2013 macbook pro & karaoke

I have a 2013 macbook pro running 10.9.4. I have an hdmi cable hooked to my tv receiver which has surround sound. I found that there are Karaoke apps now (I used to have a machine) and would like to know if it is possible to use my macbook pro to do Karaoke through my tv/stereo system. I would also like to use wireless mics. Is this possible to accomplish, and if so, can anyone recommend what I need to use and do to accomplish this.
Thanks

Try repairing the startup disk via Disk Utility. If necessary, boot to Recovery to do the repair

Next, after it happens not the time. Then upon reboot, open the Console app in Applications>Utilities and look for suspicious log entries at that time. Post them here.

Actually you need a Thunderbolt to HDMI adapter. It will carry both audio and video.

  • How do I connect a 2013 Macbook Pro Retina to an Epson Power Lite 61p LCD Projector?

I am trying to attach an Epson PowerLite 61p LCD Projector to my 2013 Macbook Pro Retina, but I cannot find which type of adapter I need. I would assume whichever adapter is required it must connect via thunderbolt. However, I do not know if the required adapter is a "Mini Display Port to VGA Adapter," "Apple Mini DVI to VGA Adapter," or a "Thunderbolt to VGA Adapter." I would deeply appreciate your help and guidance. Thanks!

It does not matter whether you get an Apple adapter or a third pary one.  What you have there is a Mini Displayport to VGA adapter, but as you know, your new MacBook no longer has an MDP port!
Thunderbolt to VGA adapters do not exist but there are plenty of HDMI to VGA adapters out there:

  • Is there a way to digitize audio using the headphone input on the 15-inch (late 2013) Macbook Pro with Retina display?

I'd like to digitize audio from a minidisc player into my 15-inch (late 2013) Macbook Pro with retina display, but can't see a way to change the internal mic input.  I understand that previous MacBooks allowed the headphone jack to double as a mic input, but mine doesn't seem capable of switching.  I've tried using a mini to mini cable, with no luck, and also tried using a headset splitter adapter (3.5 mm 4-pin to 2x3-pin 3.5 mm headset splitter adapter from Amazon) because I read that that would allow me to plug in headphones and input audio.  But in both cases, the only "input" available in my sound preferences is the built-in internal microphone.  Am I missing something?  Is there a way to digitize audio through the headphone jack?

Not likely. headphone jacks are usually output only devices unless specifically stated to support input, and even then, it may not be audio input that they support, but merely control input for volume and such.
You can get a USB audio input instead. i.e:

  • Early 2013 Macbook Pro Retina 2.7 i7 512GB SSD and 16gb Ram with Serious Cuda Problems! Trying to teach Apple their Macbook Pro Retina isn't a Pro Jan. 11. 2015.

Apple replaced the logic board, wiped the computer, did a fresh instal of the OS, and also a fresh instal of all the programs during the beginning of 2015. The GeekBench scores are the highest of any of the similar computers (at least on the day of my testing). But here's what's happening. The Macbook Pro Retina has a GeForce GT 650m with Cuda Technology and it can't handle editing in Premiere Pro with Cuda Acceleration turned on. Open CL, a second form of graphic acceleration on the Macbook Pro, appears to be functioning properly.
At the Apple Store on 1-10-2015, I was told that since the logic board and the graphic cards have been replaced that there is nothing they can do and they recommend contacting Corporate. This comes after they told me to buy a new logic board and that that would solve the problem. This comes after Apple did not listen, for over a month, about the possibility that they didn't properly build a professional notebook computer.
The computer displays a black program monitor screen, at random times, when the user edits footage with Cuda Acceleration enabled. It used to lead to an entire system crash and/or a Premiere Pro crash before the operating system was completely re-installed. My solution, since I bought the computer, was to edit in Open CL... However, I've come to learn that there is a major difference in performance between Open CL and Cuda Acceleration.
For the Macbook Pro Retina, Adobe Media Encoder render times are about 20% faster with Cuda Acceleration than Open CL. The 2013 Macbook Pro Retina appears to be able to handle Cuda Acceleration in Media Encoder, but I have had a number of issues leading to program crashes on every project before the new logic board and operating system were installed. For over a year and a half, I actually never used Cuda Acceleration. Having sent every crash report and user data to Apple over that time, I truly expected an update of some sorts and it never came.
FYI: The latest Macbook Pro Retina uses the GeForce GT 750m... This is essentially the same graphic card that performs about 10 - 20% faster due to a new "boost mode." More importantly, it actually has the exact same number of Cuda cores. Having the same number of Cuda Cores means that the Cuda Acceleration is essentially the same when exporting or viewing video. To prove a point to Apple that their 2013 Macbook Pro Retina isn't functioning properly, I bought the latest computer with the 2.5 i7, 16gb Ram, 512gb SSD and I can honestly say that the 2014 model works perfectly fine with Cuda Acceleration turned on while editing in Premiere. I can also say that a proper render test proved the 2013 and 2014 model to be the exact same.
I'm new to this whole pay $2700 for a computer that your manufacturer didn't / can't test properly, so I will be contacting Apple and speaking with Senior Advisors, their Customer Support division, and will soon speak with their Corporate branch. I'm confident that the Early 2013 Macbook Pro Retina with a 2.7 i7 16gb Ram and a 512 SSD is nearly the same at rendering video and editing video, provided the Cuda Acceleration works, as their latest 2014 Macbook Pro Retina with the 2.5 i7 processor 16gb Ram, and a 512 SSD. It's truly a great computer and a great build, minus their current inability to properly test / diagnose their computer.
Knowing that the latest graphic card in the Macbook Pro lineup is essentially the same model, I feel that Apple is not directly looking into the viability and life span of their current Macbook Pro Retina product line. They can't test for performance issues relating to their graphic cards, so why consider buying from them when the end user is actually in a position to experience up to a 20% decrease in certain professional programs.
For future reference, I'd strongly urge other individuals to avoid purchasing Apple products if they offer Cuda Technology. In my opinion, Apple is an Open CL organization, at best, who is not responsibly manufacturing / producing computers that fit their organization's strengths. For a fact, they can't test their Cuda Technology and won't even attempt to address Cuda Acceleration errors for Apple owners (01-11-2015). I say this having walked out of the Apple Store on 1-10-2015 with virtually no support other than to contact Corporate.

  • No airplay or mirroring on 2013 Macbook Pro Retina

After searching forums and the web for days I still have not found an answer so here by an independent post:
My MBP Retina shows no airplay icon and devices not available under Preferences>Display
When trying to connect Apple tv to iTunes library, it tries to load it and shows the name of my iTunes library but after one minute, error message: ‘Could not connect to iTunes Library’. Find it strange that Apple tv can find the name of my iTunes Library but can’t connect to it. Same goes for iPhone and iPad when trying to connect through Remote to MBP iTunes.
iPhone and iPad connects perfectly to Apple tv with airplay, however they are not able to connect to my MBP Retina and iTunes over wifi, only via USB.
    Have…:
2013 Macbook Pro Retina with ML, latest update
    Apple TV3, latest OS
    iPhone5, latest iOS
    iPad2, latest iOS
Have turned on Home Sharing in iTunes with same ID and all devices connected to same wifi
Have followed Troubleshooting Home Sharing but with no result
Have tried switching off Firewall on MBP but with no result
Have tried connecting Apple tv via cable to router, no result
Have uninstalled antivirus programs but with no result
Have rebooted, MBP, router, apple tv but with no result
Anyone who can help? Or have an idea on how to test if I have some kind of programme blocking incoming signals on my MBP?
    Many thanks!!!

Thank you for your suggestion regarding partitioning my old MacBook for OS10.5. I like that idea and I'll give it a try. Can't I just use my Time Machine for a back up or should I use SuperDuper to make a clone? I'll have to buy a new drive to make a clone as my external drive is pretty full with Time Machine backups. Should I use Disk Utility to partition my drive as recommended by Neil?

  • How do I install a purchased CD of Adobe Creative suite onto a new 2013 Macbook Pro?

    Dear Apple Community,
I recently purchased a 2013 Macbook Pro, and I was not aware that it was going to be difficult reinstalling Adobe Creative Suite 5.5 onto this computer, since the Suite is from a CD I purchased a little over a year ago. I would like to know how I can reinstall the adobe creative suite 5.5 onto this laptop which doesn't have a CD slot built into it? Is there a way I can contact adobe and just download the suite and provide my serial number without having to purchase. Keep in mind, I'm a student. How do I get adobe on this laptop?
    Thanks!

Most Adobe products are identical between downloaded and physical media, requring their registration keys to enable them.
You can try downloading a trial version from Adobe, if available, or here and then you would authorize it with your serial number.
If you need to install it from disc, you can simply purchase the Apple external USB SuperDrive or try to find someone that has one.

  • How to install system on late 2013 macbook pro retina ?

    Hmmm .... I need help.
I deployed a 10.9.1 from a new MBA image to the new 15" MBPr .... not a good idea. It won't boot because of the special build that the late 2013 requires.
So the original recovery HD is gone, so can't go that route. Now I need help badly. How to get the darn thing to bootup .... or how to start over ?
    BR Martin

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Your Late 2013 MacBook Pro comes with Internet Recovery, which can be used without needing a Recovery partition. To start up in Internet Recovery, hold Command, Option (Alt) and R keys while your Mac is starting, and reinstall OS X. You will get OS X 10.9.1, and the Mavericks installer will create the OS X Recovery partition.
Your MacBook Pro requires a special OS X 10.9.1 build that is not available for any other Mac, and you cannot install the "normal" OS X 10.9.1 version on your MacBook Pro. Apple will fix this in a future update, when your MacBook Pro and all other Macs use the same OS X build.

  • Late 2013 Macbook Pro Retina 15' will not boot an external disk from a Mid-2012 MAcbook Pro. What should I do?

In order to simplify moving all my files from the previous mid-2012 macbook pro 15' when moving to my new late-2013 macbook pro, i superdup-ed the full hard-disk to an external ssd. Unfortunatelly the new mac resuses to boot from this external disk (i get the grey disk with a line over it). The external disk works just fine so if I boot the new mac from its internal SSD I can read/write the external disk without problems.
Old OS X is 10.9 as is the OS on the new mac.
What I need to do is to boot the new mac from the external ssd, use the same superduper to copy the external content onto the internal ssd.
How can I solve this issue?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
If you made a backup of your files with SuperDuper, use Migration Assistant (in /Applications/Utilities) to transfer your files from the external drive > http://pondini.org/OSX/MigrateLion.html It will create a new user account with the transferred files, so you may want to merge both user accounts > https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-5472
The Late 2013 MacBook Pro uses a special OS X Mavericks version which makes OS X compatible with it, and older OS X versions do not work with it. That's the reason why you cannot start up from the external drive created from the Mid 2012 MacBook Pro

  • 2013 Macbook Pro 15" Retina Display Trackpad issues

Hello everyone, ive been googling everywere to fix this problem, but everytime i plug in my iPhone or my iPad or leave my mac alone for a couple minutes and come back (no screensaver or anything) the touch pad doesnt respond unless i keep tapping it rapidly...when i searched on google for this issues, its all for the mid-2012 models...I checked in >>About Mac and it says "Early 2013 Macbook Pro Retina 15" I bought this computer brandnew from apple last week and its in PERFECT CONDITION and no drops or falls. This issue is very annoying since I'm a developer and always plugging in my devices to my Macbook...any ideas or same issues?

The warranty entitles you to complimentary phone support for the first 90 days of ownership. If you bought the product in the U.S. directly from Apple (not from a reseller), you also have 14 days from the date of delivery in which to  exchange or return it for a refund. In other countries, the return policy may be different.

Use the MagSafe to MagSafe 2 Converter > http://store.apple.com/us/product/MD504ZM/A/magsafe-to-magsafe-2-converter?fnode =51 However, note that the MacBook Air doesn't provide enough energy to charge the MacBook Pro with Retina display, so it could not work

  • Migrating a 2009 mini to a 2013 macbook pro

I want to migrate my licensed applications from a 2009 mac mini to my new 2013 macbook pro. What is the best method? firewire 800 to ethernet, or firewire 800 to thunderbolt? Or should I just manually reinstall all of these applications from scratch? I cannot update all of the application before the migration as Apple suggests beacuse the OS would need updating, which I am not interested in doing. The applications are; Native Instruments Komplete 8, Max/Msp 6, Chromaphone, Digital Performer, Motu's Ethno, Adobe CS6.

If I were you I'd do a clean install of Mavericks and then install your (updated) applications from scratch. Rather than migrating applications over to your Mavericks installation that are incompatible, and then trying to install updated versions over the old versions. I think that's probably going to create some problems.  You're going to have to upgrade some of those apps anyway, so it would probably be less work to just do it from scratch.

  • Help! My Canon MG5520 printer is apparently not connected to my late 2013 MacBook Pro!

Help! My Canon MG5520 printer is apparently not connected to my late 2013 MacBook Pro! I have had this printer a few months and everything has been working fine until today. I did I have to turn my wifi router on and off this morning, so I think that might be it. I'm not extremely tech savy, so if anyone could lend a hand, I would appreciate it!! I've tried unplugging it, turning it on and off again, quitting it my from laptop, nothing works. Do I need to reconnect it to the wifi? How do I do this? I turns on fine and doesn't give my any error messages, it'st just my laptop that says it isn't connected. Sorry if this is a stupid question.

Thanks for providing complete information.  It seems like you've ruled out faulty docking cable, bad USB port, and software issue on the new Mac.  And since the shuffle still works fine on the older Mac, it's not a problem on the shuffle.
    Some things to try...
Connect the MacBook to its power adapter, so that it's not running the battery power.  If any other USB devices are connected, try connecting the shuffle as the only device, to a direct USB port on the MacBook.
If you can keep it connected for long enough, go to the shuffle's Settings screen in iTunes and set it to Enable disk use (and Apply).  This will keep the shuffle's disk mounted continuously, instead of iTunes unmounting the shuffle's disk when not syncing.
If you happen to have an old USB 2.0 hub that has its own power supply, connect the shuffle through the hub to see if that make any difference.  The new Macs have USB 3.0, so if that's the cause, maybe a USB 2.0 hub in between can act as a "buffer" and make it work.
