23" HD cinema and firewire camera without g5

just wondering if it's at all possible to play video directly from the camera through firewire into the 23" HD display and not have it go through the computer? thanks.

Yes, I love the MXO; I've had it since last summer, and yes there is play through with it; you plug the box into the second port on your mac's video card, and the display (I have the ACD 23") into the MXO box. There are also SDI and analog component outs, so you can view things on a regular CRT monitor. I like this setup; I can monitor HD in full res on the ACD, and letterboxed SD on my Sony CRT, which is great since most of my HDV projects end up on SD DVD.
As far as playing through the Matrox before capturing, though; no. It is output only. Depending on your camera, you might be able to watch uncaptured footage from the camera via HDMI out into an HDTV. If both are Sonys, you can use iLink (firewire). I sometimes connect my V1U to my Sony SXRD TV via iLink; I can watch and listen full screen through the firewire cable.

  • There is some tool in labview to control a FireWire camera without any hardware?

I have a Thorlabs FireWire camera and I want it to control with LabView. I have the complete version of the LabView 8.2 proffesional edition. Well I don't want to buy more hardware so I need a tool included in the LabView proffesional system.
    Thank you for your support

    Hi Lamas,
The Vision Acquisition Software is not included in the LabVIEW packages. If you are looking to acquire, save and display images using IEEE 1394 cameras (Firewire), you will need the NI Vision Acquisition Software and if you need image processing functions and display tools, I recommend having a look at NI Vision Development Module.

  • Macbook and firewire camera

    hi,
on my old powerbook i had a firewire lead from sony pd150 into powerbook, now i dont have the correct in socket on new macbook pro, i have a firewire in but different type (not sure its name) which i use to connect an external seagate drive...
the seagate doesn't have the right input either for my camera to mac firewire lead , how so i get my camera attached to any of these devices?

Hi JulesTV, welcome to Apple Discussions!
The Firewire products that you currently have utilize Firewire 400, which is the older Firewire standard. Since the new unibody MacBook Pros, Apple has adopted Firewire 800 exclusively, which is twice as fast as the old Firewire 400 standard. The good news is that Firewire 800 is completely backwards compatible! All you need is an inexpensive adaptor or a Firewire 800 to Firewire 400 cable and you will be able to connect your Firewire 400 devices to your new MacBook Pro.
Firewire cables come with three different types of leads. A 9-pin lead is used on the new Firewire 800 cables. 6-pin and 4-pin leads are used on Firewire 400 cables. Often, the 4-pin leads are used on digital camcorders, but I have seen some that use 6-pin leads as well. What you will need to determine is whether your camera uses the 4-pin or 6-pin Firewire 400 lead, and then purchase the correct cable.
HERE is an example of a Firewire 800 (9-pin) to Firewire 400 (6-pin) cable.
HERE is an example of a Firewire 800 (9-pin) to Firewire 400 (4-pin) cable.
You can look at the high resolution images on that site of the ends of the cables to determine which is the correct one for your purposes. The good news is that they are very inexpensive!
Good luck and post back if you require additional clarification!

  • Firewire camera not found in MAX on Windows 7

    Hi all,
Used to run a firewire camera on Windows XP with no problems. Using version 8.6 and do not want to change this if at all possible. New lab PC runs windows 7 and firewire camera not found in NI MAX. The drivers associated with the camera are NI-IMAQdx IIDC...
NI-MAX does not even show a NI-IMAQdx camera and there is no way to add such a camera. The same issue arises for an AVT Guppy camera suggesting it is not camera dependent.
Has anyone any suggestions as how to rectify this. We have full development software v8.6 with all the appropriate drivers and modules required as it previously ran problem free on an XP machine.
    Cheers,
    leeser

    Hi Leeser,
Which version of the driver did you previously have installed under Windows XP? It would be worth trying to re-install the latest version of the NI-IMAQdx driver. You will be able to install the Vision Acquisition Software 08.2010, which works with LabVIEW 8.5 and later (and installs NI-IMAQdx 3.7).

  • Using Flash Media Live Encoder with a camera without FireWire

    Hi,
Right now we have beeing using an old DV tape based camera connected to Flash Media Live Encoder via FireWire for live streaming.
We are looking at getting either an Sony AX2000 or HXR-NX5U camera as they are flash based. Unfortunately, they don't have FireWire ports.I image that I would not be able to stream via USB, but I'm not sure if anyone is familar with either of these cameras.
Does anyone know of any posisble way (ideally without new equipment) that this would work?
    Ports on the HXR-NX5U
Audio Out      RCA type (CH-1, CH-2)
Component Out     RCA type (x3) via A/V multi connector
Composite Video Out     RCA type (x1)
    S-Video Out     N/A (optional VMC-15FS is required.)
    SDI Out     BNC (x1)
    HD-SDI/SD-SDI selectable
    USB     Mini-B (x1)
    Thank you for your help!

    Hi there,
You may be able to take the RCA connection out of the new camera and put it in to your old DV camera if it has the avaliable inputs?
Also, USB is sometimes used for video so I woul have a look around for some info about it with your camera.
failing that your best bet would be to either buy a cheap Aanlog to Digital Concerter (ADC) that takes in composite and firewire on the RCAs. this woul mean that you are using the lowest quality and resolution that is avaliabe to you though!
You could stump up of an SDI or HDSDI input from the likes of AJA or Blackmagic. this would also give you the digitised XLR audio inputs
    Hope this helps!

  • What is wrong with my 30" Cinema Display?  The USB and FireWire ports still work, but the screen is pitch black. When you plug it into the computer, it detects that it's a Cinema Display.

When you plug it into the computer, it detects that it's a Cinema HD but the screen is pitch black.
For some reason, the USB and FireWire ports still work.

If you shine a really bright light directly into the screen can you then see a faint image on the screen? If so, that would indicate the backlight has died (hardware failure) and the unit needs repairing.

Verify that the display’s USB and FireWire cables are firmly plugged in to the
computer. Do they show in your profiler?
Try different ports in the computer.
Verify that your computer ports are working with other known problem free device.

  • Problem:Imported video is choppy and then camera stops playing

I'm using a Sony DCR-HC96 connected to my Macbook, tried both Imovie HD and Imovie 08 and I have the same problem. When I try to import the video, the playback from the camera is very choppy, and after a few seconds the camera stops playing. If I just play the camera without importing, the footage is good. Sometimes the choppy-ness is right away and other times i will be able to import a few minutes and it starts again...
Addendum: Just realized I posted this in the Imovie 11 forum. My Bad, as the saying goes..I will post it in the Imovie 08 as well.

As the drive fills and you're going farther and farther into the disk it gets more and more problematic. When the drive is empty you're writing on the outer portion of the disc. The more it fills, the disk area gets narrower and narrower and slower and slower compared to the outer portion. USB drives that deliver information in bursts have more problems with this than drives that have sustained throughput like FireWire. For video, which requires sustained data delivery, this can be a problem. Depending on the computer and how full its drive is you can sometimes get better performance with DV capturing to the internal. It might be worth a try.

  • M-Audio 1814 and FireWire 800

I am working on a MBP and Logic 8, using the Vienna Symphonic Library on external hard drives, one 250 GB LaCie, the second a 500 GB Maxtor. When I use the external hard drives with FireWire 800 first the Audio Interface starts clicking, using Logic 8 the system crashes seriously. If I use the FireWire Hub on the back of my Cinema Display, the 1814 is not recognized.
For the use of the VI-Library I need fast hard drives, the CPU seems not to be the problem. Why I cannot use FireWire 400 (Audio Interface) and Firewire 800 hard drives?

Thank you Chris, I just wonder why Bee Jay can use the HD FW800 with the M-Audio Firewire interface without problems.
I use the ext HD for backup too, but sometimes I need to find something in my backups and I have to turn off the audio interface and copy the files on my internal HD ... then turn off the drive again and turn on the M-Audio ... it's very annoying.
In some forum I read that the problem can be the firewire chipset, but my iMac has the Lucent and the MacBook Pro has the TI (reccomended by M-Audio) ... same problem on both machines.
    I did some test:
    1) If I use the FW800 external HD and the FW400 with iMovie and my Video Camcorder I have no problem at all. I tried to use the HD at maximum (during a time machine backup I was copying other files and saving the HDV files in the same external HD) and everything works perfectly without loosing a single frame.
    2) If I connect the HDV camcorder to the M-Audio interface I cannot even start the capture ... I have to turn off the external FW800 HD.
It looks that the problem is definitely in the M-Audio Firewire driver but unfortunatley the M-Audio e-mail support is only for US customers ... and I'm Italian.
Is there any US customer that has this problem and can insist with the M-Audio support?
Maybe they can solve it in the next release ...
    Thank you in advance.

  • Presenter 8 crashes after connecting external Firewire cam

    Good day,
We often organize workshops and conferences which I sometimes record with an external camera for later reference by our own staff or to make them available to clients who couldn't attend the presentations.
For a long time I was looking for a tool to synchronise PowerPoint slides with spoken recorded comment (audio/video), since I don't believe in just making slides available to people who couldn't attend the presentation, without the spoken comments of the speaker.
I also believe in slides with as less text as possible, but more with images, schemes and animations to support the speaker's message. But in such a case, the spoken comment is an essential part of the presentation to get the message, since the slides as-such alone don't tell enough.
I installed the trial version of Adobe Presenter 8 to test its suitability for our company marketing and presentation needs.
Adobe Presenter 8 seems to work perfect to synchronise Powerpoint slides and screen actions, together with video recorded by an external webcam, connected via USB to my notebook or via the internal webcam in my notebook.
However, I also want to record presentations, presented in our auditorium and meeting rooms and I want to synchronise in realtime (= during the actual presentation) the Powerpoint slides together with the video/audio from the speaker.  The realtime option avoids the work of recording the speaker on tape or in an MPG or FLV during the actual presentation, uploading the A/V file to my PC and doing the PowerPoint/audio/video synchronisation work afterwards by going through the whole presentation again.
To record the video I therefore use an external semi-pro videocamera (JVC DV-500), since this gives me better possibilities to frame the right image, zoom in/out, better lens, etc ...  in comparison with an ordinary webcam.  The JVC DV-500 can be connected to a computer via a Firewire I/F.
This always worked perfect when we recorded and streamed video/audio using Adobe Flash Media Live Encoder 3.2.  Adobe Flash Encoder recognizes the via FireWire connected external cam without a problem.
But, when using Adobe Presenter 8 within PowerPoint 2010 to start recording a presentation, and when I switch on the power switch on the external JVC-cam, Adobe Presenter 8 crashes, showing an error "Application encountered an internal error ... report to product support forums, etc ..." and "Adobe-Pr-VC.exe doesn't work anymore", and creating some error log and dump-files on my notebook.
After switching off the external cam and keeping it switched off, and manually deleting in Task Manager still running instances of Presenter-software (Adobe_Pr_VC.exe), and restarting PowerPoint, everything works well again with the USB or internal webcam.
Already deleted Presenter from my notebook, cleaned up registry with CCleaner, reinstalled Presenter, but error keeps on coming back.
Someone any ideas what causes this error?
Software conflict, driver conflict, Adobe Presenter incompatible with external A/V devices, no support of FireWire I/F, ... ?
    Configuration:
    Fujitsu notebook LifeBook T5010
    Windows 7 Pro SP1  32-bit (Dutch version)
Microsoft Office 2010 Pro Plus (Dutch version)
    Creative webcam connected via USB
External JVC DV-500 videocamera connected via build-in Firewire I/F
Firewire driver was installed by Windows automatically when connecting the cam (msdv.sys 6.1.7600.16385)
The only other real-time encoding software installed is Adobe Flash Media Live encoder 3.2.
Some other usual Adobe stuff (flash player, shockwave player, AIR, reader X, )
The possibility of connecting an external cam to record the speaker and synchronise the PowerPoint and/or screen actions in realtime, would greatly enhance our work.
    Thanks,

    Hi,
started Presenter's Video Creator in troubleshoot mode with external Firewire connected cam switched off.
    1. Video Creator started in troubleshoot mode (got the 'troubleshoot' message)
    2. default active cam was the USB webcam (HD screen, SD cam)
    3. started recording
    4. everything worked normal
    5. stopped recording
Result looked fine. Got the normal troubleshoot message, asking to send log files.  Did not do this, since there was no error at this time.
Then repeated the process with exteral FireWire cam.
    1. Video Creator started in troubleshoot mode
    2. default active cam was the USB webcam (HD screen, SD cam)
    3. powered on external JVC camera connected to the notebook via FireWire
    4. Video Creator crashed after windows detected (beep sound) an active appliance on the FireWire port.
Could not even stop recording with Video Creator in a normal way to go to the "send error log to Adobe" procedure.
Instead got a box with the message: "Applications encountered an internal error. If the problem persists, please report on product support forums or contact the support team."
Had to shut down Adobe_Pr_VC.exe manually in Task Manager.
Tried the same procedure with another FireWire appliance, a DV video recorder with a tape of a previously recorded conference session.
Same error, as soon as I powered on the videorecorder, and Windows detected (beep sound) an active appliance on the FireWire port, Video Creator crashed with the same error message as above.
I can't go through the whole workflow to send the error logs to Adobe, since Video Creator crashes from the moment the power of a FireWire appliance is switched on.
No possibility to stop recording in a normal way (SHIFT-END or clicking the icon in system tray).
Had to manually shut down Adobe_Pr_VC.exe in Task Manager again.
Tried again with Adobe Flash Media Live Encorder 3.2 to see how this application reacts, to be sure there is nothing wrong with my notebook or the Windows O/S.
    1. started Flash Media Encoder with external FireWire cam switched off
    2. saw 2 active devices : build in Sirius webcam and external USB Creative webcam
    3. saw image of my webcam in the encoder monitor windows
    4. switched on power on external JVC camera, connected via FireWire
    5. Flash Media Encoder immediatelly recognized "Microsoft DV Camera and VCR". Selected this and image of external cam was shown in the encoder monitor windows.
    6. Could stream FireWire cam image to an external streaming service without a problem.
Conclusion:  a FireWire connected cam does work with other Adobe software. Must be something wrong in the Video Creator software.
Sorry I can't send you the log files, since app in both normal and troubleshoot mode crashes prematurely.
Hope my explanation helps you a bit to find a solution.
    Regards,
    Patrick

  • 10.5.6 and firewire (DV)

Hello, (i'm french, please excuse my "english")
I've got a JVC DV cam and a macbook. I know that my camera is compatible, that my firewire link is new, and when I plug the whole thing to my macbook, impossible to import from imovie (I can only see my isight).
So, I have a look on system information, (firewire), and I also can't see my JVC. I know that my *firewire port is not burned* (cause I can use a firewire DVD writer whthout any pb). I already used my JVC with that macbook (not with that version of imovie, but the pb seems not to come from imovie), and under leopard (but not this version, probably). *In fact, I'm sure it comes from the system update.*
    What I've already tried :
    - keep out the battery 5 minutes
    - change the order of boot (JVC and macbook) (but I've always plugged my firewire disks and so on with my mac on, without any pb)
    - repair the authorizations
It's silly, cause I already ask for it a year ago (with 10.5.2, I think), found the good answer, but I can't remeber where and what it was...
    Bonjour,

Firewire works fine with my 10.5.6.
Do you set your camera to the "VCR" mode and have it plugged into electric power while trying ?
If your problem persists although you use the EXACT process that worked previously, try this:
     • Download http://support.apple.com/downloads/MacOS_X_10_5_6_ComboUpdate
but do not install it yet.
     • Disconnect all Firewire devices and restart your Mac done
     • Repair permissions done
     • Apply the 10.5.6 Combo Updater done
     • Immediately after the restart that finishes the update, repair permissions again done
     • Connect your JVC and test to see if the problem is solved *done, no change, my JVC does neither appear in info system and of course neither in imovie or other softwares like skype, quicktime...*
     • If so, reconnect your other Firewire devices (if any) and test again *done, and no problem, my other FW device, a HD for exemple, appears in info system and mounts*
     • If the problem returns when you have more than one FW device connected
but works properly when it is the only FW device connected to your Mac,
you may need to keep the others disconnected while downloading from JVC. *I've only one FW device connected (directly) on my macbook at the same time.*
    I*t still does not work*

  • Is it safe to plug and unplug USB and Firewire cables with the computers on

Is it safe to plug and unplug USB and Firewire cables with the computers on? I have a Mac G4 and a newly purchased IMac and I use one printer for both computers. Should I shut down the computers when I unplug the printer and connect to the other computer? How about when switching firewire drives.
Is there an easy way to have both computers connected to the same printer? I have an Epson 1280 printer.

USB/Firewire ports were designed to be "hot" plugged. You can safely plug and unplug devices without usually having to shut down the computer or the device. Some devices, such as external HDs, digital cameras and iPods need to be "ejected" first, so as not to damage their formatting or data.
You can network your Macs wirelessly or with an ethernet cable and then set the printer connected to one computer to be shared with the other computer.
    Here are a couple of links;
