24-bit 192kHz

Does iTunes support 24-bit depth and 192kHz sampling frequency high definition audio? If so, 1) What audio format is necessary - Apple Lossless, other? 2) What S/W / H/W combination is necessary to record such audio (wish to digitize my LPs in 24-bit, 192kHz (9216 kbps)?
Notebook Pro 15"   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

I personllay like the m audio cards. I got the delta 410 on sale a few months ago for about 80 bucks. It has 2 analog in 8 analog out. 1 spdif in. and 1 out. You don't need to spend 400-500 for 24/192. check the Audiophile card as well, I don't think they make the 410 anymore (the internal one anyway). Most import you must make sure your software is converting to this format. I have Nero full version, but I'm not sure what sample rates are possible. Foobar2000 is a free music player with great plugins. If you dig around the formus there you will probably be able to find a lot of help. Their forum is hosted by Hygrogenaudio. If you are willing to spend a little time researching you can save a lot of money. Also, I believe the creative cards upmix the 24 bit. I don't think the pro cards do. I'm sure some moderator will argue about this. I'm going to help my stepdad record his records in a few weeks, I just haven't looked into the software much as of yet. If you only need the card to record the records, see if anyone you know has a DAC you could use so you won't have to buy anything. Well I hope I helped a bit.

  • I could record at 192kHz in AA 1.5, but not in AA 3.  Help?

I really hope I'm in the right section and also am not missing the answer in another post.
Anyways, I have a SB Audigy 2 Platinum soundcard that's serviced me great for 4 years. I used to record everything, vocals, DVD sound, etc. in 192kHz/32 bit (float) while using AA 1.5, and then converted to whatever format I needed later.
Needing to reformat seemed like a good excuse as any to upgrade to AA 3. But now when I want to record anything, I get a "will only go as high as your hardware sampling rate" message, regardless of the selected input. The SB card boasts of 24-bit/192kHz stereo playback and 96kHz recording. I'm not asking the sound card to record anything (it actually comes with it's own stream recorder and wav editor that I don't use), just "play" the DVD or my microphone at 192kHz, and AA should be down to record it that way.
That's what I imagine AA 1.5 was doing. In fact, I reinstalled 1.5 and it is politely complying with my tyrannical demands to record from Backyardigans DVDs at an unreasonable 192kHz.
    Am I missing something?

Hmmm...lots to think about, thanks for a quick reply.
Let's see, I installed a dual-boot system so I'm in the fortuitous position of having installed the included drivers from the CD on the serious serious "DAW" OS, and I used Driver Detective to find me the supposedly updated-est drivers on the "general" OS. Same symptoms on both. On the device manager, the general OS 'Creative SB Audigy' tab actually has WDM in parenthesis which I don't remember pre-reformat. I have to admit, I don't know what WDM means.
I recall that years ago, after installing the soundcard included copy of Steinberg - Cubasis VST 4.0 Creative Edition + Wavelab Lite 2.0 (breath), I noticed an ASIO thing in the programs list. The SB box also says in big letters that it supports ASIO (16-bit/48kHz). 2nd admission of ignorance: I don't know what ASIO means either and how it affects anything, even after reading about it on Wikipedia.
I never used Cubasis or Soundforge. I cut my teeth on Cool Edit and have followed it around through AA 1.5 while my beautiful Yamaha MD8 sits dusty on the shelf.
I will install Cubasis and see if the installation of ASIO changes anything.

  • How to get the Mac Mini Digital Audio output at 192kHz?

I have a mid 2011 Mac Mini (and love it). According to http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4806, "The headphone / line output port accommodates digital optical audio output, analog audio output with a 24-bit, 44.1-192 kHz D/A converter, digital audio output up to 24-bit stereo and 44.1-192 kHz sampling rate and supporting encoded digital audio output (AC3 and DTS)."
So there is digital audio output to 192 kHz but how do you configure it to work? Using the Audio Midi Setup Utility, I can set the sample rate to 96000 Hz -- but it won't go higher to 192kHz. Anyone know how to do this?

That is in some ways confusing.  For the analog output, the
internal DAC can support 24 bit/192Khz audio data.  It does
require an application that has the capability of playing back
    such material.
The TOSLINK optical standard does not support this data rate.
It has nothing to do with the Mini, it is the standard itself.  The
TOSLINK optical spec is 96 kHz, 24 bit stereo (uncompressed).
The mini will however support multichannel, 24 bit, 192 kHz
(uncompressed) via the HDMI interface.  Also, again,
the playback software needs to support it.
Just as a final note, unless the source material has the
higher sample rate format, there is no benifit to outputing
at the higher sample rate, especially if the source some
lossy comporessed format (mp3, aac, Dollby and DTS
    non-HD formats).

  • Mac Pro RAID block size recommendations for working with audio in Logic Pro

I have recently ordered a Mac Pro and plan to do a RAID configuration across 3 HDD's
The RAID type i am going to do is a RAID 0 striped.
The computer is going to be used primarily for audio post production and working with 20+ 24-Bit audio files at any one time within a Logic project.
I want to know what is the best block size i should use when configuring the RAID.
I understand that using a higher block size is best for working with large files but do i need to do this in my case or will the default 32k block size be enough?
    Thanks in advance

Use 64k. Things like databases like having 32k blocks because of all the small files. Audio files are pretty small even at 24-bit 192KHz. Go to 128k if all you are doing is streaming and no samples. But 20+ 24-bit is really not too large anyway considering most modern HDD's can stream 100MB/s off one spindle. You'll probably be fine regardless of the block size you choose. But most audio pro's choose 64k.

  • Could I get some help second guessing myself?

Hi I am building a set of new systems for work.
We  are a small graphics and animation house with 3 animators. Earlier this  year we lost our 2 editors, one to retirement and one who decided to go  do his own thing.
So at the moment things are relatively  good as we are getting a good deal of 2d and 3d animation work. I was  tasked by my boss to come up with new systems that would "for now"  bridge the gap for company that would be 3 all a round systems for 3 all  a round broadcast generalist.
Our core software that we  use is Autodesk Max/Maya and the CS5 production suite. Our use breakdown  is around 50% 3d and 50% compositing/editing per job. Our editing  demands are not full 24/7 editing but mostly rough cuts for compositing.  My boss would like us to strech ourselves even a little bit thinner  than we are and for us animators to be able to do unsupervised edits and  in our 2 edit suites still hire full freelance editors on a per project  basis until we can hire a new editor(s).
Here is what I can up with and a few notes. PLEASE any thoughts are welcome.
OS: Windows & professional 64  bit
    Motherboard:
    Supermicro  H8DGi-F
    CPU's: (x2)
    Opteron X12 6134 G34 2.3G
Notes 16 cores total the most that Adobe and Mental Ray under Max and Maya I think will handel
    GPU
    PNY nVidia Quadro  4000
Had  to got *pro card here it's not the fastest but unfortunatly the drivers  for 3d are important to us, to the point we just could not pass them  up.
    Memory:
    G.SKILL 4GB 8 kits (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin  DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333
32 Gig total that means we should be able to support 9 fully funded cores for HD 1080 work for rendering in AE/Premier correct?
    PSU:
Corsair Professional Series Gold  High Performance 750-Watt Power Supply CMPSU-750AX
Needed for the pin outs for the AMD motherboard. I think I got enough voltage if I did my math right yes/no?
    OS Drive:
Revo Drive 120 GB PCI Express solid  state RAID drive
Used  this drive so as to not take up a Motherboard SATA slot so I can  squeeze 1 more drive into the raid and still have a DVD/Blueray burner.  Given that it should act speed wise in parity with the raid as well  seemed like a great option...or was I wrong?
    Raid Drives:  (x5)
    SAMSUNG - SPINPOINT F1 DESKTOP CLASS  1TB 7200RPM 32MB
Seem  like the most common raid drives atm from what I have seen. A vendor we  are working with suggested instead that we use the Seagate  Constellation™ ES drives but I am unsure. I was also told that yes even  though motherboard raid controllers are bad that 5 of either of these  drives should be able to play back an uncompressed HD 1080 stream. is  this correct?
    Blueray/DVD
    LITE-ON Black 12X BD-R 2X BD-RE 16X  DVD+R 12X DVD-RAM 8X BD-ROM
anyone know if this drive is compatible with encore I cannot seem to find the encore compatibility list?
    Audio Card
ASUS Xonar DS 7.1 Channels 24-bit  192KHz PCI Interface Audio Card
included for compatiblity sake here just in case someone has used this card and has had problems.
    Monitors (x2)
    Dell UltraSharp U2211H 21.5"W  Monitor
IPS panels with display ports...they don't have the highest refresh rates  but most ips panels don't, from what I see should I go with PVA Panels  instead here? Still will need a display port hook up if I don't as the  Quadro 4000 only has one DVI and I hate non native connectors.
    additional questions: \
I  see all the top performers in Harms' list are in the 980x camp and I  would like to explore this option but intels hold such little amounts of  ram. I know that a lot of the premier performance is on the Cuda side  now for simple things, but for more complex tasks I thought 1080p HD  required 3 gig per core to process a frame. I look at the pass mark  scores and just don't see them doing as well as they do if given a 12  Gig system, what am I missing?
The  reason I am posting this system here is frankly of all the disciplines we  cover at work I know the least about editing and Premier. I know for 3  the purposed system is A level and on the compositing side still in the B  level because the disk perf and ram are in order with the CPU's but is  this system ok for editing tasks?
Our  budget is around $4500 per system given that our demands are pretty  steep covering 3d/2d/compositing and some editing how did I do?
    -Carl
second guessing myself like crazy because as a company we need to hit this nail on the head.
    *edited for spelling mistakes

Mulitple GTX 470 shouldn't cause any problems running in Premiere Pro CS5, although as you seem to be aware, they will not offer any additional performance improvements within Premiere.  They will provide very good performance with iRay under 3DMax, although you should be aware that Geforce cards do not support the 3DSmax performance drivers and will perform poorly compared to the Quadro 4000 you mentioned in both Max and Maya.

  • Logic express disk slow

just tried to record from my boss dr880 (bass drum machine) and im getting an error disk to slow. i use an edirol 24 bit 192khz (roland product) fire wire fa-66. what can i do?

But are you recording at 24/192?
Then you will need a very very fast hard disk, better a RAID 0 one.

  • ITunes not running on Windows XP

I've downloaded the latest version of iTunes. It worked the first few times I ran it, but then all of a sudden it refused to open when I clicked it. I get a message saying "iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." Then I have the options of debug, Send error report, dont send error report. I've re-downloaded and installed iTunes several times now and I still get the same message, any ideas as to whats going on?
      Windows XP

I had a similar issue - iTunes using ~40% of cpu when playing audio. I had a brain flash the other day, and remembered that when going through the Quicktime Preferences I had set the audio format for my soundcard (M-Audio Revolution 7.1) at 24 bit/192kHz. I had thought the setting was asking for the maximum capability of the card. In fact, what it says is "Select the output format supported by your audio hardware." After a little detective work, I realized that this setting was causing iTunes and Quicktime to up-convert everything to 24/192. Since 99% of what I play in iTunes is encoded natively at a sampling rate of 44.1kHz (mp3,AAC) I went ahead and changed the audio format to 24/44.1 in the QT preferences. iTunes now uses less than 10% of my cpu. Hope this helps!

  • Harman Kardon

OK I'm about to give up and abandon my prejudice for surround sound. I suppose I can still listen in stereo and at least the kids have the option of using it when I'm not there.
Someone has told be there is a Harman Kardon receiver in cash converters for just over a £ 100, no idea what model and I don't suppose it's the latest model but it does sound quite cheap and in 'as new condition', so I don't suppose it will hurt too much.
Not being all that interested in this area I really don't know what I'm buying, does anyone know whether this is a good brand or even better know of any issues with the tv. Can't say I've heard of it before or seen it mentioned on these forums, unlike Yamaha and Onkyo. So either no one here has this brand or there aren't any reported issues.
I realise without a model number it's difficult to comment on the receiver, but I'm more interested in a comment on the brand at this time. Whilst I haven't had any interest in receivers to date, I'm not completely blind to the technical side and should be able to decide from the specs exactly what it does, I just won't know how well this brand does what it does.

Many high-end audio manufacturers to my mind though have lost out with the digital 'revolution', as reasonable quality goods are available for often a fraction of the cost of similar items 20 years ago.
Just to expand on that, before widespread DVD and home cinema options were available, specialist hi-fi stores could still do well from high-end stereo audio kit.
These days though consumers want kit that is a jack of all trades and the perception of value for money factors highly. 'True hi-fi' products have been marginalised by the home cinema factor, and many hi-fi stores who used to turn their noses up at anything other than pure stereo have had to adopt cheaper AV kit simply to stay afloat.
As with all purchases there's often a law of diminishing returns with hi-fi. The £5000 separates system will be far better than the £500 all in one mini system, but not 10x as much.
How do you attract the average consumer to spend a few hundred pounds on a 'quality' DVD player when they're £15 in Argos or Asda - it has to do a heck of a lot more to justify the price tag, whereas as an early adopter I was happy to pay nearly £600 for my first DVD player some 10 years ago. I would be very reluctant to do so now.
High-end manufacturers also sometimes seem completely out of touch with reality in terms of pricing - for example I've just had an invite from the local hi-fi dealer to go to an evening demo of a Naim hard drive based player.
The spec includes 2x400GB mirrored internal drives, USB and network functionality, and undoubtedly very high quality audio circuitry. It can output/playback non-DRM FLAC at up to 24 bit 192kHz which admitedly AppleTV cannot, but even though I'd love to have one for it's sonic prowess, I have to wonder how much better it can sound compared to the AppleTV when it costs £4,500 vs £200! The interface also looks clunky - onboard TFT display - you may be able to connect to a TV but looks like it's composite or S-video only! You appear to be able to connect a keyboard/mouse and control from a PC.
Now I'm sure the Naim device will sound very good, and if it includes a high-end CD player anyway might be more justifiable, but in terms of VFM AppleTV blows it out of the water.
I guess there are plenty of people out there though that have no desire to use a computer and would be happy to pay for a high-end all in one solution.
Sorry to digress - more of a blog type comment!

  • Digital Audio Input Specs

I'm looking for detailed specs or info about the digital audio input (mini 1/8" hybrid input) on the MBP. More specifically, I would like to know if the audio passed through (at up to 24 bit/192kHz) is free at the receiving end (within Logic) from sample rate conversion and work length truncation as well as handled "transparently" (without going through internal level control, dithering or noise shaping of any kind).
In other words, Is the 1/8" spdif audio input "transparent" and suitable for professional audio recording via a high end AD converter?
Thanks to anyone who has some info on the subject.

thanks for the link to that doc, actually had seen it already. it's good but it doesn't really give exactly the information audio pros are looking for.
as for the wordclock via BNC, that is not necessarily true. word clock is also a part of the spdif spec, it can be included in the stream. back in the day, eons ago when I had a DAT recorder and a yamaha 03D digital mixer, I would always make sure that the DAT recorder was the clock master, and the 03D synced to it. there was never any need for a BNC connection, it all went through the spdif itself. sending wordclock through BNC cables is really for when you have many digital devices and you need to chain them together to sync wordclock, it's not necessary for just going between two devices.
but, do you know for a fact that somehow the spdif on the MBP simply leaves out wordclock data? if that's the case, then why does it give you options for choosing which source to use as the clock? if it were only possible via BNC cables, then having that option would be pointless unless there were BNC ports on the MBP, last time I checked there weren't any.
...I guess we really need proper info on this..

  • QuantumWave Sound vs. ?

Hi guys - just wondering how the Quantum Wave card compares to a discrete audio card - for listening to music especially.
I'm just beginning to learn about sound cards, why they're better - a little confused by the Quantum Wave specs - 24-bit / 192kHz - that's as good as it gets right? For a consumer sound card I mean.
But maybe the specs don't matter if the DAC(s) and the rest of the electronics are low-end parts...?
anyway - I don't expect a whole primer on sound cards (!) - but can you tell me, in your opinion - with a decent set of computer speakers (Logitech, Bose 3, whatever) - should a dedicated sound card improve the sound of the music, make a noticeable difference over the Quantum Wave card?
Thanks you guys, for whatever thoughts you'd care to share...
    -Richard

Thanks Joe - I realize a set of speakers is a better "bang for your buck" proposition but I can't afford them (plus the receiver/amp) so these Logitechs will have to do. They're 5.1 and they're okay for now. Like I said I'm not looking for studio-quality, I'd just like to get away from "muddy" is all.
I generally use VLC - haven't tried Winamp in ages - all the bells and whistles were too much for me after awhile - that was 5 years ago though so maybe it's easier on the eyes nowadays  . I always really did like the sound from Winamp.
Ya Henry you're right, the comments around the web aren't real good about the Quantum Wave card, which is partly why I want to swap it out - I know it's not just me, and it's probably not the speakers. Computer speakers will only get you so far of course but these Logitechs should sound better than they do. Even the pair of Gigaworks I've got hooked up to my laptop sound better - cleaner anyway.
I'll probably buy the Xonar DX 7.1 - there's a $20 rebate till the end of Dec. Final price is about $60 so for that price I guess I can't go too wrong.
    Thanks again you guys!

  • Third party DVD player issues

Recently, I have come across an issue playing back DVD's with
VLC or XBMC. When I start playback of the DVD, it plays the first
segment ( the studio leader at the beginning) and will then just quit.
Apple's DVD Player works fine (quality is crappy and can't get surround
tracks out of it). Yet, when the DVD is ripped to the hard drive and
played from there, it is works just fine.
Also, this happens when the DVD is played back from an internal
    or external drive.
Has anyone else seen this issue or do I have a unique problem?

My unit is a 2010 MacMini with HDMI. (see list)
The quality issues with Apple DVD player vs. other solutions are certain
scenes have a graininess akin to noise on old analog tv's that aren't
present on the other players and severe banding in gradients that
do not appear in other players, at least when they were working.
As far as the audio, selection in the DVD's menu itself just makes no difference.
Tried all the combinations of messing with Audio MIDI setup, third party
plugins like Perian, none of which work for Apple's DVD player. This was
the other reason for going to third party players, the higher quality video
    was just a bonus.
Your point has been taken that it may be a software issue with the third party players.
Some update at some point may have broken them, be it OSX or their own.
I've beaten the Apple DVD player issue enough, let's just consider the topic dead.
The audio issues with it are spread over many, many threads across the web, with
no silver bullet solution to all.
As for BluRays, play them back all the time on my Mini. Either with
    PowerDVD 10 in a Bootcamp windows7 when I want full DTS-HD or
TRUE HD decoding (decodes these to up to 24 bit,192kHz 7.1 since the
Mini chipset does not have the "protected" path for pass through of
these technologies) or a MakeMKV/XBMC combo in OSX. The OSX
solution doesn't give you the fancy menus and all or HD audio if present,
but if I only want to watch the movies it's fine. If I ever do want the other
nonsense, I just use PowerDVD 10. And please note this is BluRay disk
in player, not "ripped" or transcoded.
I do appreciate your help, but was primarily curious if others had issue
    as well.

  • MSI P67A-C45 - many general questions

I've recently bought this motherboard, I've a couple of questions:
    1) Is there any guide explaining all the UEFI settings?
    2) I've installed the Ethernet driver (from the MSI site), the chipset driver for Series 6 Chipsets (from the Intel site), the Renesas USB 3.0 driver (MSI site), did I do the correct things?
About the UEFI, I haven't updated it but it works fine, what should I do? The only problem I noticed is that when going in or out of a menu it freezes for a second or less, doesn't seem a big issue to me.
    3) In device manager, there is a PCI Simple Communications Controller without a driver, where can I find it? What is it for?
    4) I am seriuosly thinking of keeping my "bugged" motherboard. The reason is because I have only 2 SATA device, one is a HD and the other a DVD writer (the latter is used very rarely), both of which are currently connected to the SATA III ports. I've also read that MSI will stop updating the UEFI for my motherboard and only continue with the B3, this is not a problem since I don't overclock and the UEFI works fine. What do you think?
Will the warranty of the bugged motherboard be comprimised in any way?
    5) In case I decide to change my motherboard with the B3, what do I need the send back to MSI? I mean, do I need to send the manual and all the original bags/accessories?
When I get my B3 motherboard, do I have to reinstall the OS (in my case Windows 7)?
6)Can you tell me the use of the following programs/drivers:
Intel Management Engine Driver for P67/H67
Intel SandyBridge Chipset Driver - This should be the INF drivers I downloader form the Intel site, anyway what are they for?
Renesas USB3.0 Drivers - Do I need these or does the SP1 of Windows 7 include USB 3.0 drivers?
    Intel TPM Device Driver
Realtek PCI-E Ethernet Drivers - I had to install these, strangely on my previous motherboard (always with Windows 7) these were not required, why is it so?
Realtek High Definition Audio Driver - I've always used the default Windows 7 drivers and they seem to work fine, should I install these anyway? In my motherboard's description I read "Lossless 24-bit/192KHz HD Audio - Don’t be fooled by other inferior audio solutions onboard (sometimes you can’t even find the driver!)" so I should get them from the MSI site or the Realtek one? Anyway I'm using the onboard audio connected to a 2.0 cheap setup.
Intel Matrix Storage Manager Driver - First thing, now it's called Intel Rapid Storage Technology. Anyway I tried installing it but the OS hangs on boot (Windows is starting screen), so I reinstalled the OS and left the default Windows 7 driver. Since I have a single HD, I don't think there should a big performance difference, what do you think? The HD is set as AHCI in the UEFI.
Don't know if it matters, but I've done a UEFI installation of Windows 7 64-bit.
    Thanks for any help.

Realtek PCI-E Ethernet Drivers - I had to install these, strangely on my previous motherboard (always with Windows 7) these were not required, why is it so?
Well, there was probably a different Ethernet Controller on our previous board for which Windows 7 provided generic drivers.

Renesas USB3.0 Drivers - Do I need these or does the SP1 of Windows 7 include USB 3.0 drivers?
    I recommend the Renesas drivers.

Intel SandyBridge Chipset Driver - This should be the INF drivers I downloader form the Intel site, anyway what are they for?
Those are the chipset drivers for the chipset's functional components.  Nothing more to say about those really.  Install them.

Does not really matter. If you find more updated drivers on the Realtek Site, then use those.  MSI doesn't really make its own drivers but gets them from Realtek as well.

The installation should not cause the OS to hang.  Which version of the RST Package did you install?

  • Can't get Surround Sound to Work [Xonar DS]!

My speakers and such work fine by themselves, but only the front left and front right speakers will work in Premiere Pro when I have them set to surround sound.
I've checked in Windows Control Panel and the speakers are set up and work as 5.1.
I've been through all the settings in the "Xonar DS Audio Center" control panel and everything is set up the same.
The Xonar ASIO settings are at 32-bit with a 10ms latency.
    [specs]
    Windows 7 Ultimate
    Premiere Pro CS6 (Creative Cloud)
    ASUS Xonar 7.1 24-bit 192kHz Sound Card
Under Preferences | Audio Hardware, Default Device only lists "Premiere Pro WDM Sound."
The ASIO Settings button shows my output speakers checked as "Speakers (ASUS Xonar DS Audio Device)."
I've tried the "Device 32-bit Playback" button checked and unchecked.
Under Preferences | Audio Output Mapping, it lists only two speakers as left and right: "Speakers (ASUS Xonar DS Audio Device) - 1" and "Speakers (ASUS Xonar DS Audio Device) - 2."
The sequence is properly set up as 5.1.
When playing audio, I can pan left and right, but nothing comes from the center or rear speakers. If I drag the little puck in the Audio Mixer to one of the rear speakers, it properly lowers the volume for the front speakers, but still I hear nothing from the rear.
    Help! Thanks!

Well, it previously had only "Premiere Pro WDM Sound" or "Adobe DV" listed, the former being chosen.
However, after updating my driver from 7.12.8.1792 (packaged) to 7.12.8.1794, the option "Xonar DS ASIO(64)" appears. Success, I think. Not so much.
[This adds options for 8 channels (L,R,Ls,Rs,C,Sub,Lb,Rb), of which all but the last two have area selections. The first two, L and R, have left and right button selections as well.]
Unfortunately, whenever I choose the Xonar option and click OK, nothing changes. I go back to Audio Output Mapping and it's defaulted back to "Premiere Pro WDM Sound." Ideas?
    Thanks.

  • TRUE BLU-RAY AUDIO - X58 Pro-E very important question !

    I have a problem.
I want to buy a motherboard with X58 Pro-E and build HTPC HD Audio.
What does this mean "TRUE BLU-RAY AUDIO" ?
There is no HDMI output, only S/PDIF !!!!!
    - There is no HD audio bitstream (DTS-HD MA/TrueHD) - no HDMI !!!
    - Does not decode HD Audio -> LPCM 7.1 - no HDMI !!!
    - That decodes the HD Audio (7.1) to analog?
    - If only decodes HD from Blu-Ray Stereo (via. SPDIF)?
What does this mean "TRUE BLU-RAY AUDIO" on MSI motherboard ?
    Regards.

      >> TRUE BLU-RAY AUDIO <<
    • The loss-less content protection technology with full-rate audio enjoyment from Blue-ray Disc
    • Support for 24-bit / 192kHz sample rate offers high quality digital decoders and speakers
    • support 7.1 channels playback, plus 2 channels of independent stereo sound output (multiple streaming) through the front panel stereo outputs
There is no HDMI because there is no onboard video. The video card you get would need to have HDMI output.
LPCM: Linear Pulse Code Modulation. It is an algorithm used to convert analog audio to digital. It gives pure loss less representation of the original analog audio in digital.
7.1 is the latest in speaker configuration. Mono is one speaker, stereo is two, 5.1 has 5. The problem with 5.1 is it produces angled audio. To get the best out put you have to sit in the center and all speakers have to be placed the right way. 7.1 solves those problems, even if the speakers are not perfectly aligned you still get very good results.
S/PDIF-out JSP1 on MB connects to video card for HDMI sound.
