24-bit sound

Is it possible to play 24-bit sound with LabView using SO config SO write
etc.?
TM

Of course I'm not sure what device you're talking about...
But I looked into this one of these Soundblaster 5.1 cards as a possible
cheap 24-bit alternative to the NI cards. When I called the creative labs
developer support group and pressed them for information, they claimed that
the card in question actually was normal 16-bit I/O and the 24-bit
advertised on the box was only in some internal sections of the card.
So in the end Labview only supported the 16-bit modes, but the soundcard
specs were kind of deceptive anyway and I couldn't have done 24-bit
acquisition. Double check with the developer support line for your hardware
so you're not on a wild goose chase like I was.

Hi, I was wondering if anyone knew where I could find a 64 bit sound card driver for the above!!
    Thanks
    Nick

Did you first install the UAA driver from the same section? Check in Device Manager under System Devices to see if MS UAA installed properly.
There should be a listing for Microsoft UAA Bus Driver for High Definition Audio.
If not,you should have a PCI with yellow!.Right click it and Update Driver,No to Connect,No to Search and last Install Automatically.
    Reboot to check status.
If no joy try this DRIVER

  • 12 bit and 16 bit sound

I have a camera that can use two audio inputs.
    Sony DSR-PD170. There is no
When I use one mic, it records on both channnels. I assume this is 16 bit.
When I use only both mics, one records on one channel, the second mic records on the other channel. I hope this is 16 bit also.
How do I check ,in ImovieHD (5), whether the sound I have recorded is 12 or 16 bit sound?
I hope this isnt a dumb question.

    Hi Dan
Only dumb questions in my universe is questions not
    asked !
One way to figur out is to load a eg one hour tape
    into iMovie.
    - sound in sync - should be 16-bit
    - sound going more and more out of sync - 12-bit
    Recording in LP-mode = 12-bit sound and lot's of
    other problems.
Probably there are more clever way to get this but
    this is my exp.
On my two Cameras I had to go to their menus and set
    16-bit audio.
    Yours Bengt W
My little Canon had a 12/16 bit setting. This one does not.
After reading a little further, I have two audio modes. FS32K(12bit) This allows recording on channels 3 & 4
FS48K(16bit). Cannot record on channels 3&4.
    I hate learning new things.

  • R4388 Sound Blaster(R) Live!(TM) 24-bit Sound Card - Is it ASIO compati

I am trying to configure my computer to allow my husband to run Sibelius (music software) on it. I am upgrading to GB RAM (using XP serv pack 2) and installing another 250GB hard dri've.But I am using the R4388 Sound Blaster(R) Li've!(TM) 24-bit Sound Card and according to the website of Sibelius I need the soundcard to be ASIO compatible, but I don't know if that is?Can anyone here help me, I'd really appreciate the help. I'm happy to upgrade my sound card if necessary.

If your computer has any VIA chipset, and if your computer has any of the following problems, then you might need this driver.
The computer stops ("freezes", "hangs", "locks up"), or makes unusual noises when playing sounds.</LI>
The computer stops, or files are corrupted, when copying to or from an IDE DVD, CDROM, or CDRW dri've.</LI>
Sounds played by the computer are distorted or have a "crackling" noise.</LI>
The computer stops when playing 3D graphics or games, especially on an ATI Radeon series video card</LI>
There is a patch for VIA chipset and the patch WORKS for me! Try them at - http://www.georgebreese.com/net/software/ Look under "PCI Latency" patch for VIA chipsets.

  • Windows 7 64 bit Sound Card Problem

In January 2009, we had a 64 bit operating system problem http://forums.adobe.com/message/1015026#1015026. Our software, which was published using Version 6.5, was freezing on a customer’s computer on playing the first sound file, then if the sound file was by-passed, on displaying the first swf. The problem was eventually resolved by Mike Baker publishing our a6p file in Authorware 7, and this cured the fault. So we upgraded to Authorware 7.02 and since then no further problems ... until December 2010.
We launched our Italian Course late November and had a not dissimilar sort of problem reported by a customer. He's tried uninstalling & re-installing the software but the fault keeps re-occurring. The computer displays a "not responding" message. Debugging, we discovered that the message appears when trying to play the initial mp3 file (fixed bit rate) … the program does eventually continue but without playing the sound file. It then keeps hanging (there are thousands of sound files in our course), and none of the sound files play: text & pictures are displaying normally. Eventually the program freezes and has to be killed with ctrl+alt+delete.
The computer in question is a Dell Inspiron 580s, & the operating system Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit. I’m awaiting details of the sound card & confirmation that his drivers are up-to-date but I presume they will be (Windows 7 default is to keep drivers updated). I haven’t got the customer to carry out basic tests sound file tests yet, but he indicates no problems with Media Player or with iTunes.
Extras in our XTRAS folder include:-
    AWMP3.X32
    MIX32.X32
    MIXVIEW.X32
    NETFILE.X32
    SWADCMPR.X32
    VIEWSVC.X32
    INETURL.X32
    FLASHASSET/FLASHAST.X32
The database for our Italian course is now in ProgramData. (previous courses, database was in Program Files and run in XP compatible mode). We’re having problems with this location with Windows 7 64 bit … it is maintaining a copy in Virtual Store and updating the file there. No such problem with XP, Vista or Windows 7 32 bit. I see this as an unrelated problem. We got the customer to run the software in XP mode but the problem was not corrected.
We do have customers successfully running our software on Windows 7 64 bit operating system computers; we had a minor ODBC glitch reported recently from a 64 bit user.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Tom,
I concur with Steve that this is probably system-specific. A couple of things you may want to try:
    1. Be sure you're using the Xtras that came with Authorware 7.02 and not 6.5. For example, I believe mixview.x32 and viewsvc.x32 were updated in Authorware 7.
    2. Try making a little AW program with 4 or 5 buttons that each trigger an imported MP3 file, where each audio file has different output settings (e.g. mono vs stereo, 64kbps vs. 92 kbps, etc.). Package it up and send it to the Dell user to test it. You may stumble upon an audio output setting that works on that particular machine.

  • Acquiring 24-bit sound with a third-party sound card... truncation issues.

I am having a very strange problem when using LabVIEW to acquire audio
data via the Windows API from a Creative Professional E-MU 1616m sound
card.  The goal is to acquire sound in 24-bit resolution.
When capturing sound in 16-bit mode (as set in the LabVIEW software),
the E-MU 1616m behaves as expected, with a 105dB SNR and approximately
-130dB noise floor, after dithering.  However, when switching to
24-bit capture mode, a very severe truncation occurs.  This sends
the harmonic distortion and noise through the roof.  After
investigating fairly deeply in our LabVIEW code, I am wondering what
    might be the problem.
I have compiled a number of screenshots which showcase the problem in more detail.
Here is a background of the experiment:
For these tests, both the analog and digital audio was generated by an
Audio Precision System Two system, and was passed directly into the
respective line-level or digital audio inputs.  Digital audio was
tested using both coax and optical cable.  In the sound card
control software, the audio was sent directly from the input channel
into the WAVE IN L/R (via the Windows API, I assume).  The
sampling rate for the profile was 96kHz.
The sampling rate in all LabVIEW functions was set to 96kHz.  The sample rate set in the AP Digital generator was 96kHz.
    ANALOG 20dBu 96kHz 16bit.jpg
In this test, everything looks fine.  The audio input is at
Full-scale for the E-mu's ADCs.  It is exhibiting expected 16-bit
    performance (with dithering).
    ANALOG 20dBu 96kHz 24bit.jpg
Now we instruct the driver to capture sound in 24 bits.  Notice
that the noise floor and THD+N go up considerably.  Effects of
truncation become visible on the time-domain display.
    ANALOG -20dBu 96kHz 16bit.jpg
Now we drop the input level to -20dBu.   The performance
starts to look a little messy but is still acceptable.  Note,
however, the high peaks on the odd harmonics.
    ANALOG -20dBu 96kHz 24bit.jpg
Now we try to capture at 24 bits.  The effects of truncation are extreme at this low signal level.
    ANALOG -60dBu 96kHz 16bit.jpg
Now we are at extremely low signal levels.  Individual
quantization levels can be seen on the signal.  Dither is also
    present.  Performance is still good.
    ANALOG -60dBu 96kHz 24bit.jpg
However, when increasing the resolution to 24 (which should increase
the number of quantization levels), our signal is reduced to a square
    wave.  Obviously something is wrong.
    DIGITAL 0dB 16bit 96kHz 16bit.jpg
Now on to the digital tests.  We start with full-scale.  We
used an AP outputting a properly dithered 16-bit signal over an optical
cable.  The soundcard is instructed to receive in 16 bit
    mode.  It looks good.
    DIGITAL 0dB 16bit 96kHz 24bit.jpg
Using the same input, we change to 24 bit receive mode.
    DIGITAL 0dB 24bit 96kHz 16bit.jpg
Now we set up the AP to output a properly dithered 24-bit signal at
full-scale.  The dips in the frequency domain show us that
    something is wrong.
    DIGITAL 0dB 24bit 96kHz 24bit.jpg
Receiving in 24-bit mode.  Same story as before.
    DIGITAL -90dB 16bit 96kHz 16bit.jpg
Now we decrease the amplitude to a low level.  Well-implemented dither is shown here clearly.
    DIGITAL -90dB 16bit 96kHz 24bit.jpg
However, receiving in 24-bit mode reduces the signal to a dithered square wave.
    DIGITAL -90dB 24bit 96kHz 16bit.jpg
Here is the low-level signal with the AP generating a 24-bit
signal.  Dither is applied, but vanishes in the e-mu 1616m.
It seems the dither level has been changed.  This is the cause of
    our dips from before.
    DIGITAL -90dB 24bit 96kHz 24bit.jpg
And finally, we transmit and receive in 24-bits.  Here are the results.
We have achieved similar results using several of your breakout boxes and soundcards.
Attached are all screenshots, as well as the main VI (AP Test.vi) and
the dependent vi's.  There are a number of SVT vi's in the
project, but they can be ignored since they are not related to the
    problem.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Best Regards,
    Brett Gildersleeve

    Hi Brett,
I took a look at the code you attached, but it appears that you may have left out the subvi that actually acquires the sound. When you say Windows API, I assume that you are calling a DLL at some point. How are you configuring the inputs (or what function are you using)? It could be (and this is just a guess) that when you specify 24 bits, the DLL returns the data in a very specific format. If you don't interpret the bits that are returned correctly, LabVIEW may not know what to do with them, as LabVIEW does not have a native 24-bit datatype. If there is any documentation for these function calls, our answer might there...
Just some thoughts -- thanks for posting your solution!

  • 64 bit Sound Blas

I am trying out 64 bit'sXPpro/SP and have Audigy Sound Blaster?ZS 2 Platinum hardware?I asked Creative if they had a CD or a full download - no, they said, but there are updates. Ha,Ha! Yes driver and a few other?updates totalling?49 MB and many items. such as ?Creative Audio HQare not available. I tried then the installation of?the 32 bit version, then update those items available, including 64 bit driver. This showed the diagnostic was OK, but when trying to open Audio HQ, Sounds and Audio Devi'ves, pomptly get Cannot find the MMDriver. INF needed to install drivers. Copy the orginal file to System 32. Then tried to open Default Device and got meaassage Windows cannot execute SendVol32.exe. Use add/Remove to install. Well, not surprising that this was happening, but what does surprise me is that Creative seem to be totally uninterested in providing a full 60MB+ 64 bit download to sort this mess out.
I would just add that Creative auto update does not work in 64 bit IE/6/7 only in 32 bit versions.

What do you mean by 64-bit's
No there is currently no Sound Blaster, nor any other manufacturer, offering a PCI Express card.

  • Converting 12-bit sound to 16-bit

Hello, I've run into the 12-bit bug in iDVD that causes imported sound to drop out. Short of exporting back to the camera and re-importing in 16-bit is there any other way to convert, perhaps with software (free/shareware?) I have rather alot of mini-dvd's recorded in 12-bit and the idea of all this back and forth is daunting.

  • Problems Importing 24 bit Sound Files

Hello, in both PrPro and Soundbooth I'm having some real difficulty importing some wonderful music recorded in 48k, 24 bit format.  Here is a screenshot containing some information about the file:
I am able to play this music on the little QuickTime music player (shown above), but cannot import into anything in the Adobe suite.
There is a menu setting in Soundbooth about selecting either 16 bit format or 32 bit format.  Since this was recorded in 24 bit format, I think that may be important.
In PrPro, I get a message "File format not supported".
The screenshot above describes it as a "Sound Designer II" "kind" of file.  The fellow recorded it on some old, old Apple equipment.
Is there a way I can import this footage into Soundbooth or PrPro with a minimum of generation loss from any file conversion?
Is there another type of workaround?
I'm reluctant to trouble him for a redo.   24 bit was the highest he could go on his equipment.
    Thanks for your help,
    Matt Dubuque

    Thanks Colin,
I downloaded the program and I note that in its preferences it asserts that the maximum spectrogram display level is 8kHz.
Does this mean that I have a high bandpass filter at 8000 Hz and anything above that is cut off?  I would be pretty reluctant to go that route because this film seems likely to be shown in a theatre and quite a few of us can hear above that pitch.
On the other hand, the playback sounds pretty good, so perhaps this is just a VIDEO output display limitation of the original audio waveform that may actually be from 20Hz to 20KHz for example.
    Any thoughts on that?
Also, Memory is of no concern, only fidelity and resolution and probably conformance to an RIAA curve or close to it.
Given that, of the three file types you mentioned, WAV, PCM, or AIFF, is it true that .wav. would offer the highest fidelity, irrespective of memory required to store it?
    Thanks!

  • SB Live 24-Bit Sound Cuts

My problem with the Sound Blaster Li've 24-Bit in my second computer is when I am listening to music or doing anything with sound, the sound would cut off from time to time and then come back on. I found it very wierd it doing this. I don't really know what caused this but I read the stickied post on the creative - sound blaster forums and did what it told me to, which was do a clean boot with windows to see if the problem persists. So I did and the problem still occured, so after that I uninstalled the drivers and everything that had related to creative. I downloaded the latest dri've I can find on the website installed it and the problem still persists, I do not know what to do from here. So please can anyone tell me what is going on with this sound card of mines. Thanks.

Hi there morra? This is a clasic one. I had this problem at first, its quite easy to solve. The thing is that you can only have one soundcard installed at a time. You will have to?disable your onboard soundcard, the following link will?tell you how to do this:
How to disable an onboard soundcard<?I would also reccomend that you uninstall your pci soundcard as well,?then re-install it once your onboard soundcard has been deactivated?I hope this helpssupernerd59

i have a dv7 6165us and i have the sound glitch at least 3 times an hour it glitches for 2 seconds and interupts music video and games lagging.Ive talked to hp and ive done everything possible listed.
    DRIVERS
    REINSTALL SYSYTEM
    TURN OFF DRIVEGUARD
TEST ISSUE WITH AC ADAPTER UNPLUGGED
    UPDATE BIOS
    HARD RESET SYSTEM
Ive tried everything and that annoying little glitch or pop or whatever is still there.the system is for my son for college so i dont have time to send it back to HP.does anyone and or HP have any suggestions.
By the way HP you are very quiet on these forums rarely interjecting with support.Whats the problem if youve solved this problem for only one person your system of support should be set up to pass these fixes on to other customers.Im not holding my breath for an answer but who knows maybe theres a HP tech who takes pride in there work thatll see this.
And if it is a known motherboard issue there should have been a recall and i never should have been sold a faulty machine.

    You're very welcome.
You do have a point, and I agree wholeheartedly.
I'm sure folks have brought this up in the past, but I don't know why HP doesn't provide some official presence on these forums.
Sometimes some of the HP employee forum members will do things like get driver pages added for models with no support pages, but I have rarely if ever, seen where an HP volunteer forum member takes a techinical issue and "runs it up the flagpole," as it were.
Have you tried this driver (6.10.6365.0 (11 Nov 2011)?
It's a newer version of the one on your notebook's support and driver page.

  • ThinkPad T510 type 4313 Windows 7 64 bit- sound in and out

    Hi,
I bought my ThinkPad T510 in March 2011, had purchased a 1 year warranty, which has expired. My sound issue started almost 2 months ago. While watching DVD's, videos online at any site from yahoo, facebook, youtube, netflix, hulu etc my sound will stop completely while the video still runs. I have to press the volume buttons on the keyboard either up or down to turn the sound back on temporarily. The sound may come back on for 15 minutes or 5 seconds. Sometimes the volume buttons are not effective and then I have to click on the speaker button in the bottom right hand side of the screen to manually slide the volume button up or down.
It seems like such a small problem with an easy fix, but it is extremely frustrating when watching for example, a 30 second video and having to hover over the volume button.
     I've tried everything.
    - Called Lenovo for support or direction for this quick fix that should be available (I can't be the only one with this issue, because I've never had this problem before). This issue isn't familiar, I can ship it in, and possibly pay up to $600 for them to locate and fix the issue.
    - Updating the Conexant drivers
    - Removing current driver and having it auto reinstall most up to date driver
    - trying the diagnose & fix app on here which found nothing wrong
    - Ran my Norton virus check
    - removed all cookies and history
    - Updated the conexant drivers from the Lenovo Support tab
    - Used monthly Norton phone support 3 different times to diagnose and fix the issue
I am at a loss, please help.
I've been told it could be a hardware issue or the VOIP may need to be turned off. Norton cannot touch "the brain"over the phone

    Hey Soundless,
Have you updated your BIOS to 1.52?
Try to find older audio driver versions and see if it works.
Also, check in Device Manager under your audio devices and make sure that you don't have any audio drivers conflicting with each other.
