24BIT AUDIO NOISE QUIRK IN PREMIERE

Hi to All!
For quite some while we struggle with a strange audio problem in Premiere CS 3 - 6.
What we experience is that when we export a 24 or 32 bit (48 / 96 kHz) clean audio track from (Avid)/Protools then we suddenly hear audible noise in the audio track in Premiere. It is not drastic but still noticeable.
So:
Protools (24bit/96kHz)     =>     Premiere CS3-6     =     noise
Premiere CS3-6 (audio track)     =>     Protools       =      okay
When we look on internet then nobody seems to pick up on this. Which is strange because we get this on several videosets. As a result we stopped working with 24 bit files towards Premiere.
When we do an export the noise is part of the exported file.
OUR EQUIPMENT:
What have all our sets in common.
We always use MasterCollection 3 - 6 (recently only 6)
We have i7 processors Windows 7 machines, with current updates from the OS and Adobe.
We have current updates from Quicktime.
All machines have Blackmagic hardware types (varies from Video shuttle  to a  3D Card)
All machines have Protools hardware (varies from Mbox - Digi002)
We experience the noise while using the Blackmagic hardware. The noise is comparable with the effect when you would use an old tapemachine without Dolby and play it back from the tape. (SR noise ratio +- 60dB). The noise that you hear is very comparable with the effect what we experience on our machines when playing back 24bit files. It is very noticeable on voice only. When using music files this normally masks the problem.
I hope someone identifies with this quirk. I would very much apreciate this.
Regards,
Kai

Figured it out!
The sequence settings were'nt set up in a XDCam Format.
Audio sounds clean now.
Cheers.

  • Audio Noise in exported file

Hey all. This is driving me crazy and can't figure it out. Using Premiere CS6
I am editing 1920x1080 24p ProRes 422 footage, with audio being synced up from an external source. Audio is .wav 48 khz 16 bit.
I am increasing the gain by right clicking>audio gain, and bringing it up about 30 dB. The vocals are then where I want them, but there is a bit of audio noise. I apply the denoiser and make my adjustment and ALL of the noise is gone. First time I did this I thought it was a miracle because it sounded fantastic!
    I went and exported my sequence, 1920 x 1080 24p ProRes Audio 48, 16 bit uncompressed.
And to my horror, where the audio bits come in, there is very obvious audio noise. It wasn't like this when editing the project, only when it was exported. In the sequence it sounds great.
I'm tried creating different sequences, exporting with different audio formats, but I can't figure this out. The rest of the audio, mostly ambiences and other sounds with no effects applied, sound great.
One thing I noticed, is that when right click and go to properties on the audio file it says:
Source Audio Format: 44100 Hz - 16 bit - Stereo
Project Audio Format: 44100 Hz - 32 bit floating point - Stereo
So apparently the source is different from the project? I would think Premiere could handle slightly different formats. Not sure if this is the issue, because I can't seem to select audio presets when creating a new sequence.
    Thanks,
    Dan
    Computer specs:
    MBP 2009 2.53 ghz c2d
    8gb ram
    500 gb int
1tb external fw 800 media drive

I'm trying that now. There is a noise removal feature that is a process, and one that is adaptive.
When I try the process, it takes away all the volume that was gained. When I increase the volume, the noise comes back.
When I try the adaptive process, I get the audio sounding good and how I want it (in the effects window that pops up), but as soon as I select okay to apply the effect, the noise returns in the main editor! <<<--- kind of like what Premiere was doing when I exported the file!

How do I reduce the background noise level using Premiere Elements?

    Welcome to the forum.
PrE has a few Effects, that might help, but an Audio-editing program is much, much better. I use Adobe Audition, but the free Audacity is pretty handy.

Panasonic .MOV files only play audio no video in Premiere Elements 11??? Not Working Help

It all depends on the codec the file uses, Karli.
What model of camcorder is this video coming from?
Are you working on a Mac or a PC? Have you got the latest version of Quicktime, per the program requirements? When you started your project, did you select the settings for a DSLR at 720p? This is a vital step since it will activate the components your computer will need to work with many of these types of files.

  • How do I get audio back on single clip that loses audio when imported into Premiere Pro CC?

I've got one clip out of many that for some reason won't play any audio when imported into Premiere Pro.  I am new to Premiere Pro so am hoping it's something stupid I've done, but this is a problem with just a single clip exported the same way as all my others, the original audio is loud (not quiet) and none of the FAQ issues seem to apply (ie I haven't muted the audio or anything stupid like that)
The clip was exported from Plural Eyes into a "master" Premiere Pro project where the audio is fine. I exported it as a short MP4 clip and if I play the clip in Windows Media Player the audio is there loud and clear.
But when I import the clip into a fresh Preimiere Pro CC project this clip appears with just the "film strip" icon on the far left in the Timeline panel, unlike other clips which have an icon that shows "film strip" in the background and "audio wave" in the foreground.
I'm hitting so many glitches with the CC editions of Premiere Pro and After Effects which have annoying inconsistencies between them I'm tempted to just go back to Sony Vegas Pro (single program, no hassle) but hoping most of these issues are down to "newbie incompetence". Very hard to understand why this one clip out of many should be giving me this specific problem though. Any ideas?

I'm getting so many weird results. Most go away by simply closing the project and re-opening and I only have 6GB memory but even so, I'm disappointed by what I thought was supposed to be more "world class" video editing software than Sony Vegas Pro which I found to be a lot more stable. Also struggling with differences between Premiere and After Effects. Every time I want to do something in Pro I seem to need to go to After Effects and vice-versa. After Effects lets me do more of what I could "just do" in Vegas Pro timeline, but it's hideous for lining up audio and having to render anything in RAM to even get a clue as to what a change has done.  Need to add Audition to the long list as well I suspect. Fun times!

  • Audio volume problem in Premiere elements 12

How can I reduce or increase volume in the soundtrack???

Sorry for my English but I hope you understandthe following.
I have for the moment no time to go through your comments and ideas, but I certainly will do the coming days.
For good order I’ll explain my problem more in detail: (working with Window’s 7)
When I use Tools>smartmix, I change Audio 1 in “forground”, Comments in “foreground”, Soundtrack in “Background”, Audio 2 and 3 in “Background”. So far so good!.
Next step is: edit>preferences>audio>smartmixer, and the only thing I can change is “milliseconds (i.e. 10)”, “mix pause (i.e. 5 sec)”, and “reduce background in % (i.e. 90%)”. So far so good again!
The volume sound  of the audio track is indeed reduced when there is a conversation in the clip, but not enough, so still too loud, certainly when the conversation stops, the volume sound is far too loud.
    What do I want:
    a)      Remain the original volume from the conversations etc. in the clip, so don’t change anything in here.
    b)      Reduce the volume to the level I like!
I realise, this looks an easy and simple question, but I can’t fide out  hou too lower only the volume in a soudtrack!
Waiting your reply and many thanks in advance

  • Noise reduction in Premiere Pro CS5

    Hi,
what is the best way to reduce noise in Premiere Pro CS5 (64bit Windows 7)? I have learned that many people thinks the Neat Video plug-in is the best choice for noise reduction. Is it so or does Premiere CS5 or AE CS5 itself include some special tricks for noise reduction? In the Neat Video's download page
    http://www.neatvideo.com/download.html
one can select between Premiere or AE plug-ins. Is it wiser to do noise reduction in Premiere or in After Effects?
Any help and tips are welcomed.

    Stahlberg wrote:

In my experience, NeatVideo in PPro is the better choice. I get around a 10x improvement in export speed if I use Neat Video in PPro, vs using the Remove Grain effect in AE. And I like the results from Neat Video better.
Now, NV isn't perfect. It's not intuitive. It's difficult to control. I find that looking at what it does to a single frame isn't representative of what the resulting moving video looks like, which makes it hard to judge and decided how much is too much (when in doubt, use less). It seems to be sensitive to other effects in the stack above it too -- if you use the three way color corrector, for example, you should nail that down first before you even set up NV, because tweeking the TWCC after the fact can throw off NV. And if you try to sharpen with NV it tends to increase contrast and extend shadows down and highlights up (not subtle: you see this visually and can verify with a waveform monitor).
I had to buy the pro version just because I'm working with 1080 sources, but I feel like it's a good value for what it does. Saved my bacon on a couple of low light interviews.

  • VoIP audio noise using MacBook Pro

    Hello,
I have a Macbook Pro using an airport snow ethernet and DSL, and I am experiencing a consistent audio noise, a hissing/growl sound through the entire length of any VoIP conversation (I have tried Gizmo Project and Skype). The person I am talking to on the other end does not hear the audio hissing/growl.
I first thought it was related to the application, but that was dispelled after using both Gizmo and Skype and having the same bad audio (although, I will say, Gizmo was better than Skype). Then, I thought it must be my airport router with bad settings, but I haven't improved the audio by changing channels or anything else. I have tried both making forwarded ports in my firewall setup as well as completely disabling the firewall, which isn't prefered of course. I have used both internal speaker/microphone and headset setups, with no improvement. My wireless internet is otherwise awesome without problems, and even Skype says I have a good connection in it's info window.
My last two ideas are: a) that the ethernet cable from the DSL modem to the airport is somehow affected by the numerous electrical cables which run near and parallel to each other, b) my Macbook Pro is not setup properly or has some audio issue in the hardware/software.
Anyone have similiar VoIP issues with their MacBook Pro, or better yet, any solutions or something I could test?
    SRB

I'd suspect a hardware issue from what you've written, I video conference daily using iVisit and the audio is perfect.

  • Canon XA10 and XA20 audio noise

    Hello,
I work with a Canon XA10 and Canon XA20. Both seem to pick up a fair amount of audio noise (like a static shhhhhh), even before I connect wireless microphones. The wireless microphones just intensify it. Is it normal for Canon camcorders to pick up some audio noise? Are there settings to work with to fix this, or should I just plan to continue eliminating the noise in Adobe Audtion, or any other program you would recommend? I greatly appreciate any help you can provide.

    Hello Clare27,
With regards to the camcorder picking up audio noise, the answer would be two fold: yes- as it could potentially record any noise which is present near the microphones when recording, and no- as the camcorder should not actively add static or other 'generated' type noise, such as interference.  That can result from things like connections not being plugged in all the way, crossed cables, receivers and transmitters if anything like that is present.
The camcorder should be set to utilize your external microphone/s only and disabling the onboard microphone.  Having the onboard microphone disabled will cut down on the chances of ambient noise being recorded.  Other than that, simply having your microphones themselves set up and used properly should produce a clean signal which is recorded by the camcorder.

  • Converting 30 FPS audio to 29.97 FPS audio in Audition or Premiere?

I recently shot a wedding using 7 video sources.  Unfortunately the sound guy wasn't really the sound guy so after I set up my camera and checked the board audio he started playing around and surprise... my booth camera didn't get any soundboard audio.  The only decent audio I got was from an iPhone I put in front of the speakers to get a specific shot.
Problem is the iPhone shoots at 30 FPS not 29.97.  So when I try to edit, the sound doesn't sync correctly with the 29.97 footage.
I've tried playing with the speed in Premiere but continue to have sync issues later in the video.  I started to manually go in and remove small clips from the audio timeline in Premiere to manually sync the audio but this is crazy for a 90 minute video.
Is there a way to convert the iPhone 30 fps audio to 29.97 audio in Audition or Premiere?

I had high hopes for Audition's Automatic Speech Alignment... but the audio is 48 minutes.  Audition says I don't have enough memory even though I have 64GB of ram and over a 900 gb of free space on my cache drive. The only way it works is if I break into smaller clips less than 5 minutes each which is basically the same as me doing it manually in Premiere.
To other replies - yes I took the audio out separately to a .wav file and imported by itself.  Still have the same sync issue.  I thought for a brief minute that the sampling rate was the problem (41000 Hz vs 48000 Hz) or the bitrate (16 bit vs 32 bit) but when I corrected it so all were the same, it still has the same sync issue. I must be missing something really simple and on any other day would be obvious.
Guess I'll just go back and edit manually - there are enough silent moments to razor and shift the audio but it shouldn't be this difficult to fix what has to be a somewhat common issue.

  • Loud Audio Noise while Capturing in PP 5.5

I am using a Formac Firewire Audio & Video external capture device with a Firewire 400 to 800 cable to my 12 Core Mac Pro 2.9 GHZ.
Does anyone else use this device?
I am getting a strong audio noise thru the firewire port regardless if my audio input in the "Line In" or "Digital In" in the system.
The noise does not occur in any other application that records video which uses the system audio line in.
I guess my question is "Can you change the Audio Input Device" fo Capturing Video in PP ?
I cant find it .. so I guess not.

Some more information which might help.
Below is a grab of a sequence I've created in PP to show what I'm seeing.
As you can see there are two clips in the timeline, the first pink clip is the finished AE comp which has been imported into PP via the file menu and placed into the timeline, both video and audio play, and are present in the timeline (in pink) so that is a work around if necessary.
The second clip in the timeline has been dynamically linked via the FILE MENU/ADOBE DYNAMIC LINK/REPLACE WITH AFTER EFFECTS COMPOSITION. The video effects that have been applied in the AE comp appear in PP but no audio and as you can see in the PP timeline the A1 is still the origonal file's audio track (in blue under the pink AE comp)

  • FCP audio noise during video transistions

Hi. I have a strange problem with FCP Studio 2.I captured HDV video onto my scratch disk using ProRes 422,and i finish all basic edits and use Livetype templates to generate lower third titles and drop a few seconds of AVI video to which i also add text using Boris text scrambler to superimpose text onto the AVI video in FCP. Once all is done and rendered on the timeline in FCP i can hear strange audio noise/interference a slight distortion of the audio track during any part where a LiveType title or AVI video has a intensive transition used with a audio track associated with the transition. The more intensive the video transition the more distorted (like a slight pop) the audio gets, it is noticeable. when there is no transitions, the audio is normal. Is this just lack of CPU power on my MacBook Pro causing this audio probelm?
    Heath

Is everything rendered -no colored line above the video clips on the Timeline?
You might also need to check that all the render options are checked on.

  • Static audio noise during a call

    Hello,
Few days ago I bought Z3 compact and all works fine but one thing. I hear static audio noise (ssshhhhh) when speaker is activated - for example when i make a call or if i play music/video and turn volume down/off. I would like to know if this is normal on Z3 compact or i should go to service? I tried some other phone brands and there is absolutely no static noise on them. Can someone confirm me if he does/doesn't experience this? Btw. volume of that noise is not huge, just enough to annoy you during a call. Thx.
    Regards.

Hi. Just an update on subject. I took the phone to the repair service and they said all is normal - so they are telling me that background sound noise in earspeaker is a normal thing on a top model worth 500 EUR. Great. This really deserves detail sound review to be made via YT video. I will analyze amount of sound noise with sound editing software and publish video. Then we will see how normal all this is. Btw. same problem is described also here:

  • Girder Plugin and audio noise

I ave a problem with girder and the msi remote plugin.
There is a ticking noise like every 100ms or something that drives me crazy.
I use headphones and it's very noticable.
If i enter girder setup, uncheck the msi remote plugin, click ok.
    The noise is gone.
I have no idea why a remote plugin can cause audio noise lol
Is it just my system or is this a known problem ?
I have tried the nforce drivers which came with the box, and yesterday
also the latest nforce drivers, same problem.
Strange thing is if i use the MSI mega key finder it doesnt have that noise...
    Dst

    Hi
The plugin uses the same API as the Radio does. So it seems to be not unlikely that the driver will create noise on your audio output.
You're saying that you hear the noise every 100 ms. Please try to adjust the time resultion in the plugin's settings (let's say for 1000 ms). If you hear the noise then every second, the problem is related to the MSIDrvIF.dll driver which comes form MSI. In that case there is nothing I can do about it.
Otherwise the problem is somewhere else. Perhaps the driver initialization process behaves strange on your system. Then get in contact with me and I'll try to adjust the source code (adding mute to the radio or something like that).
    Regards

  • What Filter to use to filter out audio noise?

What Filter can I use to filter out audio noise? I'm using FCP 5.1.4
    Thanks!

Do you happen to know if there is a noise reduction feature in regular Soundtrack (the non-Pro version)? I know there is a great one in the Pro version that can analyze a section of the track and then apply a noise reduction feature to the entire track. I doubt my version has this feature, but if it does, where is it, and how does one use it?
    Much thanks!
