24" iMac builtin Camera be used with OnLocation?

Hello,
I cannot get OnLocation to find my iMac built-in camera.
24" iMac
Is this not supported?
Thanks,
Huntër

Afraid not since OnLocation will ONLY accept video over FireWire.

  • Best video camera to use with iMove '11 for iMac

I'm looking for the best video camera with no difficulties for iMovie. Just to be able to plug in the camera with out having to load additional software or any other difficulties.
Or if any one else knows what type of file format is specifically needed for macs? MPG4 or AVI?
    Thank you!

I'm interested to buy a Nikon photocamera Coolpix S8100.
This camera is NOT on Apple's list of supported cameras to use with iMovie 11. Nor is the camera Canon SD3500 as mentioned by you, I thought ...
Do you think I could use the Coolpix S8100 camera as well with iMovie 11 ?
    Or could I meet a problem ?
In my opinion, the camera will work with iMovie '11, HOWEVER....
I have a Canon SX30IS bridge camera [that is, not a camcorder], and the HD videos work absolutely fine on iMovie with one - for me - important problem.
As my camera is also not supported, when any number of short video files are loaded in together, iMovie will not understand the sequence they were taken in, and MAY load them in a fairly random order into a project.
This is not a problem where one or two files are concerned, but where there are more, it can be a major problem if you want them used in sequence.
You either have to load them into the project one by one, manually, or be able to identify clearly from the thumbnails which is which, or the order will be all wrong. It IS possible to relate what you see as a thumbnail back to the original file, but only one file at a time, so you can't use the thumbnails to work out the order, if the images shown don't do that for you.
I have used videos from 5 unsupported digital cameras, and even an 8mm cine conversion file quite successfully, so I have no doubt that the Nikon will also work.

  • What's a good HD camera to use with Premiere Pro CS4

I've used Premiere Pro CS4 for a while now and most of the time I don't have any problems, but recently, I've been buying HD cameras, shooting some AVCHD and then having a hell of a time getting them to play nice with Premiere Pro (or WMindows Media Player... or Quicktime... or anything but their crappy bundled software that won't let me edit or anything). My girlfriend says I should give up and buy a Mac and use FCP, but I like Premiere Pro. I'm about to take another camera back to Best Buy and I'm wondering if anyone has a suggestion for the easiest camera to use with Premiere Pro.
In case you're wondering, I've bought a Canon Vixia HF10 and a Samsung HMX-H100 so far and both had every issue I can think of from codec incompatibility to aspect ratios changing to A/V sync being lost to all-out-I-don't-know-WTF-just-happend-errors. I just want a camera that's going to give me a file I can drop straight into Premiere.

Unless you want a new computer, forget about AVCHD. It requires too much muscle to edit comfortably on anything but the fastest computer.
What camera is nice, depends on your budget. Formats that are easy to edit are HDV, DVCProHD (P2) and XDCAM. In the consumer range you could look at the Canon HV40 or XH-A1s, in the prosumer range look at the Panasonic AG-HPX170, Canon XH-H1s, JVC GY-ND250 or Sony HVR Z5 or Z7 and all Sony XDCAM cameras, especially the EX1 and EX3. In the professional range look at the Sony PDW-F355 or upward.

  • Can a Panasonic HD Camera be used with Adobe Flash Media Live Encoder 3.2

Can a Panasonic HD Camera be used with Adobe Flash Media Live Encoder 3.2 instead of my Laptop webcam.

yes it can but you need an in/out device to "link" the HDMI output from your HD camera to your computer via, USB or firewire
BlacMagic sell those, Matrox and AJA are some of the other brands on the market.

  • Recommendations for Semi-Pro or Pro HD Video camera to use with fcp and Mac

Recommendations for Semi-Pro or Pro HD Video camera to use with fcpX and Mac with auto settings and ability to override, need to add external mic or 2.  Am one person crew so needs to be easy to use.

And check out the Panasonic AG-AC90.  Very good specs for a prosumer unit. Everything in the semi-pro area will involve trade offs for sure. Key thing is to study up enough to know what your needs are vs what trade off are involved in the various models. The ag-ac90 trade off (one of them) is diffraction limited sharpness.

Yep. Exchanged for black and that solved it. Too much light leaks through the glass on the white phone.

  • Camera for use with Cisco Unified Video advantage?

Cisco is EOLing the Cisco Unified video advantage product that we thought would be a good fit for us to integrate video with some of our IP Phones.  I can still order the Video Advantage software until later in the year from Cisco but they have discontinued the Cisco VT Camera III that was previously used with this product.
They list the Logitech C920-C web cam as a replacement for this product, but it seems to be difficult to locate.  The realease notes say you can use a 3rd party camera but Cisco does not officially support it.
Has anyone used any third party cameras with Cisco Unified Video advantage and if so which would you recomend.  I was hoping to use the Logitech HD Pro Webcam C920 (the generic non Cisco version) but wasn't sure if it would work ok?
What do you think?  This will be using Unified Video Advantage 2.3.
    Jim

    Hi,
We have been using Video advantage v 2.1.2 with 7940 series phone since long, it works fine with almost all 3rd party camera`s and even with the inbuilt laptop cameras.
v 2.3 is an enhanced version as compared the one which we are using. So i would suggest you to go ahead and try it with any good qaulity webcameras available in market.
Further to add there are certain PC requirements which needs to be met, the same can be found in the below link.

  • Cameras to use with FCE

I'm interested in upgrading from Imovie seeing as I know it like the back of my hand and feel limited by it at this point. I'm looking to get a new camera in the spring of this year, and I'm wondering what kind to get if I want a good one for a good price that would be great with FCE 4.
Does everybody use Mini Dv cameras with this software? I don't see these in stores, and it this point to me it seems like they are old, clunky, and outdated. I'm no expert, but that's just the impression I get from them, so why are those the primary cameras used with FCE?
So if anybody can answer these questions, and provide me a list of a few good cameras (Mini Dv or not) that would work with the program and not cost a fortune, I would be much obliged!

FCE can work with DV, HDV and AVCHD camcorders.
Most consumer/prosumer camcorders on the market today are AVCHD camcorders or a variation of AVCHD. Be aware - if the camcorder doesn't have the *AVCHD logo* or doesn't *specifically state in the specs* that it's AVCHD, then it's probably not AVCHD. Even if it says it's H.264 or MPEG4/AVC that does not automatically make it AVCHD - a lot of people have been burned not watching out for this.
DV is, as you said, on the way out. 4:3 aspect ratio & standard def; however, decent DV camcorders can do anamorphic 16:9 and it turns out quite nice. So, you can do widescreen with many DV camcorders. HDV is still around and has a loyal following. There are some very nice HDV camcorders - Canon HV20/30/40 for example - and they're not too expensive.
Another thing to keep in mind is that even though you shoot high def with HDV or AVCHD, when it comes time to burn a DVD of your video it will be standard def - because DVDs are by definition standard def. To burn hi-def optical disks, you have to get a BluRay burner, BluRay authoring software (DVD Studio Pro, Toast) and of course BD media. It's not cheap.

  • Camera in use with another app.  BUT IT ISN"T

Wonder if anyone has got this problem. I installed Tiger and made all the updates. Since doing that my ichat keeps telling me my camera is in use with another application and asks me to quit it before I can use it with iChat.
As I only have iChat open at the time (& finder of course) then there is nothing to quite and I can't get iChat to recognize the camera. its a panasonic 3CCD and worked perfectly with Panther.
    Any suggestions please

I used to have this happen, but not recently. I still don't know the cause, but have found an answer that works most of the time for me, and a few others I V-C with.
Close all apps that can involve a webcam. Disconnect the FW cable from either your camera or the Mac, momentarily, then reconnect it. That should launch iChat, and have the camera again recognized by iChat as available.
Not very elegant, but works most of the time for me.
My iSight use to have mic problems in Panther. Often after the first launch of iChat, the mic wouldn't function. Unplugging the FW cable would cure that as well. This has not happened in Tiger.

  • What are the best low cost web cams to use with a Macbook Pro?

I want to use both the Mac internal camera and a remote camera for teaching on Skype and I am therefore looking for the best solution for me - any help out there?

For Skype use, see Skype Help starting at https://support.skype.com/en/faq/FA603/which-webcams-and-headsets-will-work-with -skype?q=webcam. In general, webcams from http://www.mac-compatible-web-cam.com that meets your budget limits will work.
I suggest a USB (versus Firewire) cam.  Don't install any software that comes with it (all necessary software is included in Mac OS X 10.4.9 and later), and it should work with your Mac.
When your Mac recognizes more than one connected camera, most camera-capable applications have settings that allow you to choose which camera to use. However, they do not all work the same way.  (In most apps, the selector choices do not show if you do not have more than one camera.)
To switch Skype between your inbuilt and external webcams, select the camera you want in the "Camera" choices bar of Skype Audio/Video Preferences as shown in this image:
These previous threads contain some general information on how to select between connected camera in some other camera apps:

  • Test camera for use with ichat

I was wondering if there is a way in ichat to test whether the camera connected will operate with the application. I have a camera that operates with some software: software that it came with, and also works with Delicious Library. However, once I try to bring up ichat I cannot seem to find a way to see if I can test the video. In fact when I bring up the options for video it does not give the option at all, its grayed out on anything that has to do with video. Any suggestions?

Is it a USB camera? If so, you'll need to download the trial version of iChatUSBCam. iChat doesn't see USB cameras natively.

  • Wireless webcam / security cam for use with Intel iMac

Hi all. I want to set up an outdoor web/security cam and a wireless model would be ideal, as I want to be able to put it in different locations.
There seem to be many PC-compatible wireless cameras, but are there any which are compatible with the Mac OS? I don't really want to get into Boot Camp / Parallels territory if possible.

  • 2 imacs v 1mbp  for use with FCP and motion.

I'm in need of advice. I'm in the market for a new computer(s).
Let me give you a rundown on my situation.
HOME COMPUTER- dual 800 1GIG ram G4. probably 6-7 years old -i got it 2nd hand in 03 i think-
(its about 6 years old and very noisy and update needed)
WORK COMPUTER- AL PB G4 1.5ghz 2gig ram 17". Bees knees when released almost 4 years ago.
(redering and Motion are getting beyond tiresome with how slow they are).
The WORK computer I do all my editing on while the HOME computer I use for internet surfing, itunes etc. I use FCP for editing wedding dvds, work related videos etc. but I'm thinking of taking a break from the wedding filming & editing business to concentrate on other things. I will still continue to edit and film but not as much in the past 6 years. As of last week I don't have any projects or side jobs in the pipeline but that may change within 6 months.
MY QUESTION- What should I get?
    1. 1 x 2.6 Ghz 4gig Ram 17" MBP at around 3,500 dollars (i'm in japan so about 360,000yen) and then use my AL powerbook as my home computer
    OR
    2. 2 x imac 20inch with 4gig ram which i think comes in at just under the MBP price
    OR
    3. 1 x imac 24" 4gig ram & 1x imac 20" with 4gig ram.
Is final cut pro and motion3 going to work better on the imacs than on my current AL powerbook? surely!
I still use motion1 and that really pushes my computer to it's limits. and the last 2 years have been a hectic one editing wise so I didn't want to upgrade computers during the course of projects ongoing.
(playing with fire in my books)
THING IS i need to be able to edit at both work and home. I take a my laptop with me to work everyday, but if I were to get 2 desktops I could just use external hard drives for my projects (which I do anyway). That's why if both computers are desktops they both need to be able to handle motion 3 and fcp6 to a competent level. and if I got two desktops I could try and sell my AL PB. It's still in superb condition due to me keeping it sleeved whenever not in use.
I heard rumours that apple will be releasing new imacs sooner rather than later as well.
ANY thoughts would be highly appreciated.

From what I've read on this forum, FCP doesn't work properly with two video cards.

  • Can an intel cam be used with a powerbook G4

    intel cam model CS330
powerbook G4 has no isight/cam and runs OS 10.4.11
No macintosh drivers for the intel cam were found, only for windows OS.
Any suggestions for a driver? Photo-booth gives a "no cam found, in use by another program" when launched. No other programs are running.
    thanks

I suspect you're out of luck on a driver. OSX has drivers built-in for many devices, and for those those that don't exist the devices either have them on the device ROM or in unusual cases, separate drivers supplied with the device. There's a lot of devices that simply don't work on Macs.
