24" iMac (8,1) bootcamp win7 (64-bit) no microphone

My microphone (old desktop mic that I have plugged into the input jack) won't detect any audio. I was using this device on the same computer in the same setup of windows just last night perfectly fine to do communications with my friends in online games. Now all of a sudden there is no audio detected. Why is this?

Hi Tom,
Unexpected EOF implies you need a Disk Repair or Reinstall.
IOSurface: buffer allocation size is zero implies a Graphics problem, haven't nailed all the causes ye, but often associated with Multiple screens.
Sorry, I don't have time to really study the log further at the moment, ut hopefully one of the other freat helpers here will pipe in.

  • Why Apple Thunderbolt Display won't work on BootCamp Win7 64-bit while being plugged to MBA?

    Hello,
I have MBA (latest) & installed win7 64-bit in BootCamp, I do also have Apple Thunderbolt 27" Display.
When I disconnect the ATD and re-connect it in Mac OS X, it works fine like a charm, but when I disconnect then re-connect in BootCamp, it doesn't work at all whatsoever, in fact, I have to restart my MBA (while thunderbolt is connected) to make it work in BC, this is the only way to make it work.
So, my question is; If I disconnected ATD in BootCamp then re-connected it, why it won't work?
I've googled everywhere about this issue, but no luck.
    Any idea?

to calculate how much video ram is needed one
    take
the vertical number of pixels and * with horisontal number of pixels and * with 32bit colour which is 4 bytes
so if it's the 13" macbook air
    1440 * 900 * 4 = 5.184MB for main display
    +
    2560 *1440 *4 = 14.75MB for second display
sounds like the intel hd 5000 would have that as dedicated memory even if the windows driver did not allow to use shared system mem as extra
could be a problem with the driver for windows
maybe a person who ran a setup like yours would have more to contribute with
my setup is an imac 21" with amd video card and a 24" dvi dell monitor and that works fine in windows so it's a different animal altogether

  • Crashes on Mac side when running Win7 64 bit in bootcamp as VM in Parallels

I got my MacBookPro mid April 2010. Microsoft store partitioned & set up bootcamp with Win7 64 bit. I then Purchased Parallels 5 & set it up using the bootcamp partition as the Virtual machine. Not knowing what I was doing at 1st, I accidentally created a 2nd VM the 1st time I tried to use it & didn't know how to get rid of it until a couple weeks ago.
It was all working pretty well until about Feb 19 when I was at the office trying to take notes in Pages. I had just started when it started alternating between Pages, desktop & blue screen then pages quit. Same when I reopened pages so just shut down & an hr or so later was ok. Over a period of about a wk rapidly increasing # of crashes of Safari & Pages to where it was becoming hard to use. Went to Genius bar who told me to do archive & install after back up. Had to go research & buy back up HD & before I could back up it got so bad it wouldn't even boot. Apple care helped me do Archive & install over the phone. Much better but still problems. Fri he checked back & had me reset Safari & empty Safari & other caches. Then Parallels crashed. So shut down & booted into bootcamp. It was also messed up.
Then remembered the old, if all else fails trick of shutting it down & leaving it for a bit to clear out the volatile memory. Came back & booted into bootcamp & opened Outlook etc. Ok. Then booted into Mac & then parallels & it was ok.
But problems continued. Repaired preferences, etc. I also found out that i didn't have the latest build of Parallels 5 (from the Parallels user forums) even though the update process said I did. They seemed rather techie. I finally did figure out how to download & install the latest build of Parallels. Not sure if that helped or why the check update from the pull down menu acted like it was checking & then told me I had the latest one but mine was several builds older than the current 1.
Along the way, I finally learned how to delete the duplicate VM & it worked better for awhile, but then was getting bad. I verified the disk in Disk utility & it stopped almost immediately & said it needed to be repaired. Genius bar did that.Erase & install was mentioned. then more crashes, more problems so again verified disk & it ran longer but again stopped & said repair needed. Went into Genius bar on 3-25 for erase & install. Got it back next day but I think maybe the genius (who I had asked to help set up bootcamp partition) restored more than just the users which is what the head genius had said was the only thing to restore. Not sure, but it appears my new settings are showing. & it appears that whatever was corrupted may have been restored as well, not sure. Made another appt for genius bar to help get things right.
The tests that were run showed that the hardware was ok. Several people told me while this was going on that it was likely related to running Windows on a mac & especially as a VM, & then someone or 2 also mentioned that running in coherence mode could be an issue.
This whole thing has been very frustrating & isn't what I expected after coming back to mac, but still needing to run windows for business software. My old macs never had problems. My brother said his macs are reliable & don't have problems.
When it got so that I couldn't even boot on the mac side the 1st time, I was able to boot into bootcamp & had to do drag & drop backup of mac files to my windows external HD. But before & after that when Safari was crashing so much it wasn't very useful, I did better in IE running in Parallels.
What I'm wondering is what might have caused this & more specifically, what can I do to avoid it happening again? A major reason that I use Parallels all the time is that I sync a windows mobile 6,5 phone with Outlook so its not very convenient to have to boot into bootcamp to check email.
The fingers have been pointed at maybe the partition getting messed up but no real answers so far. So while I assume we will get it working ok again, I'm afraid the same thing could happen again. It was suggested that it may have been doing little things kind of behind the scenes where it was getting corrupted a little bit by little bit which didn't show up until the rapidly cascading events that lead to the erase & install. So I don't know if that was the case or if something happened around Feb 19 when I first really noticed the problems (although there may have been some unexpected quits before then, but not bad or repeated). Sorry this is so long.

    Chris,
Thanks for the info/suggestions. I had already done the "clean install" without knowing it. I also had uninstalled Firefox and Chrome and was looking at dumping Safari, but I found the culprit file "_Flash Player.plugin" (version10.2.151.49) on a search for "Flash Player" under Spotlight.
Strange thing was the file did not appear when just browsing through the various directories or searching with finder. Removed it and all is good.

  • HT5639 Can I install Win7 32-bit from a bootable USB-Stick on iMac using Boot Camp?

I would like to run Win7 32-bit on my iMac 8,1.
    I have a bootable USB-Stick to install Win7.
Does Boot Camp support the installation from USB-Stick?
    Thanks

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
You can only install Windows from a USB drive in one of these Macs:
    - MacBook Pro with Retina display.
    - MacBook Air.
    - Mac mini (Mid 2010 and newer).
    - iMac (Late 2012).
As you don't have any of those Macs, you have to install Windows through a DVD. Also, the only iMac that can install Windows using a USB drive only supports a 64-bit Windows 7 and 8 version with Boot Camp

  • Problem installing Win7 64 bit on early 2008 iMac 2.66 GHz

I have read posts elsewhere that, contrary to what Apple says, it is possible to install 64 bit Windows 7 on an early 2008 iMac 8,1. The problem I'm having is that I can't get the iMac to boot from the 64 bit Windows 7 install disc. The error I'm getting is "Bootmgr is missing". I can view files on the disc just fine when I'm in OS X, so I know the bootmgr file is on the disc. But it refuses to boot from it. I know this hardware can support 64 bit cause I can boot OS X 10.6.2 into 64 bit mode.
Anyone else run in to this? Thx for any help.

Thanks Hatter. That did the trick. Actually, the link you sent me lead me to this site:
    http://blog.andersonshatch.com/2009/01/11/windows-7-x64-on-a-macbook-pro-guide/
    That site links to this:
    http://test.andersonshatch.com/2009/11/08/select-cd-rom-boot-type-prompt-during- vista-server-2008-r2-windows-7-x64-boot-on-macbook/
and that's what I used to create a DVD that was bootable by my early 2008 iMac.

  • HT1846 WIN7 64 bit Compatibility

I successfully loaded WIN7 64 bit on my  2008 iMac 24 replacing WIN XP 32 in bootcamp. When I went to load the MAC Snow Leopard disc in the WIN7 environment I got an error MSSG saying that it didn't support 64 bit

Right clicking ("Control-clicking", hold the "Control" key down as you click the file, same thing as right-clicking)  on the file  has "Troubleshoot Compatibility Mode" as one of the options listed when working in Windows.
He means that if you were to drag the "BOOTCAMP64.MSI" or the "setup.exe" file from the Mac DVD over to a new folder on the Windows desktop and then try opening it from there, Windows may recognize it better.

  • Windows 7 sees iMac but iMac can't see Win7 in Finder

I'm a brand new convert from the PC world to the Mac world and I'm trying my darndest to get this PC off my desk. I figured I would just get rid of the monitor and use remote desktop or CORD or something to control my PC through my new iMac. However, I'm having ALL sorts of problems and I think it's all related to the fact that my iMac can't see my WIN7 PC.
I have a new 21.5 iMac with snow leopard. My PC is running WIN7 64 bit. I've gone into the network preferences on my iMac and put in the workgroup name. That must have worked because my WIN7 machine can see my iMac just fine. However, when I go into finder and click on Network, it comes up with nothing. I CAN see my partner's macbook when it's on but I just cannot get my WIN7 machine to show up in the finder. My thought is that if I can get finder to see the computer, I should be fine. Another small detail, I WAS able to use finder and "connect to server" - type in the PC ip address and was able to connect to the PC that way. In that, that's how I moved all my photos and music over from my PC to my Mac. But for some reason, I just can't get it to show up in Finder - or connect to it from MS Remote Desktop Client.
I'm really hoping that someone has an answer for me because this is getting more and more frustrating! Anyone out there a mac/pc networking guru who can help me out?

    Hi Jeff,
    Did you try VNC?
    This link below states ...
"Anyone using a Home or Home Premium variant of Windows will need to resort to using the aforementioned VNC software to connect to computers remotely."
    http://windows7news.com/2009/11/21/windows-7-remote-tools-remote-desktop-connect ion/
According to that site there is a solution .. it does mention the Apple remote desktop protocol
.. maybe that might be another solution to check into.

  • Urgent help needed related to boot camp and Win7 32 bit

I have installed boot camp and Win7 32 bit on my iMac (2010) but I can't start from my mac os even by holding the option key. Windows doesn't recognize my wireless mouse either, but for now going back to the mac os is the priority. Can anyone help please?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Hold the Option (Alt) key after hearing the startup chime and until you see all bootable partitions in the screen. Do you see the OS X partition? If so, select it to start up in OS X. If you want to start up in OS X by default, open System Preferences > Startup Disk, and select your OS X partition.
Respecting to your wireless mouse, you have to install the Windows support software. To download it, you can use Windows or OS X, from this site > http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1630 If you are in Windows, decompress the file and run the installer. If you are in OS X, follow the steps of the website to burn it to a USB drive

  • I cannot hear voice through my headset under bootcamp win7.

I cannot hear voice through my headset under bootcamp win7.
would anyone provide update for Mac Air Boot Camp4.0 with Win7 32 bit ?
    thanks

There are quite a few posts about the same sound issues so the best thing to do is to do a search here for something like "no sound in headphones in Windows" or something similar and try the one that fits your problem.
Basically you have to enable them in the sound Control Panel, re-install just the Boot Camp sound drivers manually or possibly down load the sound drivers for your hardware (your sound card) from the manufacturer directly.

  • Adobe acrobat 7.0 on new Win7 64 bit computer

I need to use acrobat 7.0 with an older software that I am transferring to a new computer.  I have a keycode for acrobat 4.0.  The Transfer Activation option is greyed out.  Any suggestions?  Thanks.

If you don't have your SN for AA7 handy but did register, then you can go to the Adobe.com site, login, go to the My Product link under your name at the site. You can run AA7 on Win7 64-bit, but will have to do some fix up to do work arounds. Neither AcroTray.exe or the Adobe PDF printer of AA7 will work on the system and those require the workarounds to be able to create PDFs.
I am not sure why you mentioned AA4. I doubt that you can do much of anything with AA4. Is there a reason you specifically need AA7 and that a newer version would not do the job? Not sure what you mean about transfer activation. You have to install the software. However, AA7 also requires a different process since the activation server for AA7 is no longer available.

  • 'Source play' and 'audio-video sync' problems with PE8 on fast WIN7 64 bit computer

I am transferring Hi8 videos, about 2 hours long, to my WIN7 64 bit computer with PE8.  [Dell Mobile Precision M4400 Computer Workstation (Intel Core 2 Duo T9900 500GB/4GB); NVIDIA Quadro FX 770M, 512MB] I seem to have several problems:
First, after importing the file (.avi), I get a message about ‘dropped frames.’
Secondly, when I try to play the video in the source monitor, the audio plays but the video doesn’t; it only shows the first frame [this is after waiting until the video is ?recognized? ]   I can use the shift-arrow key and see that the video is there.
Thirdly, I can play the .avi file in other players, e.g., avidemux or PE pro CS5 on another computer.  There, I see that the audio and video are not in sync; the audio can be up to 300 ms ahead of the video (as determined using avidemux).
    Questions:
    1.  Why doesn’t the source monitor play the video? Is this a problem with PE8 (latest update as of 3 March 2011) on aWIN7 64 bit computer (intel duo core. 3 GHz).
    2. Is the audio-video sync problem the result of the ‘dropped frames?’ How can PE8 correct this? Avoid this? Or, is it coincidence?

"I think you're telling me you're using a backwards compatible Digital8  camcorder to capture your video as DV-AVIs. Is that right?" YES
"Are you using  Premiere Elements to do this capturing?" YES, AS ABOVE PE8
"Go to the File menu and select Properties. It should show a standard DV codec being used for your video and audio."
WMP v12 is dumb. Under properties, media, it says 'video.'  However, avidemux gave me the information state above: video -- Codec 4CC: dvsd, frame rate: 29.971 fps; audio -- codec: PCM, channels: Stereo, frequency: 48 kHz.
    So, back to the Questions:

  • Premiere Elements 11 will not install in win7 64-bit

I am trying to install Premiere Elements 11 on a Win7 64-bit machine. I did it last year on another machine just like it, but now I get an error message saying it won't work in 64-bit. The license is valid and paid up. Can I get a new link to a fresh install file?

if you follow all 7 steps you can dl a trial here:  http://prodesigntools.com/photoshop-elements-11-direct-download-links-pse-premiere-pre.htm l
    and activate with your serial.
if you have a problem dl'g, you didn't follow all 7 steps.  the most common error involves failing to meticulously follow steps 1,2 and/or 3 (which adds a cookie to your system enabling you to download the correct version from adobe.com).

  • Memory Leak Issue With Win7 64 bit and Youtube.

    I have a Win7 64 bit using IE9 with version 11.4.402.265 installed. 4 MB installed.
Whenever I go to Youtube or Liveleak, and watch videos, over time it uses up to 4gigs of my memory! Even if I close the window, it does not free up the memory until I Ctrl/Alt/Delete and shut down the window(s).
I normally only keep open 1-2 windows. Google toolbar is about the only thing installed. I can open 5 and more tabs, but as long as the site does not use flash, I don't have issues and each window usually uses under 200k memory watching them in task manager.
When I go to open and watch a youtube video, it slowly climbs to 200k and within an hour, I can be at 2 gigs or more memory and up to 4 gigs within 2 hours (or sometimes much sooner). Closing the window does not release the memory until I end task on it and then after a minute or so, the memory seems to clear and everything is back to normal.
I searched the forums and seems lots of users, report memory leaks, some using yahoo toolbar installed, which is not my case. I do use yahoo as my e-mail address, no idea if that is related or not. I had the same issue when I had the prior Flash version installed, this has been going on for months. Right now having only this window open, using 129, 192 memory. If I open one more window (using the 64 or 32 bit browser) and start youtube, the memory in that window keeps climbing about 50-100kb a second, so it adds up quickly. I have kaspersky running in the background and that is about it other then my nvida driver setup.
Really frustrating that so many people here and across the internet have reported this. I did have IE8 a few weeks ago and still had the same issue, upgraded to IE9 to see if that helped.
Interesting side note, if I pause a video, it slows way down on the memory leak, but still rises at a slower pace. I don't know if this is an IE thing or Flash. I have had this setup since 2009 and don't recall having issues with IE7. I use Youtube so much as a teaching instrument as a music teacher, so constantly have lessons going on it.
Thanks and hope someone has come up with something. I also build computers and have done some programming, so I could modify a file if needed with clear instructions.
