24" LED Cinema Display not working on new MacPro with GT120 graphics card

Dear All,
I have recently purchased a new Mac Pro Quad (2.66 GHz, 6mb DDR3 1066 MHz RAM) with a 24" LED Cinema Display. When powering up the computer for the first time, the display was blank. I swapped it out with a 23" Cinema HD Display, and it worked fine, so I thought it might be the LED Cinema Display itself. However, when I tested the LED Cinema Display on my MacBook (Model 5,1; INTEL Core 2 Duo 2.4GHz), it worked like a charm.
Has anybody seen this behaviour? I'm assuming that it's a software issue (since the GT120 DVI adaptor works with the Cinema HD Display, so the mDVI adaptor should be good). [I also rebooted and wiped the PRAM and NVRAM, to no avail.]
Any and all help would be appreciated.
Best,
Drew

Thanks for the reply--I've done that before, for sure.
An odd thing did happen when I reset the PRAM & NVRAM a second time--it worked. Maybe I did it wrong the first time? Anyway, it's working perfectly now. Many thanks.

  • 24" LED Cinema Display not working with Mac Pro

I have a Mac Pro (2 x 2.4 GHz Quad-Core, model identifier MacPro5,1) purchased in late 2010 and a 24" LED Cinema Display. The Mac Pro has three video ports--a full-sized DVI and two mini DVI. When I plug the Cinema Display into either of the mini DVI ports, I cannot get a picture, although the iSight camera works fine. If I plug another monitor into the full-sized DVI port the computer believes that is the only monitor. The Cinema Display works fine with my MacBook, so there is nothing physically wrong with it.
Is it not possible to use this monitor with a Mac Pro without an adapter, even though the Mac Pro does have mini DVI ports?

  • 24in LED Cinema Display not charging MBP Late 2011

    Hello All,
My new Macbook Pro (Late 2011) will not charge when connected to my 24in LED Cinema Display. The power indicator on the menu bar says "Not Charging" and the LED in the magsafe cable is dim. Is this a known limitation of the older Cinema Displays?
    Thanks,
    c.

I had the same problem. I found this

.. which suggestes "wiggling" the magsafe connector a little. It worked for me.

  • 23" Cinema Display not working.  Please help!!!!

I recently purchased a dual 2gHz MacPro Tower and a 23" HD cinema display (both factory refurbished by Apple). Everything worked flawlessly. Then...
I was away from my computer for about a week, during which time both the computer and the monitor were powered down the entire time.
Now my CPU boots fine, and I can hear it responding (when I raise and lower the volume, etc.) but the ACD won't fire up at all. The light on the front isn't blinking or anything, and I'm just wondering if there's anything I can do (I've already reset pram, replugged everything in, restarted several times, etc).
I've also done the ULTRA obvious stuff like brightening my display (which does nothing). I don't know how a less-than-a-month factory refurb that's been off for a week could go kaflooey, but any advice is greatly appreciated.

I'm having a similar problem although it may be USB related. It started with my 2 year old 23" display not waking up when it and the computer (3 month old 15" Mac Book Pro) were asleep overnight. The first two nights this happened I'd restart everything and it'd all be fine. The next couple nights I noticed that if I just unplugged the USB cable from the display into the computer, it would all wake up and function just fine. Today (the 4th day or so, and the day I finally have time to research what the problem might be) the display won't start up at all. There is no indicator light (and never has been in these situations) on the ACD. According to my Display menu bar and my system profiler, my computer definitely recognizes that the monitor is attached (although this was not true the first time the ACD acted up). My mouse also acts as thought the ACD is online... I have now adjusted brightness, and unplugged absolutely everything and replugged it all into a different power source. Still no go... Haven't had a chance to buy a new brick, not really sure that'd work for me... any ideas?
If it were the brick- based on what I've seen on the back of my ACD, it doesn't even look like you can disconnect the cord?
and just a side note... in exploring this problem i noticed that you can choose what the power buttom on the ACD actually controls in the Options menu of the Display System Preferences... is this only for older OS's? because my display preferences has absolutely no Options menu in it...
    Thanks.

  • 20inch cinema display not working via ADC?

Heres the specs on my Mac
    Dual 450mhz Gigabit Ethernet Model
    OS X 10.3.9
    1.38GB SDRAM
ATI 128 video card -----> now nvidia GeForce 4 MX
    The Story:
I have had my G4 since it was new. I bought it with the 17" Studio Display and it has worked fine. and still works fine with both video cards mentioned above. I bought a used 20" Cinema Display. I saw the display working off an ADC connection before I even paid the guy. I brought the monitor home and tried it out. It loaded to the grey apple screen and then went blank. After some research I found out the ATI 128 only supports up to 17" display. So I got a nVidia GeForce4 MX, put it in my machine, fired it up and I get NO DISPLAY AT ALL! I plugged the 17" back in and it works just fine.
Also the guy I purchased it with threw in the apple DVI to ADC adapter, so I plugged the monitor into my Powerbook 1.33mhz and everything works just fine in mirror and dual display modes.
I am stumped. Can anyone help?
    Thanks,
    Jus

    Hey guys,
I don't know if this will help, but here goes. I bought my 20" Cinema Display with the first G5s to come out ~ 9/2003. Lightning came in on my G5 thru the ethernet port and it wouldn't boot up. Frustrated, I unhooked everything and let the setup sit.
About a month ago I bought a G4 off ebay. It had a video card that had a DVI and VGA port--I guess it was an aftermarket upgrade. I was itching to try my 20" Cinema Display on it. So I bought the Apple DVI to ADC adapter ($99 thing). Hooked it up and sweet, screen real estate for days!
Came home a couple of days later, woke the G4 from sleep, and the Cinema Display stayed blank....f*!
I was p**d! I spent nearly $1200 for the thing, plus $99 for the adapter. I tried unplugging and plugging the adapter/display/G4 per the adapter instructions, still blank screen.
Well, today I had 3 different 22" LCDs in my newegg.com shopping cart and was ready to fork out $200-$300 for a new LCD with a DVI connection. I was convinced it was the adapter. So I thought I would try to hook the setup up 1 more time before I pulled out my debit card. I looked at the instructions again, and noticed apple pictured plugging the power cord into the adapter box first, then plugging the power cord coming from the adapter into the power source, then plugging the display into the adapter box, then plug the DVI cord from the adapter into the G4s video card (DVI-I port), then finally plug the USB cord from the adapter into the G4.
I powered up, and low and behold, I worked!!!
I'm typing this post on my 20" Cinema Display right now.
Only two things I can figure is setting the G4 and display to sleep is no good. The display and/or adapter seems not to work well with the sleep function. So I set System Preferences to never sleep for the display and the G4. Second, could there be a sensor where the power cord plugs into the adapter box? That's the only step I did different this time.
Sorry so long winded but if I can help out i want to 'cause I know how frustrated and sick I was about a having a kickin' $1200 display on the blink.
It could be just a coincidence, I'll repost if the Display goes blank again.
    peace,
    Danny

  • Apple HD Cinema Display not working

Hello everyone, I bought a used Apple HD Cinema Display a few months ago and I have been using it with no problems in Leopard with my white macbook (late 2007). I have recently installed XP using bootcamp (the display was not connected at the time of install) and now I am unable to get the display to work in XP. All I get is a black screen. Can anyone help me with this please? Are there any drivers that I may need to install in XP to allow it to work?
    Thanks!

  • 2005 Apple Cinema displays not able to show movies with new iTunes

ITunes is giving me the following error when trying to watch movies on my 2005 Apple Cinema display(s).
The selected movie won’t play on one of your connected displays.
This movie can be played only on displays that support HDCP (High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection).
Try moving the iTunes window to a different display. Make sure the entire window is on the supported display.
I called the Apple support, they said my displays can not support HDCP. Can anyone else comment on this?
Is this true to the best of your knowledge?
Is there anything I can do to make my movies play again? Other than buy new monitors of course.
    Thanks...

    Hi,
Highlight one of the applications that cannot be updated and click File> Get Info. Make sure you are signing-in to the iTunes Store with that Account Name shown in the Get Info window.
Then sign-in to the iTunes store and verify the account information as described here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1918
If the issue persists, try to reconfigure the security software or remove the SC Info folder as others have in this related discussion: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1939036

  • LCD 20" Cinema Display Not Working on MBP

    Hi people!
Somehow, the Apple Cinema Display (LCD) of 20" isn't working when I plug it to the MBP (late 2011). The monitor remains black after pluging it. Sometimes is detected by the MBP, and sometimes it isn't. Quite random thing. Same hapens when I'm in Windows, through Bootcamp. The weird thing is that I've never had this problem before and it was like being each time more often that the monitor isn't detected. Nowadays, it seems that it won't work. However, the minidisplay port is okay, as well, the monitor.
I use the monitor for work, so this is delaying my work each time more. Please, I need a solution for this since my physical existence depends on this.
    Thanks,
    Ø3

    UPDATE:
When I plug the external monitor into the MBP, the MBP automatically switches to the discrete graphic card, but the external monitor keeps black and also, the mouse pointer doesn't move to the second monitor, like if it wasn't really detected, even if the MBP automatically switches to the discrete graphic card.
Please, I need help with this.
    Thanks,
    Ø3

  • Apple Cinema Display not working in Win XP

  • Fast user switching animation not working on new iMac with 10.9.1

I have a late 2013 iMac with the GeForce GTX 780M, pre-installed with 10.9 and then immediately updated to 10.9.1 out of the box.
I imported my adminstrator account from an older iMac with Mountain Lion, using Migration Assistant. No problems experienced there whatsoever. I then separately imported a second user account from the same Mountain Lion install. Both accounts are functioning normally.
However, when I switch between these accounts, the fast user switching animation (rotating cube) does not occur - it just instantly switches screens, without even a fade in/out effect.
I made sure the display settings on each account are identical down to the last detail, even the same color sync profiles. I also created a fresh 'test' user account with default Mavericks settings, yet switching to that from either of the imported accounts does not have the animation either.
Any suggestions on how to trouble-shoot this? I have 'Googled' it, but all the refrences are from earlier version of OS X from 2003-2009 and mention things like not having enough graphical processing power - obviously not an issue here.

I tried (on both user accounts):
    1. Flushing all the caches using Onyx
    2. Deleting the 'com.apple.desktop.plist' files.
    3. Switching each user account to non-standard resolutions and back again.
The lack of the rotating cube effect is not the worst of it, as about 50% of the time I switch accounts I get an 'empty' desktop in the account I have just switched to, and I can only get the desktop icons to appear again by switching back and forth a few times. Extremely frustrating.
I am starting to think this is yet another bug in Mavericks or a problem with the graphic drivers for the new GTX 775 / 780 cards.

  • Wacom Intuos Tablet and Pen not working on new iMac with OSX 10.9.4

Hi there, I've been using an A3 Wacom Intuos tablet and pen for many years now on a 2006 iMac for my illustration work, but I cannot get them to appear or work on my new iMac with OSX 10.9.4.  I think they are the original Wacom Intuos tablet and pen.  Does anyone know if they are just out of date now and aren't supported on the new OSX 10.9.4?  Any advice would be greatly appreciated as I need to work and it's frustrating!
    Many thanks,
    Steve

    Barbara B.
I have done as you suggested; I uninstalled PSE 11 and set my wife's account up as admin and reinstalled from there. Still have the same problem with my wife's account, but when I went to mine it is working correctly. Any ideas on why that would be? I'm sure it should work on both accounts. I have 2 accounts on my Mac Mini running OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard and it works on both.
Thanks for your help; at least it's working on my account so that's a great improvement.

  • Photoshop CS3 allows me to enable Open GL but CS4 does not Brand new MacPro with ATI 4870 card

    Hi,
I just bought a brand new 8 core Mac Pro and have both the ATI 4870 graphics card and the Nvidia GT 120 card. Pshop CS3 allows me to "enable openGL" in the prefs and utiizes it when doing 3d stuff... however, CS4 has it dimmed in the prefs, thereby not allowing me to check it (it is dimmed and unchecked I should say) and when I do 3d stuff a dialog box saying
"Your video card does not meet the requirements for hardware-accelerated 3D rendering. All 3D will be rendered with software only."
    any thoughts?
    thanks in advance.

yeah, short term test deems keeping both cards in.
So, here are the results: Notes: I have 2 monitors, an Apple 30" and Apple 23". The 30" can only be used in the dual link dvi port and NOT the Mini Display port. Second: The ATI 4870 seems to have an issue with the Mini Display port, it does not work, alone or in tandem with the dual link dvi port being used. Apple is replacing the card (heretofore, I had no cause to use the Mini Display port on the 4870 at all) Third: Only Photoshop CS4 extended was used to see if the card was detected and if it had enabled Open GL
ATI 4870 - dual link used, Mini Display NOT used: Photoshop sees the card and enables Open GL
ATI 4870 - dual link used, MIni Display used: didn't test because Mini Display port did not work.
ATI 4870 - dual link NOT used, Mini Display used: didn't test because Mini Display port did not work
Nvidia GT120 - dual link used, Mini Display NOT used: Photoshop sees the card and enables Open GL
Nvidia GT120 - dual link used, Mini Display used: Photoshop does not see the card and thus Open GL is NOT enabled.
Nvidia GT120 - dual link NOT used, Mini Display used: Photoshop does see the card and Open GL is enabled
ATI 4870 Dual link used,  Nvidia GT120 Mini Display used: Photoshop does not see a card and Open GL is NOT enabled.
ATI 4870 Mini Display used, Nvidia GT120 dual link used: did not test because ATI Mini Display port did not work

  • DVI cable not working, but VGA one will. Graphics card problem?

Ok so. I have a Mac Pro with ATi 1900XT card. Was using a Samsung LCD for a while, via a DVI-VGA adapter. Works fine. Two days ago, I attached another monitor, a DGM, to the second DVI port using a DVI lead; the one supplied with the monitor. Everything worked fine.
Then today, I tried the same thing, but the second monitor only works at one particular resolution; 1280x800 or something. And the picture is a bit crappy. So, I tried with only the DGM monitor plugged in the first DVI port. Apple symbol at start up, and then just a black screen.
Swapped over to a VGA lead, and everything works perfectly again.
So, is the problem with the cable, the monitor, or the graphics card?
Maybe the cheapo cable is just not very good? But why it works only at one resolution? Weird. And it did flicker on at a couple of other resolutions, but went off again. And even at the one resolution it worked at, there was a secondary 'mirror' image of part of the screen, at one side of the screen.
Very strange, considering it worked perfectly before.
Oh, and I upgraded the Mac Pro's firmware yesterday. Could this have anything to do with things?
    Weird...

    itexpress wrote:
Forgot to add, we are running XP. We tried a different monitor and now at least we can get one monitor working via the display port. But when we try two monitors at the same time, the 2nd monitor on display port is not detected. How do we disable built in LCD on the X201 ? Lenovo support says its a BIOS setting ? That doesnt sound right  to me...
Are you trying to use a DVI Splitter? I do not think that a DVI Splitter would work with a Single Link Displayport TO DVI Adapter. I do not think a Dual Link Displayport To DVI Adapter would work with a DVI Splitter.
I think that you might need something link this.
    http://us.startech.com/product/SP123DP2DVI-Triple-Head-DisplayPort-to-DVI-Multi-Monitor-Adapter
Not sure, if the x201can handle 3 monitors in this fashion. StarTech.com says the GPU determines the support according to the youtube video.
It is pretty expensive, and it would be nice to know the limit.

  • Adjustment brush not working on new Mac with Snow Leopard

Just purchased a new computer a couple of weeks ago. Not sure if something is incompatible or something else. I'm can't remember if the brush ever worked on the new machine. Also updated to Snow leopard 16.2 during this period.
I see the adjustment brush and can change it's size and feathering, flow and density are set at 100%, masking is off, it set down control points, but that's it. It makes no visible changes to the image in any mode. If I put exposure at 4 stops and place it on a mid-tone there is no change to the image, either in Lightroom or upon export.
I've run permissions checks, trashed the preferences and repaired the drive with Diskwarrior all to no avail.
Lightroom 2.5, Power Mac 2.66 Ghz Quad Core Intel Xeon, 6 GB of factory installed memory, Snow Leopard 16.2
Should I try a fresh install of Lightroom??

    Sorry,
My post above should have read Mac Pro. I recently switched and keep getting the names mixed up. Doesn't help that they look the same.
