23" HD cinema display power button with 2010 MacBook Pro

The power button on my 23" HD cinema display (clear enclosure) doesn't turn on my 2010 MacBook Pro. I don't use both screens at once much and would like to leave the laptop shut. Is there a workaround?

Thanks! I found I can also start up, close the lid (and sleep), then just click to wake the machine.

  • How Can I Get an 23" Cinema Display to work with a MacBook Pro 15"?

    A 23" Cinema Display (M8536) will not display with and adapter connected to a MacBook Pro 15" (mid 2010). Adapter used is Apple Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI Adapter. What's wrong?

    They removed the audio input, starting from your model, you will need an USB interface, there are may, and it depends on how high of quality you need.
    This works for most applications, unless you are trying to record "music quality"

  • CAN CINEMA DISPLAY BE USED WITH LATEST MACBOOK PRO?

    I'm considering buying the newest 15" macbook pro and using it formy desktop and mobile computer. I use a 27" cinema display. My"computer guy" said that the current macbook pro i have (the modelbefore this latest one) could not handle being plugged into a cinemadisplay because the graphics card was not powerful enough. Does anyoneknow if these latest models can be used with a cinema display?

    If it uses ADC
    <http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/0/09/AppleDisplayConnector.j pg/800px-AppleDisplayConnector.jpg>
    you will need a DVI to ADC adapter

    and a Mini DisplayPort or HDMI to DVI adapter.  (The Mac Mini should come with a HDMI to DVI adapter.)

  • How do I fix the power button on my MacBook Pro?

    How do I fix the power button on my MacBook Pro? Thanks to Apple,  if you accidentally hit the power button with Mavericks, your downloading, ripping, burning, saving and any other process will be halted without completing.  How do I fix this so this no longer happens?

    Which os version are you using?  Which model Macbook Pro do you have?
    Does this article apply - MacBook Pro: Distorted video or no video issues?  The affected computers  were manufactured between approximately May 2007 and September 2008.

  • Apple thunderbolt display can work with a macbook pro 2009?

    Apple thunderbolt display can work with a macbook pro 2009 (mini display port? The image passes through the mini display port to the monitor, but the connections (Firewire, USB, ethernet) do not work. Can you confirm?

    I'd love to get confirmation if this is the case too.   I was all ready to buy the new iMac until I found I couldn't use it as an external monitor for my DisplayPort-based MacBook Pro.  And then I was all ready to buy the new display.
    I really hope Apple hasn't restricted this to purely Thunderbolt-equipped Macs. I know I'll end up upgrading my MacBook at some point but I can't do so just yet, and this means I'll have to go for some third-party display, camera, speakers etc for the new Mac Mini which is crazy.

  • Cinema display power button

    I have a 20" cinema display attached to a macbook pro. I usually just hit the power button on the side to turn it off, but all of a sudden when I try to turn off the monitor, it asks me if I want to shut down the computer. Not sure what changed or how to turn off the monitor now. Any ideas?

    Figured it out.
    System Preferences > Displays > Display Power Button > Turns power on and off. Couldn't find it before.

  • How to connect my old 20in Cinema Display to my thunderbolt new MacBook Pro?

    Hi everyone, I just brought a new MacBook Pro to replace a older model(brought earlier 2010), and a new thunderbolt Cinema Display. I have a old 20 inch LCD Cinema Display all the way from 2005 and brought a mini display port for my old MacBook Pro, worked just fine. However with the new Thunderbolt Display, I noticed there's another thunderbolt port behind and was thinking to connect my old Cinema Display as a secondary monitor. I've brought a thunderbolt port from amazon (http://www.amazon.com/dp/B007KB0EGC/ref=pe_175190_21431760_M3T1_ST1_dp_1 ), but my old monitor still shows black. What did I do wrong here? Thanks!

    So currently there are two displays and you expect there to be three?
    Can you swap the displays just to make sure there is nothing else wrong?
    That is confirm:
    1) MBP -> Display A works
    2) MBP -> Display B works
    Then try:
    MBP +-> Display A

        +-> Display B

  • Problem using clamshell mode with 2010 Macbook Pro

    I'm trying to use my mid 2010 Macbook Pro in clamshell mode with my Sanyo TV as a monitor. I have an external keyboard and mouse and I keep it plugged in when trying to do this. I have tried with mirrored and seperate displays, both with the TV as secondary and primary display, and whenever I close the lid the TV suddenly says that the input resolution has changed and is out of the range of the TV. I have tried changing the resolution on both the TV and computer when both displays are active and it has made no difference. Is there a way to make this work or a way to keep the computer from changing the output resolution when I close the lid?

    I have discovered that the issue is that the computer won't wake from sleep mode. I still have no idea what the problem is but it also occurs if I put the computer to sleep with the display open.

  • Trouble opening EndNote with 2010 MacBook Pro, updated to Maverick

    I have a 2010 MacBook Pro and recently upgraded to Maverick.  Today, I attempted to open EndNote and was hit with the following error:  "Unable to load: /Applications/EndNote X3/EndNoteX3.app/Contents/Resources/ENCore.bundle"
    I downloaded the PagesEndNoteplugin2 to see if that allowed me to open EndNote and it still gave me the same error message.
    I do not use Pages, I use Word.
    I'm hoping someone can help!

    While in Time Machine, press the key combination shift-command-C. The front window will show all mounted volumes. All snapshots should now be accessible. Select the one you want and navigate to the files you want to restore.

  • Cinema Display power button doesn't sleep

    I retired my older 15" Studio Display after recently purchasing a 23" Cinema Display. I loved the feature on my Studio Display that the power button would automatically put my computer to sleep. With my new Cinema display when I push the power button it brings up the Shut Down, Sleep, Restart, dialogue box instead. I changed the system prefs, and it still doesn't work.
    Any suggestions?

    I have the opposite problem as Michael's. Mine gives me the option to sleep, powerup JUST the diplay or do nothing. I want to be able to powerup/shutdown the whole Mac using the diplay button on the side. Checked the sys pref and nothing there. Maybe somewhere else?
    Pls help. Thanks

  • Cinema Display Power Button Not Functional

    The power button on my cinema display does nothing when pressed. The other button on the display (display preferences button) does work as expected. I have confirmed that the 'Disable power button' is not selected in the display settings panel.
    The button glows brighter when I press it, but nothing else happens.
    I would like to be able to start up and shut down my computer with this button since my bluetooth keyboard cannot do it, and I keep my laptop shut when it is connected to the external display.
    I was just given this display, so I do not know if has ever worked.
    Any ideas?

    Hi Ron,
    Possibly a daft question but do have either of the Cinema Display's USB or firewire cables plugged into your G4 as well as the DVI connection? This may sound obvious but I couldn't get the buttons on my 20" ACD to work until I plugged the USB connection into my Macbook.

  • Share cinema display between Mac Mini and MacBook Pro

    Hello -
    I am keen to get an LED cinema display to use on my new MacBook Pro - but I share my study with my children - so want to give them a MacMini to use.
    How easy is it two swap between the MacMini and the MacBook Pro ? I guess there is only one input in the LED cinema display ???
    Thanks in advance.
    Andrew

    Interesting - I have the same idea: sharing a 24" cinema display between a Macbook Pro for myself and a Mac mini for my wife.
    The only problem I see is that the display doesn't have any Firewire ports. So if I want to use an external harddrive (or a mini-DV camcorder) on both computers when connected to the display, then I'd have to plug that into the computer instead of the display ...

  • Power button on new macbook pro doesn't work well

    So I just got a snazzy new MBP 15inch with retina, my first Apple computer in almost 25years, and it's great so far.  I am having a strange issue with the power button.  If I'm trying to get the computer to turn on after shutting it down (not just closing the lid or letting the computer go to sleep) I have to tap the power button a bunch of times.  I couldn't find anything in the manual that says you have to push anything other than the power button to get the thing to turn on, am I missing some kind of Apple voodoo that I wouldn't know coming from the PC world?  Is the physical power button just faulty, or is there a software issue with the power switch?  Do I have to hold the button for 3 sec or something to get it to turn on? Hold another button while pressing the power one?  I'm extremely savvy with PCs and Windows, having built all of my own computers for close to two decades, but the last Apple (not counting my multiple iPads, iPods, and iPhone) computer I owned was a IIgs back in the 80s.
    Also, yes the battery is charged, having same problem with it plugged in.

    There is a CLICK to the button. Just Tapping it does not activate it. You have to actually Push it until you hear a CLICK.
    If that does not work TAKE IT BACK for full refund and buy another.

  • Is it possible to hook 2 23" Cinema Displays up to a 17" MacBook Pro

    I bought a 23" Cinema Display a couple of years ago. I love it, so much that I bought a 2nd one last week. I was hoping to be able to hook both of them up to my 17" MacBook Pro with a DVI Splitter. However, all the DVI Splitter does is split the display - so I have mirrored monitors. Is there some other piece of hardware that will allow me to drive both monitors from my MacBook (and my PC). I'm currently using a DVI-KVM Switch in order to use the same monitor, keyboard and mouse with both machines.
    Thanks,
    Matt

    unfortunately not currently. there are some interesting technologies, from matrox, for example, that are able to span analog monitors by creating a virtual double wide monitor, but not available for digital displays yet. i also believe that someone will make an ExpressCARD graphics adapter in the near future, much like there were PCMCIA graphics cards in the past.
    it is technically possible to breakout the Expresscard to desktop style PCI card planes, so the answer to you question is yes, there is a way, it is just very expensive, a pretty big box, the expense of a graphics adapter... nor really the solution i think you are seeking, more for pro applications - not to mention the driver nightmare it might be to get such a system working.

    I have a macbook pro intel core duo2 and i'm trying to connect my apple cinema display a1092 to my computer, there is an adapter available, but it does not seem to address the fireware cable coming out of my cinema display

    the apple display that i see online has a mag safe, usb and mini display port...connect all three to your laptop so you can charge your laptop as you use the display as well as use the USB ports on the back of the monitor.. i didnt see anything about firewire...
