21" Display will not turn on.

The display is connected to a Mac Pro.  To see if it was the computer, I connected the Display to my Mac Book Pro and I could only hear sound, display was still off.  Any ideas?

To have your Mac adjust settings automatically, a display must answer with its name and capabilities when the Mac sends a query. The Mac sends such queries:
• at Startup,
• when you click the ( Detect Displays ) button [ try holding down Alt/Option key while viewing System Preferences > Displays] or
• when your Mac awakes from sleep.
So first set your display to the appropriate port. Next try a Restart, or Sleep and wake your Mac, or use the ( Detect Displays ) button.

  • External Display will not turn back on after sleep

Just bought a new MBP last week and gave my wife the MB. I typically attach to an external 24" display and run in closed clamshell mode. I have been doing it for quite some time with no issues. Now with the new MBP if the energy saver kicks in and turns off the display, and/or the energy saver puts the computer to sleep when I attempt to wake it up the display flashes then goes blank. There is no way to turn it back on. When I open the clamshell the internal display will only show some random pixels and a white line at the top of the screen. There is no way to correct it unless I shut down the machine.
I am running with the Nvidia card, not the internal Nvidia. If I manually put the computer to sleep it will wake normally with no screen issues. It will also not act up if the external display is not connected.
Any help or suggestions of a setting I might have wrong that would cause this?

It is a Gateway FHD2400. Connected from mini display to HDMI. My previous MB was connected to the same monitor for the last year with 0 issues. It was connected mini dvi to VGA.
The issue is strange because it only happens when the computer turns off the screen or sleep. When I put it in sleep it doesn't happen.

  • When waking up my macbook air from sleep, display will not turn back on.

My mid 2011 macbook air running lion is having some issues. The display, after the laptop has been woken up from sleep, will not come back on. The rest of the computer is fully functional as when i press the volume keys, i can hear the sound that it makes, the keyboard brightness keys also work. Theonly way i can fix this at the moment is doing a force shutdown and turning it back on again. If anyone has an answer to this it would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

Having much the same problem with my 2011 11" Air, running 10.8.2 and wondering if you ever got any resolution on this. I've had the same issues through several versions of Mountain Lion.
My display does come up, but what I see is my login screen (I have it set to require a password on wake), but with a beachball, and I can't type in the password field. I can tell that other processes are running (for instance, just now I could hear a YouTube video playing) but I can't make it respond to input.
I've also had times where I put it to sleep by closing the lid, only to come back some time later to hear the fan running and everything unresponsive.
I've reset the PRAM, reinstalled Mountain Lion, reset the SMC. I'm purposely not running a lot of extra software.
Just curious, are you using FileVault at all?

  • 23" Apple Cinema Display will not turn back on

For some reason this morning I thought I'd help the world and turned off my ACD. I'm back at the officce now and cannot turn it back on. It's been on since I bought it (yes, it goes into sleep mode when not in use) in December. In either case, is there a special trick to turning this thing back on? I tried the plug-unplug thing, I turned off and on my PC (I also use it for my g4 powerbook) to which it was connected at the time as well - nothing. Any thoughts out there?
Thanks in advance for any help,
PC Box   Windows XP   23" Apple Cinema Display, also a 12" G4 Powerbook

I am having the same issue right now. Except it has happened with my 2 monitors on my dual monitor G5 Quad set-up. Both monitors are down. I tried a different monitor in the same computer and it works fine. So I think it must be a monitor related issue.
Although, I wonder if it possible that the computer has somehow put both monitors into a "deep sleep" mode? Is there such a thing. I tried a PRAM reset that didn't help, so I'm not sure if this is the case.
Next up is to figure out some way to test the power on the 2 power adapters/transformers without electocuting myself. I have a suspicion at this point that a power surge may have killed them?
Let me know if anyone has similar scenario, and if a solution was found.

  • My display will not turn on with Mac Pro!

When I shut down from the Apple menu and wait about 15 minutes then turn back on by pushing button on front of box, the display works just fine, but if I shut down and start up in the morning I have to restart about 10 times before the screen comes up!

Well guys, I myself have this same problem.. luckily i purchased a mac pro with 2 of these 7300 cards.. so i was able to swap the cards between their respective slots... and yep, sure enough, the "supposedl" good card has the same problem when in the bottom slot.. so this problem is only shown when monitors are connected to the BOTTOM slot.. the displays seem to work ok when in the TOP slot however. But this is hardly what I call a functional system. for this much money I would tend to want it to work 100% out of the box....
The mac is now in the shop.. and frustratingly. i got a call today from them, not able to replicate this intermittent problem... so now my 1 month old mac may have to get shipped back to apple (im in switzerland, itll be shipped to ireland) for another 2 weeks of downtime.
Apple better get off their ***** and really look into this a bit deeper.. this seems to be a bit of an epidemic problem.

  • My Thunderbolt Display will not turn on.

I'm using a Mid 2012 Macbook Pro and just recently updated the OS X to 10.8.2. It was working great before this update, however, I cannot get it to link anymore. This is a critical problem as I'm a graphic designer and working on a small 13" screen makes it nearly impossible to get anything done! Please help!

Sometimes I run into this issue and figure out that I didn't connect MBA or MBP to power supply. You might want to check that.

  • TS3474 The ipod display will not orient when turn...picture will move when turned.  Thank you.

I've reset the ipod nano..downloaded the software again and still the display will not turn when the ipod is turned.  I don't know what else to do.  Does this ipod need to be sent back to Apple?  It's 6 months old.  Any other suggestions?  It's a 6th generation nano bought as a bundle with a armband and changer for Christmas 2011from Best Buy.

So you placed two fingers such as your thumb and index finger in a pinchlike fashion on the Nano's display and turned them clockwise and counterclockwise and nothing happened?
If so, you have a hardware issue, meaning you'll want to have the iPod serviced or replaced.

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iPod fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

    Hi there dworthen,
It sounds like you are experiencing issues when trying to rotate your display. I would recommend taking a look at the troubleshooting steps found in the article below.

I dropped my iPhone 4s and the back cracked and it now will not turn on. I was wondering if anyone could give me an estimated price to fix it. And I do have insurance on it with best buy. I'm on Verizon's phone plan so I don't know if it would be cheaper to have it fixed with Best Buy or Verizon. I cracked my iPod a little bit ago and got a refurbished one for free with the insurance on it but I don't now if it would be different because it is a phone. I don't know really anything about this stuff so any information that could possibly help me is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

That's only for the iPhone 5. On the 4 and 4S, they can repair the back glass in store for $30. They will not replace the display on a 4 or 4S. They must replace the entire phone. Replacing the display on them requires disassembling the entire phone, which they will not do in store.

  • My ipod nano 6th generation will not turn on.

My iPod nano (6th generation) will not turn on. I have charged it (attached to my computer) for 30 minutes. I have tried to reset it (held down Wake and Volume Down for 8 seconds)- no response. I have factory restored it (through iTunes)- no response. It shows up as connected to my computer and will sync in iTunes, but the display on the iPod will not turn on. Any ideas?

    Hey s.mccarter2010,
Thanks for the question. After reviewing your post, it sounds like you have tried a lot of things and the iPod still will not turn on. I would recommend that you read this article, it may be able to help you resolve or isolate the issue.
    iPod won't turn on
If you have tried the solutions above and iPod still won't turn on, check the following:
Make sure iPod is the only device in your FireWire or USB chain. Disconnect everything but the mouse, keyboard, and your iPod, then see if it will turn on.
Make sure you are using the FireWire or USB cable that came with your iPod, and that the cable is in good condition.
Try connecting iPod to the built-in port of a different computer to see if that works. Note: If using a portable computer, make sure it is plugged in to a power source and that the lid or display is open. If the lid is closed the computer may go into either standby, sleep, or hibernation mode and iPod will not charge properly.
If you still can't turn iPod on after performing these steps, it may need to be repaired. You can arrange for repair at the iPod Service Website.
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
    Have a nice day,
    Mario
