240fps to play as 120fps

So Im curious about the math to figure out how to get footage shot at 240fps to playback as if it was shot at 120fps or 90fps etc..
I have footage shot at 240fps and a 23.976 timeline I want to tell Premiere to interpret the footage to play it as if it were originally shot at 120fps but I am getting lost in the math.
I really just want to know how to do the math for this.
Thanks

Interesting idea. I hadn't thought of that. I'll have to play with that. Of course, I'll lose any transitions of effects.
I had another idea too...one thing I did notice, is that in the Inspector, under document, there is a checkbox for "Restart show if Idle for XX". So I thought what if I have it set to loop, and to start as soon as the document is launched, then if anyone needed to use the iMac, they could just hit escape, do what they needed to, and that the show would resume after that XX amount of idle time. But, unless I'm not understanding it correctly, it doesnt seem to be restarting the show even when that box is checked? If it would do that...that could be the trick. Almost as good as having it as a screensaver, except that the file would need to be launched.?? Thoughts?

  • Real-Time 120fps web video now possible! (for 120Hz monitor users)

    Hello,
With the emergence of "120fps" cameras (Galaxy S4, GoPro Hero 3, Casio EX-FC200S, and the upcoming iPhone 5S), Blur Busters did some research on a distribution medium for playing back 120fps videos in real-time.  We have discovered some good news.
    (1) Presently, 120Hz monitors are quite popular among high-end video game players.  There are more than a dozen models avaialble:
    http://www.blurbusters.com/faq/120hz-monitors/
One of the more popular models is the VG248QE, which as over 60 reviews on Amazon (4.5 out of 5 stars).
    (2) The web is now a potential 120fps video distribution medium; and some computer users use 120Hz computer monitors now.  There is now a way to speed up 120fps slow-motion to 120fps real-time, and it was recently discovered that all the popular web browsers support 120fps@120Hz (Internet Explorer, Chrome, and the new FireFox 25+ Beta) using the <VIDEO> element are now capable of playing back at 120fps in real time on a 120Hz computer monitor:
    http://www.blurbusters.com/faq/real-time-120fps-video
In general, any machine capable of playing back 1080p@60fps, is easily capable of playing back 720p@120fps.  Both are pretty similiar bitrates.  Also, some websites (www.testufo.com using Chrome browser) also shows that it's now possible in some web browsers to automatically detect the refresh rate of a web visitor, so you can present 120fps videos automatically only to 120Hz visitors.
I want to make sure that Adobe Premiere Pro is capable of converting 120fps slow-mo into 120fps real-time, as a natively-encoded 120fps H.264 video file?
    Thanks,
    Mark Rejhon

    Adobe employees:
I need an answer to this question as I'm getting more than one inquiry (I run Blur Busters) and I want to help people be able to create 120fps videos.
Do I recommend continuing using Adobe, or do I refer them to a competitor's product if it's the only way to output 120fps????
Even plain free tools such as ffmpeg can do 120fps!
Some people are starting to think abot 120fps editing (e.g. http://www.hfrmovies.com/tag/120-fps/ ...) so this is an emerging area that Adobe also needs to pay attention to.
The 120fps distribution medium is already here today, and it's called "web browsers running on a 120Hz computer monitor".

  • FCPX does not play 120fps GoPro video

What should I do as my FCPX is not playing 120fps GoPro 3+ videos. Quicktime plays them well and shows that they are 120fps. Final cut does not play them at all. They just appear as still images. I tried to import original videos form camera and also as "optimized videos". No difference...
    Thanks in advance!

There is a workaround to copy the media to Finder, and then import those files into FCPX.  Here’s a tutorial: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EP3y9-MqHko

  • Playing GoPro Video 120fps - defaults in slow motion

Is there a way to change the speed of play in Photos?  My GoPro videos that I took at 120fps are played in slow motion by default and I can't figure out how to change it to play at normal speed.  Ideas?

With the amount of information you've provided it's impossible to offer a solution.  We can't see your computer so we need to know the details of your problem and setup, i.e.:
is this when you play the video in iPhoto? Yes
what version of iPhoto are you using? The latest
what system version are you running? The latest
where is the video from? Camera
does it play correctly if played outside of iPhoto with Quicktime Player? No
what fixes have you tried? Running Quicktime which shows Slo-mo; unchecking it and then saving it
where is your library located? On my startup drive in my docs
did you apply any updates or upgrades just prior to the problem occurring? No
are you running a "managed" or "referenced" library? Don't know; do not have this screen in iPhoto
what type of Mac? Mac Pro
how much free space on your boot drive? 200 GB

  • 120FPS video play and share

So, I got my shiny 5S, I made a few videos in HFR, and would like to upoload them to youtube/vimeo OR just play them on my mac.
I got an i7 17'MBP, so the performance wont be a problem, but, whenever i transfer my video with image capture, quick time just plays it at HFR and dont slow down where it supposed to. Even tried it in FCPX, same problem. I have 10.0.9 of FCPX and 10.8.5 of OSX.
What could be the problem? The video plays fine on the 5S.
Oh, and FCPX just makes my CPU go up to 120-150%, but the video is even get laggy in the preview window...

  • 720P 120FPS Sequence Preset

    Hey
I'm running Premiere Pro CS6 v6, Installed latest updates, Windows 7 64bit, My source footage is H.264 in a .MP4 format. I'm using a Go Pro Hero 3 Black edition at 720P, 120FPS.
Is it possible to create a sequence preset for the Go Pro Hero 3 at 720P 120FPS and/or for all the other Resolutions and FPS?
    Kind Regards
    Toby

if you interprat footage to 24fps then the whole clip is changed to 24fps. thats fine if you want to slow down the whole clip. But what if you do not.
as far as my comment "Not sure why people will always assume they know best instead of just answering the question"
It was becuase it seemed like the topic was getting off on a tagent of "Why would you want to do that", and "Most hardware will not support it" etc etc instead of just answering the question.
yes the only reason even I can think of using 120 or 240 its to for slow-mo but that does not mean you may want to slow down the whole clip, you may just not want to have to stop recording everytime and through your camra in 30fps for all your shots you dont want to slow down, if your wearing a gopro and think you may want to slow down a shot as you go off a jump or something, your not going to want to take it off to change the settings while your out there catching a wave, or skiing down a hill. You will record it at 120 and slow down the parts you want and keep the others normal.
But as the Adobe Staff parson stated....
Premiere Pro's renderer is framerate agnostic, don't let the lack of sequence presets stop you. Dragging a 120fps clip to the new sequence icon and internally it will be treated as 120fps.
Which is 100% correct by the way.
    this statemnet
No it doesn't - as I said it will create a 59.94 sequence and the clip will play back at half-speed.
    Is not correct.. AT ALL
If you create a sequence from a clip at 120 or 240fps it WILL create a sequence at that frame rate.
you can the edit your footage as normal, you can the slow down the parts you want and everything is there.
My point is was it seems a lot of people got of on a tangent of saying. "What would you ever want to do that for" instead of just saying how to do it.
and how to do it is "Create a sequence from the clip"
As the Adobe Staff person stated.
    well he said
Premiere Pro's renderer is framerate agnostic, don't let the lack of sequence presets stop you. Dragging a 120fps clip to the new sequence icon and internally it will be treated as 120fps.
but thats the same as right clicking on the clip in the project and selecting "create squence from clip"
Sorry If i came across critcal it was not my intention I was just making an observation.
And regard to putting a 240 into a 24, i was referring to doing that only after you had finished slowing down any of the parts you wanted to.
If you had a master squence at 24fps or 30 or whatever, that contained what would be the final version of all your clips put together, justt dragging a 240 fps to it would drop frames, but you had alreaded edited your footage on the 240fps sequence and you had already doubled, trippled or whatever any of the frames where you changed the duration of the clip so it will look fine when you move it to a 24fps seq after any time changes were done in the 240fps sequence.

  • Is the new macbook air fast enough to play 100 fps gopro video fluidly?

    Hello,
I'm interested in the new macbook air 13. I often use a gopro hero 3 black edition, filming with 100 fps in 960p for slow motion. Is the new macbook air able to play these video fluidly by just pressing the space button in the finder menu. I know that it does play the video fluidly when opening quiktime. If it doesn't work with the space button, would a Intel Core i 7 help. Thanks for your help

After doing some research I found that when I play my video files they are capped at 24FPS on any PC or Mac.  Which has further confused me.
So if someone could educate me on if it is possible to have my macbook(been using vlc player) draw more frames out out of a video file or of some other artificial method to get the most out of this TV.
It could very well be possible that I will absolutely have to watch my movies using the physical disc and the appropriate blu-ray player to draw 240FPS but again, if someone could educate me on this I would be grateful.  I want to know for sure if it can or can't be done before making that purchase.
    Thanks!

  • IPhone 6 240fps slow-motion import

    Hey everyone,
I understand when I import the clip into Final Cut Pro I choose 30fps, and then click on the clip and set it to automatic speed. Then I will get my 240fps slow-motion.
    2 issues though.
I would like to have the same effect as Quicktime Player opens the file for me. Starts in normal speed and then transfers to the slow-motion. I could probably build this with speed ramp, but is there an easier way to just have it like that already?
Second issue, when I set it to automatic speed, I do not get the sound from it. In final cut pro x it sounds really weird then, just very high sounds (rain), but in Quicktime Player and on my iPhone I really hear the deep sound when the raindrop hits the ground. Any idea how to transfer that sound or how to get it?
Probably needs an upcoming update FCPX?
Edit: Now when I would like to export in QTP to YouTube I do not get the slow-motion either, it's just like that: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xkk1DfTcgn0

There is a misconception about the "slow motion videos" in iPhone.
In fact, they *really* are videos recorded with a high frame rate (up to 240fps in iPhone 6).
They are *not* in slow motion per se - even though the iPhone software may play them as such.
In fact, I'll go so far as to say that there is no such thing as slow motion videos. There are videos played in slow motion.
What happens when, say, you drop your 240fps video in a 24fps timeline, is that it plays at normal speed. This is as it should be!
The big deal is that, since your clip has all those extra frames in it, you can use FCP X to slow it down (up to 1/10 the original speed in my example) and it will use all the real frames the camera captured. Plus, you can use all the retiming features in FCP X to obtain perfectly smooth slow motion.
By means of comparison, if you slow down a video recorded at the same frame rate as the project it is in, FCP X has to make up extra frames that did not exist. Even though FCP X has some great algorithms for this (like "Optical Flow"), it can't match real captured frames.

  • Can Premiere output at 2x the play duration of a clip ?

    Premiere Pro CS3
Is it possible to bring an avi into Premiere and output it at half the duration ?
Where is that procedure done ?
In other words If I bring in a 10 second avi clip, can I save it as an avi that will play for 5 secs ?
I have a 120fps flash swf file of length 600 frames that refuses to play at 5 secs duration outside of Flash CS5, I made it into a wmv file and its still 10secs.
Perhaps if I convert the swf to avi, I can use Premiere to keep the quality, and output it at 5 secs duration ?
I then need to convert it to something like a wmv somewhere.
    Envirographics

Tom is right, if you are referring to extending the clip to fit your requirements. If you want to actually have the clip start and end at the same time in your footage, but span a longer length, you MUST change the speed. No other way to do it.

  • XAVC 120fps playback is broken in 7.2

We just tried to continue editing some commercials  after updating to 7.2 that include 120fps S&Q footage shot on the Sony F5, and none of the clips will now work.   All we get is a freeze frame of the clip which won't play in the source viewer or timeline.  Any attempt to render a few seconds, either hangs Premiere or calculates rendering at 20 minutes + per clip.    This issue is being reported over on the Sony US pro forum.
Because 7.2 has broken this feature somehow, I need to roll back to 7.0.  Is there any way to go back to 7.0 without uninstalling CC and starting again?   That would be a real pain.   For us it's even a greater pain as we have commercials with 120fps going out to broadcasters this weekend that can't be completed.  I know the Adobe mods visit here and hope this is the quickest way to get a response.

    Hi Peter.
Please first try to install the latest update 7.2.1 from the below link and check whether the issue gets fixed. If the issue persists then you can roll back to Previous version.

  • Export 240fps video

Perhaps I am missing something obvious, but how can I get the video that was recorded at 240fps on my iPhone 6 to my computer at 240fps.  I.E I do not want slow motion, I want to play it at 240fps (so I can bring it in to my app and control the speed there).  No matter what I do, I get a file that has the points as to where the slow motion starts and end.  I just want a full frame rate video.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

ddon't know if you found an answer to this, but have you tried eliminating the slo mo segment by giving it no time and then exporting?

  • Does FCPX manage 120fps? I saw only till 60. Tks

Hi. I start to make movies with FCPX et I want to make slowmotion. I'll get the GoPro HD3 and i want to use the 120fps. But Can FCPX manage it? I saw it could only manage 60? Tks for your answer.

I want a 120 fps timeline to make 120 fps videos.
While the 120 and 240 hz tv's out there only do interpolation and only accept 60 hz hdmi input, a few 120 hz computer monitors came out in 2012 that accept 120 hz.
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824236293
I want to have videos play at 120 hz, not just only utilize it for comptuter game rendering.  Part what makes the new gopro hero3 black so awesome is 720p120.  I want to record in this format, play it back realtime @ 120 hz for super smooth action.  I do not want to edit it down to slow mo.  This is very difficult, and quicktime player 7 pro seems to be the best tool to crop and splice (I haven't tried playing any 120 fps native gopro files on any 120 hz monitors, don't know if that works with any current players or not), with "add to selection and scale" being very useful.
Saying  the eye/brain can't tell above 60 is laughable, take away motion blur (computer games or timelapse) and it's obvious.  Playing quake on an old crt I could easily tell 60, 85, and 120 hz apart.  move your mouse quick across your screen.  if you had enough hz, it wouldn't be a jumpy trail where you see 6 different pointers spaced inches apart, it would be blurred.  Motion blur is why movies get by with 24, but if something moves, and you track it with your eye, it's still blurry.  I hate motion blur and don't want it in my timelapse projects.
I have made a few timelapses of driving where I speed up footage 10x, each utility pole or tree passing by jumps 3 feet between frames at the edges when it passes by (6 fps sped up to 60 fps).  same for cars going other direction.  watching at 60 fps you can see this jumpy ghosty effect easily (persistance of vision).  to make it go away you either sacrafice image quality and don't give the eye the opportnity to track objects and lose freeze frame detail by using motion blur, or you add more frames.  120 hz would have the poles moving 1.5 feet per frame (still not overlaping itself in frames), and only when you get to 240 hz would the pole move not jump across the screen.  I would like playback the same 10x speed driving timelapse on 60 hz, 120 hz, 240 hz, and 480 hz monitors to compare and see if the upper limits for my eyes are satisfied by any of those, maybe in a few years.  From how 30 and 60 fps look now, I can almost guarantee I could tell 120 and 240 hz apart.  Driving timelapse is maybe one of the rare sources that makes this stand out so much, but it's one that annoys me.
Maybe you can't tell the difference with stuff you watch, but that's the same argument that people are saying 2k hd is enough and 4k and aboveis a waste, but 4k and 5k are options in FCP, so I think 120 and even 240 fps timelines should be too.  500 fps and 16k is my guess for what is enough for human vision limits
No driving ones online yet, but here's one of mine walking the golden gate bridge at 20x.  you can see the issues with the cars well on youtubes weak 30 fps.  I also wish the auto zoom for stabilization could be turned off in FCPX to make the frame move like in this video .  web compession is rough on these timelapses too, make sure to view at 720p.

  • Is 120fps movie going to be twice as slow away from Flash ?

    Flash CS5,
    Powerpoint 2007
Why would 120fps swf be running twice as slow as its design speed in conversion to wmv, as well as when run in powerpoint ?
This seems like a fundamental issue now and not just Msoft software issues, though WindowsMovieFile is Msoft, having said that !
Perhaps it is Msoft at fault ?
I could try converting to avi.
Any suggestions what video format to initially convert to to retain 5 sec play time ?
I have trialled an swf to wmv converter, the swf also runs twice as slow in that prog, as well as when run in powerpoint. Is 120fps unable to be used in the world of PC’s ?
Real movies use 25fps, the human eye cant see 1/25 second changes in frames, I have a 767px tall stage and cars on it travelling at 12 mph, I cannot use less than 120fps as the pngs are jerky, I would have to lessen the frame length of the movie to retain the travel speed, and the pngs would have greater distance to travel per  ‘tick of the clock’, which gives jerkiness, as it would appear that flash as it progresses artwork to each frame moves fwd then pauses then moves then pauses. One could have fluid motion across frames, it would still be eating up so many frames per second, one could have 12fps and 12 frames and a smooth 1 second travel, if motion was uniform, it’s the way flash handles the progression it seems.
I was hoping that this progression would be smoothed out when made into a movie, but its running twice as slow so no advantage there.
    Envirographics

When you export a flash movie to a video format, that video will be set to the defaults for frame rate, size, compressor, etc. You can change these settings in the options window after you select the output file type. Have a look in those settings and see if you can get the output that you need.

actually my project is DEMONSTRATION OF IGCC (Integrated Gasification Combined Cycle) USING FLASH
I have to make effect of fluid flowing through pipe
for that I used many layers, masking, motion tweens (nearly 700 layers I used)
As increasing the number of layers in test movie as well as exported swf playing slowly
It is very slow such that my project is not effective to see
