24 hour shutdown message

I have a Mac mini hooked up to a PC monitor and keyboard. All worked well for months. Then I started to get a message saying "You need to restart your computer..." I would do this and then 24 hours later I would get the same message.
Last week I reinstalled a new copy of the system (10.3.9) but thta did not solve the problem.
I would appreciate any ideas concerning the problem and any suggestions for solving the problem..

It sounds like you have encountered a "kernel panic".
The cause of a kernel panic could be hardware- or software-related. Did you make an "erase and install" of Mac OS X 10.3.9? If not, then there could still be some kind of software problems on your Mac mini. If you did make an "erase and install" of Mac OS X, then you can pretty much rule-out a software problem. You might read through Dr. Smoke's helpful FAQ about resolving kernel panics here:

Serious Error shutdown message while exporting media

I am encountering an odd error message (from which I have never seen) when trying to export a project from Premiere Pro CC.
The error message (Sorry, a serious error has occurred that requires Adobe Premiere Pro to shut down. We will attempt to save your current project) shuts down Premiere about 11-25% into the export. If I remove all effects on the media, the file exports fine, but will not if the effects remain on the media.
I have checked the permissions (as per Adobe forum advice), and they all allow me to read and write files, so that is not the issue. I have also restarted my computer, uninstalled / reinstalled Premiere, and tried rendering in different outputs, none of which have worked.
I also have the error code, but am unaware of how to attach it to this question.
Set up:
Late 2012 iMac
Mac OSX 10.9.2
3.9 GHz Intel Core i7
8GB memory
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680MX 2GB
Premiere Pro CC
Using H2.64 in .MP4 files
Installed Plug ins:
Red Giant Magic Bullet Color Suite (used DeNoiser II in media)
Has anyone any clue as to what I should do/try next?

My C6180 All in One printer displays an Improper Shutdown message

Printer doesn't respond when I press OK button...keeps recycling same Improper Shutdown message. Only button it responds to is ON/Off one. Have tried unplugging power cord but that didn't work.
Initial problem was message that photo tray was open....tried all kinds of things and kept getting same message. Couldn't shut printer off so pulled power plug. Then started to get Improper Shutdown message when turned back on.

C6180....Improper Shutdown message

Display keeps repeating Improper Shutdown message....even though I press OK button, printer goes through some movements then repeats message. Only thing it responds to is shutdown. Have tried disconnecting and reconnecting power but nothing works.
Problem started when I received photo tray open message....followed instructions on how to solve but problem continued. Only way I could shut down printer was to pull plug. I then started to receive Improper Shutdown message.

Sounds like the C6180 needs to be serviced.

[SOLVED] Catalyst performs poorly and corrupts shutdown messages

Hey guys,
I'm running just an AMD A10-5750M APU and I just switched to the catalyst driver and I'm getting worse performance than with the radeon driver, about 70%.
However, using fglrx, my CPU can clock up to 3.5 GHz where before it was only up to 2.5GHz. Direct rendering is enabled, and it runs glxgears and fgl_glxgears much faster than with radeon (about twice the fps).
Additionaly, I'm playing the games through steam which seems to degrade performance. When I run fgl_glxgears normally (no compositor, just after x starts) I get about 1200-1400 fps, then when I lauch steam (even without launching a game) I can only get about 600 fps. In game (CSGO) I can get only about 35-55 fps, where with radeon I could get about 55-75.
Everything seems like it should be running faster but with steam everything is degraded. When I first installed catalyst, I was able to get about 100-110 fps running CSGO on the same settings, but ever since then I can't.
Also, when I shutdown now from within X, the shutdown messages are all corrupted and I can't read them at all. This doesn't happen when I shutdown from a tty. I made sure that I have nomodeset as a kernel parameter, but I don't know what else to do and haven't found anything from searching either of these issues.

Pixma MG 6230 does not shutdown. Gives wait shutdown message all night long.

Recently I have been unable to shutdown printer. Have pressed buttons but get message that it is shutting down and to wait. After 12 hours, printer still has same message. I cut power to unit and repower up and it restarts but tells me not to kill power unless I use proper shutdon procedures. I updated firmware to 2.010 but still have same problem. I have had the printer for 1.5 years or so and this started recently.

Could not reach the wall outlet but did remove some items plugged into the strip and tried it. It shutdown OK. Will see if it does so when I close down my computer tonight. If not then that was the problem. If it does act up then I will be back.Thanks

Time behind by 1 hour - Nokia Messaging

Hello all,
I'm have two accounts (gmail + work email) that both have incorrect times for both inbox AND sent folder. I send an email from my phone and it shows the time as 1 hour behind but shows up in my inbox on my computer as the correct time. When I check the connection info, that is correct. So I'm guessing it's an issue with my phone's clock? I have it set to local time and automatic time update is turned on as well. I use mail for exchange to sync my calendar with google calendar and the times there are correct there too. I've uninstalled and reinstalled a few times and also have reset the data.
It was working correctly prior to my most recent hard reset (obv N97). Can anyone point me to any setting that I may be overlooking?

I have the same problem - any ideas, anyone? I've tried messing with the clock settings per another message on here, but it makes no difference - either with Auto Time Update on/Local time or Auto Update Off (i'm in LA - GMT-7), restarting each time. I have a 5800/RM-428 NAM, 50.2.05 - and this started happening recently when I updated Nokia Messaging to 10.2.02.26 (main) via SW Update.

Hp INkjet 3545 paper jam and improper shutdown messages

I bought and new packed piece of Inkjet 3545 all in one printer about 2 days back. After installation of the cartridges, black and tri color, and closing the top lib, the printer has been persistent with a paper jam message. The display tells me that there is a jam, but i have checked very tohoroughly everywhere. not a piece of a paper. The printer was box packed when i received and it has been in this adamant loop ever since.
Also along with this paper jam issue, the printer always tells me that last shutdown was "an improper shutdown". I have tried with the shutdown button and with a reset to factory settings also. Nothign seems to work. Can someone help me with this. I checked the discussion board ad many folks have similar issues. But none of the suggestions seem to work for me.

I understand your Deskjet 3545 prompting with a paper jam message. I will do my best to assist you! Make sure this printer is plugged into a direct wall, not a surge protector. I just want to see if this makes a difference.
Follow this entire HP document on A 'Paper Jam' Message Displays on the Control Panel. Please double check to make sure there is no paper within this printer.
If your printer is stating "Improperly shutdown", this is fine. It just means you unplugged the printer in a different way. Please try this reset on your printer. Leave the printer turned on>Disconnect the power cord from the back of the printer for more than 60 seconds. Please post your results, as I will be looking forward to hearing from you. Mail not delivered for 4 hours warning message

I've recently started getting .mac mail bounced back to me from MAIL DELIVERY SUBSYSTEM saying that the message couldn't be delivered for the past 4 hours and would continue trying for 4 days. They never seem to go through.
This only happens with mail to my parents. I can send them mail from a different ISP account, and my husband can send them mail from his .mac account. I have not changed my preferences and neither have they. I would suspect their ISP, except that my husband's .mac mail goes through.
Any idea what the problem might be? Here's the relevant information from the warning message:
<parents' address>...Deferred:Invalid argument
Warnng: message still undelivered after 4 hours
Will keep trying until message is 4 days old
Reporting-MTA: dns; smtpout.mac.com
Action: delayed
Status: 4.4.2

Possible fixes
Clear caches We've received unconfirmed reports that running the maintenance routines offered by AppleJack can resolve some .Mac connectivity issues -- potentially indicating cache corruption as a cause of problems. Just restart In other cases, a simple restart can have a beneficial effect. MacFixIt reader Tracey writes:

In my case, after a half an hour of being unable to connect, it finally dawned on me to go back to the basics of troubleshooting. HT4061 had new ipad air 5 hours, got message to update ios, started, screen went black with apple logo, over two hours, cannot shutoff device. seems locked, no response.

The following is how to do a proper reset of an iDevice:
Device Reset (won't affect settings/data/music/apps/etc)
1. Press and hold (& continue to hold) BOTH the Sleep/Wake button & the Home button.
2. Continue to hold BOTH (ignoring any other messages that may show) until you see the Apple logo on the screen.
3. Release BOTH buttons when you see the Apple logo and allow the device to boot normally.

Can't start or "please shutdown" message, after ¿kernel problem? need help!

I'm new to mac world, just bought a mac book less than 1 month ago...
After Safari crashed, and also "force quit" crashed I've had to turn off the computer by pressing 6 secs the power button. After that, when I started, a "kernel problem" appeared. Dont know what it is... but then macbook did not started or started and in 10 minutes, a "black" message appeared telling me do manually shutdown, in many languages...
I've looked some post, but did not understand about those kernel problems... don't really know if my problem is about that... how to solve it??? some people posted their "panic.log" here is mine...

My macbook is really new, serial number is not included in those macbook with the famous problem of "random shutdown"... but i have always been a pc user... dont know about kernel or how to solve the problem... ¿maybe reinstall? ¿is this usual? i have 2 dvds that came with macbook, (Mac Os tiger installers)... ¿is possible to repair it without losing configuration, installed programs...?
what should i do?

This is the infamous Kernel Panic. The common wisdom is that they are usually the result of hardware problems and so it's worth reseating the RAM. You can find out more on Dr Smoke's page here:

However, some years ago I had a recurrent KP on an iBook which I eventually resolved by clearing out the OS X cache files using Panther (now Tiger!) Cache Cleaner. Download an evaluation version of TCC from here:

If the KP is associated with just one program, I would also try finding its preferences file (look in /Library/Preferences) and dragging it to the trash. For safari, I'd also also execute Empty Cache and Reset Safari

Apple PMU Forced shutdown message

I just purchased a used Quicksilver 2002 model. Been having some intermittent power shutoff problems (kernel message asking to press power button for several seconds until shutdown), also some kernel issues with a Griffin PowerMate knob (which has since been unplugged)- it has shut down 4 times in the last 20 minutes. System log reports this all 4 times:
Dec 31 18:00:34 localhost kernel[0]: ApplePMU::PMU forced shutdown, cause = -122
Two of the four times, I was installing some software; the other two times it was just sitting there, running nothing but the OS. Interesting that all other time stamps in the system log showed the correct date and time, but this one above is off. Could this be the PMU battery (you know, that little battery that plugs into the motherboard)?

Actually, Patrick, the last four times it has shut down today, it didn't prompt me to shut it down via the power button- it simply blinked off. When it has done that, the message stored in the Console is different from the kind that occurs when a kernel panic happens. The kernel panic log does indeed tell me what hardware might be giving it fits- but that hardware has since been left unplugged. This log entry is different- not associated with any hardware, just the PMU message as mentioned above (there's also no mention of the PMU when I get the kernel panic screen).
The note about testing the memory is a good one though- I'll have to try that. I still tend to think that it is a heat issue or a bad Power Supply- but I can't say for sure yet.
Alas, I can't run the Apple Hardware Test disk- I didn't get any disks with this used machine. I have other AHT disks for other Macs I own, but they're not compatible.
