2310 HDMI Problem

I bought an Acer computer and a junk LCD monitor that died on me in less than a week and I had to return.  I went with the HP 2310m instead.  Got it hooked up and the desktop is about a half an inch too big all around when HDMI output is set to 1920 x 1080.  If I lower resolution to 1776 x 1000 it all fits with some extra black around edges.
The VGA connection works fine on 1920 x 1080.  The HDMI worked fine on the junk monitor I returned.  I called Acer and they ran me through a couple of tests and said it must be the monitor, called HP and they ran me through a couple of tests and said it must be the computer.
It's an intel integrated G45/G43 Express chipset.  I've tried downloading most recent intel driver and no luck.  I don't have a DVI device to try.
Any ideas would be appreciated.

I decided to give tech support one more try tonight since I really like the look of this monitor (except when I can't see 3/4 inches of the edges in HDMI mode).
Of the three calls, they all told me it was my graphics card, but couldn't explain why the signal from the DVD player hooked directly into the HDMI input also had the edges cut off since it did not invovle the computer at all.  (It's not the cable, I've tried two.)
The tech on the first call was useless.  On the second call I told the tech that I couldn't access the "CUSTOM SCALING" adjustment in the "IMAGE CONTROL" section of the menu which, according to the manual, should fix this sort of thing.  It's greyed out and I can't get to it.  He said that didn't sound right and asked me to hold.  After 10 minutes he came back and said they were having the same problem on a monitor in their office and they were trying to solve the problem.  Another 10 minutes went by and he said they couldn't figure it out and I should call back in two hours.
I called back, got a different guy who told me there was no way to hook me back up with the second guy.  He did end up offering to have me sind it in for repair.  I told him I think it's more than a problem with just this monitor because the one in the second guy's office was doing it, and the one on display at Office Max did it when I went back to test it a few days ago.
I guess I'll exchange it and see if the new one does it, too.  The picture is so good that I don't want to give up if it's a tech problem that can be solved.

  • MacBook Pro Retina 13' HDMI Problem

    Hi all,
Two weeks ago I discovered a problem with the HDMI output on my external monitor (LG IPS 234) when connected to a MacBook Pro Retina 13'. The monitor wasn't able to display greyscale information. E.g. the underlying greyscales of a Google preview search suggestion when hovering a mouse over the suggestions. Also the whole monitor display looked washed out and fuzzy. I thought it would be a problem with the monitor, so I hauled it back to the store. We checked the monitor with a MBPR 15' and everything was fine (screens not in sync - important see below). I started thinking the new 13' MBPR might be the issue. But before leaving the store and blaming my MBPR 13' we checked out another 13' MBPR and (supprise!) the same effect again. To double check we tried another external monitor from Samsung (ok, I know if Samsung is not working with an Apple MBPR...). But seriously... The same effect again.
I contacted the Apple support and after discussing this with the 1st level (with little helpful tips ... SMB reset etc.) I was forwarded to the 2nd level. The guy wasn't able to help me either. He blamed my monitor and that it might need a firmware update. The problem could be linked with some incompatible HDCP. But a firmware update can only be done by the monitor vendor or a service partner and LG doesn't even indicate that this is possible at all.
Now my question is, does anybody else experience problems with external IPS displays and the MBPR 13'?
As I said, we tested it with 2 different MBPR 13' and 2 monitors from different vendors. In each combination the same problem. Always the same effect. For me this is an indication that there might be a bigger problem under the surface.
    Kird
PS: a friend with a MPBR 15' has the same effect but only when the internal and the external IPS monitor is in sync
PS: the Apple 2nd level support promised me to give me a call regarding further steps to solve the problem (with a fixed date on Monday this week) ... They never called... Poor service Apple!

    Hello Daniel,
I gave Apple a call last week and asked for a feedback on my ticket. The guy I talked to at least tried to help me with the issue. In the meantime since my last attempt to receive something from Apple nothing has happened on the issue. Surprise! So we started from 0 again... Ok... Bought in customer with a decent pain level...
I received some test tools from the guy that I ran on the MPPR creating an encrypted file (...yes I can imagine what you think and I can assure you I had similar thoughts...) and mailed this stuff back to Apple. Now that they have insight of my whole digital live (ok I distend it a bit, but in reply to my question what's all included in this file the guy mentioned something like "don't worry only technical stuff..." Ah yea... That's why it is encrypted... You might find an info about a malfunction in the HDMI inside... very confident... Ok... What you all do for a chance of solving an HDMI problem).
So the current status is: Apple engineers are spending nights in the office to dig into whatever this tools squeezed out of my innocent MacBook. You see I have reached a state where I am slowly drifting into sarcasm ;-)
The guy mentioned there might ! be a patch coming with the next release if Apple finds the issue important enough ! and ! enough other customers have the problem as well. And on this I am not kidding. That's what he said.
Hmm... Will 3 customers be enough? I doubt it... We'll find out with the next release. Maybe we can increase the complains from release to release and empirically estimate when Apple starts taking customers seriously.
My personal guess is that they will dismount the HDMI port and send us an aluminum plug that fits perfectly in the hole. I have a flashback... There was once an issue with an antenna and they offered a piece of plastic to...
I am getting carried away so I better stop now :-) and return to my wine
Let's stay in touch if you find out something on the GB

  • Mavericks HDMI Problem with Atomos H2S

I have recently come across a problem with Mavericks interfacing with a Atomos H2S that converts a HDMI signal to a HD-SDI Signal. I have used this device for the past couple of years and since upgrading two of my MacBook Pros to Mavericks, the Atomos H2S shows errors that it cannot recognise the signal. The exact same computer that before Mavericks worked perfectly. I have tested with other MacBooks and have found the same problem only with Mavericks.
I am aware people have had HDMI problems with certain monitors once upgrading to Mavericks but no one has posted about an Atomos H2S. Seems like a problem with Mavericks if it can't interface HDMI protocol with certain products that it could previously with.
Any suggestions on how to fix this problem without going back to Mountain Lion?

DVI seems to work perfectly fine though.

  • MSI Media Live - HDMI Problems

    Hi all
    Hope somebody can help?
Got a little problem with this system when connected via HDMI cable.
On boot up it displays the Windows Start up info (not sure the correct term) and the logo saying Windows XP loading, but then get a blank screen. If I change over to scart all is OK I can see the desktop.
Possibly something daft, but it has beat me.
    Many thanks

    - I installed, uninstalled, installed, uninstalled and installed the drivers finally got desktop working with HDMI cable. But, now no audio at all not even through scart  no startup sounds, no audio through cd player, but when I test in the Realtek High Definition Audio Driver R1.47 I get its stereo test sound  .  Here goes with the audio drivers

  • XRANDR HDMI problem NVIDIA Optimus proprietary

    Hi,
Can someone help me understand why when I switch the audio to HIMI the frequency is accelerated? I followed the wiki about the sampling frequency of pulseaudio but has no effect. in practice, the audio is slightly accelerated it seems one octave above. Sorry for my English but I'm using google. I'm Italian.
Update: I noticed that the video is slightly sped up. only when I pass by HDMI. I am using the proprietary drivers from NVIDIA.
Update1: Another issue concerns xrandr. when I launch the command xrandr i see only a portion of screen in laptop monitor (3/4 of screen is blasck and the only fouth      visible is
passed to HDMI).  I need a mirror of laptop screen over HDMI with different resolution. If I disable the main screen and use only HDMI it's ok but with audio and video speed
                   problem.
    Summary:
HDMI only works if I do xrandr --off on the main monitor. So it works but with accelerated video and audio.
if i active both screens I just get a portion visible in the monitor of the laptop (1/4visible 3/4 black) and the visible portion occupies the entire screen over HDMI.
Update2: I noticed that all the outputs are associated to modesetting
Update3: I noticed that if i power the lapotop with the HDMI monitor connected after grub boot i have the problem of laptop's screen visible area. At this moment i believe that the
problem depend to modesetting module driver.
My question is: is it possible to change modesetting to xf86-video-intel one? Because if i try to install intel driver i have a conflict between mesa-libgl and nvidia-libgl.

  • Mini display port to HDMI problem...still happening, apple needs to help!

i read a lot about this topic and the question was marked answered, but there was no answer, sooo...
this is just a heads up to apple that this problem still exists and many people are still having it! Please do something... you put this mini display port on your computers... sold them to us... and now dont have software that lets it work... loosing a lil faith in apple today! there were 11 pages on this that i saw, i think it deserves a firmware update!
this next part is a direct copy of a post by sanktcolon and he explained the problem very well, so if your interested...
I figured I would just tell you all about my story. I do not have any solutions, the problem is still ongoing. But first I'd like to clear some confusion.
There seem to be a couple of people in this thread who thinks that when you experience this problem and you plug the HDTV with your MacBook through HDMI, you get a connection with the HDTV and can change the settings. This is not true. What happens is that the MacBook will flash its screen like it does when it detects a TV being connected, but then it will go back to normal. No connection established. Of course, there's people in this thread with different kinds of problems but with similarities. However, the main problem in this thread is quite clear and it's the same one that I have.
So with that out of the way, here's what happens for me and most people in this thread:
I've been using a Mini Display Port to HDMI adapter for quite a while and it has been working great. But lately I've been experiencing issues with it. There is nothing wrong with the adapter nor the cable, and certainly not the TV.
When I connect the adapter to the computer, the screen on the MacBook will flash blue, like it should, but it will not connect to the TV. What does this mean? It means that it detects the TV but is unable to establish a connection with it. Probably because it sends the wrong signals.
Now that's all pretty logical, but here comes the weird stuff. If I continue to try and re-establish a connection, either by plugging in and out the cable or changing HDMI-ports with the TV-remote (the MacBook re-detects when I switch from HDMI1 to HDMI2 and back), it will eventually establish a connection with the TV and work fine. Though, this can take minutes. Plenty of minutes. Last night I tried re-detecting for about 15 minutes and it didn't work. However, this morning it worked quite quickly.
So the problem is quite obviously with the MacBook/the OS and not with the adapter, cable or the TV. It's just ridiculous, and frankly quite annoying, to read posts where people claim you should get a new adapter. Why? Because there's so many people out there with different adapters, and people who have switched adapters and so on and so forth, that experience the exact problem I just describe. So either there's a problem with the MacBook/OS or there's a lot of TVs and adapters out there that are faulty. It's just illogical.
Once again I would like to remind you all that there's no connection, what so ever, between the TV and the MacBook when it doesn't establish one. And by establish I mean that you can actually see the screen on the TV. So bringing up the display settings won't do anything, search for devices on the TV or in the MacBook won't do anything. There just is not a TV there for the MacBook.
I have tried everything posted in this thread and the only thing that works for me is trying over, and over, and over, and over again until it just randomly works.

I too am having this same problem with my Macbook Air (Late 2010 Edition). I think this has something to do with OSX 10.6.6. Before the update, my mini display to HDMI was working flawlessly. Now, when I try to plug in to the TV my macbook just flashes the blue screen with no picture going to the TV what so ever. I'm not sure what was done with the update, but i'd sure like to be able to connect this machine to the TV again! APPLE, HEAR OUR VOICES! Fix this problem!

  • Mini DVI to HDMI problems...

Hey guys, I hope you can solve my problem. My late 2008 MacBook...
    Model Name: MacBook
    Model Identifier: MacBook4,1
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
    Processor Speed: 2.4 GHz
    Number Of Processors: 1
    Total Number Of Cores: 2
    L2 Cache: 3 MB
    Memory: 2 GB
    Bus Speed: 800 MHz
    Boot ROM Version: MB41.00C1.B00
    SMC Version (system): 1.31f1
...I am having trouble connecting it to my 42" Panasonic Plasma 720p. I purchased a mini dvi - hdmi adapter and plugged everything in and just got a blue screen on the macbook and nothing on the tv. I am sure that the right input was used on the TV. I also tried using the same setup on my other 32" lcd, but had the same problem with the macbook. What am i doing wrong. Should I try a mini dvi to s-video and use that or would the picture suffer. Since my tv has the hdmi, I would really like to use it...I called apple, but the referred me to the forum or pay them $50 to try and figure out the problem. The tv has 2 hdmi inputs and I tried both of them. It also has s-video and component inputs, but no vga...Please Help...

I am having an identical problem. Unfortunately, I cannot quite follow the syntax of the response to the original post. I have a Macbook 2.1 and I am trying to hook up to an LG 32LH20 TV. I got the Mini DVI to HDMI adapter and an HDMI cable at eh Apple store. Connected the HDMI cable to the HDMI IN jack on the back of the TV. They also sold me an audio cable with the 3.5mm jack on one end and the red/white AV plugs on the other end.
Once all of the cables are hooked up, it doesn't work...exactly. If I switch the TV input to 'Component', I can get the audio of whatever is running on the Macbook, like from a Netflix movie. As for video, the only thing I get is when I switch the TV input to 'HDMI'. Then, all I get is the generic Apple purple sky. The only things that I can get in the screen of the TV that also shows up on the Macbook are when I open up things like the System Preferences menu. No browsers or other apps.
Can somebody please help me further?
    Thanks

  • Mini-DVI to HDMI Problem

Hi, I bought a Mini-DVI to HDMI adapter like this one: http://www.hdtvsupply.com/mini-dvi-to-hdmi.html to be able to hook up my macbook (2007 white version) to my HDTV. However, since HDMI is traditionally for both video AND audio, the HDMI channel on the TV can only output audio coming in through the HDMI cable. There is no sound, because I am only feeding video through that channel.
To solve the issue, I purchased the following 6ft 3.5mm Stereo Plug/2 RCA Plug Cable: http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=102&cp_id=10218&cs_id=1021804 &p_id=665&seq=1&format=1#largeimage. The problem is, that I am only able to play sound from my laptop on my HDTV on one channel, and video from the Mini-DVI to HDMI adapter on another, but not both audio and video at the same time. What is the SIMPLEST way to fix this? I wouldn't want to purchase any additional cables if possible
Many thanks for your help in advance!!!

Thanks for that. I have a Y adapter (3.5mm stereo headphone jack to RCA sound just like you said). Under input options on my TV, I can select either HDMI1 input (which gives me video only) or AV1/S input (which gives me audio only) - not both at once...Could you explain how I can get stereo audio on my TV?

  • Mini Dvi to hdmi problem, the mini dvi doesn't even plug in all the way?

    hi,
i have a mid 2007 macbook, i just bought a mini dvi to hdmi cable, i tried to plug it in and it doesn't even plug on all the way, 1/3 of the conector is still hanging out, and it doesnt display anything anyways, nothing is detected on the macbook or the TV.
somone seem to have the same exact problem as me with the laptop, but his query wasn't answered it was the last post on this thread.

  • MacBook Pro Mini-DVI to HDMI problems - not consistent

I have a MacBook Pro and I'm trying to hook my LG LCD up from the Mini-DVI to HDMI cable.  Sometimes the TV is recognized no problem, but sometimes the TV doesn't receive the signal, any thoughts on how to make sure the TV is always recognized?
I saw a post once about having the macbook boot connected to the TV to recognize it, and it worked, but I think I'm missing something again because I can't seem to do it again!  I'm looking for the post but can't find it!

Just to add, i think the cables are all in working order as when i plug in the adapter to the macbook the screen temporarily goes blue then back to normal desktop. This only happens if the cables are plugged into the back of the TV. However they two still wont recognise each other.

  • Minidisplay to HDMI problem

I just purchased a minidisplay to HDMI adapter (the brand is rocketfish) and the HDMI cable (the brand is mediabridge), and when I try to connect my macbook pro (mid-2010) to my TV the screen on my computer flashes blue a few times, and then goes back to normal. The TV is not detected as an external display, and there is just a "no signal" message on the tv screen. I've tried plugging and unplugging the cords in every possible order, but nothing works. I noticed that several people are having this same problem. Has anyone found a solution?

  • Macbook Pro Retina 2014 HDMI problems

    Hi,
I'm new to the Mac world, so please forgive me if I'm overlooking the obvious.  I'm trying to connect my new 2014 Macbook Pro Retina to my VGA monitor via a HDMI adaptor.  I've used this adaptor without problems on my Lenovo laptop running Ubuntu.  However, when I connect it to the Mac, the Macbook display flashes, sometimes I see the display preferences and it correctly identifies the monitor, an old Acer wide-screen, flash up and it flicks between various resolutions and preference options; other times it just flashes and then goes blank (the only way I know to get back from the blank screen is to turn it off and on again).  Other times it just flashes and then does nothing, certainly in display preferences I don't see the other monitor and the other monitor is blank.
I know the cable and monitor work, I can understand their being a resolution problem, the monitor is way less capable than the retina screen.  So, is there any way to tell the Mac to use extended mode instead of mirror mode from the start?
Can I basically set-up the monitor and then plug it in, so it doesn't have to try and auto detect everything and have a heart attack?
Also, it seems like all the failed attempts have stopped the Mac even trying to figure out what to do.  I have deleted the plist files, which I assume are the configuration files so it will try and figure out what to do again, but it just seems to have now succumbed to the fact it doesn't want to work with it.
    Any suggestions, very much appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Paul

Thanks for the suggestion, unfortunately the monitor is not available to be selected under Display > Colour.  When I have the display properties open, it does flash up a new window with the correct monitor and various resolution settings, but it is not possible to select one or do anything as the display keeps flashing and the cursor keeps jumping to the top left of the screen, then everything goes blank.
The HDMI to VGA adaptor that I use is a CAMAC (not the best in the world I'm sure but has worked solidly with my Lenovo laptop and Unbuntu).
The monitor I'm trying to connect to is a Acer AL1916W (again not a great monitor but has worked flawlessly with every over computer connected to it including the Lenovo with the HDMI adaptor).
The Mac is defiantly recognising the monitor, it just can't seem to decide what to do with it, flashing up display property windows and swapping between settings before giving up and everything goes blank.
Any other suggestions very much appreciated.

  • Apple TV HDMI problem

    Hi All
This is my first time posting here. I just purchased an Apple TV and have tried to connect it up to the Pioneer Plasma (PDP50). I have a pioneer set top box, pioneer DVD player and recorder and pioneer Receiver. I can see an HDMI plug on the receiver but when I connect it from the Apple TV to the Reciver nothing happens. With the DVD recorder and Set top box I can’t seem to find the HDMI input. Also i can not locate a HDMI input directly on the TV. I am hoping someone can help me out here, as I have seen great reviews about the Apple TV.
    Thanks for your time.
    Cheers
    Matt

What inputs does your TV have? Apple TV only supports HDMI but some have had it working with a DVI-HDMI adapter. Make sure you can return in case it doesn't work as there is no guarantee.
It should work with DVI too, but there is still a problem with the Apple TV 2.
    From the FAQ on hdmi.org:
    Q. Is HDMI backward compatible with DVI (Digital Visual Interface)?
Yes, HDMI is fully backward compatible with DVI compliant devices. HDMI DTVs will display video received from existing DVI-equipped products, and DVI-equipped TVs will display video from HDMI sources. However, some older PCs with DVI are designed only to support computer monitors, not televisions. Consumers buying a PC with DVI should make sure that it specifically includes support for television formats and not just computer monitors.
Also, consumers may want to confirm that the DVI interface supports High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection (HDCP), as content that requires HDCP copy protection will require that both the HDMI and DVI devices support HDCP to properly view the video content.

  • NX8600GTS - Diamond Plus HDMI Problem

I have this new video card and am trying to connect a single display via HDMI only.  I do not wish to use DVI.  I'm having difficulity in setting this up properly.  I need help.  So far the only way I can get this to work is using Dual Display option and use DVI and then send the signal to the HDMI interface; however it requires the DVI connecter be active.  Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I too am having this problem!!  This is a serious problem that someone from MSI needs to address.  I bought this card to use on my HTPC in my living room on my new Sony 52" LCD for gaming and HDTV.  If I plug just the HDMI in then then everything works up until the point Windows is supposed to start, and the sytem goes still and no display unless I plug something into the DVI port, even a VGA adapter to the TV's built in PC input, then suddently the system starts to boot.  I don't want to have to flip back and forth just to get windows to boot everytime!
I did some searching on the internet and noticed other people have had this problem in the past with older model Nvidia cards like the 6800.  They appeared to have solved the problem by updating the Nvidia Bios with an ASUS version bios (even though their card was a different manufacturer).  I don't want to attempt this, but the moral of the story is it means the problem most likely is bios related, not driver.  Also the fact that Windows doesn't even boot yet, meaning the driver isn't even loaded yet, confirms that assumption.  What is probably happening is Windows is not detecting any displays so it doesn't boot.  I tried to update the MSI bios but apparently it's at the most current version, and there are no older versions listed for download I could try.
Can someone from MSI please help us out here with this problem?  Most of the people who buy this HDMI card want to plug it into their HDTV as the only display.  If you can't do that with the HDMI it's worthless for that use!

I have the same problem as the original poster with still no solution.
Maybe I can clear it up a little as far as the specific problem.
    Hardware:
MSI 8600GTS Diamond Plus (just one, no sli)
    MSI K9N SLI MB
    Corsair XMS2 Ram
    Sony Bravia 60" Projection TV
If I plug the video card into a regular monitor via DVI, video card works great. Boots into Windows XP, everything is good.
As soon as I disconnect the card from the monitor and move it to the tv and connect the tv via HDMI, system can boot into BIOS but after the summary screen, goes blank and Windows won't load. No HDD active LED, nothing.
As soon as I plug in a monitor via DVI, boot into Windows, plug in HDMI, switch to Multiple monitors, I can then use the TV as a monitor.
This wont due since I don't want to have a monitor sitting next to my TV all the time.
I don't want to use another output method for my TV as, the way my sound system is connected, I don't want to have to select different sound sources everytime I switch input's on my tv (if that makes sense to anyone).
I have done a MSILive BIOS update for the card but I'm not sure what it did since I didn't read the release notes.
Drivers have no affect in this problem since it doesn't physically boot into Windows anyway.
    ANY HELP WOULD BE AWESOME!!!
