24" iMac - Mid 2007 - Windows 7 crashing!

So, I own the 24" iMac from mid 2007, it's running Windows 7 Home Premium with SP1 and 32-bit OS. Everything is up to date and I'm using the latest version of Boot Camp.
But here' the issue, every so often maybe once every half hour on a bad day, my iMac will do one of two things. The screen will either turn completely black or the screen will freeze - either way the computer is stil running, the fan is still on the hard disk still spinning.
Here is the full list of system specifications: http://support.apple.com/kb/sp16
I don't know what the issue is as everything is fully update including Boot Camp, Windows updates and graphic drivers - which would be a sensible guess as to what is causing the problem.
Thanks, Seb.

I'm fairly certain that you cannot use a 75GB Windows partition formatted as FAT.
I think it has to be NTFS if it is more than 32GB.
This is from an older version of the Boot Camp installation guide (OS X 10.5)
One other possibility is that the default Windows video driver used at installation is somehow incompatible with your ATI Radeon chipset.  ATI has an Apple Boot Camp driver here http://www.official-drivers.com/installer/?seed=ati&gclid=COOhrP6Vq60CFc3DKgod71 _NoA
Unfortunately that download a setup.exe file, which means you have to have Windows running in order to install it, so that won't help during installation.

  • Why won't my IMac Mid 2007 not work with ANY Microphone?

So I have recently received an IMac (Mid 2007) model that is used from my uncle. It is in GREAT condition with one flaw which I found out during a skype call. The mic didnt work. So I opened preferences, went to sound, went to input and saw that it was in "Internal Microphone". I changed it to Line In and used a separate microphone, still didnt work. Used another microphone to make sure it wasnt broken, didnt work. I have been looking online and didnt find anyone with my problem. It is so weird and I can't figure it out. On the other line the only time my friend (in the skype call) could hear anything was when I plugged in the external microphone and he thought it might work. I tried the sound with photo booth, skype, and just plain old volume. PLEASE HELP! I need to skype during my work on the computer!!! Thank you very much!
Also If you are willing to help out with other questions please do.
I have seen people run Windows 8 on a Mac product and would be willing to do that if there are no side effects to the cpu. Please tell me if there are any issues doing that, and if not tell me how.
This computer has 2GB of ram right now and is expandable to 6GB of ram. Is it possible to expand it over 6? And is it very difficult?
Should I upgrade to Mavericks. It is free and easy to download but I have been told that due to my low ram I should wait until I pump it up to 4 or 6GB of ram and then upgrade.
    THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!

Isnt line in just a fancy word for a plug that looks like headphones?
No. The term "line in" refers to the signal level the input can accept. It has nothing to do with the type of socket/plug.
I just checked what Line in is and i do have a line in spot in my mac. So why would i need to buy the IMic?
Because you need a microphone-level input, which can accept the lower level of signal that a microphone puts out, and again, no Mac has had a microphone-level input in years. Line level is a much stronger signal.
    So you need:
    - a microphone that puts out a line-level signal. There are a few, but not many.
    or
    - a USB microphone
    or
    - an audio device that can accept a microphone-level signal. The Griffin iMic is one, but there are others.
    Regards.

  • Have installed 10.10 on my iMac (mid 2007) 2.4 GHz 2Gb memory which has slowed to a crawl

have installed 10.10 on my iMac (mid 2007) 2.4 GHz me 2 GB which has slowed to a crawl

Try these in order testing your system after each to see if it's back to normal:
    1. a. Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
        b. Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
    2. Restart the computer in Safe Mode, then restart again, normally. If this doesn't help, then:
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the
COMMAND and R keys until the Utilities menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the
computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager
screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    3. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
    4. Reinstall Yosemite: Reboot from the Recovery HD. Select Reinstall OS X from the Utilities menu, and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
because it is three times faster than wireless.
    5. Reinstall Yosemite from Scratch:
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
How to Clean Install OS X Yosemite
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • Is my internal hard drive dead?!? (iMac mid-2007)

    Hi everyone,
My aluminum iMac (mid-2007) is behaving strangely recently. I'm suspecting some internal hard drive failure. Here are the symptoms:
    1) Difficult wakeups from sleep mode: two times out of three, the spinning beachball appears on each open application, making the iMac unusable, almost frozen. I have to hard reboot.
    2) One reboot out of two fails, with the "question mark folder" appearing, just like if the iMac could not detect an internal hard drive.
    3) In the Finder, the spinning beachball appeared once with an error message: "The drive has not been ejected properly". Of course I didn't eject or disconnect any drive... There was also an icon "SystemUI Server" appearing in the Dock! I was forced to hard reboot.
    4) Made all the usual stuff: all Onyx tests and repairs + Apple Hardware Test full tests + permission and disk repairs + PRAM/SMC reset... No problems detected, but nothing resolved in the end. (The only thing I haven't tested yet is Techtool Pro or DiskWarrior.)
I think this is an internal hard drive problem, but I'd like to have a confirmation from you, forum pros. Would a hard drive replacement fix the problem? Or is the internal drive OK but some connection to the drive not working anymore, making a HD replacement useless? (Sorry if this is nonsense, but I'm not very skilled in hardware stuff.)
In other words, any help would be appreciated. (And my AppleCare expired some weeks ago! Talk about bad luck...)
Thanks in advance for any help!

    D.F. wrote:
Done! Installed a new HD following the instructions of this site. Everything works perfectly again.
    Yay!
But I'm still disappointed that my original internal hard drive chose to die two weeks after my AppleCare three-year warranty expired!
The original HD was a Western Digital. Is WD a crappy brand?
You'll get widely different opinions on that. Many folks say their --cheap-- inexpensive ones are "junk;" others say they've had several that ran for years.
Some say the ones Apple uses are better quality -- not quite server grade, but better than the run-of-the mill consumer products.
As with any manufactured product, disk drives may have a few early failures (even in the first days or weeks); a few will last for many years, most will last for 2-4 years or so. Even under identical circumstances, there's no predicting the life span of any one drive.

  • How to install OS X 10.6.8 on iMac mid-2007

I try to install Snow Leopard from a DVD MC573Z/A onto my iMac mid-2007 but the machine ejects the DVD.
I see that the latest version of Snow Leopard on DVD, available from the Apple Store, is also numbered MC573Z/A
    Would that also be ejected?

The retail DVD looks like this:

  • HT1338 Software Update is not finding latest release (April 3) of Java 2012 001 Update for Mac OS X Lion 10.7.3 on iMac mid-2007 that downloaded automatically on iMac mid-2011

Software Update is not finding latest release (April 3) of Java 2012 001 Update on my iMac mid-2007, but it downloaded it automatically on my iMac mid-2011 yesterday. Both are running Mac OS X Lion 10.7.3. When I try to download the update manually from Apple on my older iMac, it downloads okay, but when I try to open the dmg file, I get a warning message saying that opening this update may make your computer LESS secure. Do you want to proceed? (I did not).
Why would Software Update find this update and install it automatically on one iMac and not the other, if they are both running the same version of Mac OS X Lion? I checked the installed software list on my old iMac and the Java update does not appear there. Why would this update make my old iMac less secure?

Recall that Java is not installed as part of Lion.
You have to install it (and are asked if you want to) when you first try to run some java stuff.
Is it possible that the iMac 2007 does not have Java yet?
Try this: open Terminal (from Utilities) and type java -version (exactly like that, with the space before the hyphen).
    What do you get?
Consistent with this theory is that the dmg thing gave you the warning - installing java might make your machine less secure because java is a means for bad guys to try to do bad things to your computer.

  • 24" iMac mid 2007 does not read full 4GB Memory

I brought a used 24" iMac mid 2007 with 2GB (one stick of 2GB in one slot) so I brought another 2GB stick same specs as the other one and my mac show only 3GB? Does anyone know the problem? Im running Mountain Lion and all updates has been made to the system.

Apple only offically supports 4GB of RAM however on my late 2007 iMac I have had 6GB running for about 3 years and it has never given problems. I'd recommend buying the 6GB kit from www.macsale.com. The exact address is:

  • IMac Mid 2007 (OS X Mavericks 10.9.4) doesn't go to sleep

Hello, i have an issue with my iMac Mid 2007 with OS X Mavericks :
On my primary account my mac never goes to sleep even if there is no app open or itunes or spotify playing.
I've tried to disable everything and restore energy savings default but didn't work
I've done a SMC reset e PRAM reset, no change.
On a partition with yosemite public beta it sleeps normally and in bootcamp partition i didn't check but i think it goes to sleep.
If i use another account with Mavericks it goes to sleep as well so there should be something wrong with my account or some app installed...
I did not install anything new recently, only chrome beta 64bit.
I have an SSD on this iMac and 6Gb of ram... i thought the problem was spotify but even if uninstalled it doesn't sleep.
pmset -g assertionts in terminal gives :

It seems there is always a process with coreaudio that prevents system from sleep.
Do i need to reinstall os x mavericks again?
I have another issue too regarding the image file preview, usually are shown but sometimes when i reboot or start my mac previews are not shown and i have to check in the finder option "Show file preview" again to get it right...
    Thanks in advance

No i've checked that before posting and i did all that steps... anyway i think i resolved my issue...
Even reinstalling mavericks didn't fix the issue, so i installed yosemite public beta 3 on my primary partition and that still didn't fix the problem with coreaudio...
    Anyway i unloaded coreaudiod
    sudo launchctl unload -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.audio.coreaudiod.plist
In Finder i moved to /System/Library/LaunchDaemons and moved to Desktop com.apple.audio.coreaudiod.plist
After reboot there was no audio and no coreaudiod process preventing sleep of course so i moved back coreaudiod.plist to /System/Library/LaunchDaemons
    and
    sudo launchctl load -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.audio.coreaudiod.plist
This enabled the audio and now in terminal pmset -g assertions shows :

That is quite normal and this way my mac goes to sleep...
I'll check if it's the latest installation of spotify causing this issue...
    Thanks for the reply.

  • Will the iMac (Mid 2007) run OS X Server?

I'm wondering the the new Aluminum iMac (Mid 2007) will run 10.4 Server. I found the procedure in http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305537 to upgrade from 10.4.10 Client but I want to verify that the newest machines are supported.

    Hi
Should add that I work for an Apple Specialist/AASP
    So do I.
I’m also aware of the link supplied by jaydisc. I think there may be a problem with installing OSX Server on the newest iMacs. I don’t base this on any inside knowledge, just a gut feeling. I’ve not heard anything decisive coming from Apple either officially or unofficially either. Hopefully someone out there has had a go already and may post something useful soon. Of course you could try it yourself and let us know. What’s the worse that could happen?

  • Imac mid 2007 with mac ox lion reformat with what os

hi i have a imac mid 2007 and i have with mac os x lion with it and i wanna reformat it because its so slow what os do i will install again?

You may just need to reinstall, not reformat:
Reinstalling Lion/Mountain Lion Without Erasing the Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • Bluetooth pane has gone missing since update from 10.10.2 to 10.10.3 on iMac mid 2007

I have a iMac mid 2007 model. I was running os x 10.10.2 with no problems. I update to os x 10.10.3 for the security issue. Now my bluetooth pane has gone missing from system preferences. I have tried everything suggested in suggested in support as it seems others have suffered the same thing on different macs. Nothing has that was suggested there has corrected this issue. Does anyone have any ideas apart from using a wired mouse and keyboard or using time machine to revert to os x 10.10.2? Let me know please.
Also booting up is slow to say the least, I can live with that though unless there is an as yet unknown by me fix.

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your documents or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this behavior; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Please take this step regardless of the results of Step 1.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled in OS X 10.9 or earlier, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of Steps 1 and 2.
