20g 4th Gen locks up computer

Ive tried all of apples suggested fixes for the problem, but without a resolution.
What is happening is when I plug the IPOD in the USB port to connect to itunes it isn't recognized, then after a few seconds in the upper left corner of the lcd screen it has the two arrows symbol show up. As soon as the symbol appears the system slows to a crawl and it starts dropping frame rates like crazy.
Any idea's would be appreciated. Thanks guys

How do I setup my Airport to allow this computer to connect without having to enter the password every time?
The proper setting would not be on the AirPort, but on the PC's wireless connection settings. For XP, you should be able to go to Network Connections, and then, select your wireless network. Right-click on your network, and then, select Properties. Select the Wireless Networks tab and make the necessary changes there.

Well, there is always the possibility that it's been jailbroke, in which case, you're out of luck.  However...

hello. my ive been trying to restore my ipod touch 4th gen because it was frozen on the apple logo. i got it to go to the connect to itunes image. i plugged it into my computer to try and restore. i open itunes and it says "you must restore this ipod to use itunes". i click ok and then i accept the terms. after that it shows that it will take 41 mins to restore, but then it says "we connot restore this, there was a problem. it also says to check your network connections or try again" my network connetions are on and its still not working! please help

Disabling the computer's antivirus and firewall during the download and update usually resolves the timeout error.

  • I downloaded music to my ipod (4th gen) from my computer but it was mp3 format.  It shows that the music is in there but I can not play it.  It seems to  be in there as a file but not as music.

I downloaded music from my computer to my ipod (4th gen) but I can not listen to it. It shows that it is on there as files but not music is this because the music was format for a mp3.  How do I convert it to play on the ipod or move it to the music file?

The iPod can play MP3 files, so that's not the problem.
It sounds like you're accessing the iPod as a disk drive, and copying files in Windows Explorer.
This is not the way to put music on your iPod. You have to install iTunes on your computer, and put your music in iTunes. Then you can use iTunes to select the music you want on your iPod.

  • Is it possible to use your iPod Touch 4th Gen from your computer?

I have an iPod Touch 4th Gen. And I broke the screen, the sent it in to get fixed... the people put the screen on wrong. It worked for a while, then it stopped working. I was trying to use it one day, and I accedentaly put on the curtain mode. So now, I have an iPod Touch with the I can't use. I haven't sent it in yet though. So in the mean time I've been trying to find a way to use my iPod without actually using my iPod. If you get what I'm saying.
Does anyone know how I can use my iPod without actually "using it"?
    Please you'd save my life!

With the exception of using a docking station to play music, there is no way to "use" your iPod through your computer.
And what the heck is "curtain mode"?

  • Replacement Question: Ipod 20G 4th Gen Vs. Ipod 30G 5th Gen

The 20G non-color display Ipod that I owned for 18 months died mysteriously last Sunday. I lifted it out of the charge dock after it fully charged and the click wheel had become completely unresponsive. The video display was fully functional.... but otherwise it wouldn't go. I tried resetting about 5 times in all and did full restore and nothing changed. It's pretty much dead for no reason. (And no, I didn't buy the Apple Care plan because I hadn't expected it to crap out on me after just 18 months.
I considered having it repaired by Apple only to find out that Apple won't repair it. Or the guy on the phone says that they don't repair anything that doesn't have a care plan. (Sidebar: This guy was the rudest support agent I've ever, ever spoken to Apple. He actually said 'well, I don't know what to say to someone who didn't bother to read the fine print.' I hung up on him right about then.)
So, now I'm faced with replacing it. None of the other non-Apple brands appeal to me and I've discovered that really, as sad it is- I can't live without my Ipod. But I'm not sure whether to buy a 20g refurb or just bite the bullet and spend the additional 80 bucks for the 5th gen 30g.
Reasons Why I Should Get A Refurb:
*I have all the 20g accessories (charge dock, armband) and can't afford and don't want to replace all that stuff with 30g stuff.
    * I have absolutely no interest in the ability to watch videos on Ipod on a 2" screen. I suppose this is blasphemy but I'm a simple girl when it comes to her tech. It needs to play my music and occassionally store a .doc file- it doesn't need to be tricked out.
    * It's 80 bucks cheaper than the new 30g.
    * I'm still in love with my 20g even though it clearly doesn't love me.
    Reasons To Get a 30G:
    * Apple is/has phasing out the 4th gen and all of its accessories. I will be relegated to sale bins and combing Ebay for "vintage" 4th gen stuff very soon.
    * Apple Care Plan: Okay, I've seen the light- but can I even get a plan with a refurb?
    * The refurb could crap out on me within mere minutes of it finding its way to me.... Unlikely but considering how fast mine died, I'm gunshy.
    * Smaller Ipod- the 4th gens aren't that large but I'm told the 5th gens are less clunky.
In truth, I'm not sure what to do and I'd appreciate input and feedback from others on your experience with any of the issues in the above post.

  • HT201269 i have copied pictures from my old ipod 4th gen to my computer, i recently got a new ipod 4th gen today, i transferred all of my music, but when i open the folder to the DCIM (something like that) it will not let me copy the two photo folders, pl

I need help on how to copy photos from my old 4th gen ipod touch to my new one, i have the folders but when i try to put them in the main folder (DCIM) it shows a red X as it will not allow me to copy them, please i need help these pics cannot be replaced!!

I do not really understand what you are doing to get them from the iPod to the computer.
First import them to the computer by:
iOS: Importing personal photos and videos from iOS devices to your computer
The sync them to the the other device

  • I plug my iPod touch (4th gen) into my computer, and the computer nor iTunes recognizes the device. It is a brand new ipod, and I already updated my iTunes to the current version. Help! I want to get music off of my computer!

    Why won't it recognize?

iCloud is free, iTunes match is $25 a year.
I had the same problem and when I went to Settings I had 0 songs, even though they were obviously still there since I only had 15GB free on my 64GB device.
I decided to do a complete reset/restore of my 4th gen iPod Touch, Bad move! I've been messing with it for hours, and it simply won't restore--it keeps hanging on a black screen with an Apple logo and a progress bar at about 10%, sometimes it goes completely blank and tries again, with the same result. (I've posted my question/plea for help here: https://discussions.apple.com/message/19735862 )
I'm ready to bang my head against the wall! I can put the device in recovery mode, connect to iTunes on my computer, and get it back to the setup screen, but when I go through the process again and try to do an iCloud backup I get the same reset/restore loop.
I could start from scratch, but I really, really, really don't want to go through all of my hundreds of apps, reinstall them one by one, etc. etc. etc.
I thought that once I started using iCloud, I didn't need to sync with iTunes anymore--guess I was wrong.

  • Apple ipod touch 4th gen lock button?

So the lock button of my 2nd hand iPod touch 4th gen is totally pressed in, (it was like that when I got it) and it was fine for about the first 6 months because I was using assistive touch to lock it but now it's started acting like it's being pressed all the time. I can barely use it anymore because it locks and unlocks it self about twice a second. I was just wondering if there was any way to reassign the button so that it stops flashing on and off all the time. Any help would be appreciated.

There is no way to reassign buttons.

  • When I try to connect my iPod 4th gen to my computer I get a message stating that it may be corrupted and asks if I wish to format the disc. However, I have hundreds of songs and photos that I don't want to lose. What can I do?

When I try to connect my iPod Nano 4th gen to my laptop I get a message that my device may be corrupted and asks do I want to format the disc.  However, I have hundreds of songs and photos that I don't want to lose. What can I do?

This can sometimes be the result of a faulty/damaaged USB sync cable.  Do you have another cable you could test it out with?

  • Windows 7 computer shut down and restarted - no memory of iTunes or other files. I want to sync my iPod 4th Gen. to the computer, but it offers erase-and-sync. Now what?

In a nutshell, the family computer, a Compaq Desktop Windows 7, has been in our family since November 2010-ish. We moved last summer, and nothing happened to it. A couple of weeks ago, the desktop had a whole "recovery-restart-etc" dilemna and no it's like new - no memory of the past files. I had iTunes (7 or 9), for only me, the only iTouch 4th generation user in the house. Basically no other Apple products. Now that I want to fix the computer (restore old photos and applications, etc) as well as move my music to the desktop itself, iTunes tells me I must update my iOS 4....? (never updated the iOS thing) So I try to do so, and iTunes tells me I have to transfer my music files to the library. Fine. I try, and since the iTouch has a previous history with the previous iTunes library BEFORE the major shutdown, it tells me to erase and sync my data! I don't want to lose all my music and repay for it, and I may be smart, but I'm not at the Genius Bar, am I? So can somebody help me? Please? Thank you in advance.

    - Transfer iTunes purchases to the computer by:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to a computer
    - For other music yu will need a third-party program like one of those discussed here:
Copy music from Ipod to new computer...: Apple Support Communities
    - If you have photos synced to the iPod you will need a pair program like TouchCopy or PhoneView. They also do music
    - The connect the iPod to the computer and make a backup by right clicking on the iPOd under Devices in iTunes and select Back Up
    - Restore the iPod from that backup. The will also update the iOS on the iPod.

  • How do i put music from my itouch 4th gen on the computer if i didnt purchase it with the ipod but i got it from cds

My computer broke and my ipod nano was stolen so all i have is my itouch 4 and the music on it is from cds so i cant transfer purchases
    Anybody know any free solutions

I don't think hard resetting the phone is the answer in your case.
If there is anything on the memory card that you need to keep (music, photos etc.) then you first need to back that up - formatting the memory card will wipe it. You could use Content Copier in PC Suite to backup all phone data from phone memory and memory card, then reformat the memory card using the N97s user interface, and try restoring the N81 content to it. Most of the stuff should be transferable.
Alternatively you could also connect to the PC in mass storage mode and drag/drop the contents with Windows into a folder on your hard drive, then conenct the n97 and drag/drop the content into its mass memory.
