24bit aiffs, anyone?

My friendly local Apple salesperson said the 60G iPod would play 24-bit AIFF files; iTunes will play them, but iPod doesn't (skips over them). Lucklily, I ripped mp3 copies of the files for backup and was able to hear those. But I bought the iPod for the express purpose of transporting and auditioning these files. (Otherwise, I'm stuck using Disk Mode.)
Apple specs are fuzzy; mentions AIFFs but not specifically 24bit. Was I deceived?

24bit playback takes a 24bit soundcard. Most computers only have 16bit/44.1kHz soundcard and so your 24bit is played back at 16bit, unless you have a 24bit card in your machine. iTunes is probably playing them back at 16bit. The ipod can only playback 16bit files, and cannot do the conversion like a computer.
Edit: I see your machine is a Powermac G5. These DO have 24bit soundcards.

Can't share a home movie to iTunes

I've done this before with no problems, but I just tried to share a couple of movies I just imported from my camera and added titles to, and while iMovie claims it renders the project, and then launches/switches to iTunes, the movies never show up in iTunes. Further, going back to iMovie, the "Share->Remove from iTunes" menu choice is grayed out, like I never shared it in the first place. Any ideas? I've tried repairing permissions, and clearing caches with Cocktail.
I'm running 10.5.8, iMovie 8.0.4, iTunes 8.2.1, all the latest updates from Software Update.

GarageBand does (not yet) allow to share to iTunes as CAF file.

Can't share files from GB to iTunes.

i have the sound blaster Audigy 2 ZS platnium and just recently my sound volume is going up and down for a few minuets ( not dramaticly) when ever i try to adjust it. i tried uninstall the creative software and the sound card. y ist like that?

How exactly do you Export GB midi song so it Sounds at the level of prof CD

I mean volume.
Because i've tried it many times and
either the made CD that i make, the song sounds too low volume even if i put the CD Boombox at full volume, the song is at a looow volume,
or other times it sounds SOOOOO loud even at 5 percent of the total CD boombox volume.
I've treid it with Normalize option on and off.

A couple of things maybe worth mentioning...
Modern CD's are way over compressed and too loud...it's not a bad thing if your tunes are not as loud necessarily.
However, if you want them that way...you need to work with the tools to do so.
For a typical GB user that means working with the tools provided in GB or using third party plug-in.
Of which there are many to choose from at vastly differing prices.
An example of a good sounding 3rd party plug-in that is also inexpensive and easy to work with are Stillwell's Major Tom and Vibe EQ.....

If you don't want to do the work or understand the process....options are using pre-sets.
Ozone 4 for example can be downloaded as a demo. And includes quite a few presets.

While it may seem daunting to understand..it's not really...google how to use compressor's. Check youtube for it too...I think you will see it is not that hard and the rewards far outweigh any reluctance to learn it.
On another note why are you exporting Mp3's?
Export your audio as 24bit Aiff's.

it converted the file and renamed it .aiff but still the now .aiff file in garageband did play but did not
react to tempo change or pitch change it played as the original wav file...

Anyone know how to mix down a Garageband file to 24bit?

I'm trying to take a song I've made on Garageband, and give it to someone for mastering. He needs to have it in a 24bit format, to do the mastering. I can figure out how to convert/export/mixdown the song to that format.

Can anyone heard the difference with 24bit crystali

well, i using my HD650 headphone play few 320Kbps mp3 music, keep turn on/off the 24-bit crystallizer, but I don't feel any difference ?
Can anyone heard the difference? I think its not notable.

Believe me, the improved sound quality and performance gains in gaming alone is reason enough for me to be happy with my upgrade from Audigy 2 Plat Pro ZS to X-Fi Elite Pro.
Add to that the excellent quality i get with my studio software/ harware and very very low ASIO latency settings i am sold. All the other features for me are a bonus. Question is what was your reason to upgrade sound cards... What is it you expected this card to do above your old card. If you play games that use the X-FI features ( and all new top titles will ) the gains are there for the taking BUT of course the rest of your PC has got to compliment your sound card.No point putting it inside a PC that has a bad hair day even running Half Life 2. I sort of feel that due to the several issues you have had installing this card ( reading your other posts ) you do not have my love for it therefore it's easier to bash it.
Get it installed and working correct, then treat yourself to some games that offer a true sound experience , lock yourself in your room and get a few hours of pure heaven gaming with the volume turned up. Feel the love for this superb card flow back into your heart.

3rd Party AIFF loops tempo changes from loop library and Logic session

Hope somebody out there can help me out!
I've recently purchased some 3rd party loops, some in AIFF and some in WAV (Which I have converted to AIFF using the Apple Loops Utility), and i have been able to get these into the logic Loop library successfully.....Or so I thought!
The problem I am having is that when previewing one of my loops it's often double the speed that the set tempo, and this will happen to ALL of my loops. But when I drag one into my session, Logic asks if it should copy over the automation data with it, click yes, and it plays fine in the arrange window. And funnily enough, all of my loops in the library start playing at the correct tempo!
Once this has all happened, i've tried quitting logic, and re-opening....but the issue just happens again....
Has anyone else had this problem, or have any idea as to what the issue may be??
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Can you use iTunes match and not get duplicates if you maintain mp3s and aiffs files of the same song in either the same or separate libraries?

I maintain a collection of aiff files and mp3 files of the same music.
Aiff for home listening and Mp3 for my devices.
I can arrange these in the same or seperate libraires.
Will "itunes match" duplicate the songs in the cloud if they in the same or seperate libraies on the same mac?
If not, is anyone aware of how to manage seperate Mp3 and Aiff libraries so as not to get duplicates in itune match?

I checked my "purchases" and the 7/19/13 purchases don't show up. However, the earlier versions from usually several years back...the ones that are Matched...often do show up in my Purchases. I suspect that somehow those REALLY purchased several year old versions were deleted and redownloaded by me so I could change them to the 256 kbps versions under iTunes Match. They were probably 128 kbps versions originally when purchased.
Why the earlier versions that were really purchased are now identified as Matched is puzzling.
Why I now have Purchased versions from 7/19/13 is puzzling too...especially since these versions do NOT show up in my purchases.
Calling Apple Support if a good idea unless someone can explain this mystery. I might even take one of my laptops to the Apple store and show a Genius.

How do I convert a DV video file to an AIFF file?

Can anyone recommend a good tool for converting a raw DV file that I recorded from a DV camcorder into iMovie 11 to an AIFF audio file?
I was able to convert to an mp3 file with FLV Crunch but it is does not allow me to go directly to AIFF. I would appreciate any help that could be offered. Thank you in advance.

You can do this in iMovie 11.
Drag your DV clip or clips into a new iMovie project.
Then use the Share menu:
SHARE/EXPORT USING QUICKTIME
In the dialog box choose Export: Sound to AIFF
You could do the same thing in MPEG Streamclip or Garageband, but using iMovie is the easiest.

My dvds that are made from iDVD will not play in a standard dvd player. Can anyone help me?*

I am running iDVD v 7.1.2(1158). I used to be able to make dvds that would play in a standard dvd player. As of today I cannot. I do not know what has changed and I do not know what needs to be updated. Can someone assist me?
The dvds that I can make will play from a disk image and they can play perfectly fine in a computer but not in a standard dvd player. I am using an external dvd burner, (The same one have always used) to create the dvds. I am using iDVD to author them.

How did You Export from Video-editing program used ? I prefer
• iMovie HD6 - just drop the movie project icon (NOT iMovie Icon - the PROJECT one) over into iDVD big menu window (avoiding - drop-zones as they are for other tasks)
• iMovie'08 to '11 - Share to MEDIA BROWSER - AND AS MEDIUM - not HD or other resolution as iDVD does a bad downscaling job.
• iMovie'13 (version 10.0.x) - Share as 480p - Import this into iDVD
• FinalCut (Pro or Express) - Export as QuickTime .mov - NO QUICKTIME CONVERSION - IMPORTANT
• Adobe Premiere - I don't know - not tested Yet
• Avid 100 - I don't know - not tested Yet
Cleaning the DVD-burner - If it Burns DVDs OK then that's may be not the problem - But if it only burns CDs OK then either the DVD-burning-laser is dirty or broken.
It is very easy to kill this DVD-laser as it over-heats if one burns several DVDs in a row. I only burn three at a time - then let it cool down for 30 minutes till next batch of three DVDs.

How can I convert 16bit greyscale pictures to 24bit color pictures

Hi,
I am stuck at coloring 16bit greyscale pictures without losing the
resolution of 16bit, as it would happen when using the
WindMapping-thing (which reduces the displayed resolution to 8bit).
I figured that what I would need is probably an array consisting of
32536 RGB-color clusters to convert all greyscale values to a color,
preferrably a rainbow spectrum.
I tried to create such an array via the HSL-model, where the coding of
a rainbow spectrum is easier than in RGB, and then converted it to U32
for obtaining the RGB-colors. The problem here is: Although HSL is
24bit in IMAQ, I can only get about 200 different colors when using
constant saturation and luminance. I understand that 24bit is made of
3x8bit for H,S and L. - However, as the HSL-model describes colors as
Hue (0-359°); Saturation (0-100%) and Luminance (0-100%) I don't really
understand, how those 360 Hue-values could possibly be put into
U8-representation required by the IMAQ ColorToRGB-vi.
Does anyone have an idea how to obtain a 24bit-rainbow spectrum coded
in 32536 distinct colors other than manually creating all the entries?
The reason I need this is to determine whether it will be necessary to
process the images all the way through using I16 or if can be done with
U8 as well without losing too much of detail.
I couldn't figure out any other way to DISPLAY true 16bit other than
the detour using 24bit pictures. It is only about display, not about
processing, which can be well done using the IMAQ I16 format...

Unfortunately our relevant grey values are distributed over a wide
range of about 5000, which I would rather use instead of letting them
melt down to 256...Of course - being able to distinguish between 5000
different greyscale values with the human eye is another story!
However - a co-worker of mine came up with the idea of coding the grey
values in terms of travelling along the axes of the RGB cube, as shown
in the attached image.

How do you make .aiff the default file format to send to iTunes

I am using Garagebend 10.0.2 to edit my audio (nothing fancy just cutting peices I do not want out) and when I go to Share>Song to itunes the default is AAC.
I want the default to be .aiff.
There is nothing in preferences that allows me to change the default setting.

THe "Share "Song to iTunes" uses AAC as its default audio file format and you cannot change it.
If you want to export to AIFF, then use the "Export Sonto Disk" option in the Share menu
In the next Save Dialog, just select the AIFF button (and 16bit or 24bit from the popup menu below)
