24" iMac Box

Does anyone know where to get an iMac box? I have checked Ebay and CL but can't seem to find the right size.
Thanks
Adam

If you go to a reputable packing and shipping store, they should be have the stuff needed. If you're going to ship the computer somewhere, let them do the packing and shipping, make sure it's insured for full value, and get a tracking number so you can see the progress. If you just want the box and packing material, you can usually buy it from the packing and shipping store.

  • The Little Black Cloth in the iMac Box

What does it do? Is it a mouse pad? Is it a screen cloth?

    Hi,
Definitely not a mouse pad. It's an anti-static dust free cloth to clean the screen with. Don't use it on anything else and don't get it wet.

  • Does the iMac Ship in its' Original Box?

When you order an iMac online from the Apple Store, do they ship it in the original box or do they put the iMac box in another box?
Do you have to sign for the package? Can you instruct Apple to have the delivery company hold the package at the depot rather than try to deliver it when you know you won't be home?
    Thanks
    Kelvin

Both my iMac and MacBook came in a clearly marked box leving to doubt as to what is inside of it. Not good for security, but Apple does require a signature for larger items to be released. If no one is home to receive it, they will leave a notice and you can either arrange for another delivery or pick it up at the depot.

  • Bringing my 27"iMac as carry-on luggage on plane

    Hello everyone!!!!
I know that if you see this topic you think "whaaaaaaaat????!!??"
But this is the problem: I'm moving from Italy to USA and I have to bring my 27" Imac with me .
I know that a macbook would be easier to carry, but I bought the IMac 27" for professional needs. And I love it as my own child so thinking about selling it makes me sick
So I've been searching for solutions since weeks, and these are the responses:
-Shipping it with UPS or similars costs more then 400€....too much. I have to discard this option
-Putting it in a solid checked bag wrapped in protective foam, pillows and so on : high risk of stealing and damage
-Cargo services from Airlines: they don't do it for personal items...and i think troubles would be same as above
-Buying an Ilugger or this italian bag
      http://www.macshop.it/accessori-mac/borse-per-il-trasporto-1/crumar-bag-per-imac -27-and-ampldquo-black-.html
and then bring it on plane as a carried-on bag. Ok I know that it's bigger then requested standards. I'm flying with DELTA and their size limit is 115cm total (I'm lucky, no problems about weight) . the bag is about 52x65x20cm. But they are supposed to be more tolerant since it's not a low-cost company. And of course I will have to ask to place it in a special compartment instead of above-head storage.
This solution was also suggested to me by an American Airlines check-in employee at Fiumicino. He said : " Don't worry and bring it as a carry-on, people brings a lot of strange big instruments with them with no problems.Absolutely don't put it in a checked luggage, cause it will be stolen for sure!"
But he was an italian "take it easy" kind of guy, so he was taking for granted something that cannot be sure at 100%
My main concern is: would it fit to the security scan at the airport?cause the main risk is that security officers will give me troubles about this.
    So my questions are:
-did someone made it to bring it on plane as a carried-on bag? Cause I've seen a lot of forum topic talking about this
-does anyone knows a better solution for my case? (apart from selling it and buying a new one in US...considering also the fact that I may return to Italy within a year and have same trouble on the opposite way...and anyway I love mine and don't want to replace it)
    thanks
    bye!

    Silvia, Buongiorno ..
How did you go with this?
    Just one man's opinion:
    (1) You can easily buy a flight case for a 27" iMac. Google. Every single working photographer, film crew, rock band, etc, uses these every day.  These are used every day by photographers, etc, to send their iMac 27 in an airplane as checked luggage.  This is completely normal and you can buy one immediately.
BUT it is VERY EXPENSIVE. €500 for the case and €500++ extra for the extra luggage.  AND MOST IMPORTANTLY ................ THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO GUARANTEE it won't get smashed.  Any working photographer will tell you "yeah they often get smashed".  It's really only a professional solution where noney is no object and you have professional production insurance.
    (2) You could simply SHIP IT, for example with UPS or Collissimo or whoever.  JUST USE THE ORIGINAL PACKING BOX / MATERIAL.This is exactly how the iMac came from China to Italy originally. Insure it properly.  This will be pretty expensive and probably your best option.
    (3) I agree with you totally:  REMOVE the rear leg, and then put the iMac in the smallest/thinnest bag possible. (Put the keyboard and everything else in your checked luggage.)  You and your wife / etc .. don't take ANY OTHER CARRYON LUGGAGE AT ALL, not even a handbag.
They will take pity on you since it is your ONLY carryon luggage. IMO you should be OK.
You know, we landed at Malpensa once with very expensive "indestructible" Rimowa metal cases.
The ground handlers completely destroyed one of the Rimowas!!!!!!  (Fortunately there was nothing fragile inside, so nothing inside was damaged.)  The airline very generously completely replaced the extremely expensive case, but if any machine had been inside it would have been toast and no insurance.  Again the important point is .... ANY PROFESSIONAL WILL TELL YOU flight cases get destroyed all the time. If you take course "1" it is very expensive, AND, there is NO guarantee at all your computer will arrive.
With option "2" there is no more or less risk than option "1", and option "2" is tremendously cheaper.
In option "2" a flight case WILL NOT PARTICULARLY HELP YOU. Fedex/etc is completely used to moving the type of box that an iMac comes in.  Don't forget, ALMOST EVERY iMAC PURCHASED, IS DELIVERED BY UPS or Fedex!!!!
Every single iMac bought from the apple.com online store, travels the last 1000 km with Collissimo, Fedex or whoever. They are not total idiots. They obviously deliver those sort of things every day. So it is pointless adding  a flight case (€500 !!) to option 2.
But really for me your best option is to fake it as carryon luggage.  Remove the stand as you say.  And do the trick of you and your family, have NO other carryon.  Explain you are a working photographer or whatever and it is your instrument, and just place it carefully in the overhead bins.  You should be fine, I'd say.
FINALLY: in fact are you shipping your furniture to the USA???  if so ....... just include it. Use the original iMac box.  Put it - say - on the sofa cushions, tied down.  Of course, then you will be without your computer for a month or so.
BTW what's with these peope saying "sell your computer"?!  I would never sell a Mac, too emotionally attached!  Good luck!

  • My iMac 17 " Review

Hello, this is the first time ever I post in these Apple Discussion Forums. I have recently bought a new iMac Intel Core Duo 17 " and I'm feeling pleased with it. So I decided to write some of my thought about it. This is the first time I have a Mac and I am happy with it.
Okey lets start. It's an iMac 17 " with all default configurations, not added any RAM yet. I ordered it on tuesday night and got it friday (that's quite fast!) The box with the computer was quite small and the iMac Box was packed in the box.
Well we got home and I opened it. My first thoughts was WOW! This looks real great! The computer it self, the keyboard, the mouse and yeah everything in the box is cool. I decided to take the 17 " because it is a better price and I'm sure I will be pleased with it. However I started to plugin everything to get it work, turned the computer on and it starts a great guide easy for configuration of your computer. It gone quite easy but I had some problems to connect to internet, didn't knew that you had to put a $-mark before your connectionkey (it just told to write your password not key) and I didn't see a $-mark on the keyboard. I thought, what the heck and searched all over the Apple website to find how to do it. Asked in a macforum at the same time how and got the answer that you just click alt + the euromark and it becomes a $-mark. So that went ok. Went throught the guide well and the Mac OS X started, were some WOWS there aswell. You did not even had to put a DVD/CD into your iMac, it is just to plugin and go. One of the first things I did was to update to Mac OS X 10.4.5 and it went ok but a little slow. Of course it took a while to get used to the operatingsystem, but right now I'm feeling quite so. I had some connectionproblems with the Airport network to my router, slow download speeds and nah that don't work great. Some days after I connected it instead not using wireless and the internetspeed is great. One big disseapointment is that movietrailers don't work right now on Front Row, else it is a good program. They will probably fix it.
The screen is bright, very bright. The iMac is thin, doesn't use so much space of your desk and it just looks great. The screensize is good. It is just to put a DVD or CD in the iMac and it works good. You can for exemple put a good CD in there and it will automaticly (you can choose options for that) open iTunes and you see all the songs there. You can easily import them to your iTunes Libary and listen whenever you want. The keyboard is good and the mouse is also good. The built-in iSight webcam is very cool, have lots of laughts when using it, was one of the first things I did when first time using my iMac. Photobooth is great and fun and the quality is quite good. It's cool that the apple remote you get can sit on the right side of the computer.
    Pros:
The computer is in the screen and the computer looks nice.
Built in iSight with Photobooth and Front Row.
You can connect it to a 23 inches screen.
It is fast and works good.
Games tested runs good on it (World of Warcraft for example).
    It is quiet.
    Mac OS X
    Cons:
    The price, could be cheaper.
Not options to connect it to bigger screens than 23 inches.
They should have 1 GB RAM atleast as default not only 512 MB RAM.
    Bad wireless internet speed.
Overall: I like it! I would reccomand to buy the new iMac 17 " to anyone, it works and looks great. Buy it!

I have a 17" model also and after initially setting it up I thought that I should have gotten the 20" model. After about an hour I realized that the 17" is perfect for me.
I actually don't think the price is too bad. I just saw the new Alienware Area-51 5400 (all-in-one PC) in Wired magazine. It has a 17" LCD, Intel Core Duo, built in wireless and Bluetooth, built in camera, 128mb of Vram, maximum of 2GB if RAM and maximum HD size of 160GB and it's priced $700 more than the similarly setup 17" iMac.
I don't think that PC fans can claim that the iMac is too expensive now.

  • Display To Match aluminum iMac

Hi there, my first post on here
I have a 24" aluminum iMac, i would like to have a second display. I would like to find a monitor that looks just like the iMac. Does anyone know of one that exists please?
Failing that i will use a cinema display.
    Thanks for you time
    Z

Your iMac has a Mini-DVI port at the back to connect a second monitor.
Depending upon which Display you settle on you will need either a *Mini-DVI to DVI adaptor* or a *Mini-DVI to VGA adaptor* -
    http://store.apple.com/us/browse/home/shopmac/macaccessories/cables?mco=MTI2MjY
Any monitor you get will come with its own signal cable. The adaptor fits between the iMac and the Display's signal cable (i.e. iMac - adaptor - signal cable - display).
When you connect it all up and boot up the iMac, the second display will be detected automatically. You then need to go into +System Preferences/Displays+ where you will find a new option has appeared called 'Arrangement'. Open 'Arrangement' to -
    a) *deselect 'Mirror'* if you want an +extended desktop+ (unlikely you will want the same display on both screens unless you do a lot of presentations), and
    b) drag the diagram representing your second display to a position in relation to your iMac's own screen to match the actual physical position of your second display. (my second display is to the right of my iMac so the blue box representing my second display needed to be to the right of the iMac box).
    A piece of cake.
    Hope this helps
PS. My second screen is a different aspect ratio to the iMac display so, in Arrangment, it was easy to tell which blue rectangle represented which screen. If your new screen has the same aspect ration as your iMac screen they will look the same. I suspect the blue rectangle that represents your new second display will initially be the right hand one (just guessing though). You will soon work out which is which however.
PPS. Here's a suggestion (or three) for a display -

  • HELP I can't import my photos from my Cannon to the Cannon app on my imac on Snow Leopard!

HELP - I just installed Snow Leopard & though I've uploaded photos from my Cannon Power Shot A590, since then ... But today while it opened the Cannon "Camera WIndow" & looks like the photos are being uploaded, an iMac box appears showing a: "failed to initialize program" message!!! Why
I've tried several times & can't import my latest photos from my Cannon to the Cannon app on my iMac, it doesn't recognize it? (I look at them there & often delete photos from the camera, then I import them to iPhoto.)
I've had a number of problems with Snow Leopard - in iPhoto, iWork, etc, since installing it. What gives?

I would also suggest that you check out iPhoto or Image Capture - both already in the Applications folder on your Mac - which should be heaps better than the Canon software. And, for what it's worth, you actually do not need any software to get pics onto your Mac - if you have your preferences set to display external drives on your desktop, the Canon icon should show up as soon as you plug it in. You can simply double click the icon and then look at the pics with Preview to decide if you want to keep or ditch it.
And the problems with your SL install most likely are the result of other apps not being up to date or compatible with SL - that happens every time. You need to check on compatibility of all the apps you have to you'll know what needs to be updated.

  • Dirty Black Blotches inside my brand new iMac screen, behind the glass

My brand new 21 inch iMac has some blotches in the screen. I didn't notice at first because my wallpaper is very colorful and has some blotch designs on it, but I opened a textedit document and the blotches are very visible on the plain white background. I tried wiping the surface of the glass with the cloth that comes in the iMac box only to discover that the blotch marks are BEHIND the glass!
Please HELP! :-O I tried calling the 1-800 apple support number for my country (Philippines) but the number doesn't work or is not supported by my phone company or mobile phone company. I took a picture of the defects and was hoping to email it to apple, but I cannot find a proper support email address on the apple.com site. Is there a way to attach them to this forum thread? It is quite frustrating and I don't know what to do.
What steps should I take to remedy this?

  • Packaging a 27-inch iMac packaging

    Hi all-
I bought a 27-inch iMac last fall and threw away the packaging -- but now I'm somewhat unexpectedly moving cross-country this year and need to ship it.  FedEx literally doesn't carry boxes this big, but they said that they'd insure it if I packed it in the original packaging. Anyone know how to lay their hands on an empty 27-inch iMac box and styrofoam inserts? Would an Apple Store give or sell them to me if I asked? Would I need some protection for the screen beyond the styrofoam? Has anyone else done this in some other way?
    Thanks in advance,
    Josh

  • CS4 on Win 7 iMAC install issue.

    Hi,
I am installing Cs4 suite on an iMAC running Windows 7.  Install fails after "checking system profile" with the error "Setup has encoutered an error and can not contiue.  Contact support" and then exits.  Any idea what the issue maybe?  I have installed it previously on my none IMAC boxes fine so maybe something specific to the imac hardware.
    Thanks,

I would recommend reviewing the Analyze the Creative Suite 5 or CS5.5 PDapp log section of Troubleshoot with install logs | CS5, CS5.5 - http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/troubleshoot-install-logs-cs5-cs5.html#main_Analy ze_the_Creative_Suite_5_PDapp_log.  By reviewing the PDApp.log you should be able to determine what is causing the installation to fail prior to being able to actually begin the install process.

  • IMac build to order packaging

I ordered a build to order iMac with the 3.4ghz core i7 processor but the box the iMac came in says core i5 on the side?
Is this the same for everyone? I have seen some unboxing videos where the iMac box actually has the core i7 image on the side.
When I order a build to order iMac is it a case of the apple tech just opens up a stock model version and replaces the chips inside and sticks it back in the box and re-seals it ready for shipping? Or do they build them from scratch putting them in their own individual core i7 branded packaging?

Yes its a core i7 inside but I have had to exchange it twice already because of dust under the glass and the second one had streak marks under the glass from where someone had wiped the glass.
Im thinking this would not happen if the machine was built from scratch on an assembly line. Opening an already assembled stock model removing the glass and replacing parts is not built from scratch.
I am particular about my products. So if I order an i7 iMac I would like the packaging it comes in to reflect that. The second iMac I returned arrived in a battered iMac box which belonged to a 2010 model imac.
I'm paying alot of money for these products so I expect a certain level of quality.

  • Can't figure out how to send photos to outside lab

Hello, I am new to Apple products and have had my iMac desktop for one week.   I am not very computer savy to start with and it is so different from my old pc.   I also have a new camera - Nikon D7100 - so I am attempting to learn TWO new things.  At least my camera came with a user's manual.  With my iMac I am stumbling through trial and error and taking up way too much time.   I tried using iPhoto but ended up losing my photo library I started (somehow it just disappeared after a series of error messages saying it was attempting to repair the library).  I ended up buying the Aperture app beause I want to be able to do more with photos for my art business. Now I am thinking iPhoto wasn't so bad, all except loosing my library, of course.  It was very simple to use.  But once I learn more I think I will appreciate  Aperture and at least through Aperture I was able to have my photo library restored.   I do not have a good printer yet, however, so I am attempting to have an outside print lab download my pictures to have the prints mailed to me.  (Note: I used to use Snapfish but didn't like my last batch of pics.  Someone suggested Walgreen's Photo Lab.   Maybe someone has a better suggestion.)
However, I cannot download my pictures to any outside site because they said they must be in jpeg format.  My camera is set to take ONLY jpeg photos right now - I need to master this before even attempting raw - so the problem must be on the software use end.  When I transfer pics from my camera to my computer, Aperature (or is it thru iPhoto to Aperature I don't know) it gives them a name without a suffix attached.  I see that they identify the photo as JPEG at the top of the Info screen and I can go in and change the name and make it SAY .jpeg but even then I cannot download it to an outside photo lab for the same reason - "must be in jpeg format."    Plus to change the name to include the suffix .jpeg I am having to do that one picture at a time - there must be an easier way.  How do I make them all be .jpeg photos that can be recognized by outside photo labs?
I would be open to sending my pics to the Apple photo print lab but I can only figure out how to send ONE at a time and that seems very impractical so I am obviously doing something wrong there.  How does the Apple photo lab compare to others?   How do I send a batch of photos at one time?
One other question not related to photos - With my p.c. I had a mouse that would let me right-click and move, copy or delete highlighted areas.  I cannot find that function at all with my iMac.  Is there a "right click" type of function on this computer?   I have this cool touch-pad.  No more mouse.   Sorry to be do dense.  I need users manuals I guess.  More hours.   I would appreciate any help so I can spend more time outside in my garden instead of hunched over my computer in frustration.   Thank you!
Oh, one more thing.  I cannot figure out my operating system.   My iMac box says "Preinstalled OS X and iLife4"    How can I find what version I have? That would be helpful.

Try this to learn about using keys:
    http://www.apple.com/support/macbasics/
You can also use your PC mouse.
As for iPhoto, it sounds like you were trying to move files around in the library. That is a bib no-no in Aperture or iPhoto.

  • How do you burn a data disc  in ML

    Hi
I would like to burn  a few install programs to a data disc  so that should I ever need to I can reinstall them  but I  am a a loss as how to do this in mountain lion on 2012 imac  I do have a superdrive  but since i haven't done this before  not sure how to go about it.  I have  several installer  downloads  I purchased , I just don't want to repurchase them later if I can help it . thanks for all help:)
also on another note but maybe related  can I use  my old idvd program from ( not for this but future home movies )  my 2008 imac  box set???

In addition to Clinton's method (which is handy if you already have the data files in one place or are willing to move or copy them into one place), you can also make use of "burn folders" -- special folders of aliases that "Burn (name) to disc" will follow while burning. When you drag any file or folder into a burn folder, an alias is created (much faster than copying the data, and less disruptive then moving it).
Search for "burn folder" in Finder Help for more information.

  • File Sharing Problem

    Hi
I have a serious problem with file sharing, someone please help.
I shared a folder "Accounts". The permissions for this "Accounts" folder is as follows:
    David - read/write
    User 1 - read/write
    User 2 - read/write
    User 3 - read/write
    Everyone - No Access
I shared another folder "Software". The permissions for this "Software" is as follows
    David - read/write
    User 4 - read/write
However when I login as User 4, I can access the Software folder AND for the strangest reason, I can ALSO ACCESS Accounts folder!I tested the similar setup on my MackBook Pro, it looks properly. I cannot figure out why this is happening on the iMac box.
    Please help...
    David

I have done some more testing, and this is what I found. If the Accounts folder does not reside on an external drive, but created instead on the drive that comes with the Mac, User 4 actually does not see the Account drive.
The Accounts folder resides on an external hard drive with the following info:
