23.976 fps and exporting to film ...

dear all ...
i have a project that shot on RED with 23.976 fps ... the final out put will be to film ... so what is the right workflow to do so? can i work directly on this frame rate or i should convert to 24 fps? or i just export to DPX with 24 fps settings? if i want to convert 23.976 fps footage to 24 fps, what should i do? just use interpret footage?
thanks for co-operation

> if i want to convert 23.976 fps footage to 24 fps, what should i do? just use interpret footage?
If you interpret a 23.976fps movie as a 24.000fps movie, then it will play 0.1% faster, but the images will all be original frames (as opposed to retiming the movie such that it plays at the same rate but with interpolated image information to fill in the in-between frames).
That is often fine. You'd need to make sure to retime your audio by the same amount.

  • Error in Preview Window and exported project/film

    Hi!
Everything is fine in the canvas window of my Motion1, but the project windows showing up all destroyed, also the exported clip.
It has nothing to do with my files. Even when I open a layout from motion, in the project window, each little file shows up destroyed. But not in the canvas, where everything is fine.
I reinstalled the quicktime related .pkg files and motion. Running a ati radeon 9800, which I guess might be damaged, or does anybody has another idea?

don't have any suggestions, but sounds similar to my problem...

meanwhile after reinstalling motion I cannot do the motion update...... an error occurs...
I think there might be some 10.4.4/motion conflicts on my powerbook...

  • Sequence w 23.976 fps exporting as h.264 QT with 22.69fps

I exported an h.264 QuickTime from Premiere Pro CC (Mac).  The project/sequence was set to 23.976 fps.  The export settings for the QuickTime was also set to 23.976 fps. However, the QuickTime that was created had a frame rate of 22.69fps.  I have never had an issue like this before.
I had Premiere add the QuickTime to the project on export.  That QuickTime file displayed 23.976 fps in the Premiere Pro Project Panel.  However, the same QuickTime is showing as 22.69fps on the QuickTime inspector in QuickTime, as well as a third party application.
The odd thing is, after several attempts with the above set up, sometimes the exported QuickTime has the correct frame rate of 23.976 fps and sometimes the exported QuickTime has a frame rate of 22.69fps (incorrect), so it is not consistent.
I have reported this issue to Adobe. The Adobe tech, via a screen sharing session, also noticed this inconsistency first-hand and agreed there was an issue of some kind.
Does anyone have any ideas what could be going on?

    You're using QuickTime.  It's buggy.

  • No sync with audio for input files AVI MPEG4 23.976 fps

No sync with audio for input files AVI MPEG4 23.976 fps.
If i open in Premiere Pro CC any file AVI MPEG4 23.976 fps (with internal audio MP3 or AC3) i got growing out of sync from start to end of file, even while play it at internal media player of Premiere Pro CC for source file.
Using external audio files AC3 or MP3 not help.
In properties of source file i see 23.97 fps instead of 23.976 fps, and time of internal file is wrong.
If i try Clip > Modify > Interpreter Footage > custom settings to 23.976 time i see right time, but when i click "OK", custom fps saved as 23.98 fps instead of 23.976 fps and time of source goes wrong again.
So i always get bad sync such files in Premiere Pro CC while play or export them.
But in all media players, other editors, and in PluralEyes sync OK with all such files.
If i open M2TS or MP4 (H264 23.976 fps) source file, all OK, it it shows as 23.976 fps, time is right, and sync OK.
So i want to add automatic detection 23.976 fps instead of 23.97 fps for source AVI files with 23.976 fps.
    Is it possible?

Yes, i know what XviD and DivX does not edit well in Premiere Pro. And because of that i create this topic "No sync with audio for input files AVI MPEG4 23.976 fps" and was hoping to get help in solving the problem, rather than stating that the problem really is.
XviD and DivX it is MPEG4.
Xvid (formerly "XviD") is a video codec library following the MPEG-4 standard, specifically MPEG-4 Part 2 Advanced Simple Profile (ASP).
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xvid
I have many old useful materials in XviD and DivX formats, and have no other formats versions for that material.
XviD and DivX are very compact formats to store video at acceptable quality and it is fully compatible with all players and editors for PC except Premiere Pro.
You suggest to convert them to another format (DV) to make compatible with Premiere Pro... It is not what i want.
    Let me explaine:
    1) Size of files
uploaded AVI XviD 1280x720 file with very good quality have size 1.9Gb (with audio AC3 2.0). If i convert it via VirtualDub from "AVI XviD" to AVI DVCPRO HD 1280x720 (without audio) it have size 35Gb, and quality is worst than at XviD-HD, and also converting take much time.
    2) Compatibility with AC3 and MP3 audio inside AVI
AVI DV / AVI DVCPRO not compatible with AC3 and MP3 audio inside, only with PCM
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DV
AVI XviD and DivX can use AC3, MP3, OGG audio without any problems.
    Size of 1Hour 30Min "AC3 Stereo 48kHz 16bit 384Kbps" file is 257Mb
    Size of 1Hour 30Min "PCM Stereo 48kHz 16bit" file is 1030Mb
    3) I have and use hardware H264 encoder card "Matrox CompressHD" for export my material
    http://www.matrox.com/video/en/products/compresshd/specs/
This card works only from Adobe Premiere Pro, so i can not use it from VirtualDub or other editing software.
So i need a full compatibility Adobe Premiere Pro with all popular standard formats of input files.
    Here we see:
    http://www.adobe.com/products/premiere/extend.html#Supportedvideoformats
    Supported video formats:
"Adobe Premiere Pro CC leads the industry with incredible, thorough native media support, meaning you can edit virtually all of the major video, image, and audio formats natively without waiting."
As most PC users knows, AVI XviD it is a very popular free video format, and would be very useful if Adobe will make normal compatibility with that format in Premiere Pro.

  • Using Movie Score and Exporting to iweb

    Hi all
I had previously editing with imovie, and exported the film to iweb no problem, just dragging into the iweb movie page. Now I'm gone over to adding sound effects and music in garageband ("movie score") and have nearly completed the project. I may be being very dim, but I am having problems exporting the film now in a way that iweb likes. I went to Preferences, and changed the export settings, and one time it came out really low quality, the next I got a warning the film would be too big for many web viewers.
Is there an easy, foolproof way to export, like in imovie? Thanks in advance. Hope question makes sense.
    Ed

Just export from FCP via Compressor (FILE>EXPORT). Choose QUICKTIME 7 STREAMING. Bring this into iWeb.

  • Can You Edit And Export 60 fps Video With iMovie 10.0.5?

So the new iPhone 6 and 6 Plus let you shoot video at 60 fps, right?
Well, my question is, can iMovie 10.0.5 for the Mac let you actually edit and export this video, maintaining its 60 fps frame rate?

I posted what I found to this thread iMovie 11 10.14 Exporting a 60fps file to Maverick?
    Hope you find it helpful.

  • Exporting (in H.264 format in HD 720p 23.976 preset) and audio comes out separate while video file is a .m4v instead of .mp4

    Using Premier Pro CC 2014.
Exporting (in H.264 format in HD 720p 23.976 preset) and audio comes out separate while video file is a .m4v instead of .mp4.
Anybody know why audio and video are exporting separately? I can't figure out why. Help is much appreciated.

Thank you for the quick response. Unfortunately, that doesn't fix it.
I have the same issue when I try to export it through Adobe Media Encoder. I even tried to go through using After Effects and export through Adobe Media Encoder with the same results. I'm wondering if I might be better off uninstalling then reinstalling all my adobe programs.

  • Lumia 800 and 23.976 FPS MP4 - Playback Issue

Quite lately, I have been wondering, if I should bring up this issue or not. Thought, what the hell - lets pen it down anyway.
So here's the deal, I have a lot of 720P DTS/DD HD movies which I generally re-encode to H.264 lower bit rates (1500 to 2000 kbps) and  Audio to AAC and finally MUX them in MP4 (sounds terrible right !). The resultant file plays fine on VLC, HOWEVER, its terribly laggy/jerky on Lumia 800.
After a lot of hit and trial, I found a workaround though : Mux the H.264 Video stream @ 25 fps and Speed up the Audio from 23.976 to 25. Now the movie playback on Lumia is tolerable but not that smooth.
My N8 can play 23.976 Movies just fine. Now the Question - Why is Lumia 800 not able to playback the most widely used 23.976 framerate encoded movies and why I have to increase the FPS (to 25) in order to achive a decent playback.
PS: Movies which are @ 30 fps has absolutely brilliant playback on Lumia, though. But unfortunately, we cannot speedup 23.976 to 30, coz speeding up the Audio to 30 framerate makes the audio sound terrible and cartoonish.
EDIT : Let's make it more clear. The culprit is not 720p. I even tried resizing the video to 800x450 (Progressive) and keeping the original framerate to 23.976.The playback is still noticeably jerky. So the culprit is definitely the framerate.
    Cheers !!

@ noenid : Hey buddy... Still stuck with the playback issue.. I realized that long back and am glad that I finally gave up on Nokia. Few weeks back I just bought Sony Xperia Z. Now that's what a "smartphone" should be... Its almost impossible to find something that the "Z DOESN'T DO"...
Maybe Nokia can convince Microsoft to re-design the Windows Phone OS and bring it at part with other OS. I really don't know why Microsoft chose to go the "Apple Way"... They may say "Security" >> to which I say "**bleep**"....
And why do I say **bleep** ?? Depite all the security and locked OS API's, I still don't see any substantial acceptance of Windows Phone OS in Business community... Android on the other hand, was highly criticized for being "vulnerable" >> But look around man... Almost every banking / IT / Financial Sector have their apps on it.. I really don't want Windows Phone OS to roll-over and die...
As they say: You can fool me once, but not twice...

  • Why Does Premiere CS6 Output 29.97fps when Encoding to 23.976 fps?

My project is XDCam EX, 23.976 fps. I exported to DVD MPEG and both VLC and Windows Explorer details report 29.97fps file format.
I downloaded the latest updates two days ago. Just wondering why the encoder refuses to leave 23.976fps footage and project alone and convert it to 29.97? Render settings are clearly 23.976fps. Bug?

i didn't read the forum i linked, so yes, i was wrong in the way adobe converts it to 29.97, pulldown vs added frame.  the output file will be reported as 29.97, but mediainfo can see the flags and reports it as 23.976 with 2:3 pulldown.  when i look at the .m2v file from premiere, frame by frame i can see the two interlaced frames from pulldown. so are those true interlaced frames or does the media player program generate those interlaced frames as a result of the flag telling it to?
Telecine - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
    Wiki:
Reverse telecine (a.k.a. inverse telecine (IVTC), reverse pulldown)
Some DVD players, line doublers, and personal video recorders are designed to detect and remove 2:3 pulldown from telecined video sources, thereby reconstructing the original 24 frame/s film frames. This technique is known as “reverse” or “inverse” telecine. Benefits of reverse telecine include high-quality non-interlaced display on compatible display devices and the elimination of redundant data for compression purposes.
my understanding is the interlaced frames are real. it is 29.97fps, with 2 of 5 as interlaced. the reverse pulldown reconstructs a single frame from the two interlaced, dropping the fps to the original 24p. is this not the case with adobe's pulldown?

  • Mixing Frame Rates and Creating Old Film Look?

Hello, I'm working with AVCHD footage which is 59.94 fps and have made my sequence settings at this frame rate. I've dragged in a few clips 23.98fps, 24fps, 25fps and 29.97fps, I'm attempting to give it a old film look so was going to render out at 14 fps as this is what 8mm is filmed at, I've never worked with mixed rates so any advice as to whether this is going to work? Should I have my sequence setting at my highest frame rate and the majority of the video is 59.94fps? would it work exporting at 14 or 16 fps?

I've never worked with mixed frame rates, but for the old film look, I like the Posterize Time effect set to 18 (one of the two standards for Super 8 that my camera had) and use Magic Bullet Misfire.

  • Render and EXport

I have just shot a Documentary on Sony cybershot HD digital camera The resolution is 1280 x 720, 29 FPS, MP4 format...When for the first time i imported the clips from the camera to FCP, then when I dragged them into the timeline it showed me the message clips setting doesnt match sequence want to change the settings to match? Thus to avoid Rendering lots of clips I didnt match the Setting and completely edited the movie....Now when I exported the movie....after each transitions or scene change in the movie Blurring occurs(Frames are dropping)...so now what should I do so that this doesnt occur which Settings should I use for the documentary??? Which setting for e.g DV PAL 24, DVDPRO, HDDVDPRo,etc....there are lots of options like this.....so which of this format should I use....??? I just want documentary to played in media players and played in Film festivals. Resolution I require is 24 FPS and PAL and AVI Format ...Also Do i need to Render the complete movie and then Export????? I have only got 2 days to complete...Urgent help required...Thanks in Advance....

Thanks Shane for the reply...thanks a lot...fine I shall make self contained file and use compressor to convert it...but before that as I told in my question...
"When for the first time i imported the clips from the camera to FCP, then when I dragged them into the timeline it showed me the message clips setting doesnt match sequence want to change the settings to match? Thus to avoid Rendering lots of clips I didnt match the Setting and completely edited the movie...."
So now the red line isnt appearing....so now do i need to render the whole movie in timeline or not neccesary???
I just rendered the transitions and some fx's that I used not the complete clip.....
Sorry I might be asking same question again and again...Newbie in this field so....:)

  • Combining 60 fps and 24 fps footage in one project

I've got a unique and confusing problem. I am trying to make a video that has a small amount of 60 fps played back at normal speed, soap opera effect and all, placed inside of a normal 23.976 fps project (full of primarily 23.976 fps footage).
I can hear you asking "why on Earth would you want to do such a thing?!" The video project is actually designed to be an explanation and demonstration of why and how higher frame rates look the way they do, a sort of explainer on how our eyes and brains process them, etc., so I need a bit of shiny soap opera stuff, just not the whole vid, because yuck.
The final destination for this project is YouTube, which now offers 60 fps uploads, so my final export would be at 60fps. If I shoot the rest of my stuff at 23.976, how can I combine the two so the normal stuff looks normal in a 60 fps export, and the 60 fps stiff looks shiny? If I drop 23.976 into a 60 fps project/export, won't it get choppy as hell in the final export?
I've got access to PP and AE CS6 and/or CC to get the job done.
