2013 MBP Mavericks/Bootcamp USB Hang
I have a Late 2013 MacBook Pro 15", 16gb, discrete graphics, etc. Of course I am running fully patched (as of today) OS X Mavericks, and I am also running boot camp with Windows 8.1.
During the POST the machine hangs if I have my USB hub connected. By "hang" I mean that the screen is just gray, the Apple logo never appears, and it can sit there as long as I let it, but it will never boot to either partition. If I remove the USB, allow it to get past POST and boot to either OS, then reconnect the USB hub, it recognizes it and all devices and we're off to the races. Devices connected include a keyboard, mouse, camera and printer. I've tried removing various ones to see if it changes, but it doesn't.... it will only boot if the USB aren't connected at all. I now welcome any thoughts and questions you may have on this issue.

If you have your /Home/Music/iTunes/ folder backed up with Time Machine, then you can restore the folder to the new computer using the Time Machine application.

I have a 2008 Macbook Pro w/ OSX 10.8.5 Mountain Lion. I ordered a late 2013 Macbook Pro 15"
I purchased a 2TB external hard drive. I am thinking to not use time machine, but instead, start from "scratch" with the new MBP. That is, backup my files and software install files to the external drive. Then, when I get the new MBP, install the s/w and copy the files I would want on it (not everything as the current MBP drive I have is 1TB and the new MBP will have the 512GB SSD)
Then, when I have the new MBP setup, I could start using Time Machine etc.. and sell my old MPB
I wanted to get feedback on this, is this a bad idea to start from scratch? I figured it might be easier since I dont have Mavericks now, and starting from scratch would be less headache since the new MBP has mavericks already, and it will be a smaller HD, and I have read about issues people have with s/w not working when migrating or upgrading to Mavericks.
I dont use ITunes, just have a lot of folders of MP3s. I do use IMovie, and read, that you can copy your movie folders/projects over to an external hard drive and save them there, and whichever ones I might want on the new MPB, I could copy over.
I also use VirtualBox, but I figure, it would be better to copy the Virtual Image files over and install VirtualBox from scratch as well.
I also code (python, java), but it is not an intricate development environment that I have setup.
ThanksI too am a fan of it. That said, i just did two plain old upgrades from 10.6.8 on advice from people here. Both worked just fine.
If you clean install, i would first make a regular, old-fashioned bootable clone. My preferred method is Carbon Copy Cloner ($40). Then you have a) a way to go backwards in a pinch, b) a complete backup, and c) a way to get access to the individual files and move them over.
test that your machine boots from the external drive.
Beware, some od the file locations (mail is prominent) have moved. You may have some challenges there.
Your "home" library folder is also now hidden, you can un-hide it by "go" finder menu, hold own option, and select Library (magic).
If you dont have locally stored mail folders it might be easier to just let IMAP rebuild.

2013 MBP 2.5 i5 4Gig 500MBHDD boots slow. It finishes post in the same time as an identical MBP, and then hangs for 30 seconds on one of the ethernet adapters, before finishing the boot. Once booted it is normal. Turning off airport changes nothing. Hardline adapter is not plugged in. Thunderbolt adapter is not used. Bluetooth is off. Did this out of box. Identical MBP boots to login screen in 36 seconds. Disk repair, permission repair, and safe mode boot have
already been done, no change. Boot time is consistent. Hangs at the same place each time. Right after post. Bad adapter?

in verbose boot.
Consistently, following good post, the boot hung
for 30 seconds on the adapters, (cards, chips, NICs.
Ethernet cards, whatever you prefer to call them)
either the airport card or the hard line. It would then
proceed at normal pace to the login screen.
Since it came out of the box that way, software
conflict was not a go. I guessed glitched driver or
fetch instruction. I zapped the PRAM (cleared
NVRAM) and reloaded the OS, updates, Garage Band,
iPhoto (one of Apple's true dogs in an otherwise
rare arena) iMovie, Photoshop, Lightroom, their
updates, and my files. MBP pro now boots to login
in 31 seconds. Note I have turned off as much gee
whiz, rubber band scroll, global swiping and other
hubcaps and hood ornaments as befits how like
things ... and turned off all the Asian and other fonts
I will. ever use.
Best guess ... corrupt driver or corrupt fetch script ...
bad server squirt at factory load.

Late 2013 MBP "Boot Camp x64 is unsupported on this computer model"
Hey yall, some help would be fantastic.
Got my brand new Late 2013 MBP (top end model with the Nvidia GeForce GT 750M) on Thursday and had no problems getting it set up. Having gotten the OSX side all set up, last night I Bootcamped it. The new Bootcamp Assistant did a great job of loading my Windows 7 ISO onto one Flash drive and Bootcamp Assistant 5.0.5433 on the other Flash drive.
Had no problems during installation but the Bootcamp Support Tools didn't install, so I went to install it (attempted to run the setup file) and received this error:
Uh oh.
Using the internet (on my iPad) I was able to learn of a workaround to call the installation by negotiating to "Bootcamp\Drivers\Apple\" and executing the Bootcamp.msi as admin. It appeared to install everything.
However, when I went to change the resolution, I noticed that Windows was using a generic driver and that my max resolution was 1600x1200.
If I could launch a game w/out it immediately crashing, I would have chalked it up to Windows being Windows, but they did and I started digging (assuming that it was an application issue). Tried installing drivers downloaded from Nvidia's website for the 750M but they failed to find applicable hardware. Now concerned, I validated that I had received the correct version of MBP.
Eventually used a tool from M$'s website to remove the Bootcamp Support Software and then downloaded Bootcamp Support Software version 5.0.5033, where I ran into the exact same issue. Perhaps related, perhaps not, but the wireless on the Windows side takes a long time to connect and appears unreliable/periodically slow. That suggests that the wireless drivers weren't installed correctly either.
I have no problem reinstalling Windows, but I'm not convinced that its the problem. The initial error message suggests to me that the Bootcamp Support Software isn't recognizing my MBP. Any thoughts?

it took me finally 4 days to setup Windows 7 via bootcamp. The drivers that are downloaded via bootcamp do not work when installing from a flash drive. Here is what I did to fix the issue with "CD/DVD driver missing...." which would show right after you select the language during installation.
While in OS X, go to the intel website and download the the driver for USB 3.0. Place the file on your windows partition. Boot again, hold the option key and select your flash drive which has the Windows 7 installer on it. Once you get the error message, click browse and locate the driver on your windows partition. Once installed, Windows 7 installs without any problems. -

I found a solution!
Perhaps this is just temporary, but I have my display up and working again.
Although the symptoms are different were a bit different, the solution here worked:

As I was able to connect to my HD via an external monitor, in the finder, I went to:
1. Macintosh HD --> System --> Library --> Extensions
2. From there I moved all of the files that started with ADM and ATI (19 in total for me) to a folder on my desktop. (You will need to enter your admin password for this)
3. Next was a restart.
4. Then my display started working again.
5. After that, I transferred the files back into my Extensions folder.
6. I then did another restart with my fingers crossed and breath held. It worked.
Also... During the last few days of trying to find a fix, I restored a Mavericks backup to my computer away from Yosemite.
I'm very sure this problem occurred when I put my MBP to sleep, disconnected the power in its sleep, while something was connected to a USB port and unplugging the USB device (for me an iPhone charger) while the MBP was closed.

2013 MBP will not partition internal HD.

I've recently experienced my 2013 MBP 13" getting slower and as the HD was getting full I decided to upgrade from 500GB to 1 TB.
The first disk i tried was the Seagate sshd slim hybrid disk. This disk was fine (and bootable) in an external USB enclosure, but once I cloned my MBP (using CCC) and mounted the disk internally it wouldn't boot. I tried formatting the disk using disk utility, both booted from the original HD i the usb enclosure and via the online recovery system. All to no avail. Disk utility kept giving error messages saying "can not make disk passive"(roughly translated from Danish).
At that point CCC tech support told me to get a new HD as he was certain it was faulty.
I did just that but now the new (WD blue 1 TB) drive can't be formated as well. I get the error: "wiping volume data to prevent future accidental probing failed"
I am at a loss as to what to do. The MBP works fine, albeit slow booted from the original HD, but I can't seem to partition any new drive.
Hoping for an expert answer in here.
Regards. AndersDo not use WD Blue drives or any "green" drives. WD Blacks are fine. Seagate and Hitachis are also fine, but avoid the hybrid because they sometimes don't work in some Macs. I don't know how you went about the process of prepping the drives or installing OS X, so here's what I would have suggested.
Install Mavericks, Lion/Mountain Lion Using Internet Recovery
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
Boot to the Internet Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND-OPTION- R keys until a globe appears on the screen. Wait patiently - 15-20 minutes - until the Recovery main menu appears.
Partition and Format the hard drive:
Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
After DU loads select your newly installed hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
Select the volume you just created and click on the Erase tab in Disk Utility's main window. Set the Format type to Mac OS Extended, Journaled then click on the Security Options button. Set the slider to the first notch - one pass. Click on the OK button then click on the Erase button.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion. Mavericks: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks and click on the Install button. Be sure to select the correct drive to use if you have more than one.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
This should restore the version of OS X originally pre-installed on the computer. -
I have a late 2013 MBP with only 2 thunderbolt ports. I want to set up two external displays (both have usb ports on the back but not thunderbolt so I can't daisy-chain) but one of my thunderbolt ports is being taken up by the ethernet adapter. Is it possible to convert one of my displays to plug into my open HDMI slot? Or is it better to use the two thunderbolt ports for the two displays and switch the ethernet to the slower usb adapter?
You can use a HDMI to DVI adapter if the display resolution is not greater than 1920 x 1200.

Can I upgrade memory/SSD on late 2013 MBP retina?
I have late 2013 MBP retina, 2.4 ghz, 11,1., basic 4GB and 125GB. I checked with OWC and they yet to have any solutions to upgrade. Am I stuck with this? Wanting to do some video editing and afraid I'll be bogged down.
No. Neither are user-upgradeable in that model. What makes you feel you will be bogged down? If you need more disk space just add an external USB drive. You should have sufficient RAM if you don't try to run far too many applications concurrently for the memory installed.

Startup Disk not there when reinstalling OSX (Early 2013 MBP retina)
I had reinstalled the OSX on my MBP a few times so I am not unfamiliar with the process of rebooting from the boot menu, formatting via the disk utility and then reinstalling either via a backup or from the internet backup (as the retina does not have a dvd drive).
Doing it this time and I did nothing different, however upon entering the disk utility screen, the main disk image simply wasn't there. I was conducting a reinstall of OSX from the internet and had already downloaded the new software, as you have to do when installing from the internet. I then came to the disk utility screen, ready to reformat the hard drive and it simply wasn't there at all. The only image there was the one I had just downloaded ready to install.
Thinking this extremely strange, I reboot the computer and it takes ages, then comes to a screen with a continually flashing folder symbol with a question mark in it. I have left it like this for 30 mins with no change.
So now, I cannot boot normally, and I cannot reinstall a downloaded image on the main SSD because it is not showing at all in the disk utility.
I have plugged in an external hard drive and am currently installing a new image on this to try to check where the main hard drive is once it is up and running, but any help at all would be greatly appreciated.
As mentioned, it is an early 2013 MBP retina, the warranty is up so cannot take it back to apple.If you live near an Apple Store, make a Genius Bar appointment to have the computer tested. Supposedly there is no charge for testing. Use 2nd link if not near an Apple Store or aren’t in the US.

After i updated to mavericks, my usb ethernet adapter stopped working.
I'm not sure why, but when I updated my software to mavericks, my USB ethernet adapter stopped working.

After I updated to Mavericks, I installed the driver in this page, but it didn't work. Then I googled "AX88772" which is my adapter's part no. or something like that, and I installed that one:

I wasn't expecting that work but that did work. So, I think the solution of the problem is finding the right driver. I hope you solve your problem too. -

What version of Windows works best with Mavericks Bootcamp? Should I use Windows 7 or 8? x64 or x86?
My preference Windows 7 because Windows 8 is designed for and works best on a touch screen computer.. Regardless, use 64 bit.

2013 MBP i7 Rebooting - kernal panic?
Second attempt at this post (crashed and rebooted in midst of first draft). Running 10.9.2 on a 2013 MBP i7 with 16GB factory-installed RAM. I usually leave the laptop on overninght and this week I have awoken each morning to the login screen after an apparent reboot overnight. Tonight the computer has rebooted six times in less than an hour. I've shut down and rebooted, disconnected from Thunderbolt display and Apogee Duet, all to the same same result: continued reboots. Flash Player won’t install after downloading
On the first attempt to install v14, Flash Player v13 was installed and working fine.
I opened the installation package for the new Flash Player, followed standard protocol for installing Mac software and it hung before retrieving anything.
Subsequently, while watching the beach ball spin, I got an error message that the installer could not retrieve the v13 Flash Player software.
So I uninstalled Flash Player 13 and again attempted to install v14, only to see the spinning beach ball followed by a message that the installer could not retrieve the v14 Flash Player software.
I am running OS X v10.9.4 on an early 2013 MBP/Retina display with 3GHz Intel Core i7 processor and 8GB DDR3 1600 MHz Ram.
If you have any ideas or suggestions regarding my issue, please let me know.
