21.5" Imac with 2.8ghz Quad-Core i7, 16gb ram and 2 TB hd to use for professional audio recording with Logic 9?

Does anyone have any experience with this exact conifguration? I would like to purchase this and use it for 5-10 years of solid audio production. Any shortcomings?

Ok. So I now I found a local seller who is selling a 2008 Mac Pro. Does anyone want to advice which would be the smarter route to go. This is used, but they are guaranteeing that it is in incredible shape. It's a bit old:
This is a gently used, mechanically sound and tech tested Apple Mac Pro. I am only selling due to our business upgrading, otherwise I love this machine, and would not be selling it. It comes fully loaded (both hardware and software), and is ready for the most robust tasks.
Included with the Mac Pro is 2 brand-new sealed 20.5" Lenovo LCD monitors, Apple Magic Mouse and Apple Wireless Keyboard. Currently, the Mac Pro is setup for dual monitors on the 512mb NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT video card.
The memory on the Mac Pro has been upgraded to 16GB and an Apple OEM 256 GB Toshiba Solid State Drive (SSD) has been added to increase boot up speeds to mere seconds.  The SSD can be configured to run either OS X Lion or Snow Leopard and will also house all of the applications.  The combination of 16GB RAM and the applications residing on the SSD enables this machine to perform at amazing speeds.  It can seamlessly render video and run other ram intensive applications with ease, making this a perfect addition to anyone's video editing studio.
In addition to the 256 SSD, the Mac Pro has a total of 4 TB of storage space with two separate 2 TB hard drives for storing massive amounts of data. (2 open bays if you wish to add more storage).
LOADED SOFTWARE:
MS Office 2011 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Communicator
Adobe CS5 Mastersuite (Photoshop, Encore, Flash, Dreamweaver, Illustrator, FireWorks, Catalyst, Contribute, After Effects, Bridge, and much more!)
Final Cut Pro 7
iLife 2011
Aperture 3
Adobe Acrobat X (PDF Editor)
All applications have been freshly reinstalled with their appropriate activation keys. The machine comes ready to go with no administrative password for either operating system (Lion or Snow Leopard).
Thanks for looking and if you have any questions feel free to ask! This Mac Pro comes with a 30 day warranty against DOA.  Buy with confidence.
If you like the machine, I have a little room to work on the price if you do not want the SSD. Otherwise price is FIRM. This machine is a powerhouse!

  • Will Illustrator run on 1.8GHz quad core processor?

I am reading that Illustrator CS4 requires a 2.0GHz processor to run. I am assuming that is for a single core processor. I am considering buying a new computer running Vista 64 bit with a1.8GHz quad core processor and 4GB of RAM. Would Illustrator CS4 run ok on such a system?
    Thanks,
    Bob

I think 1400 by 900 is good since you can run many of the motion graphic programs on such a monitor.
1920 x 1200 is very good but now things have gotten to the point that they have higher resolution available.
So I recommend the highest you need. The reason i say this is that once applications are made multi core worthy  and go 64 bit it requires more resources but it will perform better and what I mean by better is not necessarily speed on any one task but the it will offer functions that are not possible on the current cpus with the current application.
It just seems to me you need a little more then what you are getting, a little more so that in the very near future you will not have to upgrade again causing you to end up paying even more that you thought you were saving.
    If you understand my logic.
Though the answer to your original question is it can probably run, how well you would probably have to tell us after you get it.

  • 2.8GHz Quad-Core Intel core i7     WILL IT WORK WITH FCP?

I am planning on purchasing the new IMAC 2.8GHz Quad-Core Intel core i7 27" screen for work with FCP. The requirements to install FCP state in relevent part:
ATI or NVIDIA graphics processor (integrated Intel Graphics processors not supported).
Does this mean that the 2.8GHz Quad-Core Intel core i7 27" screen will NOT OPERATE FCP. I know that the Quad-Core Intel i7 is an upgrade for the system should I stay with the basic NVIDIA graphics processor?

I understand there is a difference between the "graphics cards" and the Processor and Memory?
    Graphics Cards:
27-inch model with dual-core processor, one of the following:
ATI Radeon HD 4670 graphics processor with 256MB of GDDR3 memory
ATI Radeon HD 4850 graphics processor with 512MB of GDDR3 memory
    27-inch model with quad-core processor:
ATI Radeon HD 4850 graphics processor with 512MB of GDDR3 memory
I am going to purchase the quad-core processor which will come with the ATI Radeon HD 4850 processor with 512MB of GDDR3 memory
The Processor and memory according to Apple Specs are as follows:
27-inch models only, one of the following:
2.66GHz quad-core Intel Core i5 processor with 8MB shared L3 cache; Turbo Boost dynamic performance up to 3.2GHz
2.8GHz quad-core Intel Core i7 processor with 8MB shared L3 cache; Turbo Boost dynamic performance up to 3.46GHz; Hyper-Threading for up to eight virtual cores
I would like to purchase the 2.8GHz quad-core Intel core i7 processor
This is where my concern is when FCP says (integrated Intel graphics processors not supported)!

You don't see drives when using a hardware RAID only the volumes.
WD Green are not suitable for hardware RAID (or software RAID for that matter).
USB2 and TimeMachine are a disaster waiting to happen. I've used SATA (internal) and eSATA (using SATA PCIe cards) trouble-free.
I can't say I begin to understand your use or "choosing the install drive for the backup"
    Install what?
You don't load TimeMachine. Maybe seems minor but that is not how to describe the behavior of software.

  • Apple Mac Pro 2008 dual 2.8ghz quad core

    Hey guys,
Ive got a real brain teaser. I have a apple mac pro 2008 dual 2.8ghz quad core that wont boot.
The leds on the memory test good its all tested in another mac and working well.
The 9 leds are reading as follows 2nd led lit yellow. Led 9,8,7 Green- which from my research is good.
Ive also reset the cmos battery and vram, nothing.
Pulled the memory and video card and re-seated them also nothing.
The last thing i tryed was shut the computer down sit for 30 seconds then held alt and got the install mac os screen not a hard drive option.
Which leads me to think its not seeing the hard drive?
    Any suggestions?

    Starts up with fans
    Makes the apple chime
The chime is generated in software when the first portion of the power-on self test has passed.Your Mac is working and has enough working RAM memory to start up.
You still may have problems with drives, the software on those drives, or your graphics card.
    apple logo comes up
The dark gray Apple is loaded by the ROM boot loader in the first blob of software (before the file system is initialized). Its presence indicates your Mac can get some stuff off a Hard Drive, and seeing it indicates your graphic card can display something in a primitive way.
with spinning gear and just sits there for hours
It is stuck booting up something. Verbose Mode (hold Command-V at startup) will show you the parade of messages. The last five will tell you what happened.

  • 2008 8-core 2.8ghz vs 2010 2.8ghz Quad Core?

    Hey all.
I am leaning toward between these two machine.
    2008 8-core 2.8ghz
    vs
    2010 2.8ghz Quad Core
I can pick up a 2008 2.8 octo core from a friend for about half the price of the refurbished 2010 from Apple store.
I will mainly use this machine for illustrator, dreamweaver and photoshop work.
I am a graphic design / web designer.
I am pretty sure none of my software can really benefit from all 8 cores.
So will I be better off with a quad core 2010?
Can the 2010 justify twice as much in price difference?
Note: The 2008 has 16gb ram and HD5770, and in really good condition. But the 2010 has apple care and can be easily upgrade to 16gb ram for cheap.
Hopefully you guys can give me some advice
    Thank you very much

Skip the 2008. Too high cost for FBDIMMs, too many problems surfacing. 4 yrs old.
the 2010 ref'd is $1819 and lets you throw in $600 W3680 and 4x8GB and better graphics and also PCIe controllers work better as well as 64-bit mode. The 2008 was the first to get UEFI / EFI64 and you could say it needed and got a lot of improvements over the next 2-3 yrs.
If you did want more RAM the cost of 2x4GB FBDIMMs can be $300.

  • Is iMac 27" (mid 2010) Quad-Core Intel Core i7   64-bit kernel ???

    Hello,
Sorry I'm not familiar with 64-bit term and would like to know is iMac 27" (mid 2010) Quad-Core Intel Core i7 a 64-bit processor and does it support in Mac OS X?? I'm confused as I from the Apple list "Mac OS X v10.6: Macs that use the 64-bit kernel" does not have latest iMac models. I plan to buy iMac 27" Core i7 for video editing and also like to know does Final Cut support 64-bit too. Appreciate all kind advise please.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
    it's in list...
These Macs *support the 64-bit kernel*, but do not use it by default.
    *iMac (Early 2008) and later*
MacBook Pro (Early 2008) and later
The keyword is "not by default"

I am running Photoshop CC 2014 on Windows 8.1 with an AMD quad core processor and AMD E1-2100 APU with AMD Radeon HD 8210 Graphics Card. I have installed the latest driver version 13.152.0.0. When I activate puppet warp, the mesh appears over the image and I can place the first pin.  However, when I go to add the second pin, Photoshop crashes. I have tried with on a new, blank file, with just a few lines on it, but, as soon as I place the first pin, the image disappears, and then, as soon as I click anywhere else in the image, Photoshop crashes. I have followed all the online advice about settings under the Preferences/Performance interface, but nothing fixes the problem. Can anyone please help?

I have a late 2012 mac mini with an i5 2 core can I replace it with an i7 quad core?

A few places online may still offer the i7 2.3GHz quad-core Late 2012 MINI (Oct 2012 to Oct 2014)
that allows the user-upgrade of RAM to 16GB, and this one I've seen is a Server model and has
two 1-TB Hard Disk Drives. The B&H store in NY online has this listed, if in stock now, price &
shipping in continental US is good until tomorrow.
Your i5 dual-core is still desirable to many, & you may be able to resell it if not needed.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • Macbook pro 5.1 with 2.8Ghz 2 core processor 4 gb ram upgradeable?

I have a Macbook pro 5.1 with 2.8Ghz 2 core processor 4 gb ram.... is this upgradeable in terms of ram and os I currently run os x 10.6.8? ta

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
You have a Late 2008 MacBook Pro, so you can upgrade the RAM (up to 8 GB of RAM) and you can upgrade Mac OS X to OS X Mountain Lion.
If you want more memory, you can buy it at OWC or Crucial > http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/memory/Apple_MacBook_MacBook_Pro/Upgrade/DDR3 Crucial sells cheaper memory and it's also supported.
Respecting to OS X, you can use OS X Mountain Lion. If you want to upgrade, open the App Store and purchase OS X Mountain Lion. While it's being downloaded, make a backup of your files with Time Machine and check that your apps are compatible > http://www.roaringapps.com
When the download finishes, the Mountain Lion installer will appear, so follow the steps.
OS X Mavericks will be released in fall and will include new features > http://www.apple.com/osx/preview

  • The new iMac 21.5-inch Quad-Core Intel Core  i7, 3.1GHz, 8 GBSDRAM, 1 TB Fusion Drive, has Haswell processor inside ?

I want to buy for my new office, 2 pieces of iMac 21.5-inch Quad-Core Intel Core  i7, 3.1GHz
8 GBSDRAM, 1 TB Fusion Drive.
I wan to be sure 100%, that this model has inside the new fourth generation Haswell processor.
I don't find anywhere "Haswell" write in the specification.
    Please advice!

If it is a Late 2013 model it has the Haswell CPU. Right you won't but Apple only sells the latest models on the main Mac store website and all others, last year models, get move to the Refurbished area or are sold off to Apple store or Apple authorized resellers.

All Mac Pro's ever made have shipped with gigabit ethernet.  The last non-gigabit tower desktop Apple made was the very first generation PowerMac G4's back in 1999.
Similarly, all Time Capsules have been gigabit ethernet as well - never been one that was not.
