Congratulations.
Luckily, Kudos is not a currency.  Otherwise....
Spoiler (Highlight to read)
Pfft.  If the usual rules of inflation would apply to Kudos, I'm afraid I'd be terribly depressed since greedy people like Altenbach are making it hard for the rest of us to keep up.  All those Kudos are diluting the value of all of our hard work.  I think we should all call for government intervention in order to bring some stability to the system before we have an international Kudos Crisis!
What's the exchange rate between Kudos and Bitcoins today?

  • Opening .txt file - Need another set of eyes

Hi folks - The attached file opens in Notepad and MS Excel as 9999 rows x 3 columns (X,Y,Z values, respectively).  I have tried different delimiters using 'Read From Spreadsheet File.vi' to bring in all the data but only successful bringing in the first column of 9999 values.  Can someone take a look at this and give me the trickto get it open using LabVIEW?  I expect it is something very simple but it is a Monday, isn't it?
    Thanks in advance.

  • 24 Great Ideas from Idea Exchange for you to Kudos

There are 1140 ideas on the LabVIEW Idea Exchange right now. That's a lot of ideas, and it doesn't even count the RT or FPGA exchanges. Reading through all of them is something most of you can't spend time doing. Some of the ideas quickly garner a lot of Kudos, and those jump to the top of the lists and get attention from NI. Others are good, but they languish, lost in the noise.
I have read them all, generally by staying up-to-date on the forum ever since its inception. I kudos'd many as I went. Over the weekend, I went through all of the ideas I had kudos'd and picked out a set that I think a lot of customers would want but that don't have the high Kudos ratings. Maybe these got posted on a weekend or holiday. Maybe the title is a bit misleading and you didn't bother to read it. Or maybe you've just stopped reading the Idea Exchange because you couldn't keep up with the wash of words fellow wire workers are writing. Perhaps this simplified menu will be a bit easier to browse.
To be clear: I'm not including any of the ideas that already have high Kudos counts. Those are great ideas, but they've already got their time in the sun. These are the little quiet ideas that I think might make a big impact on your productivity, your VI's functionality or your VIs performance. All of these had fewer than 100 Kudos when I made this list. Full disclosure: Two ideas on the list (12 & 23) are ones I submitted to the Exchange. I think they warrant being on the list, but maybe I'm biased because they happen to affect the areas of LV I use most. You be the judge... :-)

A good example is the fact that one of the most popular ideas ever was the idea to adjust the design of the boolean constant.  Altenbach, who came up with that idea, have received less kudos for other ideas that I'm sure would give him (and us) much higher benefits. Popularity and greatness are very often two different things.
Although I get your general point, having used LV 2010 in beta for the last few months, the improvement of readability of diagrams brought by the boolean constant change cannot be understated. Tons of VIs have arrays of boolean constants on them, have boolean constants squeezed into small corners, etc, and the redesign has helped A LOT.
Speaking to your general point -- my goal was to find low-ranked ideas that I felt would have significant developer impact and give people a second chance to review those ideas. Are there other ideas among the 1000 that are worth doing? Sure. I tried to find a broad enough set that people could actually make a meaningful choice of what to kudos (any fewer and it would be akin to "hey, everyone, come vote for this particular idea"). And it does rely upon my opinion -- though I tried to use my professional opinion as someone who regularly hears user feedback to promote ideas that I think users would generally like, as opposed to my personal opinion as a LV developer to improve the areas of LV that I personally use a lot.
I know that customers like it when NI is responsive to its demands. I know that NI knows this and so is proactively trying to address concerns that make it high on the Idea Exchange. LV 2010 is coming out in August. If you look at the ideas that are tagged "In Beta", you can see the responsiveness of NI. As we start work on the next version of LV (or rather, full time work, since future versions of LV are always already in work -- we are a parallel language in so many ways), we're going to go find the next batch of ideas to implement. But I also know that there can be user fatigue with the Idea Exchange's massive amount of content. That fatigue can lead to a strange situation where NI addresses the high flying concerns and, users are still left feeling they didn't quite get what they wanted, but they maybe can't say why because, after all, NI implemented the high kudos ideas. I cherry picked some ideas that, if implemented, I think would get a lot of people saying, "Yes, LV is now better" as a way of avoiding some of that fatigue effect. Is it a list of earthshattering ideas that revolutionize LV? No. It is a list of incremental improvements that should affect lots of people and make LV recognizably better to its users.

  • (BUG REPORT) Kudos to the Dev Team OS 2.0 Rocks Major Improvement

Kudos to the BB Playbook OS 2.0 Dev Team (Excellent Release!!)I want to give my personal thanks as a loyal blackberry customer to the Developer/ Coding Team over at RIM. I am thoroughly impressed with the update. I absolutely love the reader feature. The new home screen and folders is implemented wonderfully. Also, it appears battery life has been improved (No easy task). Great job.
There are a few little bugs to be fixed for the next maintanence update.
    1. Flash is not polished, it's only partially working.
The daily show (with John Stewart) (www.thedailyshow.com)(full episodes link), and several other flash video webistes have trouble with the controls (play, pause). The controls either don't show, or don't function, or neither, or function sporadically. Also, possibly an app could be created so that a flash video stream would open in a separate window allowing the controls to function correctly if there is some reason it is difficult in the web browswer. I can get the daily show playing but, pausing it, or fastforwarding, now that's a challenge. Make the buttons larger maybe (I don't know if that's possible, not familiar with flash.)
    2. Media Player: The media player has some bug in the code that is causing it to become choppy when scrolling through the list of songs.  I have some album art, and maybe that has something to do with it. But I didn't notice it before the update.
Also, it may be a neat idea to add some different color backgrounds to the music player skin(Hot pink, or something) to take care of the lady geeks, women buy stuff too, think all girl dorm room full of playbooks. Also, it is kind of a less than sexy music player skin (Unlike the new home screen wow, very polished.) Also, because all my music doesn't have album art, it makes the music player look strange. Some of the icons have only 3 of 4 pictures filled in Looks weird.
Also, when fast forwarding with the slider bar clicking with my finger causes a slight pop in the earphones (It needs to mute, then fastforward, then unmute, then play.) Imagine a playbook hooked up at a wedding to a 5000 dollar soundsystem, pop, then bye bye speakers.
    3. Book Reader Power Mode - I was using "Book Reader" app from the app store and I noticed something that could be fixed. The truth is that when people read ebooks, the power managment settings should be a little different. I suggest adding a 3rd power managment mode that the ebook reader apps can access. That way, every time I open an ebook it sets the screen to stop going dim every 30 seconds like I would use for messages and general use throughout the day. It should stay the same in this mode rather plugged in or not. The screen brightness should not be affected by the power plug either. "Nothing like waking the wife up with the flashlight tablet because it was going dead and you decided to plug it in while reading your technical manual at 2am."
    4. Silent on schedule (Totally Silent, VIP Vibrate, VIP ring) (A feature that I wished both my bold 9700, and playbook had was a feature I'll call silent on schedule. The idea is simple, for the most part people know what time they need their phone to shut up and be quiet. Why can't RIM integrate silent mode with our calenders. A simple checkbox in the calender options and your phone (and playbook) will automatically stay silent, except for VIPs. It goes without saying that your ringer should go to normal at the end of the meeting, or court appearance (lots of lawyers use blackberry), lot's of students would appreciate this too. It would save us from having to constantly be changing our ringing mode all day. If I were RIM I would patent that one. (If you do, and want to send me a new touch screen phone as a thanks that's cool with me, but not required, just free thoughts for you to use however you want.)
    5. Strange WiFi (The playbook has a strange issue where sometimes the wifi displays near zero. I don't know if this is software or hardware. My MBP and Bold 9700 have no such issue. It's a cisco/linksys router with dual g/n.
    6. Before I forget, the web browswer is now awesome. Load times are acceptable. I would like to add though that of all the web browswer's the style, and color of this one is not what I would call "in fashion."
    7. Idea: create an over the air sync system for the blackberry bridge. It should always keep the contacts, calender and maybe photos updated. Since, someone surely has a patent on this one, let me suggest a workaround called 1 at a time. Do an initial sync via usb to both devices on the desktop manager. Then only one device has to ever be connected to sync to laptop, as the other one syncs over bluetooth one item (contact, calender entry, photo at a time.)
    8. Not always on bluetooth. Something tells me that it is not the most secure thing to leave the bluetooth constantly running and connected giving those keys over the air. Maybe it could connect at intervals (or upon status change (message, new contact, calender entry)). This might also save battery too. Just a thought.
I know how easy it is to forget about style, when mechanics are tinkiering around with the insides, but make the fastest car ugly, and no one will buy it. Also, Bill Gates was asked while in the presence of Steve Jobs what was the one thing Steve had he wished he had... Bill Gates said roughly "I wish I had Steve's eye for Style."
The truth is as technology advances, it will fade to the background. Fashion will be where people meed the device. People love a good running car, but gorgeous get's em into the showroom.
Oh yea, like the new keyboard a lot.

Have I mentioned how much i love my playbook now Great job on os 2.0

  • USAA World Mastercard approved $16k, NFCU credit limit increase doubled to $20k!

It's about time ladies and gentlemen!
12.99% for NFCU platinum12.90% for USAA World Mastercard Rewards.
Full USAA member (I think?)  I have Auto, Home, Personal Property Insurance with them.  Also Checking, Savings, Stock account.  Former enlisted, medically retired. I had a Classic card with USAA since 2011.  I didn't know at the time that I couldn't increase the $1k credit limit with that card.  They were charging me a shocking 22.9% apr, but I luckily never carried a balance after the first 6 months of using it.  Usually would charge most of my stuff on it and pay in full.  The NFCU started me off at a $10k credit limit a few years ago and I was really happy with the 12.99% and the first real bigger card.  Everyone else was only offering me $1k and I was very happy with the larger limit.  I do believe that this was also high because I had opened a secured credit card for $10k, yes I had cash at the time but no credit.  I ended up closing that account and getting my money out when the NFCU was accepted.  I truly believe that the lenders look at other credit limits to also base off what they offer you as a credit limit.  Lately though I was getting recked by the high utilization on my NFCU 10k limit as I had just gotten married and luckily we recieved plenty of cash and gifts to cover everything.
So anyways after hanging up with USAA after learning about my classic card with them and not being able to increase credit limit nor change APR, I applied for a USAA World Rewards online and instant approval for $16k @12.9%!  This is going to be my main earn some points and pay in full card.  I just wanted more overhead so that I could spend without worrying about my utilization ratios.  And I've been with USAA for 6 years now. About a few hours after I got the itch to bump up my $10k limit on NFCU, because I had brought the high limit to about $10,125 at one point.  And after lurking for years on this site and reading up on asking for the max limit without review, I did the $25k credit limit increase online.  They countered with $20k!  I accepted!  I just sent a message to see if they could reduce my interest rate and we shall see within the next few days.
Never had a late payment on my report, but was a bad boy at 18-19 years old.  About 3 years ago everything bad off my credit fell off from the 7 year rule.  I had some late payments and such at 18 years old.  I ended up disputing them on annual credit report to verify the numbers are correct and they ended up removing the bad ones luckily!
I want to say my score is in the mid 720s.  But my vantage score that shows on the credit cards is 699, probably due to that high 9k balance on the Navy Fed that hasn't reflected on the reports yet. I do shop at Costco a lot but never had their AMEX.  But was thinking of applying for the Visa rate advantage with USAA to use at Costco.  My mom added me as an authorized user on her AMEX for costco so she could get points.  But I called AMEX and canceled my authorized user account with them a few months back.  I disputed online that I never signed anything and was added on by my mother.  Transunion removed the AMEX and another card I was authorized on (barclays) but experian just reported them as closed.  Wondering also if this hurt my average age of accounts.  My credit sesame shows about 3 years and 6 months for my average age. So currently have my $16k limit with USAA World Mastercard$20k limit with NFCU PlatinumOnly two credit cards as I canceled my $1k limit classic crap card.  Have one car loan open now and one mortgage.  Had many car loans, about 2 car refi's, even had 3 car loans open at one time during my high 680ish scores.  Lots of utilization I guess, they say they hate it, but they secretely love a good comeback story.

Thanks everyone!  Wanted to update that Navy Fed denied my APR decrease and they said I could do it once a year.  Eh, 12.99 isn't too bad. Also wanted to add that I got my first VA loan when I was around 620ish and I brought it up from 580 a few months before.

  • New Feature - Kudos!

What is this Kudos widget now found on the left side of the screen on each post? (The one with the star.)
Kudos is a new feature we've enabled in the Lenovo Community for members to recognize the best contributions of other members and to let them know that they have a shared a great thought, idea, or solution.   While one post may become a solution, there were likely a number of strong contributions along the way... and it's great to recognize those too!
As you browse the forum and find a post particularly valuable, click the star to give it a kudo!
The number which appears is the total number of kudos that this post has received so far.  Click the number displayed in the kudo box to see a list of other members who found this post valuable.
A member may award a particular post only one kudo, and may not kudo their own posts.  The kudo box will be shown greyed out for a member's own posts.
Look for leader boards to see who and what has been voted as valuable over time in the community!
A little about kudos, courtesy of wikipedia ...
Kudos (pronounced /ˈkjuːdɒs/, often /ˈkuːdoʊz/), from the Greek κῦδος - not to be confused with κύδος "taunt" kydos, (literally "that which is heard of'') means "fame" and "renown" resulting from an act or achievement. Extending "kudos" to another individual is often done as a praising remark. It entered English as British university slang in the early 1800s. In Standard British English, as in Greek, Kudos is a singular and not a plural noun, and is used exclusively as such in Britain. However, in common use in the US the noun is often plural: She received many kudos ['ku:doʊz] for her work.

  • The count on "Top Kudoed Authors" seems wildly inaccurate; how does that work?

Not a biggie, but I see on the main page, and on each sub-page, a block called "top kudoed authors".  The counts and top authors vary between pages, but it is always (seemingly) wrong.  Some "top authors" have only 1 Kudos.  Top "kudo" heavyweights appear like Cicopo, but with only a tiny fraction of their actual scores.  What does this mean/ how does this work?

Hi ScottyP, thanks for posting!   We're sorry for the confusion; we think you might be seeing the "Week" view for kudos.  If you click on the "View All" option right below the leaderboard, you can sort viewable options by several different parameters, including "All Time".  This All Time view should give you a more accurate tally of a user's overall kudos.  We hope this helps!

  • OT: Kudos to our Aces

This is really off topic for Apex, but I just received the new Oracle Magazine and started reading an article about the ACE program.
I was surprised when I read that OTN just got their 100th Oracle ACE.
So, with that as a background, mucho kudos to the Oracle ACE's we have in this forum, Scott Spadafore, Joel Kallman, John Scott, Sergio and probably a few others not on the "Top User" list.

    Thanks!
Oh wait...I'm not an Ace....I'm probably just a three or four when it comes to Apex. :)
