24" Cinema Display connecting to a PC?

I just converted from Windows **** & purchased MacBookPro with 24" Cinema Display. Very Happy! I was so impressed with display I bought 2nd, and was hoping to connect to my desktop at home.

it seems I would need a female mini display port to VGA or VDI adapter. does this exist yet?
No.

  • Apple LED Cinema Display connected to iMac 21.5" 3.33GHz

I have an Apple LED Cinema Display connected to an older iMac 21.5" (late 2009) and I am using the Cinema Display as the main display. It is very dim though. The iMac's screen is brighter and this computer is actually way older than this LED Cinema Display. This LED Cinema Display should be way brighter, but I cannot adjust the brightness on it. There is no slider when I open display preferences. Anything I can do? Thanks.

Brightness is controlled via USB.  Is the display's USB cable plugged into the computer?

  • Does older cinema displays connect to new iMacs

does older cinema displays connect to new imacs

Yes. Use a Mini DisplayPort adapter for that type of display.

  • Magic Mouse stutters when 27" Apple Cinema Display connected

I have a 2011 MacBook Pro and 27" Apple LED Cinema Display, and a Mighty Mouse. All purchased 2 weeks ago.
When I work with the 27" display connected, the Mighty Mouse's performance is intolerable. It jerks, stutters and jumps all over the place. it will work fine for a short period time (30 seconds) and then become jerky and stutter all over the place for 5 seconds.
This does not happen when the display is disconnected.
To ensure it wasn't a software issue, I used Boot Camp to run Windows 7. The problem is the same in Windows. Again, when I disconnect the display and use my laptop's screen, the problem goes away.
Some people have suggested that it may be interference from 2.4Ghz wireless networks and recommended to switch to 5Ghz. However, turning my router off did not help.
I tried positioning the mouse less than 2 inches away from the laptop, both in open & closed-lid mode. Again, the problem remains.
The laptop's trackpad always works fine, as does a wired Mighty Mouse.
    So, in summary:
*Is there known interference between the 27" Display and Bluetooth devices such as my Magic Mouse?*

There are some known problems which other devices on the 2.4Ghz can affect. Here's the apple support article on the subject:

  • Using only an Apple Cinema Display connected to MBP (w/ the lid closed)

    Hi,
Could someone please help me on a small but rather annoying problem?
I have a Mac Book Pro 17" connected to an Apple Cinema Display 24". All I would like to do is to just use the Cinema Display, close the laptop lid, and for the MBP not to go into sleep mode (taking the Apple Display away with it).
I've looked in the Display and Energy Saver settings and have trawled through the online forums but as yet have not had any luck.
Can someone point me in the right direction?
    Many thanks, M>/.

Apple supports using an external keyboard/mouse to wake the MBP in clamshell mode.

The other option is 3rd party software to disable lid-closed sleep:

  • Mac Mini and Apple 30inch Cinema Display connectivity.

Hi everyone, I have one simple question - if I buy the newest model mac mini, can I plug my 30inch aluminium cinema display straight into the Thunderbolt port and experience full resolution display on the monitor? Many thanks, Andy

Thanks azdawg99 - I had read in several places that this was the case, but just wanted to check for definite. I'm in Hong Kong at the moment and until the first official Apple store opens here in a few weeks' time, it's actually quite difficult to get a definitive answer to a question or problem - many of the authorised resellers here are not very good!
    Thanks again,

  • Turning off MBP Display when Cinema Display connected

    Hello,
Sorry if this is a stupid question but I have a 23" Cinema Display attached to my MBP via DVI and although it's great to watch DVDs on, I would like to turn off my MBP display whilst doing this to save energy, reduce the distraction etc - is there a way of doing this?
    Help appreciated.

You'd need an external keyboard and mouse as well. Follow these steps:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3131
Alternatively, there are haxies that disable lid-closed sleep:
    SleepLess: http://www.alxsoft.com/mac/sleepless.html
InsomniaX: http://semaja2.net/insomniaxinfo/ (not sure if this works in 10.5)

  • 30" inch Cinema Display Connected to DVD Player

I've read a bunch of stuff about using a cinema display for other uses but can't find a conclusive comment. I have a new 30" display. I'd like to hook it up to a DVD player via DVI to HDMI (using a female DVI to male HDMI conversion cable). No computer involved. Is this possible? Can the display be used with a straight DVD player at all? If so what kind?

Absolutely it cannot be done. Gefen might sell some kind of box that would allow this type of interface, but a simple cable adapter, no.

  • Headphone Jack Doesn't work in XP Connected to 24" Cinema Display

I am trying to get audio out of my headphone jack when connected to my cinema display and booted into XP (OSX works fine). The audio always routes through the display speakers when booted into Windows XP, even when I plug headphones into my macbook pro's headphone jack. What settings or drivers do I need to enable my headphone jack to work in XP when I have my cinema display connected?

I have the same problem too, but using Windows 7 and Boot Camp V3.1. Headphones work fine if I don't plug in the USB from the Display to the computer.
Additionally, right after installing Windows 7, my Macbook Pro set the audio headset jack to 'optical audio' (with the glowing red LED), which I had to disable manually to get the headphones to work.
To Nick4597, for me, the headphone issue wasn't there in XP, just Win7. Maybe the latest Boot Camp drivers disabled the feature?

  • Cinema Display not detected

I got my 20" Cinema Display back from repair today (backlight problem) and now I can't get my MacBook Pro to detect that it's attached. While it was at the repair center, I used a CRT as a second monitor. So today, I just closed the MBP (didn't shut it off, which I think is what cause the problem), disconnected the CRT, connected the ACD and opened the MPB back up. Completely black screen, with the little LED on all the time.
    So, troubleshooting:
    - The MBP still detects the CRT
    - ACD is detected by both a G4 and G5
    - A different 20" ACD is ALSO not detected by my MBP
    - Reset NVRAM and SMC
    - Booted MBP in safe mode
    - Booted MBP from startup CD
    - Tried various resolutions while the CRT was connected, thinking maybe it was stuck on one that's not compatible with the ACD
    - Moved and recreated the com.apple.windowserver.* files
I'm running 10.4.9 and here's what the graphics/displays info says, WITH the Cinema Display connected:

Been messing with this for four hours, and I still have a blank display. Any other ideas? From one thread someone mentioned replacing the logic board fixed a similar problem.

    UPDATE:
I just got back from my visit to a mac genius. Of course Murphy's law was in full effect! With my MBP connected to the cinema display in the Mac store, everything worked as it is supposed to.
Well, I rush home thinking that maybe mine would now work - - no luck! He did suggest that I try connecting analog with the provided dvi-to-vga adapter. This suggestion DID work! BUT, I want my video digital! That is why even though I was happy with the iBook G4 that I bought last year, I wanted digital video + expanded desktop!
I think I will make another reservation with the Mac Genius, but this time, bring my monitor. Will keep you posted...

  • Why won't my 20" cinema display work with an HP laptop / Vista

I have my 20" cinema display connected to my hp laptop (using vista) under hardware, and a few other places it shows that the monitor is detected, but I can't get a picture to show on the monitor no matter what I do. It stays black, even though it is detected. Has anyone else had an experience with this?

the option(s) that it gives you are the recommended resolutions as determined by the "handshake" that happens between the monitor and computer (sort of a pre-UPnP standard). you can always press the advanced button and then manually select any resolution / display rate that your graphics card is capable of displaying.
what was the option, by the way? what resolution and display rate?
the resolution should be 1680x1050 and the refresh rate can probably be anything from 60 to 80 Hz.

  • Can I use an old Apple Cinema Display with new Mac Mini?

Currently I have an early PowerMac G5 that I bought used recently. It came with an Apple Cinema Display (20", I think - resolution is 1680x1050). The Cinema Display does not have a separate power cord so it must be powered from the PowerMac. My question is this - would I be able to use this monitor with a new Mac Mini - would it be able to power it the same as the PowerMac is currently.
Thanks in advance for your help. This is the first Mac I have owned since a "Fat Mac" many years ago (one of those with the 9" black and white screen).

Are you sure you have a 20" CINEMA display? I have 2x 20" CINEMA displays and both have their own power cord (and power brick). Maybe yours is a STUDIO display??? IDK if STUDIO displays worked that way or not, I've never owned one. Anyways, I have a 20" CINEMA display connected to my new Mac mini (early 2009) via the MiniDVI>DVI adapter and it works fine but is powered through the power cord though. I too have a PowerMac G5 (quad) but my PowerMac cannot power the displays without them being plugged in via their power cords. I am thinking you must have a STUDIO display or maybe there was an earlier version of the CINEMA display that could work that way.... idk. Mine were purchased at the end of 2005 along with the PowerMac G5 (quad).

  • LED Cinema Display 27 Random Loss of USB

I have a brand new 27" LED Cinema display connected via Mini Display Port to my 2006 Mac Pro with an ATI Radeon HD 5770 graphics card.  The display's USB cable is connected to a USB port on the back of the Mac Pro.  My keyboard is the newest Apple extended keyboard (wired) that is plugged into the back of the monitor.
The problem is that randomly (about one out every 8 boots but with no pattern or rhyme-or-reason), I have no USB connectivity from the keyboard.  I am unable to enter my user name and password to log in.  While it is in this state I have pulled the monitor's USB cable from the back of the Mac Pro, waited 15 seconds or so and then plugged it back in.  This does not fix the problem.  The only solution so far is to force shut down the computer using the power button on the front of the Mac Pro, then disconnect the monitor's power cable, plug the monitor's power cable back in and re-boot.  So far 100% success with this process.  Somehow removing power from the monitor resets its USB bus.  I just don't think I should have to do this once or twice a week... or more.
So I have a solution but it is a pain in the rear and involves crawling under my desk.  I could try plugging the keyboard directly into the Mac Pro and abandon all use of the USB ports on the back of the monitor but would hate to give up functionality that I paid for.
This only occurs on boot... I have never lost USB connectivity while the computer is running if it boots and works properly... even after sleep.
Any thoughts or help would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Norby

I installed Mountain Lion last night. Playing around a bit before going to bed I noticed that my keyboard seemed to fade in and out, sometimes what I typed showed up, sometimes not. This morning I was using Messages, tried the camera. First I got a warning saying no camera was attached to Mac (built in iSight?!?!?!). The unplug/plug method didn't address this. Restarted Mac Pro, camera showed up but there was major lag, like it was someone's video sent to me from a bad connection not locally streaming video! Also, graphical anomalies kept popping up in the video. (a note: none of this was happening with my MBP with FaceTime camera after ML install)
    And then it hit me.
Due to the short span of the mini display cable on the LED Display, I have to use an extension cord for the MiniDisplay and USB. Removing the MiniDisplay extension cured my video issues. I removed the USB extension and put in place another USB hub testing my previous post. So far, with keyboard and Wacom plugged into the Displays USB, no issues. It's early though so who knows. I wouldn't mind trying a straight connection to a Mac Pro USB but Apple has made the cable far too short and working with my head next to the tower just isn't desired.
