23" HD Display as HDTV?

I have a 23" HD display. I also have a HD cable box from the cable company that has both a firewire and DVI port on the back. Is there any way I can use either of those ports to display HD cable tv on my display? I'm wondering about making it happen with or without the use of my Macbook Pro. Any help is greatly appreciated.

You can check the s/n here.
The graphiccard should work but it might be important to have the card's full manufacturer description.

  • No Display on HDTV using Mini Display Port to HDMI Cable

    Hi,
I have a Mini diplay port to HDMI cable Male to male cable. I am trying to connect my Macbook Pro running OS 10.6.4 to my LG 32inch HDTV and cannot get display onto the HDTV.
The screen just blinks for a bit but still no luck. I have searched a number of forums and am still looking for the appropriate steps.
Is there any configuration that I am missing?
    Please advise.

    Hi,
I currently have the same problem, but have found a temporary solution while looking for a permanent one. The temporary solution involves resetting the SMC. To do this follow these steps:
-First connect the cable to both your TV and your MacBook Pro and make sure both are powered on.
-Then shut down your MacBook Pro
-On the left side of your keyboard press command, alt (option), shift and the power button at the same time, holding them for a second and then releasing them at the same time.
-Wait about 10 seconds and then power on your MacBook Pro, the display should be detected and working.
As I said earlier this is only a temporary solution and I am looking for a permanent one, so any more help would be appreciated.
Let me know if it works or not.

  • Macbook Pro with Retina Display to HDTV, How?

Hey , okay so i have the new Macbook Pro with Retina Display i got it not too long ago. I'm looking to hook it up to my HDTV, i have a Samsung TV not 3D and i just wanted to know what cables and such i'll need to help me display what's on my Mac to my tv. I want to be able to use Netflix, HBO GO, etc from my computer and display it over the tv. Even thou i already have it on my 360, i just want the option. Thanks anyways.

We have two Samsung tvs...one is a smart tv and the orher is not but they are both LED.  I hook up my ipad to both TV's with an hdmi cable.   Did you try all the hdmi ports available?  Also, did you change the source on your remote control to the proper input?

  • Mirroring Macbook Display on HDTV

    Hey,
I have my macbook connected to an HDTV through a mini dvi to HDMI cable, and it has been working great. Suddenly though, when Mirroring is on, the image on the TV is very strange, like the colors don't match up, and there are a lot of green and red blobs on the screen—sort of like what graphics were way back in the day with the old Commodores.
The image is fine if mirroring is turned off—any one know how to help me?

The mirroring selection is in the "Arrangement" tab and only shows up on the MacBook Pro LCD, not the external display.

  • Thunderbolt Display to HDTV

I am working with a collegue who is using a TB docking station with his MBA13.  The docking station only has 2 TB ports, one which must be used to connect to the MBA13.  I had hoped to use the MDP to HDMI adapter to plug a HDTV to the TB display for use of video conferencing, with no success.
Is this a limitation of the TB display to not allow for MDP cables and adapters in the daisy chain?  Is there a docking station that has both HDMI and 2 TB ports, or 3 TB ports total that you've found?
    Thank you in advance!

Mini DisplayPort devices do not work plugged directly into the Thunderbolt port on the back of the Thunderbolt display, but will work if there is a Thunderbolt device (with two Thunderbolt ports) between the Thunderbolt display and the Mini DisplayPort device.
Connect the Thunderbolt display directly to the MacBook Air.  Connect one port of the docking station to the Thunderbolt port on the back of the Thunderbolt display.  Connect the Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter to the other port on the docking station.

  • IPhoto won't display on HDTV

I have a MacBook Pro (mid '11) with every bit of software at its most current version. I have about 60 photos cued up with an iTunes playlist to play on a loop in an iPhoto slideshow for a show/con I have coming up. When not plugged in to the tv it works great. After I plug it in to the TV's HDMI input with the mini display port adapter-to-HDMI cable, the MacBook shows a blue screen and mouse/keys are rendered useless every 10 seconds or so. Meanwhile, the TV never actually displays anything. Brand new cables. MacBook detects the display. Am I missing a setting or preference somewhere? I tried the other HDMI ports on the TV and got nothing. Shows in 4 days. Thanks for your help in advance.

Unfortunately, mirroring the display means that you will only see the resolution on the TV that your MBP is capable of and will not make full use of the native resolution of the TV, which is probably 1920x1080 (known as 1080P).  To make full use of your TV's resolution yet have the TV as the primary display drag the bar from the top of the smaller screen in the image in the Arrangements tab to the top of the larger one.

  • 2006 Mac Mini running mirrored display on display and HDTV

I have an early 2006 Mac Mini.  Got a DVI to DVI/VGA splitter as that's the input my TV has(RGB VGA/3.5 audio).  Plugged it in and if I connect it to both my monitor and my TV I get nothing on the TV.  Unplug the monitor and the TV works.  Is there a way to get them to work while both plugged in?  I'm perfectly fine with mirroring.
On a side note, I know the max for VGA is going to be 800x600, but it doesn't fill up remotely anywhere near the full screen.  Is there a way to stretch that so that it does that?
I just want this to be able to power the display so it can be used and also be able to stream things to my TV, preferably without constant switching of the splitter for the ease of other users. Anyone have any thoughts?  And no, I don't want to spend the money on the Matrox system.  Thanks for the help.

Now what if I bought a DVI to VGA to connect from the DVI split side into my monitor via VGA, would that work?  Or will it being split into VGA and DVI already screw it up and I therefore need to just get a straight DVI to dual VGA splitter?

  • Can't get display on HDTV

I bought a DVI to HDMI cable and connected to an HD TV. The TV senses an input - but all I get on the TV is a blue screen. What dO I have to do to get the display to show up on the TV?

    go to display preferences
if the tv has been detected correctly then there will be settings available for it (if it doesn't show up, try clicking 'detect displays')
you can choose to mirror the desktop or extend it

  • Air play display on HDTV not appearing

    Hi,
I just upgraded to Mavericks but can not see the icon for Air display to enable me to use apple Tv and my HD TV as a second display.
    Could you help?

Not all computers are compatible with AirPlay Mirroring. See > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5404
If your Mac isn't compatible, you have to use an application like AirParrot or Beamer to mirror your Mac's display to your Apple TV. If your Mac is supported, make sure the Apple TV is connected to the same network as the Mac

  • Which cable to output MacBook Pro display to HDTV

I have an LG with both S-video and USB inputs. What sort of cable do I use to watch on the big screen?

No HDMI input on the TV? You could try a mini displayport to VGA adapter and then a VGA to S-video cable. I haven't tried it so I'm not certain it will work.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
It allows content from iTunes to be streamed to the Apple TV, it does not stream other content or mirror the desktop.

My video card has a VGA and an ADc connector. Connected my 19" monitor using VGA connector.
Got a Belkin ADC to DVI adaptor for the ADC output.
Got a DVI to HDMI cable to connect to the TV.
    Everything plugged together Ok.
On powering up the Mac, the Widescreen TV shows the grey screen with the apple symbol and the spinning wheel, this disappears and the 19" monitor comes on. This displays the desktop picture, but no icons appear and that's all that happens. Power off theMac, power off the Widescreen TV, power on the Mac and it comes up normally. The grey bootup screen appears on the 19".
So how do I get the system to recognise BOTH displays. I've played with the System Preferences, but because the system won't recognise both screens I can't switch on the mirror option.
Any thoughts on the problem welcome.
    Ta.

I take it that OS10.5.5 is detecting my Viewsonic VA1912w Screen connected to the VGA; but for some reason has decided that there is NO display (my HDTV via HDMI) connected to the ADC.
I've been playing with this for a day or two now. With both screens attached and powered on I power on the G4. The grey "boot up" screen with the Apple logo and spinning wheel appears on the HDTV screen, meaning the Mac has found it and is using it. While this is happening the Viewsonic is grey.
Then both screen go black, the Viewsonic goes blue, then puts up an old desktop picture, while the HDTV remains black. And that's all that happens.
I have to disconnect the HDMI cable from the HDTV, power down the HDTV & the Mac, then power on the Mac again to get it back.
So why would the Mac detect the HDTV, then decide it's not there?
I've tried adjusting the display settings and frequencies to no avail.
    Anyone?

  • External Displays and the (current model) 20" iMac

    Hi there
I'm considering the purchase of a 20" iMac...the current model retailing at circa £949...and I wondered how many external monitors it could support? I'm aware that there's one monitor out port (either mini display port or mini DVI, not sure), but it is possible for the mac to support TWO external monitors?
I've used a three monitor setup when using a PC before and it was a really useful expansion to the screen real estate for the tasks at hand. It would be good to know how many monitors the iMac could support though!

The current (2009) iMac has a Mini DisplayPort. You need an adapter for DVI to connect a typical digital display, although I've noticed that some recent lower end displays use HDTV LCD panels and only have an HDMI connection. If the display is DVI, this is the adapter you need.
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MB570Z/A?mco=NDcwODI4MQ
With this adapter, you can go up to 1920x1200 (a typical 24" display).
With a Mini DisplayPort, you can connect a dual-link DVI display (2560x1600), a 30" display. You need a different adapter for dual-link.
You can only add one more display the normal way. However, OWC recently introduced a USB-based video adapter.
    http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Other%20World%20Computing/VIDU2DVIA/
You can use it for the third display, if you really need it.
