23" to WinXP connection

trying to the ACD 23" to work with an XFX nVidea 6800LE 128mg graphics card, have spoken to XFX and they point me in the direction of Apple so here goes...
have installed WinACD4
System will not boot with only the ACD connetced via DVI connector, pluging in a CRT into the VGA port with the ACD also connected results in the system boot perfectly and then switching to the ACD, resolution and performance is perfect then on.
XFX seem to think that it had something to do with the fact that the graphics card is a 'dual link' card and the ACD needs a 'single link' format, in my limited knowledge can't see what affect this would have as me thinks the single vs dual is to do with the data flow for resolution, could be wrong though!!
Little pointer is also that when I connect a new piece of hardware to the system CRT/HDD the system seems to power cycle a number of times prior to restarting the first time
Rest of the system is

Win XP SP2
cd/dvd RW
cd/dvd player
power supply 380w

I have a Shuttle SB83G5M with a Club 3D ATI Radeon X850Pro PCI Express card, 23" Alu ACD running Windows SP2. I can't acces the BIOS and cannot view the loading screen.. the image only appears once you get to the login screen. Had to borrow a VGA monitor to set up the BIOS and to install windows.
Chipset: Intel 915G + ICH6R
Award V6.0PG BIOS, 4MBit flash memory

Anyone know if this is the kinda problem you just have to live with or if it can be resolved? Also if anyone has a explanation to exactly why it does'nt work that would be greatly appreaciated.

I am getting intermitant connections to the db. I have looked and looked at the network configuration. I do believe it is correct.

Oh yes I should have added that once the connection is established it works fine. Even if other connections fail after the early connections is established.

It is only when I attempt to connect like:

  • No longer able to set resolution above 1024x768

I've read several threads about somewhat similar issues, yet none of the things I have tried have had any effect (well, except making xorg configurations that don't work at all).  Apparently the wiki entry on this topic is all wrong so I may have been trying the wrong things.
Here is a summary--I'm including some extra info ( try not to yawn because I honestly am out of ideas, and am hoping context will be of assistance.  I have an old 1920x1200 24" monitor.  My desktop (dual boot Arch/WinXP) connects to it through a VGA/USB KVM.  I use the NVIDIA drivers on the desktop.  For what it is worth, the other machine was a work-owned laptop dual booting Windows XP and Ubuntu 10.04 LTS.
This configuration worked for a long time like a charm, both laptop and desktop, both boots on each.
Sometime around June, an Arch update (or possibly NVIDIA driver update) made my resolution downgrade (on the desktop) to 1024x768.
Then my work laptop got reimaged with Win7.  Win7, (like Arch on the desktop), refused to use the proper resolution by default.  However, I figured out how to force it.  I installed Ubuntu 12.04 LTS on the work laptop -- same problem as on the Arch desktop.  I only include this in case it helps narrow down my problem, though I expect if I can figure out how to fix Arch I can figure out how to fix Ubuntu.  (it's torture trying to do my job using the crappy Windows nomachine client)
Ok, so to focus on the issue -- the following is from my Arch install on the desktop.
    Out of the Xorg.0.log:
[ 1333.785] (WW) NVIDIA(GPU-0): Unable to read EDID for display device CRT-0
    [ 1333.785] (**) NVIDIA(0): Using HorizSync/VertRefresh ranges from the EDID for display
[ 1333.785] (**) NVIDIA(0): device CRT-0 (Using EDID frequencies has been enabled on
    [ 1333.785] (**) NVIDIA(0): all display devices.)
I have been trying to get xrandr to get the right resolution set as a stepstone to changing xorg configuration, without success.

What are the proper steps to go through to figure out what is wrong?  I've spent most of the last few years just using linux rather than tinkering with it, and the whole Xorg situation is so different these days I'm at a loss.

Here's what you can do. Fully remove the xorg.conf file. Regenerate them using nvidia-xconfig, Open the nvidia's GUI as root and just click "Save configuration", or something among those lines. Google your monitor's manual and find the RIGHT vertical and horizontal sync frequency ranges. After setting them in your xorg.conf log-out and log-in again. Go to the nvidia settings gui, you should be able to use a higher resolution.
I've tried this a few times, but always end up with a "Signal out of range".  I think the trick is finding the correct ranges.  My monitor is a Soyo Topaz S 24", and I can't find any official manual or specs online.  What I have found is this:
    http://www.thinkcomputers.org/old/index … ews&id=733
    That review indicates:
    Frequency: Fh: 30 kHz - 80 kHz; Fv: 50 Hz - 75 Hz
    So I set:
    HorizSync 30-80
    VertRefresh 50-75
Signal out of range, which is annoying because in order to fix it I either have to reboot using a live CD, mount the drive, or ssh into it.  Whoever started the trend of disabling ctl alt backspace to kill an xsession is not my friend...
Some other forum posts about this monitor indicate that there may have been two variants, but I can't find a different set of specs.

  • Calendar display issues for "All Day Events" coming from Exchange Server

My problem is with the display of All Day events. I'm running a 3gs, Outlook 2007 on winxp, connected to a Exchange 2007 server. When an all day event is put in for multiple days the phone calendar displays it as starting at midnight going to midnight, and sometimes wont display the event on the list view on the phone. I can correct the display by editing it on the phone and making it all day there, but then the category I assigned the event in outlook goes away in outlook. All day single day events work just fine. Any suggestions?

    Sort of same issue:
All day events scheduled from Entourage display incorrectly on iPhone/iPad as non-all-day events (which block out entire day/multiple days)
All day events scheduled from iPhone/iPad show up correctly in Entourage as all-day events, but incorrectly with an *extra day* added.

Sorry Tattsy I am not going to offer help here but your situation is somewhat similar to mine and I thought why not throw our problems together maybe someone can help us both.

  • Jukebox Zen firmware fai

Zen's os system was mistakenly erased and now I can only get into rescue mode. WinXP connects to the Zen but I am unable to load new firmware. Firmware update tries to install but after a minute or so I get a "firmware upgrade failed!" message? I have re formatted and selected reload os. No help. When I try the firmware upgrade I get a pop up stating current firmware version .2.0. I didn't think this was even a firmware. I am trying to install firmware upgrade .2.02 and then it fails. I have tried to install ..04 as well with same results. Anyone have any ideas on how to get the os working?Message Edited by teppo on 04-08-2005 09:06 AM

Make sure you're connecting via USB cable when loading the firmware...firewire firmware updates stopped working somewhere along the way with a firmware version release (could be v.2.02).
Here's the pertinent FAQ from Nomadness.net:
<I>How do I reload the OS?
Firstly, make sure you have downloaded a firmware for your player.
. Select the Reload OS menu option (or Reload Firmware for the Zen Micro) from Rescue Mode.
    2. The display shows that your player is removing the current firmware.
    3. Connect your player to your computer with the <B>USB cable</B>.
    4. In the folder where you downloaded this firmware update, double-click the .EXE file, and follow the instructions that appear on your screen.
    5. When prompted, click the Upgrade option.
    6. When the upgrade is complete, your player restarts.
    7. A "rebuilding the library" message appears on your player's LCD. This message disappears when your player has finished rebuilding the music library.
    8. You can now use your player. </I>
    Good luck.

  • Windows Computers need to be restarted before SMB will work???

    Hi there,
Here is my current problem. We have several PCs (All on WinXP) connected to our Xserve. The server is set as a standalone, and it is connected to our RAID. We do not use domains, and have a standard workgroup setup.
More often than not, when we first boot up our PCs, they do not find the server (or RAID drives), saying that they cannot authenticate. However, they can all ping the server, so IP setup would appear to be working. Once the pc is restarted, the PCs (usually) find the server and the RAID drives without a problem. However, this is a hastle and usually involves me having to do it 20 times a day...
Has anyone run into this before, and can it be fixed?
    Thank you!
    James

    Hi
If the Server is not in an OD Role and the Windows Service is set to Standalone, then its a good idea to switch off Workgroup Master Browser as well as Domain Master Browser.
If there is more than one PC on the network they have hold a meeting amongst themselves to decide which one provides the Workgroup Browsing container. They do this as they are powered on. They are better at it than the Mac. If the Mac is left to do it then PCs can experience network disconnects and problems where PCs disappear from the browsing view and reappear again. Its also a good idea to assign fixed IP addresses to all the PCs.
    Consult the manual available here:

  • My Satellite A25-S279 (WinXP) will not connect to the internet wirelessly since UVerse was installed

My Satellite A25-S279 (WinXP) will not connect to the internet wirelessly since UVerse was installed. (Rather, I should say
it 'connects', then immediately disconnects.) When I had regular DSL, there was no problem, but since UVerse installation,
I can connect ONLY with the ethernet cable.
Thinking it was my 'old' computer, I took it to the local computer place---they were able to connect instantly (wirelessly) AND maintain connection. Sooo...I've told this to ATT, & had 2 different techs out here, both of whom were very patient & tried EVERYTHING they could think of,  & both of whom failed to fix the problem. They maintain that it is NOT the fault of the modem/router, but is some 'miscommunication' between my laptop & the modem/router.
Is that possible? Is there a setting I need to change on the laptop? If it worked BEFORE UVerse, and if it STILL works at the Computer store, and if it works WITH the cable, why won't it connect wirelessly?
Thank you SO much for any thoughts!

It is possible. While it's not common, sometimes you could have a working router and a working wireless card in a laptop, but they just don't communicate. It sounds like that might be the problem unfortunately.

    Hi @OHIMATAS,
I see by your post that you are unable to network the printer to the Windows XP computer, but the Windows 7 computer is connected. I can help you with this.
Make sure the Windows XP computer is connected to the correct network name, not a Guest network either.
Print a configuration page to get the printer's IP address.
    Printing a Configuration Page.
Try and access the printer's Embedded Web Server on the Windows XP computer.
Type the IP address into your web browser's address bar. (Internet Explorer)
    Did it load the webpage?
If you can't access the printer's EWS, then check the IP address on the computer to see if the first 3 sets of numbers match the printer's IP. They have to match to be on the same network.
Go to start, type run in the search box, type in cmd, then type ipconfig.
    Check the IPV4 address.
Now check the IPV4 address for the printer.
Do the first 3 sets of numbers match?
    Try and ping the printer.
In the same window, type ping printers IP address (space between ping and IP address)
    What are the results?
Run the add printer wizard through printers and faxes, if you were able to access the printer's EWS.
Please provide in detail the results if you are still having issues.
    Have a nice day!

  • Oracle Data Miner connecting to Oracle DB 10.2.0.1 on WinXP; Error

I think this posting is similar to others however I can not figure it out and hoped that someone can help me.
I am trying to connect to the 10g database (10.2.0.1) on WinXP with Data Miner (10.1.0.2).
I am getting the following error message:
"Cannot connect to specified Data Mining Server. Check connection information and try again".
The Connection Name is "RSSODM". This is a new connection name.
    User is ODM
Password is ODM. Secret password. :>)
    Host is my machine name
    Port is 1521
    SID is RSS10G.
I can connect to the ODM schema on the RSS10G database. However I do not see any objects owned by DMSYS. Also, when I executed the odmuser.sql file, it fails to grant DMUSER_ROLE to ODM.
I can not find the DMUSER_ROLE. Did I miss something? Can I manually execute something or should I provide all grants on all objects owned by DMSYS to ODM?
    Please advise.
    Thanks in advance.
    Have a wonderful day/weekend,
    Andy
P.S. For anyone leaving near the Gulf states, prayers and thoughts are with you all. :>)

Updated Information as of 9/6/2005 1:05 pm.
I found out several ".sql" file was never executed. For example, dminst1.sql was never executed which corrected some of my issues; could not find DMUSER_ROLE.
I manually executed all the appropriate sql files. I hope I did not miss anything or did it in the correct order or logged in as the correct user.
Also, I tried to use ODMiner logged in as ODM and I was getting the original error message, can not connect to the server..
Then I tried to use ODMIner logged in as DMSYS and now I get another error message. The error message is "Specified Data Mining Server is not compatible. 10.2.0.1.0". The error message appeared in a pop-up window and nothing was seen in the backgroun (MS prompt window).
All error messages were encountered while I was executing the odminer.exe file; used for troubleshooting.
    Am I doing something wrong?
Am I do ing something right?
    Please advise.
    Thanks in advance.
    Have a wonderful day/week,

  • Problem getting WinXP machine to connect to Time Capsule

I just changed from DSL to Comcast. Old DSL configuration works:
    DSL modem->(ethernet cable) WinXP machine
DSL modem->Time Capsule->wired/wireless to Macbook Pro and wireless to iMac
    New configuration:
    cable modem->Airport Express->wireless to Time Capsule->(ethernet cable)Win XP machine
cable modem->Airport Express->wireless to Time Capsule->wired/wireless to MacBook Pro and wireless to iMac
Mac clients work fine, XP Client does not connect
I can connect through the Time Capsule to my MacBook with an ethernet cable, so I know the Time Capsule is connected. I did a DHCP release on both Mac machines to get them hooked up to Comcast; did ipconfig /release, ipconfig /renew, on XP machine, also tried "repair connection" but neither worked.
The DSL modem is in the same room with my MacBook and Time Capsule, while the cable modem is downstairs. I used the Airport Express to connect to the cable modem so I could maintain a wired connection between the Time Capsule and my MacBook for Time Machine.
In the past I used the Airport Express to connect the XP machine wirelessly.
    Any ideas?

I understand it seems backwards, but I'm trying it this way to keep the Time Machine within cable distance of my MacBook so that Time Machine is faster. Is there any real advantage to using the Time Capsule as the base station and the Airport Express as the extender, as opposed to the opposite (as I am doing now?) What configuration is likely to give the best throughput?
    Here is what I have:
First floor: cable modem; iMac with its own external drive for Time Machine
Second floor: MacBook with Time Capsule for Time Machine.
The simplest solution seemed to be just to place the Airport Express (which was unused) next to the cable modem and leave the rest alone.
Meanwhile, I tried again to get the winxp machine connected, and it is working. I'm considering getting a second Airport Express for the winxp machine, so I can get rid of the long cable connecting it to the Time Capsule.
I'm marking this as solved since it started working, and I appreciate your taking the time to respond.

I can ping ip1 from ip2 and and vice versa, but i can not tnsping oracle on ip1 from ip2 or tnsping oracle on ip2 from ip1. The errors are the same.

  • "Connect as...' to WinXP PC will only connect as Guest

I have a WIndowsXP PC connected to my home network that I want to connect to from my MBPro using a local (Windows) account. I need to do this so that I can access files that belong to that account and are not visible if logged in as Guest. Both computer are configured to be in the same Workgroup and the WinXP PC is listed under Shared in Finder on my MBPro. Clicking on the WinXP PC (under Shared) connects me to the WinXP PC but only as "Connected as: Guest". When I click on the "Connect As...:" button, select 'Registered User", enter a valid Name and Password (i.e.- a valid account on the XP box) and then click on Connect, nothing changes and I'm still shown as being connected as Guest.
Anyone have any idea what I'm doing wrong?

Thanks for the link. I guess it's not possible to do what I wanted while running my WinXP PC in a Workgroup. I was hoping that connecting to it using a local admin username/password would give me all the rights associated with that local admin account but it appears that is not possible. Even giving a only a specific user access to certain shares appears to only be possible if the XP machine is joined to a domain or if the PC is running Win7.
    Thanks again!
