24p to NTSC: Need a digital Ray Harryhausen

I've been working on the best way to display a 1280x720 progressive frame animation on NTSC DVD. (Shippey, thank you for your info under someone elses topic heading) The project was created at 29.97 fps. Most of the shots look fine with motion blur created in After Effects. 2 shots panning left to right look awful. The pan isn't fast enough to just apply more motion blur. I'd like to "see" the image. Some field tests play smoothly, but that really has a different look that I'd like to avoid. iDVD seems to require the DV/DVCPRO codec to correctly field render. That really changes the appearance of chroma.
I've just run 2 tests. One of the problem pans, Shot008, was rendered at 60 fps and 24 fps. 60 fps looks great on a LED monitor, but jitters just just like 29.97 non-interlaced, on a CRT TV using a DVD player.
24 fps actually looks clearer. However, when iDVD flags the footage and performs 3:2 pulldown, the hold on the 4th frame creates a stutter. It would be great if I could some how get that hold frame to blur; like Harryhausen created a blur frame by double exposing alternating frames of stop motion.
Tests were viewed on 2 seperate TVs and stand alone DVD players, Hitachi and Panasonic. The components could be considered medium grade.
I read in a magazine article that there is a method for taking 24 fps and making play as 48 fps on NTSC DVD. The process wasn't elaborated on.

John,
Did you look at the JES Deinterlacer at http://www.xs4all.nl/~jeschot/home.html ?
It's a pretty amazing free application.

  • To report a question you need your digital receipt. what if i no longer have that??

    Hi,
I preordered midnight memories the day that it was available and today Monday the 28th of October "Story of My LIfe was available". it says that i purchased the song and that my preorder is on the album but the song is not in my music! can someone please tell me what is happening and how i can get my song? I never received an email about my download being available, so i have no link. I have tried everything you guys have suggested above but its not working for me . Everytime i go to the download section of my music it says that i have no active downloads. Can someone please please please help me....i'd really like my song! Thanks so much!
Also i was thinking, maybe if i cancel my order and reorder it then i can get my song. Would this be a better option? and would i get my money refunded right away?
i was also thinking about reporting my problem to Itunes, but apparently you need your digital receipt to do that which i no longer have what do i do???

Deauthorize all, then authorize the active computers.

  • Files or Folders needed for blu-ray disc missing !

    Hi,
I have Encore CS6. It successfully builds 'blu-ray folder' & 'blu-ray image' without any error. But when I try to create an iso image of the prepared folder using 'Ashampoo Burning Studio' it gives an error message saying that the folder doesn't contain all the files and folders needed for blu-ray. But when tried to do the same for DVD, there is no error. My blu-ray burning drive is broken and I want to check my finished project from my hard drive using Daemon's Tool and VLC or PowerDirector.
Could anybody advise how this can be fixed on Encore CS6. Encore CS5 never had this problem.
    Thanks

Tried that as well. The player gave an unrecognized format error.

  • Converting NTSC DVD to Blu-ray or PAL DVD

Why doesn't Encore allow me to change a DVD project to a Blu-ray project with the ability to choose the frame size and rate, or to change an NTSC DVD to a PAL DVD? It looks like the option is there, but they are grayed out.
I exported my Premier Pro CS3 project for NTSC DVD, PAL DVD and Blu-ray, hoping to simply change to Encore CS3 project type, and then replace the assets with the appropriate file/format exported from Premier.

    >Maybe worth a feature request for CS5?
    God in heaven - NO!
As Joe just pointed out, these are 2 completely different TV standards, running on different frame rates at different resolutions.
The results of attempting this "on the fly" with menus etc would very closely resemble a dogs dinner.
    >I would therefore guess that you are stuck with copying the menus and other such assets into a new Encore project for each output format.
    That won't work.
NTSC is 720x480, PAL is 720x576. They have different PAR as well.
If compliance is what you need, then design your menus in Square Pixels at 720 x 540, and resize the image (in PS) to the required TV standard before importing into Encore. 16/9 is worse, as you need to use different designs for each TV standard. There are no short-cuts.
    Asset preparation should be done
    i outside
    the authoring application, never
    i in
    it.

  • Converting 24p to NTSC 30 fps with existing footage already captured

Working on a project that should have come to me downconverted to NTSC 30fps. I already have footage that was shot DVCPro 24p and have started working (selecting) with the footage. We would like to shoot our remaining footage downconverted in-camera to NTSC 30fps.
So - I'm curious if FCP allows you to convert material that's already been captured.
    Thanks
    G4   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

You'd need to use the Standards Converter from www.nattress.com.
$100 but worth it. It also converters 30 to 24, and PAL to NTSC, and vise versa.

  • 1080 @ 24p to NTSC

Hi we are making an animated TV series in 1080 @ 24p.
After our NTSC 29.97 pulldowns, the duration of our show becomes longer; thus we need to cut the timeline to 23:58.16 (in FCP) in order to achieve 24:00:00 at 29.97.
First of all, is this normal? Shouldn't the pulldown keep the duration more or less the same?
Secondly, what percentage of retiming control (in Compressor) should we use to get our 24 to the duration of the 29.97?
    Thanks for looking!

PAL is 720 x 576 pixels interlaced (bottom first).
If it's 16:9 aspect ratio, you need to select "Anamorphic" and the frame rate it 25 fps.
If you need help with Compressor settings - I use Best for everything including re-sizing - processing is slow but the result is excellent.
I believe you can use MPEG Streamclip for converting, but I have not tried it.

  • Do I need Adobe Digital Editions 2 and 3. on my computer?

Recently I was going through 'Programs and Features' and realized I had Adobe Digital Editions 2 and 3 installed. Are both needed. I am running Vista on Windows 7 (64 bit).
I have medical memory problems and am finding Chrome to be challenging.
I also wonder if this could be related to the problem I am having with not being able to open Adobe Reader. I have the JavaScript all figured out and am trying everything I can think of to open Adobe Reader. I am open to any suggestions.
Because of my problems all replys need to be in English (not in computer jargon) and in a 1, 2, 3 sequence. Sorry to be troublesome but thats me.
Thanks to all who want to give it a try.

I had the same issue.  I uninstalled version 2 and my program ran fine.  Well, it still has the same problem I had with version 2, which is why I'm in the forums right now, but you don't need both versions.  I don't know if having both will cause issues or not (some extensions and apps have this issue) from what I saw, downloading version 3 did not update version 2.  You just got another ADE program that was a bit newer.
However, I'm not an expert.  This is just what I experienced by uninstalling it.  I highly doubt you'd have a problem.  And if you do have some weird issue from it?  Uninstall all ADE programs from your computer, and then reinstall the most current version available.  Should fix you right up.  Good luck!

  • Do I need a blu ray burner to burn HD using Final Cut Express?

I just wanted to ask a question. I am new to burning after editing is complete. I am using Final Cut Express and have recorded my footage in HD. After trying to burn a disc using IDVD I realized it does not burn HD. So to be clear, in order for me to burn my HD finished sequences and have them be HD I need to purchase a blu-ray player?....also everyone keeps talking about Toast, what is this and do I need it to burn HD. Any advice would be much appreciated.
    Thank

ANY DVD player cannot play HD content no matter what media it is on. HD content needs HD decoder and other circuitry and S/W which is not present on standard DVD player, just like standard definition TV cannot play HD programing. HD content has to be down converted with application such as iDVD to play on ANY DVD player, at which time it is no longer HD of course. In order to play high definition disc, you'll need HD content on HD media, blu-ray player and HDTV.

  • Need New Digital for Vacation

My family and I are heading to the beach and Disney soon, and I would like to purchase a new digital to take.  I already own a DSLR, which I will use for beach pictures.  My problem with my current smaller digital is that it's bulky and uses AA batteries, which I am constantly changing.  There are so many choices, and even reviews haven't helped much.  Here are my requirements:
    1)  Under $200 (closer to $100 would be nice)
    2)  Lightweight/compact
    3)  HD Video
    4)  Able to purchase extra batteries that won't cost me $50 each...I need to be able to use for an entire day without recharging.
5.) Can use my SDHD card
What is the BEST performing camera that meets my needs?

I'd suggest looking through Canon's lineup to see which PowerShot series meets your needs in your price range.  All use SDHC, I think all have HD video now (although the audio is going to be bad on any point-and-shoot), all are fairly lightweight/compact (You'll have to make a tradeoff here - the A-series are larger but often have more features for the dollar, the SD-series have fewer features but are smaller.)
For 4) you probably won't have success with many cameras unless you are willing to purchase third-party batteries.  At that point nearly any camera has cheaper batteries available.

  • Need CCA Digital Certificate

    HI,
I am working on one project POC, where i need to use CCA webservices, but when i run java program i am getting error "sun.security.validator.ValidatorException: No trusted certificate found".
I think, I need to install digital certificate of CCA, but I don't know from where i can get this. I am having account in CCA.
    Regards,
    Deepak

    Hello
I dont think you can delete the certificates in the QC51. You can only store or archive the certificate attached to each certificate numbers

  • 24p rookie! Needs help!

So I'm not completely new to FC, but I've always shot 29fps and used FCE. I am now in the process of editing a feature (in FCP) that was shot on a DVX100. The footage was shot in 24p and a 16:9 ratio. I was wondering if someone could help me with what setting adjustments I should make to get the fullest quality out of my project.
    Thanks.

    Floops,
You should really do a forum search as this has come up so frequently in the past years there are scads of pages that you need to read and digest. I'll wager some really great reading authored by Graeme Nattress and Adam Wilt rise to the top of a Google search as well.

  • Dvx100 24p advanced footage needs rendering?

I have footage captured from a DVX100 as 24p advanced into FCP. I used 2:3:3:2 pulldown to capture it. Now I'm editing on a 23.98 timeline but final edit needs to be rendered in that timeline despite the fact that I don't have any filters. However, in a regualr 48khz timeline, it needs no rendering. Can anyone help?

I would wager if you look at the footage, the pulldown has not been pulled out and the clip is still at 29.97. There is probably some break in the cadence and the pulldown was left in. You can try Remove Advanced Pulldown from the menu on the clip and see what happens...

  • 24p advanced footage needs rendering?

I shot footage in 24p advanced and imported into FCP using 2:3:3:2 pulldown. I then began editing in a 23.98 timeline and discovered that all clips I put there need rendering. I then changed the timeline to 48Khz (not 23.98 or 24p) and the clips don't need rendering anymore. I'm positive I shot in 24pa, especially because I see the stuttering when I panned during the shooting/recording stage. Even the screen on the DVX100 indicated 24pa. What am I doing wrong?

Sometimes I have a similar problem. I shoot advanced 24p on my XL-2 and capture using the pulldown removal setting on FCP -- but when I get there the footage needs render. Honestly -- I would try just re-capturing and making sure all the settings are correct. Before I do anything in my project file I always change the EASY SETUP to universal Pulldown Removal settings. That way, I'm positive it will be capturing into the correct timeline setups, etc.

  • Need 1200 digital outputs that can be updated at 1 MHz

I need to control about 1200 digital outputs (CMOS or TTL)  at high speed (1 MHz).  Any platform
that gets the job done is OK, but I usually program in a WinXP environment.   I also have a problem
of distributing these signals to many units over a roughly 50 by 50 foot area, so I also need hardware
to either drive the outputs over an extended length of wire or to wirelessly distribute the signals to
multiple substations which each operate between 10 and 50 units.
A small number of inputs (maybe just two) would be very useful to control the timing of the
    state transitions.

    Thanks for  your response.
Our application is controlling LED's for a computer graphics application.
    http://gl.ict.usc.edu/Films/RelightingHumanLocomotion/index.html has
some pictures of the apparatus, as well as a short video showing how
it works and the results we've got so far.
The basic idea is to capture varying illumination conditions extremely
rapidly using high-speed (Vision Research) cameras that go at 5000 fps
or so.  The signals that drive the lights are just 5V DC,
currently supplied by a large number of PICS, but we are hoping to find
    a more
centralized solution, as well as a higher performance solution (large
program memory for many lighting patterns, high speed processing to
support flexible computation of patterns, high speed updating of
outputs to allow for multiple on/off states within a single 200 usec
    interval
to simulate grayscale control of the LED's).
If the system is fast enough, it is possible that a smaller number of
outputs could drive a large bank of latches that provide the final
    outputs,
but ideally this would be handled by the NI hardware.  In other
words, we would just buy enough output units, hook them up, and then the
programmer just sets the 1200 bits of memory as desired and then triggers the refresh.
To distribute the signals, one possibility is to have output units with
between 10 and 50 outputs that can be connected to the central
controller with long cables (up to 40 feet) and which in turn drive
individual lights through wires about 10 feet long.  Wireless
    would be
    even better if it exists.

  • Using Air Port for music...do I need a digital to analog converter

I want to play my iTunes library on my old stereo using my iPod Touch as a remote control (that works well with my Bose Wave Radio).  My old stereo is an analog system. When I plug the output of my Air Port Express into my stereo though RCA cable, do I need to use a Digital to Analog Converter (DAC) or is there a DAC as part of the Air Port Express???
    Many thanks,
    Twinz

After doing a little more digging, I find that using a Toslink cable out of the AirPort Express and into a quality external DAC, and then using RCAs to connect to my pre-amp will get much better results out of my stereo. Evidently the DAC in the AirtPort is not great quality.  So, what I'm going to do is hook up the stereo through the AirPort and listen.  If it sounds bad, I'll spring for a decent external DAC.  Many thanks!
