24" iMac HD Replacement & Warranty

I have an early 2008 iMac 24" with a 500 GB HD. I also have the extend Apple warranty that is good until May 2011.
If I take the iMac to a service center listed on the Apple website and have them replace the hard drive with a 2 TB HD will my warranty still be good?
Is there a particular drive I should be looking for or to avoid? I want to dual boot with Windows 7 and have 1 TB for each OS.

The warranty should be good however the replacement drive would not be covered as that wasn't what originally came in the iMac. When you say it has an "extended Apple warranty" I'm assuming you mean AppleCare.

No. Wiping the HD will erase the OS on it.

  • Hard Drive failure in 2011 iMac... warranty/price?

    Hello,
I have a 21.5" Intel Core i7 iMac with a 1TB hard drive (custom ordered from Apple).  Got it in July 2011 with the extended 3-year AppleCare warranty.  The only thing I've ever put into it was 8GB of extra memory, shortly after I purchased it.
Yesterday. I started hearing random clicking from the computer... for 5-10 seconds... and it would go away.   Later in the day, I started to hear it louder and longer.   Each time it happened, the little loading pinwheel would pop up and my programs would start to lag out.   I turned off the computer, let it rest a while, and got on again.  Did something similar this morning, but did not last too, too long.
Later in the day, I decided to convert over a VHS tape to my computer using an EyeTV Tuner.  The VHS tape was a 2-hour recording.  I went to another room to watch something on cable and left it to do it's thing.  When I came back, the fan in the computer was going "VVVRRRFFFF!!!!!!" very loudly (I heard it the next room over) and when I came back in, I heard "click, click, click, click, click, click," etc).  I was able to move the mouse a little before the whole thing froze up, but nothing on screen moved and the higher lefthand corner of the screen was missing the menu icons.
I pretty much assume that the hard drive it failing me for whatever rason.  I had this happen to my PowerMac G4 in 2000, so I'm not too unfamiliar with the signs.  I turned it off for a bit, and then when I started it up, immediately started backing up what I needed and deleting space so I can do a final Time Machine update on it.
ANYWAY... I don't know what to do at this point other than contact my local Apple reps at my earliest convenience to see what can be done to fix it... but I'm curious to know if a replacement might be covered under the AppleCare warranty?  My Applecare warranty runs out in late July of this year, so I'm hoping they can do something for it. Outside of that, I'm not sure what kind of service/product fee there might be for a replacement.  Has anyone experienced this recenty to know what how this is generally handled??  I did some moving things around a few months ago with my documents and I'm not sure offhand where my Applecare papers are right now, but I know if I look the serial up on the website, it shows as still active.  Would I need to present them with the paper directly?  Does anyone know?
    Thanks.

AppleCare will cover the total repair at no charge. Contact them immediately and make an appointment to take your machine into your local Apple Store or AASP.

  • IMac Neck replacement

    Hi,
I need a new neck on my iMac G4 really badly, it wont stay in the position you want it to. I was looking through ebay and I saw a new one that belonged to a 15 in USB 2 model. Can I use that neck in my 17 model? To me when I compare the two necks they look like they have the same connectors.

A funny thing happened some years ago, under warranty repair,
through an authorized reseller's repair department; in that they
put a weak chrome arm on my iMac G4 1.25 GHz 17" computer
and that was what they said came from Apple supply sources.
It acted a lot like a 15" iMac's arm, weaker; not able to hold up a 17".
After some discussions with Apple Support by phone and online,
I was accorded a correct part number (new, too; in wrapper even now)
and the problem was solved after my persistence and over a distance.
My iMac G4 1.25 17" computer is a USB 2.0 machine and the Apple
Part number is different than either one cited above; and it is the same
as the Apple Service Manual in pdf says it should have. The part still
has the wrapper and original supplier's name on it, installed on my iMac.
That part number may be interchangeable between the iMac 15" USB 2.0
and the iMac 17" USB 2.0 (last model) - it is: 661-2716.
Since these originally were said to contain a new wire harness with the
arm, if that is the case, there may some discrepancy in having both a
correct harness and a correct bolt-pattern on a specific model number.
{In any event, my part finally matched the computer I own; and if inComp-
USA, the authorized repair agent in my State's nearest city of size, had
not been a real hassle to get authorized extended AppleCare repairs
done, I may have bought a computer from them. But, I have an Apple
Service Manual for mine on pdf due to my needing to troubleshoot it
thoroughly at home before trusting it to their inCompetance. They mess-
ed up two logic boards and one internal RAM chip during RAM upgrade.
    If not for the warranty & inCompUSA, I'd have done a better job myself !}
A few posts I made back in the day, about the replacement chrome arm
issue, have since gone missing; as have some of those about the RAM
upgrade and the 3,000 miles of driving my iMac to the CompUSA store
for their haphazard fumblings, under AppleCare. I'm glad they closed.
Not that I doubt your findings or experience in this matter...
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • IMac screen replacement

My iMac G5 sits on a glass desk. This evening, while I was typing an email, the glass surface of the desk suddenly shattered into thousands of pieces and my precious iMac fell to the floor, where chunks of shattered glass were waiting for it. Over 60% of the pixels are destroyed, and appear either solid white or striped with colors. Needless to say, I need to replace it.
Does anyone know how much this repair might set me back? Do all the internal components need to be replaced, or can the screen itself be replaced separately? I'm assuming this is a professional repair only job.
    Any help is appreciated. Thanks!
    iMac G5 17 1.8ghz; iBook G3/700   Mac OS X (10.4.2)

I have previously seen all kinds of replacement iMac G5 parts available here:
    http://cgnusa.com
Their prices are typically high. But, they are representative of the cost of new components that you can't buy anywhere else at retail.
I just took a look at their site, and the iMac G5 stuff is all gone. Maybe their having website problems. So, you might call them.
You will need to specify whether you have the original iMac G5, the second revision G5, or the latest version to obtain the right screen. From conversations with the tech here locally, they may be different.
I am sure Apple's warranty probably won't be of much use. Considering that it was damaged physically not by manufacturer defect. So, it would be purely out of kindness if they repaired it for free.
You could probably check with your local Authorized service center for a repair estimate as well.
If the screen is the only damaged part, then you can just have it replaced.
The LCD screen mounts to the front bezel, then all the other items mount behind it (on the first two versions). The latest version has the LCD panel mounted first, then the other items.
The LCD panel can be removed and replaced individually in all of the iMac G5 systems.
If you want, you can connect an external VGA monitor to the iMac G5 and see if everything else seems to work fine.
This might help you to determine whether you're better off buying a replacement, or getting it fixed.
With refurbished units starting around $800, it's hard to justify spending too much on repairs.
    Best of luck to you.

  • HT201436 How can i delete the messages on my phone. I need to disable it to send back to the replacement warranty place. they told me i had to disable the phone. the type of phone i have is a Samsung Galaxy Centura android powered 3.5 touchscreen, android

How can I delete my voice mail messages on my Samsung Galaxy Centura cause i need to send  it into warranty replacement, and they say I need to disable my phone. The recording just says its full and won't let me listen to any messages. When I call my voicemail it asks me to enter my password, but the keyboard won't come up.
Is there a way I can call from another phone and get my messages and erase them, before sending the phone off to warranty.I don't want my personal info tampered with.

If you have a Samsung phone why are you asking in an Apple iPhone forum?

  • Imac 27 replacement question

    hi all
i have recived friday my new imac from apple online store but it has a very bad yellow tint.
i'm from italy and my imac is a week12.
the replacement imac in substitution is new or a refurbished products?
or is better to ask for a refound and re do a new apple online store order?
    hi and tnx

If you ordered your iMac from the online store, they will want you to return it to them (they'll provide the shipping information/approval), and they'll send you a new iMac. You can ask for a refund I believe but they may want to replace it. I am not sure of the process in Italy.
I do not understand why you want a refund if you then want to order another iMac from the online store. Sounds like a return and replacement is what you really want to do.
Make sure you have applied all firmware and software updates to your current iMac. Check using "Software Update" from the Apple menu. It may be that your problem is addressed after applying those updates.

  • How can I get product replacement warranty ?

This is first time I’ve used Apple product.
I choose Macbook Pro 15 inch With Retina Display (MC976) for my first Apple device. I love this stuff so much, simply excellent OS with the coolest graphic effect ever, superfast start up, elegant aluminum unibody casing and absolutely amazing retina display screen. Until I notice the defects on headphone port after 5 months of usage (with this email, I also send you the picture of the defects). By the time I want to do my video editing project. I realize that I cannot plug my headphone onto the headphone port (maybe its possible if I just force it, but I afraid it will cause more damage so I didn’t do it).
I wonder if I can claim the product replacement thus I went to Authorized Reseller where I bought the product. However, the person in charge said it is possible to exchange the product during the first time I bought it. Other than that, there is no replacement unit guaranteed. Why I cannot ask for replacement? I know that apple warranty is one year period and my unit still under warranty.
Why I just want a product replacement option? First, I believe this was production defects. It was because my unit never fall down or crashed before. It is still in perfect condition, no scratches and another damage at all.
Second, most of apple user in Indonesia said repairment by changing certain parts will cause more damage to the unit itself such as scratches, broken screw and the most is dented. This will cause difficult process if I want to claim the warranty in later time.
The process of replacement parts also takes a very long time. They said it will at least take minimum of 10 working days and it will surely hamper my daily activities.
Also, I doubt the Indonesian AASP (Apple Authorized Service Provider) technician ability to repair MC976 which is premium product with high detail and complexity.
I admit that it is my fault that I didn’t do thorough physical check the first time I open the box. But I know that Apple is a premium brand and there is almost no chance such thing will happen. Unlucky for me to just notice it after so long.
I hope all of you can give the best solution for my problem. Thank You.

  • 24" IMAC 09 - Replacing HDD -  Size, Hybrid, speed?

HDD went down, got it back but it's not right.  Am replacing, would like to get Hybrid, but seems they are all 2.5", use adapter, probably not, Recommendations for HDD, 1 tb, 7,200 RPM, 6GBS?  Just inquiring what people are using, and am especially interested in the hybrid (HDD/SSD) option, If so will probably have to wait till they move off the 2.5 and on the 3.5 perhaps.  Awaiting response.

Should work fine, good luck with the upgrade!

  • MacBook Pro 13" guts completely replaced, warranty extension?

My MB Pro 13" has had its entire guts replaced once, meaning the logic board etc are all different from what originally shipped with the computer, and are a couple of months newer. I'm pretty sure this is supposed to extend one's warranty, as my hardware is technically different, but I have not received an extension? How does one go about receiving one?

    Boris,
When service is performed on your machine, Apple offers a 90-day limited warranty on the entire machine after the service is completed. If the remainder of your one-year limited warranty is greater, you would still be entitled to that. If you have the AppleCare Protection Plan on the machine, then it would still be covered by that if the remainder on that is greater.

  • Imac 2006 - replace Install disk

    Hi all,
I was trying to re-install Tiger in my (really OLD ) iMac 2006 24. However, seems like it the install disk is corrupted
since the installation cannot continue after a point. To verify that the disk was the problem I did the disk verification
    step but it fails.
This model is so old that I don't know what to do to replace the disk. However, I still want to use the computer since
it's still OK for my parents since the only thing they need is just to check e-mail, skype and watching DVDs.
    Any ideas?
    thank you

Make sure the disk is REALLY clean. No smudges or scratches. If that doesn't help you should be able to order a replacement set from Apple.

  • IMac HD replacement

    Hi,
I have an iMac 24" 3.06ghz early 2008 iMac that I'd like to upgrade the HD. Can I use the Western Digital WD20EARS 2TB drive to replace it? Would it work or is there a more appropriate drive for my iMac? Thank for helping.
    Tahitiwaves

You're looking for a 3.5" serial ATA (SATA) drive. Newegg has these 2TB drives available:
    http:/http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=100007603%2060 0003269%20600003300%20600003340&IsNodeId=1&bop=And&Order=RATING&PageSize=20
I like Newegg for their user feedback and clearly (for the most part) identifying drive warranties. In the 2TB range, many are 5 years.
