22.1 GB of Other - what is this?

After recently upgrading to iOS5, I did not get any of my music back on my iPhone 4. In looking at iTunes I see 22.1GB of other. What is this and how do I get rid of it? Before the upgrade I had my entire music library on my 32GB iPhone. Now it looks like something has consumed all of my free space. How do I find out what this is and remove it?

I updated the software for my 8G Ipod Touch 4th Generation on Saturday morning and have had nothing but problems. At first it would not let me get past the setup portion for Wi Fi which I do not have. Then after fussing with it for about an hour I was able to start listening to my music. But I noticed I am unable to load as much music as the past. I have found that out of my 6.35 GB (instead of 8 that I bought) there is now 2.7GB of Other which takes away over a third of my storage. Does anyone know what this is and how to remove it?

The excessive "other" is due to some files that got corrupted during the update. You need to restore the iPod to get it reduced to its normal (<0.5 GB) value. Firs try restoring from backup. If not successful, restore to factory defaults/new iPod.

Apple TV says 27 Gigs full of "Other" what is this?

My apple TV says it has 27 Gigs (of 32) of "other" on it but I can not find out what this "other" stuff is.
I do not have any photos, music, movies or anything on my apple TV. I have also gone to all the tabs and un-synched EVERYTHING (nothing shows up on my apple TV when I turn it on). Does anyone know what the other stuff could be? Because right now I can't buy any movies, rent anything etc. from my apple TV because there is no space. I have to download it onto my computer and synch it which is a pain.

I would probably suggest backing up them photos to your computer and then performing a restore on the phone which will wipe everything off and start again.

You have corrupted files that are now in the "other" category. To reduce the "other", you need to restore the iPod. Usually restoring from backup works.

When in the itunes program I can be moving around in my library and itunes
when choosing a song or songs, choosing file, edit, etc,. whatever command I
choose it just suddenly stops. I can issue five commands and watch each one
respond in 30 second to two minute intervals. I can issue several commands,
even shutting down, and it will do all but takes several minutes to do so.
My itunes program was working fine when this problem suddenly arose.

Click here and follow the instructions. You may need to completely remove and reinstall iTunes and all related components, or run the process multiple times; this won't normally affect its library, but that should be backed up anyway.

If it's a one-time "glitch," you can try restarting your computer with the iPod still connected. Try ejecting again after the restart.
If the problem recurs, you may have a process running (other than iTunes) that is accessing the iPod's storage. When connected, the iPod's "disk" is like other mounted volumes. This process may be some type of utility that continously monitors your mounted volumes for security reasons, such as to prevent access by malware.
If you know of such a program that you have running in the background, there may be a setting to exclude your iPod's disk.
