24 LED Display + New MacBookPro Clamshell Issues

I've recently purchased a new MacBookPro 15" and a 24" LED Display. I'm using the older style bluetooth keyboard (white) and mighty mouse on bluetooth.
When I close the lid on the MacBookPro (after the display appears on the LED display), it goes to sleep. No matter what keyboard keys I press, or click the mouse - it won't come out of sleep until I lift the lid.
I've made sure that the box 'allow bluetooth devices to wake system' is ticked. Any ideas anyone?

If you have your display icon on your menu bar go to that and if you do not have it showing there go to system preferences. Either will do. Simply click on detect displays. presto!

  • LED Display - New 27 inch MiniDisplayPort to DVI

    Hi all!
I know I may be a little foreseeing, but will the new LED 27 inch Display work with a single link adaptor DVI.
I have a Radeon 4870 HD gfx and I want to use this new display with my current 22 inch display that will use one of the two DVI ports on the card.

I have a 27 inch Apple Cinema Display and I am using an Altona DP400 adapter to connect it to my 2008 Mac Pro. The Mac Pro has a Nvidia 8800 GT graphics card installed and the ACD is acting as a second monitor.
I can confirm this solution is defective. The issues are:
    1) There is no brightness control for the second monitor.
    2) The second monitor does not power back on if power is interrupted. For instance, if I press the reset button on the Altona adapter, the monitor will not come back to life.
    3) Several key combinations cause the monitor to switch into mirrored mode. I am not sure what they are (because I have trouble repeating them and type fast), but they are standard key combinations in the Eclipse IDE.
Trying to get this working, I have contacted Apple several times. Originally, they told me to purchase a mini-dvi to DVI adapter for the monitor, which did not work (obviously) because the monitor has a DisplayPort adapter. Apple failed to recognize this on the support call or when I visited an Apple store and explained what I was trying to do. The adapter they sold me cost $40 and had the wrong ports.
When I called Apple a second time, they turned me onto the Altona adapter. I ordered it, hooked it up, and have spent the better part of a day trying to get it to work. I attempted to adjust the monitor by resetting the Altona device, which has an onboard button for resetting. This turned the ACD off and there was no way to restart it without resetting the computer. I tried unplugging the ACD from the adapter, unplugging the adapter from the Mac, unplugging the USB from the Mac, it simply stayed off.
Given these issues, I would not recommend this monitor to anyone. I have replaced it with an older Westinghouse monitor as a secondary display for the Mac. The Westinghouse monitor has more defects, certainly, but it only cost $230 compared to the $1328 I have spent on the ACD solution.

  • I lecture for a living. My old G4 connected to LCD projector worked great.  My new MacBookPro connected to LCD projector - the displayed images look as if I used "pastel colors" instead of bright colors.  Help !

I lecture for a living. My old G4 connected to LCD projector worked great; image displayed on computer monitor is same as that projected by LCD. However my new MacBookPro connected to the LCD projector displays washed out images, as if I designed my Keynote lecture using pastel colors. Also my black & white x-ray images are blue & white. Help !

Thank you for your quick response to my question.  The Apple Genius Bar tried adjusting the color settings in my MacBookPro, as stated in the document you attached.  It did not help ... my Keynote lectures are still pastel, and my x-rays are blue & white. I should have stated this in my original query for help.
    Again, many thanks for responding.
Did the Apple Genius explain to you why it did not work or even if it's possible?

  • Photobooth and new 24 inch LED Display

I have just received my new display today and it is breathtaking.
I am using it with a new macbook pro. Sound has connected ok. ichat defaults once set to the display isight. BUT, photobooth will just not go to the display isight.
    Any ideas guys?

Not sure, but it only seems to work (photo booth) with the LED Display iSight when you have the MBP lid closed. If the lid is open, it only uses the MBP's iSight.

  • New Mac Mini & Dual 24" LED Displays - Possible ?

I would like to run 2 x 24" Apple LED Cinema displays from a new Mac Mini. Can this be done without any loss of resolution or speed ?

    Thanks woodmeister50 that's very useful.
I should clarify its the 2.5GHz Mini I'm considering with the i7 upgrade option. I already have a 24" LED Cinema display and was thinking of getting another (used) 24" LED display to match it. I'd buy the new Thunderbolt displays however 2 x 27" takes up a lot of desk space !! The alternative would to acquire 2 x HP ZR24 displays and use those instead ?

  • New MacBook Pro with dual Apple 24 LED Display's?

I am about to buy a new MacBook to replace my iMac (which I have an added 22in monitor for dual displays). I really like the new Apple 24 LED Display (except for the price!) and wanted to know if I can have dual Apple 24 LED Display's running off a MacBook Pro.
If not will it work using the dual-link DVI adapter with a splitter? Or if I want to run dual monitors should I look elsewere (none Apple)?
Any helps would be awesome! My kids will love getting my iMac permanently...LOL.

Given that the stumbling block to more flexible power options is the infamous patent-protected MagSafe connector
The funny thing is, I've seen loads of cheap "replacement" MagSafe adapters on eBay, Amazon and in local shops. On eBay, they cost (new) about $26, on Amazon I've seen them as cheap as $17!!, against the $80 that Apple charges. And apparently, it's not worth it to pursue the matter, it's been going on for more than a year now.
made of pure unobtanium and guarded by packs of rabid lawyers, someone is shooting themselves in the foot by making the power bricks so frail that the secondary damaged goods recovery market grows without bounds...
I really dig that unobtainium reference :-)
What I've found is that the bricks aren't so frail but the DC cord is! Apparently that's difficult to make resilient, with the characteristics that Apple wanted them to have. Out of every ten broken MagSafe adapters I've seen, only two actually have failed electronics, five have frayed DC wiring and three have a broken MagSafe connector.

  • Using New Apple 27" LED Display with old MacBook Pro (Late 2006) 15"

    I've got a MacBook Pro (Model # A1211) Core2Duo 15" 2.16 GHz with only 128 MB of VRAM and a built-in DVI port (I think it is dual-link DVI)
My question is, will the new 27" LED Display work with this machine at its best resolution? If so, what adapter would I need to get it to work?
    Thanks!

I don't think the Kanex adapter is the best one to purchase. The information on their website says it will only drive the 27" at 1280 x 720. Although I have not purchased one yet, the ATLONA website http://www.atlona.com/Atlona-Dual-Link-DVI-to-Mini-DisplayPort-Converter-USB-Pow ered.html, claims their Atlona AT-DP400 converter will drive the 27" at its highest resolution of 2560 x 1440. I have read confirmation from some users that this is the case for the DP400.

  • I have 2 Apple Cinema LED Displays (no Thunderbolt) and a new Macbook Air (with Thunderbolt).  Is there a way to connect both of these monitor to my Macbook Air?

I'm trying to use 2 older Apple Cinema LED Displays in a Dual Monitor configuration with my Macbook Air.   It is a new macbook air and supports Thunderbolt.

Look for minidisplay connectors/adapters that  that fit the inputs on the display, such as this example:

  • New MacBookPro 13" (early 2011) not properly displaying 1920x1200 on an external display

    Hi,
A week ago I got a new MacBookPro 13". Early 2011 model, the ones that now come with an Intel HD Graphics 3000 video card. I am connecting it to a Sun 24.1" LCD Monitor v4 (http://www.oracle.com/us/products/servers-storage/desktop-workstations/030743.ht m) through a Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter. Supposedly the Sun monitor is running at 1920x1200 @ 60hz (with the MacBookPro at its original resolution of 1280x800).
The problem is that the image on the Sun monitor is not using the whole screen. The MacOs is 10.6.7 and I have downloaded all updates as of today (June 13 2011). I am *not* mirroring displays, of course.
Now, for the record, I still have my old MacBook 13", which the new one was supposed to replace and this problem is *not* present. 1920x1200 on the external Sun display uses all the screen. That laptop has an NVIDIA GeForce 9400M video card. Its MacOS is also 10.6.7, with all software updates as of today.
My current suspicion is the new MBP is somehow trying to force the aspect ratio of the external display to be that one of HD, but it is only a suspicion. Any help with this please? Is something known? Is it a feature or a defect of my laptop and I should try to get another one? If it is a feature, does it mean that I will not be able to fully use any of the three 24.1" Sun monitors that I have? (one at home, one on each of my two offices?)
    Thanks...
    Manuel

For some reason, using a dvi adapter instead of a vga one works fine.

  • MBP & New Samsung LED display resolution questions

    Hi all -
Just got a new Samsung XL2370 LED display. I've got it hooked up to my new MBP: minidisplay to HDMI. I've got the Samsung at it's highest resolution: 1600x900. The MBP has the hi-res display at 1680x1050. The picture on the Samsung is not as sharp as the MBP, is that because of the unequalness of the resolutions? Would using a minidisplay to DVI look any different? I was thinking not since both HDMI and DVI are digital signals, but I thought I'd ask. The only monitor that seems to look identical to the MBP resolution is Apple's cinema displays, but I didn't want to spend that much on the external monitor.
    Thanks in advance!

The problem is in your choice of using the HDMI connection. Use a VGA connection and you will be able to get the monitor's full resolution. Caution: I've had two cheap VGA adapters go out, but the Apple one (mini-display to VGA) does fine. I use a Samsung 2333HD monitor with my MBP (mid-2010). If I connect to the monitor with an HDMI connection (using a mini-display to HDMI adapter), the highest res on the monitor is 1600 x 900 instead of the monitor's full 1920 x 1080 I get with a VGA connection. By the way, the "Moshi" adapter (mini-display to HDMI) Apple sells does not solve the resolution problem--with it the monitor still gives only 1600 x 900, though it does carry audio. I think the problem is on the Apple side, since Apple has SnycMaster (which is for Samsung) settings in its Display prefs, but in the settings pane's resolution choices the list just tops out at 1600 x 900 when the connection is HDMI.

  • How well does the new Apple 24" LED Display work?

    Hey guys
Im thinking of purchasing a 24" LED Display from Apple, just because I need a bigger screen to work on, as I edit photos, and film and I've been looking into one for awhile. Buck for buck, is this monitor a good companion to the unibody MacBook pros with the mini display port? Of course, its looks all glitz and glamour on the mac site but has anyone worked with these things hands on? What are the pros and cons?

The display is very easy to use; considering you'll probable be plugging in the display multiple times per day this is really important.
The built in display is LED lit (cool light) sense the 24" is also LED lit (cool light), there is a greater consistency in color between the two displays.
Traditional LCD displays have a warmer glow due to using a fluorescent tube. Trying to go between LED and and fluorescent tube displays could drive you insane. especially if your using both displays at the same time for photography, where color can be very important.

  • RX V373 - LED Display Issue

    Hi,
I bought the Yahama RX V373. I had it shipped to the Philippines.
Upon turning it on, it seems that the LED display panel has some problems. it lights up everything. i cant understand what information is being displayed since eveyhting is lit.
the unit i think works fine since when i connected it to my PS3 then to my LCD TV, i can use the remote to navigate the basic settings and the like. however, whatever i chose using the remote and TV is not appearing on the AVR's LED panel.
is there a problem with my unit?
    Regards,
    Edison

My first guess would be that its getting to many volts. The Philippines have a voltage rating of 220V. Look to see if there is a 110/240 voltage switch on the back of the receiver and switch it to 240. Make sure the power is off and its unplugged when you switch it.Inevitably you will end up burning up the receiver if it's getting to many volts.

  • 27" LED display drawing too much USB power?

I'm having the infamous "USB device is drawing too much power" issue, but in my case it's a little different. Whenever I plugin the USB cord from my 27" LED display to the MacBook, it results in the above error (too much power, USB is disabled).
    I've narrowed down the following:
    1. Happens on two different MacBook Pros.
    2. Happens when LED display is powered from different outlets.
    3. It seems 2 of the 3 USB ports on the back of the display are not working.
This started happening after I moved about a month ago and reconnected everything, including a USB Hub I was using previously. I also have a SD card reader, all of which was plugged in and ready to go. When I powered up everything, the lights on the Card Reader and USB were actually pulsing, which didn't look right so I immediately powered everything down. Checked all connections and tried again. Same thing happened, so I unplugged the card reader and USB hub.
At this point, I had my keyboard plugged into the monitor which is how it was prior (before my move). I powered up everything again and while waiting for the keyboard to come on (the keys are illuminated), I noticed it was actually VERY hot - the underside of the keyboard. So I unplugged it and had a little bit of a sonofa***** moment. The keyboard seemed fried. It wouldn't come on for anything, so I went and bought a new one.
Soon as I get home, I plugged the new keyboard directly into the laptop and ignored the external LED display. Everything seemed to work fine, so I tried plugging the external monitor in, but soon as I connected the USB cord... this error pops up every single time.
Is this a USB cord issue (on the LED display) or what?  I'm at a loss of what could have happened, since when I moved everything was transported very carefully. The LED display was even in it's original retail box, so nothing was damaged in the move, USB cord included.
Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated. I know ultimately I may need to bring it in for repair (still within warranty as I purchased the display in May 2011)... but I'm trying this first incase anyone has any ideas that could help me avoid that hassle.

Smc reset sometimes addresses some power issues.
It is possible that when that first keyboard failed when plugged into the back of the display it somehow damaged the display usb ports.
If you are under warrantee, take it to apple and let them deal with it.
