2014 MBP: 1 x 4k display & 2 x 1k Displays, possible???

Hi,
Today i have two Full HD displays running through Thunderbolt and HDMI.
Is it possible to connect a third display (4K at 60Hz) through the remaining Thunderbolt display??
I'm aware of the limitations of running only one 4K at 60hz through the Mac, so i will only use one.  But also want my two 1K monitors connected.
Does anyone know if this is possible??  Has anyone tried??
Many thanks!

Howdy sugabyte,
The mid-2014 model of MacBook Pro with retina display supports using up to two external displays. See this specifications sheet -

  • 2 internal PCI-e based devices on "2014" MBPs??

Is it possible to have 2 internal pci-e based devices on "2014" MBPs?
    And why not?
    One from which to "Boot."
The other from which to store the active user folder, or to designate as a file destination from software.
(No optical drive leaves no "professional" options, especially when Time Machine is not possible on location.)
(Yes, I do know what Thuderbolt is, as well as that protocol's available devices, including bus-powered Thunderbolt devices...
Notwithstanding, because Thurderbolt is OUTSIDE of the MBP's body underscores the original point of my question:
Is it possible to have 2 internal pci-e based devices on "2014" MBPs?
    And why not?)
(Meanwhile, Apple is coming up with comments like what the current iOS 7 displays when modular devices are attached that are not manufactured by Apple : "The cable or accessory is not certified and may not work reliably with this iPhone."  Does this exemplify unfortunate harbingers of something I hate to admit about Apple?  What ever happened to "Think Different?"
(Does this mean having a "logistics" guy at the helm, Apple will no longer maintain its edge?)
(Thankfully I am comfortable in Linux, Windows, and OSX for a possible coming switch after 27 years of devotion to Apple products.)

Cost. Cost of TB2 drive case or even PCIe controller and box depending.

After installation of latest Bridge and Photoshop version (2014.2.2) *.CR2 files will not be displayed correctly anymore, neither in preview nor in Camera Raw dialogue.
Some pictures have white squares with blue and red diagonal stripes that cover almost the complete picture.
When opening those files I have the same problem in Camera Raw dailogue and even in Photoshop eventually.
I tried to open the same same pictures on another computer with the same version of Bridge and Photoshop but the problem remains the same.
It seems like the files itselves are still ok, because if you open an explorer window the previews of the pictures are all ok. And the pictures' sizes remain the same.
I tried to clear the cache in both programs but it didn't help.
    Has anyone an idea????

First see if a reboot of your PC helps.  If not,
    Resets may be in order:
Photoshop: Press and hold Control - Shift - Alt immediately upon cold-starting Photoshop.  If you get the keys down quickly enough - and you have to be VERY quick - it will prompt you to confirm deletion of your established preferences, which will lead to them all being set to defaults.
Bridge:  Start Adobe Bridge and immediately press Ctrl+Alt+Shift (Windows) or Command+Option+Shift (Mac OS) until the Reset Settings dialog box appears. Select all three options--Reset Preferences, Reset Standard Workspaces, and Purge Entire Thumbnail Cache--and then click OK.
Outdated graphics drivers can also cause display problems. Go to your GPU maker's website and be sure you have the latest drivers for your card model.

  • How do I connect a new Thunderbolt MBP to and old 23" HD Cinema Display ADC port

A question Im sure many have asked but I cant find a straight forward answer.
I simply will be buying a new thunderbolt MBP 15 and NEED to connect it an old 23" Apple Cinema Display that uses the old ADC connector.
Can I do it and if so how? I realise theres a potential under powering issue?
    Thanks

    Hello Sigh
I am sure there is no way to get your ADC connector display to function with your new Mac Book Pro.
I tried everying I could and gave up and purchased a 24" Apple refurbbished Cinema Display for $599 + tax on 4/27/2011. The Apple part number is FBXXXXL/A, Model A1287.
Gave my  year 2002 ADC 22" display to a friend.

Got my new MBP 2011 today. Hooked it up to my 23" Apple Cinema Display fine, using the Apple DVI to ADC converter > Mini Display port adaptors. I could then mirror display, but only at 1440 x 900 resolution.
My dream is to have it like my old laptop--I mostly leave it shut, and main display is on the Cinema Display. So far, if I close the laptop lid on my new MBP, display shuts off. Also, can't get it to bump up the resolution to 1920.
    Sigh.

  • What's the best way to move files from my 2012 iMac to my 2014 MBP?

What’s a good way to move files from my 2012 iMac to my MBP?
I prefer to do graphic work on my 21-inch iMac (2012 version). But when I travel I need to copy files to my 2014 MBP. I learned that my 2012 iMac is too old for use of AirDrop, so I’m copying and moving files with a flash drive. That seems slow and clumsy. Is there a better way?

Target Disk Mode would provide a direct connection between the two Macs:

Nothing simpler than that is available.

I (think I) have all the required tools

  • Install 10.8 on Mid-2014 MBP

I just bought a new mid-2014 MBP 13".  I have applications that will not run properly on anything newer than 10.8 and I cannot run them from a virtual machine.  Prior to moving to the new laptop, I made a DMG of my 10.8 install so I could easily restore it to my new laptop.  However when I did restore it and tried to boot to it, it gave me a circle with a line through it.
Additionally, when I created a bootable 10.8 install on a USB stick, I got the same problem.
Is there anyway possible to get 10.8 running on this laptop?

I dont want to give any bad advice and mess something up for you, but i would google creating disk partitions and maybe by creating a new one or erasing the one on there may help with that process...again not to sure on the matter but give it a search
    Thanks for chiming in.
I appreciate your comment but I already fully understand the dirty details of dual booting.  I have two partitions already, one for 10.10 and one for 10.8 (currently blank).  I successfully restored my 10.8 DMG but when I tried to boot to it, I got the circle with a line through it.  I got the same circle when I tried to boot to a 10.8 USB install stick.
Following the exact same steps with Mavericks allows me to boot to it.  I am sure it's because 10.8 doesn't support the new hardware in this MBP.  But if there is a hack or a work around, I need to at least try to get 10.8 running on this.

  • MBP (early 2009) won't wake from Display Sleep

My MBP has started to not wake from Display Sleep (the machine is not sleeping, only the display). The only way to get it back is to force power off by holding the power button down.
The weird thing is, when I power it on, it shows the 'loading RAM from disk' progress bar down the bottom of the all grey screen, as if the battery ran out. But I have it connected to a power source. Once it loads the RAM, the screen goes blank and it hangs. Another force restart and it boots to the login screen as per normal.
One thing I have noticed is that when this all happens (ie, when I try to wake it and nothing happens) the fans are on about medium speed and its very warm, as if there is some process thats causing high CPU usage and preventing the display waking. I usually have a few browsers open, iTunes, etc, nothing out of the ordinary.
I might try connecting via screen sharing next this happens to see if its responsive over the network -- i'll post my findings here.
I have screen saver with password protection turned on, and its connected to an external apple display.
    Has anyone else experienced this?

    Try a SMC reset.

  • MBP Retina 15" freezing when plugging thunderbolt display

When I get to work I connect my (in sleep mode) MBP-Retina to the thunderbolt display and *often* the system symply freezes:
    black screen and
    completely unresponsive to input (mouse/keyboard).
Unplugging the thunderbolt plug and opening the laptop display does little to help.
The screen remains black and the only solution is to FORCE SHUTDOWN the system.
Note also I have had this problem on two different MacBook Pro Retina laptops and
two thunderbolt 27" display with brand new installs of the OS.
Anybody else having this problem? For a >5k$ setup this is REALLY EMBARASSING...

Hi, I am having the same problem.
I have a Mac Book Pro 15' with retina display.
The Thunderbolt Display has an ethernet cord, two drives (one usb and one firewire), and a logitech unifying wireless adapter connected.
This happens so often that I am now turning off/on my MBP before (un)plugging it into the monitor

    Hello ATLawson,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I understand that the display, after connecting to a projector, does not have the image quality you would expect. There may be a few different troubleshooting steps I would recommend in this situation. To begin troubleshooting, I would suggest reading over and working through the information in the attached article.

  • HT3382 Connect from a MacBook Pro's mini display port to a Display Port monitor?

    Hello everyone,
Is it possible to connect from a MacBook Pro's mini display port to a Display Port monitor with resolutions higher than 1920 x 1200? It seems Apple does not supply a mini-DP to DP adapter.
However, just as they do not make a mini-DP to HDMI adapter, but they do recommend a Belkin product for this purpose.
Is there any reason that a mini-DP to DP adapter or cable wouldn't work and support high resolutions?
    Thanks for your feedback!

    Hey tjk,
    Thanks for the response.
Do you have any recommendations for a potential set up? The audio output and Apple DVI are on different sides of my MBP, which is alright, I guess I can get two long cables to handle each. I was hoping to just have my MBP closer to where I use it, with a cord nearby plugged in on one side to the HDTV and resting near where I keep my MBP for when I want to use the HDTV as an external monitor.
With a converter like this, you can run video out of the MBP's DVI port, and miniToslink (optical) audio out of the 3.5mm stereo mini jack to the converter, then it will combine the two and output audio and video through HDMI to the monitor.
    http://www.supermediastore.com/product/u/apogee-dvi-to-hdmi-converter-spdif-opti cal-toslink-coaxial-input-output?utm_source=cj&utm_medium=aff&utm_content=HDMI+A ccessories
Otherwise, depending on the TV's inputs, for video you could run DVI to DVI on the TV, or DVI to HDMI to the TV. For audio you could run 3.5mm stereo mini plug from the MBP to RCA adapter on the TV. Toslink/optical is also an option.

From System Profiler, please post the "Machine Model" information from its Hardware Overview page. There are quite a few MBP variants today and knowing the exact variant helps others help you.
Example: the Machine Model" info for my Late 2007 MBP 15" is "MacBookPro3,1" and this very accurately identifies the computer for troubleshooting purposes.
If the machine model reports a number higher than "4,1" you have a newer MBP that's covered in this forum section:

Hi, Trying it once more to give more clarity of my scenario.
I have to navigate from 1 screen to the other by picking a given table record/row from the 1st screen. While displaying the record on the 2nd screen the catch is that, I have to display it as many times as the value in a cell of the selected record.
    eg.
    screen 1
    col1   col2     col3
    2 order1 item1
    [next]
On clicking next it should look like
    screen2
    col1           col2            col3           col4
    order1 item1
    order1 item1
where col3 and col4 will be editable by the user and col1 is the value depends how many times i have repeat the row/record
    Hope this give more clarity.

  • Multiple Displays With Single Mini Display Port

I have a 2010 MacBook Pro running Mavericks. I already have a display running from a miniport-to-hdmi adaptor which works great but I'm thinking of adding an additional monitor to the setup.
Is it just as simple as using an hdmi splitter and plugging in the second display or is there something else I need to do?
    Thanks, Dan

    Dan,
for a Mid 2010 model, you’ll need to use something like the Matrox DualHead2Go Digital Mac Edition multi-display adapter with a DVI-to-HDMI adapter to connect your current display. If your current display or your second display has a DVI input port, then no additional adapter would be needed.
