24" Imac Version 6.1 need help.
I have a 24" IMac Version 6.1, with an Nvidia GeForce 7600 GT card. The computer froze 2 days ago with a strange square artifact appearing on the screen. I had to hold the power button to shut it down. When i rebooted it just got stuck at a gray screen. I tried all the keyboard tests, but nothing seemed to help. I can't even boot from the install disc. The hardware test did actually run, but found no errors. So I gave up. Next day it did boot up, seemed fine, then five minutes in I had all these strange geometric shapes and distorted images on the screen until it froze up again, and now back to the gray screen. Any ideas? Could the video card be causing this? Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Mike
I was facing the same problem with my iPhone5 (IOS 7.1), and ended up with this thread for solution.
Turning off dial assist (settings -> Phone ->Dial Assist) worked for me but I had to *restart* my iPhone to get it working.
HTH.
Thanks,
Shahed

So I don't sync my iPad very often. My dad and I share a computer. And I decided to do it the other day. I am pretty sure I did it all correctly selecting music that I wanted not deleting playlists but it seems to be that they are gone. And music I didn't want has appeared. And now I don't have an option (with this new iOS 6.1.2) to make new playlists or edit music I don't want out.
I know I need help figuring those two things out 1 how to make a play list. There isn't a "add" button anymore in that screen I have a "you have no playlist"with a button underneath that says "go to iTunes Store" why I would need the store for that, I do not know.
Then in the songs, artists, albums sections where you used to be able to hit "edit" button to delete the music you have that you don't want. I don't seem to be able to do anything at all to get rid of the random music I have.
I need help. I know my iPad fairly well but I am not super savvy with it either. Is there a "New" button at the top right of the Playlists section of Music?
There is no Edit button to delete music, swipe sideways on the song to reveal the delete button. Tap and hold on the artwork in Artists and albums to reveal the (X) button to delete. Or connect the iPad back up to iTunes on the computer and check your sync settings for music to ensure you are syncing the right content. -
IMac: Install Java 7 need help!
Hello, I've an iMac with the newest software version, I want to install java 7 on it for a game server, but when I download it from java.com and I install it and start the server, it still says: Computer on java 6, update to 7 to run server. I already tryed to install with Terminal and direct acess to System Library, it shows that java 7 is installed, but I have to delete java 6. When I delete all java versions, apple says I have to install java SE6, what isn't java 7 but java 6! Help please!!!
The Oracle JRE is only a web plugin. If you need server-side Java, you'll have to use the Apple-supplied Java 6 runtime, or else the Oracle JDK (which is not a drop-in replacement for Apple's Java.) If your server application depends on Java 7, you'll most likely have to run it on another operating system.

Imac, snow, summer 2001, need help to restore
Hello,
I just bought a used Mac from a neighbor and in the process picked up this little Imac for free that didn't work and was headed for the trash. I have done minor repairs on our family pc's, so I was just hoping I could "fix & save" it, then pass it along to Grandma, as I have done with all of my old computers. Now that I have had a few weeks with my Pro, and I LOVE it, I want more than anything to repair the old Imac as many of you have done already.
It is an Imac, summer 2001, g3, 256, 600mhz that is giving me the blinking folder at start. I have read all the threads, and I gather it is not finding the OS to load. The firmware version says, PowerMac 4,1 4.1.7f4, which I know is not the highest to date. I have replaced the internal battery which was almost dead, checked connections on the hard drive and ram, and tried all the resets. Everything lights up and appears to be working, but it stops at the blinking folder and mac face. I even tried to start it upside down! Ho
I was able to download the Apple Hardware Test for the g3 and burn a cd. When I boot to this cd and run the quick and extended test, it says passed for all. The only cd's that were given to me with the computer are for OS X, Panther version 10.3 which was bought for it at a later date. But when I try to reinstall the OS X, 10.3, I am stopped when it asks you to select destination and there is nothing in the "select destination" to choose. So does that mean it just can not recognize the hard drive or is the hard drive not working. The only other symptom that might help is the sound when I turn it on. I hear the chime, then the sound of something dropping in a hole or slot, and bouncing. I actually hear it twice before the blinking folder shows.
Is there anything else I can do to be sure I need a new hard drive? I don't have the original set of install cd's for OS 9 and 10 that apparently were packaged with it new. If I buy a new hard drive, will I be able to install the Panther with the firmware version above? Is is possible for the hard drive to go bad if the computer wasn't used much in it's early years, and none for the last four or five years?
I would be most appreciative for any help you can give me. My tech skills are only mediocre, but my patience and persistence are extremely high!Curllie,
The firmware version says, PowerMac 4,1 4.1.7f4,
It should say 4.1.9
But when I try to reinstall the OS X, 10.3, I am stopped when it asks you to select destination and there is nothing in the "select destination" to choose.
It probably has the right firmware because if it was 3.0? or whatever? before 4.1.9 booting into anything 10.2 and after would have killed the video in this iMac.
Everything lights up and appears to be working, but it stops at the blinking folder and mac face.
No that's great because the way these iMacs fail is the display doesn't light.
I even tried to start it upside down! Ho
We call that the inversion technique. It works for iMacs that have solder problems; flybacks, capacitors. I have one that's very green right side up but perfect upside down.
So does that mean it just can not recognize the hard drive or is the hard drive not working.
Right, both. It's not seeing the hard drive or the drive is not working. You could possibily use disk utility to mount and erase the drive.
I hear the chime, then the sound of something dropping in a hole or slot, and bouncing. I actually hear it twice before the blinking folder shows
Wow never heard that but it might be the bad drive.

Imac g4 blue screen need help!!

imac g4 Mac OS X (10.1.x)Mr Totes is quite right, the 10.1.3 disk will not work. Contact the original seller for the disks that came with the machine. Among other things, they can be used to troubleshoot problems with the machine should they arise (chances are they won't but they can be useful, especially in detecting if the RAM usable and other factors). They are not rightfully his when he sells the machine and ONLY licensed for use with that machine. If he lost the disks, he should call AppleCare for replacements.
Once you have identified which iMac you have from my FAQ:
http://www.macmaps.com/macosxnative.html#IDENTIFY
You’ll have the knowledge necessary to call AppleCare and request the disks yourself if you can’t reach the seller. This knowledge is also important later on.
If you can reach him, the number he should contact is one from his own country.
In Canada, the number for AppleCare is
1-800-263-3394
In the U.S. it is:
1-800-APLCARE
Overseas numbers are here:
http://www.apple.com/contact/phone_contacts.html
Make sure you get the correct RAM according to the spec database based on the Mac model identified above:
http://www.info.apple.com/support/applespec.html
and update it to at least 512 MB if not 1 GB. The installation if necessary is best done by an authorized service technician, especially on the iMac G4 models since those RAM slots tend to be quite fragile. Run the hardware test that came with the restore disks. Some come with their own Hardware Test CD that is silver colored, while others come with a volume like the Powerbook, except labeled iMac restore disk. The restore disk instructions for the Powerbook apply to iMacs as well:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=86287
If the hardware test appears OK, you’ll be ready to run the Tiger installation with an erase and install:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301270
And everything then should work.
Good luck, and let us know if you get stuck along the way!
In the future always be careful when buying used and refurbished Macs, by following these instructions in my FAQ:
http://www.macmaps.com/usedrefurbished.html -

Migrating from iMac CD to MBPC2D - Need Help with the FIle Migration
I just ordered a refurb 2.4 MacBook Pro, which will replace my iMac Core Duo as my main machine. The iMac is running Tiger. I've decided that I only am concerned with migrating the following information from the iMac, and want some help on the best way to do this (paths/locations would be helpful too):
-iPhone backups - to ensure my iPhone doesn't get wiped when it syncs. I will want to copy the last backup over to the MBP.
-All iTunes Music and Movies
I will then manually re-install VirusBarrier x4, MS Office, etc. I think this is better than trying to migrate everything over. What do you think?
Edit: I also have a FireWire external hard-drive available to assist with this.
Thanks

My iMac has panic issues, need help.
I've got an iMac 4,1 and it's panicking in a bad way. It's not used for whole lot, just email, web, and printer sharing. The thing won't boot sometimes and I'm forced to leave it on. It only panics on boot. Sometimes when going into Safe Boot, but what perplexes me even more is it happens in Single User Mode. I'm not able to type any commands. Just get a screen showing me the panic info. As of tonight it's happened about 6 times but I'm writing this now on it. For some miracle it decided to behave. I've got two logs it managed to keep after all this.

I think it might be a problem with a core function of apple since I don't see any extensions that stand out as third party ones. I'm currently running Snow Leopard on this aging thing and numerous components have kicked the bucket. Slot drive removed and iSight disconnected. I've run out of ideas, gentleman and ladies. You could have a hardware issue, which could be RAM or something like a failing HD. I'd start by running Apple Hardware Test in Extended Mode 3x back to back. If you get an error then it's time to take it in for repair. If you have no errors appear that doesn't necessarily mean there isn't a hardware issue, unfortunately AHT isn't that great a test but it's what you have. You can also try trouble shooting RAM, this could be:
incorrect RAM
Failed RAM
Unseated RAM
You can download Rember from macupdate.com and see if it finds any RAM errors. -
Help! I have an imac m6498 question(s) need help on the following ASAP thanx
i found an imac m6498 at my grandmas's, its working smooth and great. However, i have these problems:
idont have admin (she doesnt remember the password nor how to remove it)
i dont have the cd repair and backup etc, nor does she
cd drive works well (i need info on how i could reset this so i could use the pc like it was new)
i was thinking of transferring mac os 9 [or leopeord, cuz i saw a forum that its possible] into a usb ext hard drive and installing it there
the main problem is, i dont have admin. It says "you do not have access privileges"
other questions:
is there a way / combo buttons/commands that i could do to reset, change, redeem the password.
thank you, sorry for the woording, i rushed it. heehheJames,
That machine is over 10 years old and is not an Intel based iMac, Apple began using Intel microprocessors in 2006 a full 5 years after your machine was made. It is a PPC (Power PC) based machine which cannot run Leopard. In other words you are in the wrong forum. You can reset the password per Resetting an account password however you need the original Install discs. If you don't have those your last option is to contact Apple and see if you can get a duplicate of the originals, you need these because they are machine specific. I suspect that due to the age of the machine you won't be able to get them. -

Erasing iMac before selling. Need Help.
Hello,
I'm selling my Mac. I'm going to do a clean install and am wondering if someone can look at what I'm going to do, and let me know if this is correct. First going to zero out the HD. Then doing a clean install with my restoration discs. Looking for the quickest and safest way of doing this. Do not have any secure info on here. Secured trash already. My question is that when I start up can the new owner put in her log-in info as administrator?
Looking for help to do this. The new owner is a teacher, and is coming tonight to get it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm getting a new Mac....Yayyou might find this useful: _*Selling Used Macs guide*_.
