20th Anniversary Mac and iTunes

I read somewhere that it might be possible to use the TAM Bose sound system with streamed iTunes music. I have a 350 MHz TAM with a 10/100 ethernet card. Is it possible to stream from my G5 iMac to the TAM with Airport Express and Airtunes? I have iTunes V.2 on the TAM but I'm sure no one was thinking of this capability in those days. The Bose sound system is so good that I'd really like to utilize it if possible. Any help or pointers would be much appreciated to keep this computer going.

Well, in this case, you have two options. With the iMac G5, the AirPort Express, and the TAM, you can use the AirPort Express for streaming. You can either have the AirPort Express hooked up to the Bose Speakers alone, and you could control the songs from the iMac, or you could hook up the Bose system to the AirPort Express, and hook up the TAM to the AirPort Express with ethernet. Now you could turn on sharing in both iTunes on both computers, (if iTunes 2.x supports sharing) and control the shared songs from ur iMac to be played through the bose speakers.

I have a 20th Anniversary Mac running OS 7.6.1. Our internal network is based on Windows 2003 servers. How can I get the 20th Mac on the internet? I have a NIC card installed. I have tried letting it use DHCP, manually setting the IP, etc., but nothing seems to work.
    Any ideas?

  • Airport Express to play music through 20th Anniversary Mac?

I'd like to be able to play music through the Bose sound system in my G3-upgraded 20th Anniversary Mac.  I've used a very early version of iTunes but it annoyingly pauses fairly frequently while playing for some reason.  Since I have an early Airport Express and have an Ethernet adaptor in the TAM I wondered if it's possible to connect the TAM via cable to the Airport Express and stream music from an iMac connected wirelessly to the Airport.  It seems a shame not to utilize the Bose speaker system for music.  Thanks for any ideas and suggestions.

As far as I know this isn't possible. I might try some stuff using my TAM (although results may very, mine isn't a production model) to see about figuring something out. If the computers sit close enough together you might be able to run a 3.5mm(1/8") headphone cable between the iMac's audio out and the TAM's line in, that or make use of the FM tuner and listen to some awesome FM stations.
Now that I think of that you can invest in something like the link I'll add at the bottom of this, connect it to the speaker port of the iMac then use the tuner on the TAM to tune into the frequency of it. This would also allow the connecting of something such as an iPod.

  • 20th anniversary mac service parts

I'm curious if anyone has ideas on how I might find a CD-ROM to replace the CD-ROM in a 20th Anniversary Mac.
I have a TAM a friend used, and I'm trying to ready it for sale.  If you put in a CD, you hear the CD clicking, but the CD doesn't spin.  I've tried manually moving the spindle (as some older CD-Drives of that nature would sometimes have lubrication problems), but no luck.
I've searched the web all over and cannot find if the service parts may even exist.  The drive is unique in that it opens to reveal the disc in place (rather than having a slot, a caddy, or a door that holds the disc). So even though that machine has a lot in common with the Powerbook 3400, the CD-ROM drive is different.
    Ideas?

I don't know if you still need help on fixing your TAM CD device. I had the same problem.
As you know, CD devices for the TAM are rarely available on eBay and cost a fortune (last auction I saw maybe went for 200 bucks or more). The Apple 600i SCSI CD-ROM (tray-loading) internally is very similar to the design of the TAM CD.. They regularly pop up on eBay for $10 to $20. Model CR-504-C appears to be the closest match.
I bought one for $10, opened it up and discarded the casing. The circuit board is identical except for a couple wires controlling opening/closing the loading tray, and an IC chip. The motor mechanism is an identical match. I swapped the motor assemblies (carriage and all) after transferring over the rubber grommets for the TAM. Put my TAM back together, and the CD works flawlessly!
If your problem is not with the motor carriage, then you can try using the circuit board after swapping the IC chip. If it's a problem with the chip, this solution may not work. Seems to me, there is a much higher possiblity of the motor assembly going bad than with the chip.
There is currently an auction on eBay for several of these devices for $15 with free shipping. Can't hurt, only $15. Search eBay for AppleCD 600i CR-504-C. - Fred

  • Screensaver for 20th Anniversary Mac

Hello, I'm looking for a screensaver for my old and bautyful 20th Anniversary Mac. Somebody knows where to find a screesaver (aquarium style...) and if it works with OS 7..6.1 ? Thanks

    rmpostal,
After Dark was the most widely used screen saver.  A google search revealed several options.  Email if you need a disk copy.
    Here is an OS-X version:

I did not spend a lot of time searching for the older downloads because it would be faster to walk upstairs and copy it off the TAM.

Take it to the Apple Store for evaluation.
    Try this.
Restart the iPad by holding down on the Sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut Off. To power up hold the Sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time (for about 10-15 seconds) until the Apple logo appears (ignore the red slider), then let go of the buttons.

I have had about 9 iOS devices at work do this.
The fix and it will wipe out anything on your iphone is to connect it to your computer and have the latest version on iTunes open.  Hold the Power/Sleep and Home button till it blanks out.  Keep holding the home button untill it says recovery mode on the screen of the computer and do a restore.

  • New to mac and itunes is on pc

I just got an imac today and I have the mac and pc networked together and i am currently copying music and movies from pc to mac. I have authorized the mac in the itunes store, so does this mean my purchased movies will load ok into pod from mac? I have some of my movies downloaded onto pc and they are copying over to mac. They are mp4's, should there be any complications with these?
Finally, I know I have to change the ipod from windows to mac, will this delete what's currently on there and will I have to wait until ipod sync with library all over again?
I have never owned a mac before and except for doing taxes online this year, I have never even used one, so any tips or answers would be great.

If you click on the Apple icon in the upper left, the Apple Menu appears. Select "about this Mac". The ensuing panel will show you the version of OS X:
10.4 = Tiger, 10.3 Panther, 10.2 Jaguar. The last number would be the version:
Tiger is not at .8, Panther .9 and Jaguar .8
Mac Maintenance: Have a look at this MacWorld article regarding system maintenance. OnyX facilitates some of these processes, including "repair permissions, maintenance scripts and system optimization". The first two are necessitated by the Unix structure (the underlying foundation of OS X). Permissions sets out who is authorized to access certain files in the computer. The maintenance scripts are best described here.
Which version of the iMac did you purchase? Flat panel G4? Flat panel G5? Intel machine? Have a look at the right panel on Apple History.com to help you in identifying your machine.
There are excellent manuals on the market for better understanding and using OS X. As you become more comfortable with the machine and understand your related needs, post again to the forum in a new thread if you would like guidance about manuals etc.

  • !  Integration of MAC and iTunes with Sonos

I got my first MAC only a few months back. Yesterday, I have installed my first Sonos Speaker System (bridge + play3) together with my IMAC and Synology NAS yesterday.
For a long time I have been ripping and storing CD’s on my NAS, made them available on my MAC via iTunes. I am being used to work with iTunes, from my experience today this my reference in easy usability of large number of CDs.
iTunes very easily allows to correct or add missing information to a CD. Once completed, it is very easy for the user to browse through his music. The great user experience is complemented by the very good features that iTunes offers to sort the music (title, albums, interprets, genres..).
Now, when I uploaded the library into my new Sonos Controller Software, the changes that I made in iTunes were not visible in Sonos SW.  Also, in the Sonos Controller Software I am missing to have the same easy usability, for large number of CD. It appears to me to be a lot of work to get a new sonos system up and running. Especially the controller software requires a lot of work to get the same user experience that I know from iTunes.
Personally, I am very convinced that the user experience of the software surface has a major impact on mid term customer satisfaction for such a system.
Everyone nowdays collects (too) large number of informations at home – I am convinced that companies that give the users the tools to keep a easiest overview of their data will be the winner at the end.
I believe that it would be a great advantage for us customers and Apple if Sonos and Apple provided a solution, I know a number of people that have both systems at home. They both match so well because of their very easy and well done integration of their systems. I would wish for a solution with the iTunes Software and the Sonos Hardware System.
I would wish for a system where iTunes allows streaming of their music to the Sonos System.  The Sonos would only be used to configure the speakers - Sonos has partly already integrated this solution.

  • New to Mac and iTunes and need help!

    Hello all,
Just got my iMac over a month ago and have slowly been able to finally get a chance to use it.
One of the things I'm trying to do is figure out how to do this on a Mac what I used to do in Windows. Switching over has been tough, but I'm getting there slowly but surely.
I had a 3rd Party program for Windows called J River Media Center that pretty much did everything I wanted it to. One of the features I loved about it, was being able to take my music files and locate album art from the internet and add them to my files. I know iTunes does this but I haven't gotten a chance to use this feature yet.
I used to use dbPowerAmp to convert my FLAC files to HQ mp3 files (256-320) as well. Media Center would let me change the file name from the song info. I've been using XLD to convert my FLAC files to MP3 (if you guys have any suggestions on any better programs for Mac I'm always open). It's done its job so far. I haven't figured out how or if iTunes can change file names of my mp3 files from the song info [Artist - Song Name] format. This would be very useful for me.
My next question is, how and why does iTunes make new files everytime I try to make changes to files I play within it? I'm not sure how it works. Basically I copied some of my music from my external to a custom Music folder in Finder, and when I played them in iTunes, I tried to mass change a few of the songs to a custom genre. I found out the original files were not actually modified from iTunes and that iTunes made new files in the itunes folder? It still confuses the **** out of me. Wondering what some of you do to make this less of a headache?
Just one more small thing, can anybody recommend to me a good program for Mac that allows me to modify the Date Modified/Date Created attributes within files? When I put mp3 songs on my MicroSDHC card, I like to add songs in the folder and organize it by Date Modified. Newer songs I always put to the top, but if its an old song but new addition to my memory card, I typically just change its modified date to somewhere older in the folder.

Are you talking about renaming file names, or are you asking about using file names to assign tags to mp3s?  Either way, check out the Dougscripts web site for scripts that greatly increase the versatility of iTunes.
If you use iTunes with default settings it wants to copy files you add to iTunes to folder in the iTunes Media folder, and it insists upon organizing them as it wants to do it.  If you try to do otherwise it will either fight you or end up with you  messing things up and getting "can't find" links.  If you really want to do things as you want to then you need to change iTunes preference settings so you can organize music on your own, but this will slightly alter the behavior of other things in iTunes.  I do not let iTunes organize my music and have adjusted to other changes (not drastic).

  • From PC to Mac and iTunes

So, I used to only have PCs in my life, so when I went to college with my first Mac laptop I knew that I was in for a learning curve. I had just authorized my Mac when I was trying to figure out how to get the songs on my 80GB iPod Classic into my music library. I messed around a bit and tried syncing; only to discover AFTERWARDS that I shouldn't have done that. My empty iPod was proof enough for that. I read around on the site a little and found that there had been a way to transfer had I not tried fooling around on my own. My point is, is there anyway for me to get the songs/movies/audio book that I had purchased from back home (4 hours away) to my laptop. For the iTunes store I'm still using the apple account that I had used on my PC. If I can have someone back home send me the files, then that would be fine too.
Thank you for reading and for any help that you may give.
