23in monitor compatibility with 12 in G4 Powerbook

Hello,
I've got a 12in Powerbook and I want to buy an external flat panel monitor to use with it. Can anyone tell me if my little Powerbook can handle driving a 23in monitor? The monitor spec says it needs a DVI. My computer has a mini-DVI, and I know there are adapters. Is it that simple or do I have a limited graphics card?
HTK

Hi again ratlos,
good suggestions!
I do scare myself sometimes
A few questions about that:
Okay... ask away
external HD: if I install OS X, does it have to be an empty partition. Right now I use the external HD for backups (which obviously I don't want to delete:-).
Yes, OSX will have to be installed in an empty partition. I see that you do have an additional Mac. If there is enough space you could transfer the contents of the external hard disk to the Mac Mini thereby allowing you to format the external hd and install OSX to it.
Alternatively you could connect the external hd to the Mac Mini and 'burn' it's contents to DVD-R/CD-R media. Is this a viable option?
second Mac: I do have one but did not know about this option. Just to make sure: to start the other Mac (a Mini) in Firewire Target Disk mode, I have to press "T" while starting up the Mac Mini.
1. With both Macs switched off, connect them together with a firewire cable.
2. Switch on the Mac Mini and hold the "T" key until it goes into FTDM
3. Switch on the PowerBook and hold down the Option(alt) key. Within the Startup Manager screen select the Mac Mini hd and click on the arrow.
That's it. Post back on how you get on.

If you are using MIRROR mode, there is no way to get your widescreen monitor to mirror your PowerBook's 1024x768 dimensions since the laptop's monitor isn't widescreen as well.
If you TURN OFF MIRRORING and use the display as an extended desktop, then you can choose whatever resolution you want for your 19" Samsung display.
The main screen will always be what is reflected (thus mirroring) on the second monitor. If the second monitor is proportional to the main display, then it will match-- even if the second monitor is say, 1024x768 and your PowerBook is at 640x480.
But in your case, your 1024x768 will unfortunately, never match proportionally to a widescreen display and will be stretched out. (Unless, I just remembered, if you have special features on your display that allow it to have black bars on the side, like a "reverse" letterbox mode... LCD TVs have this feature, since you can double them as monitors in addition to TVs).
Vice versa would work if you set your main display as the widescreen LCD and choose your PowerBook's monitor set as the second display. You have to do this while your external monitor is connected of course.
Go to SYSTEM PREFERENCES > DISPLAYS > (choose the button for) ARRANGEMENT... and then it will tell you to drag the menubar to which monitor you want to be set as your main. The screen will light up red to let you know which one you're working with.

"Vice versa" I mean in MIRROR mode. Again, extended desktop mode (non-mirrored) will stay as whatever resolution you choose your external monitor to be.

  • Monitor compatibility with mac laptop

I am using a Mac Pro laptop with an HP 2511x external monitor. There seems to be some incompatability with these devices. When the Mac awakes from sleep mode, the HP monitor will only respond to turn on perhaps 20% of the time to recognize the computer. 80% of the time it does not find the computer and goes to sleep. The only fix I have right now is to unplug the power cord from the back of the monitor and reinsert to perhaps resetting the monitor at which time it will recognize the computer and everything will work fine until next time.Any thoughts would be appreciated.
    This question was solved.

    Hello @rotarypilot,
I understand that you are having difficulty with your HP 2511x External Monitor always being recoginised by your MAC Laptop. I am providing you with an HP Support document: Updating a Monitor Driver, which states.
"HP monitors are not supported in a Mac environment. However, newer Macs use graphics with VESA modes and can display to most HP LCD monitors. To do this, connect the monitor to the Mac while the Mac is off, and then turn on the MAC. The monitor should operate at 60Hz. The INF and software for the HP monitor are for Microsoft Windows and cannot be run in a standard MAC OS environment."
Basically, any support you will get with an HP Monitor on a MAC computer will have to come from MAC.
I hope I have answered your question to your satisfaction. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums. Have a great day!

  • G4 Power Mac compatibility with new monitor

Have a G4 Power Mac with dual 1.25 processors and a Radeon 9000 Pro graphics card. What limits on flat panel monitors does this system have? 22", 24" or resolution?

What monitors work with a given graphics card is limited by the resolution the card will support. Size of the screen, as such, is irrelevant. The Radeon 9000 I believe supports up to 1920 by 1200 pixels via ADC or DVI and up to 2048 by 1536 via VGA (through a VGA extractor).

    Hi,
Yes it is, you need the right port on your machine to connect to it. It has one VGA port and one DVD-D port.

  • Monitor compatibility

Good morning. Can anyone point me to a link on Apple's site for Mac mini monitor compatibility? I'm considering purchasing an Intel Mac mini because I have a monitor that is large and a little old but excellent. It's the ViewSonic CRT PS790 with a 15 pin mini Dhub VGA BNC connector. Will the DVI to ADC adapter work with this monitor?
    Thank you.

the 1.83 intel mini nicely handles my 22" Viewsonic LCD at 1650x1050.
I cannot imagine that it could not handle an older CRT at up to 1600x1200--though that might be high for that monitor, that's what my G3 can handle on an old "Sylvania" 19"although I usuall;y use 1024x968 simply so i can see what's being displayed<G>)
Push come to shove, Costco has 19" viewsonic LCD for less than $200

  • I want to upgrade to Lightroom 5, but I'm concerned about compatibility with my 2008 intel Core 2 Duo iMac with only 4G of Ram.  Will I be able to run Lighroom 5 if I upgrade from Snow Leopard to Lion?

I want to upgrade to Lightroom 5, but I'm concerned about compatibility with my 2008 intel Core 2 Duo iMac with only 4G of Ram.  Will I be able to run Lightroom 5 okay if I upgrade from Snow Leopard to Lion?  What will happen to the applications that aren't 64-bit compatible?  Also the Eye-one Display 2 colorimeter to calibrate the monitor will not run on Lion, so that will be an expensive upgrade to an i1DisplayPro. Is the upgrade important enough to offset the expense?  I have an Epson R2000 printer.  Will there be problems with the drivers if I upgrade to Lion?  It would be great to hear from other mac users who are also photographers and who print their own photos.

Before upgrading to Lion be sure to read this link:
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-6271
    Adobe lists these requirements:
    http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshop-lightroom/tech-specs.html
Looking at http://www.everymac.com/ even the earliest 2008 iMac was fully 64 bit, even though Boot Camp doesn't support 64 bit Windows on that machine.

  • Compatibility with Windows Mobile 5.0 ?

Does anyone know if Flex apps would work on PocketPCs, ie.
    using Windows Mobile 5.0?
    I haven't purchased one yet, so I can't test.
At this link, Adobe identifies Flash Player 7 for Pocket PC:
    http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer_pocketpc/
This page identifies FlashLite 2.1 which seems to be based on
    Flash Player 7
but includes Action Script 2.0 support:
    http://www.adobe.com/products/flashlite/
Does anyone know for sure? We'd like to do some monitoring
    & reporting
in Flex & make it available on the go for people, but
don't want to go buy the phones
until we know it is possible.
    Thanks

If so, then Flash is installed fine. Note, though, that Flash
    content will
only play when viewed in a browser (html file) or when
    embedded in an

  • Premier pro 5.5 not compatable with windows 7 64 bit

I have recently spent over 3.5 hours on the phone live only to be told they can't fix the problem of Premier pro shutting down in Windows 7 64bit every time I try to open it.
I was told to install Pro 4.  I have pro 4 and that is why I bought 5.5  Now I can't get pro 4 to work either it also is shutting down.  Has anyone had the problem.  I believe Adobe has left me hanging after spending 495.

I was finally luckey enough to get a tech on the phone.  To get the tech I had to call sales and explain what was happening , that the 800-833 6687 would get me to choice 2 for tech help and then hang  up.  This happened yesterday 10-28-2011 roughly 18 times.  The sales person was kind enough to stay on the phone and verify what I was saying and go through the connections and get me to a tech who knew what he was doing and take the time to do it.  It took roughly 1hour and 30 minutes to determine that the video card was the problem.  The adobe site lists my card and compatable with the suite.  I took the machine to Best Buy tech
and tried to show him the problem and the system worked.  I recreated the scene at home and found the difference was that BB was using only one monitor.  Premier Pro 5.5 is the only part of the suite that will not work with dual monitors.  For 3 days I have spent countless hours and exausted patience only to solve the problem myself.  So much for Adobe tech help.

  • Sceptre monitor compatibility

I have been using my 19" Sceptre Monitor (X19GV-HDTV) off my MBP for a year and it works perfectly. I have since have tried to get it to work with two Mac Mini's, a 2012 model, and a 2010 model, and the monitor gives me the message "Unsupported Mode", after using every adapter and cable, i contacted Sceptre tec support, and now they are suggesting I get from Apple  "Monitor Compatibility". Does anyone know where i can find this?

    Hi Paul,
Both VGA & HDMI don't work?
Could the Mini's have been set to a higher resolution before attaching this Monitor?
If so try booting up holding the SHIFT key when it's connected.

  • Wierd monitor compatibility problem

    Hi all,
Got a wierd monitor compatibility problem. G3 works fine on a sony 21" CRT.
Connected it to a Daytec 15" CRT which works fine with a windows 98 PC.
With the G3 I get the apple and the spinning up logo then the screen just goes blank.
Is this monitor PC only or something? It is an old monitor but I thought any monitor should work
    if the vga connector fits?

So you are using this directly plugged into the stock Display card in a Blue & White G3 with NO adapter?
The Mac is probably still set for a higher resolution that the SONY can do, and has not noticed the display has changed.
Video pros says that Video can be plugged and unplugged all day long with no bad effects. If your old display is still around, try setting it to 640 by 480, save changes, and swap the other one in "live" at that resolution.
    Other tricks:
Reset the PRAM. This will send you back to a default setting while booting up, but may change when the system becomes active.
Boot from a CD. This ignores the settings on your Hard drive, and boots to a very simple resolution like 640 by 480 to ensure that Most Macs can start up with it.

  • Apple ColourSync 20 inch monitor compatible with G5?

Is the Apple ColourSync 20 inch monitor compatible with G5?

Yes, using the DVI to VGA adapter included with your G5 and a VGA to Macintosh Video adapter that you'll have to purchase elsewhere. Griffin has one (the Mac Connect) and you and probably find one elsewhere as well. For full information on monitor compatibility, see:

    Daniel Craigie-
How full is the hard drive that you are trying to save to? Not that it should matter, but have you tried scanning another document?
Is the scanner plugged directly into the Mac? Try it that way.
Disconnect all peripherals except keyboard, monitor, mouse and scanner and see if the problem goes away.

    Hi Frederick,
You're spending a lot of money.  I will add my 2¢ -- -- but you must, as I assume you know, fully research your options.
    Environment:
Start with your workspace (inc. lighting) and your clothes.
    Screen:
The iMac screens are lovely, but not, from what I hear, monitor-grade accurate.  For critical color work, use NEC or Eizo monitors.  I use NEC, with their SpectraView II software and an X-Rite ColorMunki photospectrometer.  At the time, this was the least expensive color-calibrated workflow.
    Printer:
Epson's are great, imho.  I use a 3880 in my studio and rent a 9900 by the hour when needed.  I have read of problems (iirc) with one of the printers in the 7000 line, however.  The take-home lesson that I filed in my brain was, "If you're going to spend the money on the 7000 line, just get the 9000 line."
    Aperture workflow:
Aperture is a fantastic workflow tool.  Since you are adept with PS, you should set PS as your external editor.  Use Apertures formidable tools for storing and organizing your Images, and its robust editing tools for either all your proofing, or all but your most demanding editing needs.  That said, allow a good bit of time to get the feel of Aperture.  It is not at all like Bridge.  But your important choice is which RAW converter you want to use.  There is, imho, no reason to use Aperture if you are going to use Adobe's (or anyone else's) RAW converter.
    Good luck!
