November 2014 and since then I'm having problem with my battery - it has been draining super fast - 4hrs battery life now compared to earlier 8hrs.
I reinstalled Yosemite, didn’t help and then made a clean reinstallation of Yosemite about 5 days ago and there is still the same drain issue.
Thank you in advance!
Here is the Etre Check Report:

Dropped mid 2013 macbook air keyboard and trackpad not responding
My laptop slid off of my desk and onto the floor earlier this week. After checking to see if everything was okay- it was not!
My trackpad and keyboard are now unresponsive.
Macbook keeps searching for an external keyboard/ mouse.
Some reviews say to remove the back case of the laptop and make sure everything is plugged in. Other reviews say to reset SMC and NVRAM. I am currently backing everything up , but which route is best for a dropped laptop?
thanks in advance!Take it to an Apple Store or Authorized Apple Service Center to see if it is salvageable. Sounds like it's very likely not salvageable.
Hopefully you have a good backup, created before this catastrophe. -
Late 2011 macbook pro 13" battery life not good
I can leave my laptop plugged in all night turned off, and in the morning it only has 99% battery. It seems to quickly discharge. After about an hour an a half, I am down to 50%. I bought this computer in October. I has intel core i7 with 4GB 1333 MHz DDR3 memory. This does not seem normal. If it is in sleep mode, the battery will drain over night if not plugged in. That also does not seem right. I appreciate any help.

AC Charger Information:

Charging: NoIf the battery drains completely overnight when not plugged in, the machine is either not going to sleep at all or not staying asleep. That is not normal, and you need to figure out which is true and what's preventing the machine from sleeping. When the sleep light pulses, the machine is asleep. When the sleep light is on steadily, not pulsing, the display is asleep, but the computer is not. Before leaving the machine for the night tonight, make sure the sleep light is pulsing. Then note the light's status in the morning before you wake the computer. Post back with your findings.
An overnight drain from full to 99% while shut down is normal, because once the battery is fully charged, charging stops, and does not resume until the battery has gradually drained to below 95%. Whenever a battery isn't being charged, it is slowly losing its charge, even if nothing is connected to it at all. This is a fundamental property of batteries.
Battery runtime while the computer is in use depends entirely on what the computer is doing and on your user settings. The maximum battery-powered running times advertised by Apple can only be achieved if the machine is doing almost nothing and all energy-saving settings are maximized. To maximize running time on a charge, do all of the following:
Dim the screen as far as you can stand
Turn off keyboard backlighting
Turn off BlueTooth
Turn off Airport when it's not in use
Make sure you aren't using the discrete GPU, if your MBP has one
Disconnect all bus-powered peripheral devices: portable hard drives, iPhones, iPods, iPads, USB mice, USB trackpads and keyboards, graphics tablets, cameras, etc., etc.
Quit all applications that aren't in active use
Close all application windows and tabs that aren't in active use
When using wifi, avoid web sites that have Flash content, including advertisements
Don't use the optical drive
Don't stream multimedia content form the Web
If you can take all these steps and still get anything useful done, you may be able to get close to Apple's maximum running time estimate for your machine. In practice, very few of us can accomplish anything under these conditions, so we don't expect anything like maximum running time on a charge. -

Mid-2013 Macbook Air Battery Life has become awful-Not Mavericks related
I have a Mid-2013 Macbook Air that I bought in July. i5, 1.3 GHz, 8GB RAM, 500 GB SSD. I honestly thought that my horrible battery life was due to the recent upgrade to Mavericks (many MBAir users are having problems with 10.9), so I downgraded to 10.8.5 this AM. With my backlit keyboard off and the screen at a mid-level of brightness, I am barely getting 2hrs of battery life. Before I go make an appointment with the Apple Genius, I was wondering whether anyone has any suggestions. I saw other threads on this issue, but none of them seem to really help. Below is the EtreCheck file (there seems to be a lot of Symantec traffic, but I am not sure that is the cause). Also, I am also running "hidden" so I wonder if the constant location services are draining the battery. Again, any help would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks.

After Mavericks install, your "time remaining" WILL BE INACCURATE until you do a SMC reset in many case
SMC reset
Shut down the computer.
Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
There is a HUGE distinction here about someone getting less batt. life in actuality .......or are they just reading the "time remaining" and using that as a true indicator which is certainly is not.
Ive seen 3 notebooks after SMC reset jump 4+ hours in "time remaining" and slowly climb after 3+ full charge cycles.
Until things settle down, nobody should trust what the 'time remaining' says. -

New Mid-2013 macbook air BATTERY LIFE decreasing fast?
Hi,
I just bought a new Macbook Air 13" 256GB , 4GB RAM. I'm worried about my battery life. With only 2 hours of just surfing the net and on 50% brightness, my battery life dropped to 60%. So every 30 minutes, it drops by 10%. I also found that my computer usage is 95% idle so how can my battery life waste so quickly??
my battery health is 100%. Is that even normal for a Macbook Air that is only 5 days old?
Thank you!

Massive Battery Drain After Mavericks Upgrade on 11" 2013 MacBook Air?
I got my Air about month before Mavericks came out and the battery life was amazing on it. I was easily getting 14-10 hours of life using Chrome and Air Mail App, along with Power Point and MS Word. After the upgrade to Mavericks, it was slow but I started to notice that my battery life during classes was draining so much faster than before and I had not added anything 3rd party software, just the upgrade. I am now down to about 3.5 - 4.5 hours of battery life doing about the same things as before the upgrade. I did a couple of apps and I added (Sims 3 game). However, I have yet to touch it because of the diminished battery life.
I have included a copy of my Etrecheck, can somone take a look and let me know if you think I need to clean something off?
I did do the SMC reset and that seemed to to give a little juice (like putting new tire on your car but still not where it was before the Mavericks upgrade) as I am up to about 6 hours of battery life after the SMC reset.
Please let me know what other information you might need from me that would help and thank you so much!!

Not sure why but I had a hard time finding all of the related files to get rid of Origin. But I think I finally got them. I just uninstalled Flash and Chrome. I don't like Safari but all well. I suppose I can deal with it it until Apple fixes this battery issue and then maybe I can go back to Chrome. Safari isn't too happy with certain websites, under the Preferences/Security there is an error message that reads "Google Safe Browsing Service Is Not Available. Has not been updated in 8 days."
Haven't noticed a change in battery since doing all of this so let me know if it will take a couple of days to reset. Or if you see anything else that I can do to help. Thank!

I would appreciate any help on how to increase my battery life. Thanks in advance!Lowest power consumption for youtube viewing is Safari.
Yes, I know about all the nice Java script extensions (ala Greasemonkey) and addons that are lacking in Safari.
However Firefox has both Safari and Chrome beat by a 100 miles in the extension and addon dept. , ....additionally the "eyeball" of Google/Chrome is subjectively not preferred by myself in web use.
Give Safari a go for a few hours and you should notice a drastic change in power consumption.
Also go to Activity monitor > ENERGY tab to see the use difference between the two and other running APPS.

Can I get rid of Lion and go back to the previous operating system? I bought Apple because it was simple. I went from loving my Mac to absolutely hating it.
