Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
If you are seeing a recurring kernel panic on your iMac, the information and steps in the article below can help troubleshoot the behavior:
Diagnosing a recurring kernel panic can be difficult. If you need help with this process, consider bringing your Mac to a Genius at an Apple Store or an Apple Authorized Service Provider for help. If you plan to visit an Apple Retail store, you can make a reservation (available in some countries only).
Tip: To help diagnose recurring kernel panics, record the date and time it occurs, and any information that appears with the kernel panic message.
Was the computer starting up, shutting down, or performing a particular task when the recurring kernel panic happened?
Is the kernel panic intermittent, or does it happen every time you do a certain thing? For example, were you playing a particular game, or printing at the time?
Does it occur only when a certain external device is connected, or a device is connected to a certain port?
Start with the troubleshooting steps in the section called "Isolate hardware or software as the cause of the issue."
OS X: When your computer spontaneously restarts or displays "Your computer restarted because of a problem."

IMac Mid 2010 kernel panic after wake up from sleep mode
Hello.
One month ago starting my iMac Mid 2010 occasionally goes to kernel panic. When I click on mouse or press any key, system starting up, but very very slowly, (time on logon screen stay same without refresh) and after few minutes (from 1 - 10 minutes) kernel panic message is appear on screen. I have Mac OS 10.7.5 version installed.
Is there any tool to debug what is wrong. Windows OS has WinDebuger to detaily look inside to core dump and analyze it and in my experience almost allways is possible to detect root of problem.
First of all i was try HW diagnostic from DVD, succesfully passed. Then I run Permission Repair procedure, there were many folders and files with different ACL as system expected.
It is possible that graphic card driver is wrong or has bug from my point of laic view.
I have minimum application with kext installed into system:
VMware fusion
NTFS-3g ( long time same version )
There is part of long kernel panic message:

MacPro early 2008 kernel panic at startup - need help!
I have a MacPro early 2008 with OS 10.7.5 and I can't get it to restart without getting a kernel panic error. I get it at the grey screen at normal startup, safe mode, and trying to boot from the original install disk. I reset SMC and PRAM and still nothing. Running the extended diagnostics last night turned up no error codes. Any ideas?
Not sure what else to try at this point other than ordering a replacement graphics card which could be a chore to find in itself. Is there anyway to confirm if that is it?
Thanks!this is the last one I got before everything stopped.

IMac G5 (iSight) kernel panics
I'm having continuous kernel panics with my iMac G5.
I unplugged all external drives/accessories.
I removed additional RAM.
I zapped the PRAM.
I rebooted with different disks (all crash sooner or later -- often sooner).
I ran Techtool pro (in target more) - drive is OK.
( could not run Techtool Pro from its DVD )
I ran the Apple Hardware Test (v 2.5.3) and all (extended) tests passed.
I'm at a loss as to what to try next. Can you boot from your install disc? If so, run Disk Utility:
1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc that came with your computer, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
3. Click the First Aid tab.
4. Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
5. Select your Mac OS X volume.
6. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk.
It may well be that your logic board is failing, although kernel panics are usually, but certainly not always, software problems. but see if you can start up in Single-User-Mode:
(Hold the cmd()+S when you hear the tone and release when you see the Apple logo) this will give you a black screen with text (command-line) wait till it finishes booting up and you have a command prompt(localhost:/root#) then type in (/sbin/fsck -fy) this verifies and repairs your startup drive. If it finishes and reports the hard drive has been modified---repeat the command-line entry as above.
Do that until it report the hard drive is OK. then type in (reboot).
Also see if you can boot in Safe Mode (to "Safe Boot"), do this:
1. Be sure the computer is shut down.
2. Press the power button.
3. Immediately after you hear the startup tone, press and hold the Shift key.
Tip: The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone but not before.
4. Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple and progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
During the startup in Mac OS X 10.2 through 10.3.9, you will see "Safe Boot" on the Mac OS X startup screen.
During the startup in Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you will see "Safe Boot" on the login window, which appears even if you normally log in automatically.
To leave Safe Mode in any version of Mac OS X, restart the computer normally, without holding any keys during startup.
If the computer runs well during safe mode, then it is some software to blame, which is often the case for kernel panics. If it still panics, then hardware is to blame. -
Hi,
my imac crash with a kernel panic many times per day, many applications are unable to open correctly and the close after 1 or 2 seconds.
I suspect a memory problem but i am not sure. here is the dump of the last crash.
thanks

IMac keeps freezing - kernel panics and other
My iMac keeps freezing on me. Sometimes I get a notice that my computer experience a kernel panic and upon restart have the option of sending the info to Apple, other times it just feezes and I have to do a hard restart but get no prompts about the improper shutdown. This usually happens when I'm working in Adobe Premiere Pro and Adobe After Effects at the same time.
Am I just overloading the system? And if so, why would it allow me to do that? Shouldn't it just run really slowly or have one application freeze, not the entire system? This hasn't been a problem in the past, it just recently started happening more and more often. Do I need more Ram? That's pretty much the only thing I can upgrade. Here are my system specs, please let me know if you have any suggestions for things I can do to prevent this from happening again. Thank you! Thanks for the replies. Baltwo I'll try running those test and see if they find anything.
Here's a recent Kernel panic log:

Colin,
I'd recommend reading this article about KP's. It explains what they are, what they're caused by and how to fix the problem.

Alternatively, run Apple Hardware Test. -
IMac 5K random kernel panics and rebooting
My brand new iMac 5k (I received 10 days ago) is randomly freezing, then showing kernel panic message and rebooting itself. It happens almost everyday at work with no apparent reason. Already tried reinstallling OS X, SMC and PRAM reset with no luck. The iMac is configured to never sleep, and it happens while using it, so no related with wake-up problems I read everywhere.
it's a maxed out iMac 5K (i7, 32GB of RAM, 3TB FD and the 295X 4GB VRAM) with updated Yosemite.
No peripherals attached (except an external USB 3.0 Lacie hard drive with video files for editing), no uncommon sofrware installed (only Final, Avid, Adobe Suite and Skype, Dropbox, etc.) and still happening randomly.
I had a chat with AppleCare and they told me I have 2 options:
- Taking it to service for revision.
- Asking for a refund or replacement.
Of course, I will not take it to revision (it's brand new!), but I don't know if ask for refund or replacement for a new one, because I readed too many iMac 5K users with similar problems. Does anyone knows if it is a common problem with iMacs 5K? If I ask for a replacement and still happens, can I ask then for a refund? The warranty entitles you to complimentary phone support for the first 90 days of ownership.
If you bought the product in the U.S. directly from Apple (not from a reseller), you have 14 days from the date of delivery in which to exchange or return it for a refund. In other countries, the return policy may be different. If you bought from a reseller, its return policy applies. -
5 month old iMac, over 200 kernel panics, why??!!!
So I've only had this iMac for about 5 months and I've gotten over 200 kernel panic errors! I already had to have my hard drive replaced because of the Seagate recall, but after getting my computer back after that, I still have problems. It happens all the time, whether I'm doing literally nothing or in the middle of editing something in fcp. It's extremely hard to run my video production company when my computer can't even handle capturing footage from my camera. I'm taking this pos to the Apple store this Thursday, but I'm curious what you all think is the problem. And what do you think Apple will do? Basically, the way I see it right now, I paid $2,400 for a huge paper weight! I'm so frustrated with this thing, I want them to either fix the problems or just give me a new machine. I'm afraid having to hard shut down and restart the computer has damaged my computer, but I don't know. Any guidance is appreciated.
Thank you.See

Hi,
I've been getting kernel panics happening every few days. Here's the log from the most recent one but every single entry from the previous crashes are the same.

Well, I'm no good at reading these logs, have you have a look at Dr Smoke's XLabs?

IMac G4 800MHz - Kernel Panics and Blank Screen At Startup
Two days ago, I was listening to iTunes, just browsing the internet, and suddenly I got a kernel panic. Yesterday, the exact same thing happened. After that, I got frustrated and just left it alone until today. When I attempted to turn on my iMac G4 800 MHz today, the screen does not turn on and the mouse does not even receive power. The only thing that appears to receive power is the power LED on the display.
I experimented with it for a few minutes and found that if I unplug the power cord for a few minutes, plug it back in, and turn the computer back on, the screen will turn on. However, as soon as I log in, I get another kernel panic, and it goes back to the screen not turning on.
Any suggestions?::UPDATE::
Okay, I eventually got my iMac to start up successfully, without crashing after logging in. But I still thought there was something wrong so I booted from the Apple Hardware Test CD that came with my computer and I got yet ANOTHER Kernel Panic! Here is what it said:
Kernel Panic Message:

This message appeared soon after it began testing the memory. The result of the test were as follows:
Test Results:

Modem Device Found

And now it is back to not booting up at all!
Does anyone have any suggestions based on the new kernel panic message?
Thank you for your help.

Imac...kernel paniced..turning on but black screen
imac with intelcore... was working in imovie.. had itunes and ichat open as well.... it came up with "kernel panic" display... i held power button for 10secs... it turned off... i left it off for about 10mins, upon restarting it came up wiht a blue or gray screen then went compeletly blank (black as if it where off) the glowing sleep button is on and it makes nosies like its edjecting a cd (no cd in it)which lasts for about a 30sec or so.... ive tried to restart again by holding down the power ... unpluging and disconnecting all usb, internet...etc ..holding the option key,etc ... and nothing still the same issue
im a new users i dont know much about the computer
any help please im a college student and i need it!!!Try unplugging the machine's power cord itself for a few seconds (15 secs should do it) and then plug in back in. This should reset the System Management Controller (SMC) and may allow you to at least restart the machine.
Then check your panic.log file located at your Library/Logs folder and see what is causing these panics...Here is a link for a brief explanation of kernel panics: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106227
Here's a link to resetting the SMC on Apple's support pages: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303446
If this doesn't work you can try resetting the PRAM by holding down the Command-Option-P-R keys when starting up the computer. Here's the link to doing that on Apple's support pages: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=2238
