25 fps on iPhone 4

Am I wright, that it isn't possible to make movies with 25 fps by default with the iPhone? If I'm wrong, please let me know the how to.
If I'm wight: Please Apple - dont't forget that there is a system called PAL out there. I'm shure, it would't be to difficult for you to build a pref for the iPhone where you can chose the framerate (24, 25, 30 fps).
THANKS, Robert

Ah... I checked a bit on the interwebs.
iOS chooses the frame rate for you. I happen to check a low-light video (it shoots 24fps for those) vs a bright/outdoor full sun video (30fps)
So, bottom line is if you want to fix a frame rate, you need to re-encode if the iPhone picks the "wrong" one based on lighting conditions.

  • Low-FPS on Retina-display

    Hi
I have swf-app with sizes 960x480. And test it on Iphone 3gs and Iphone 4. If i build app with requestedDisplayResolution=high, i have low fps on Iphone 4, but the 3gs shows good results. I have bitmaps about 300x300 sizes (and less) on stage.
Also I use stageQuality=BEST, because I need a smooth movement of fractional coordinates
how you use requestedDisplayResolution and what fps you see?
    Thx
    P.S.
    Tested on air 3.1, 3.0 and 2.7
    <fullScreen>true</fullScreen>
    <renderMode>gpu</renderMode>

Are you using exactly the same assets on both the iPhone 4 and 3GS, because if so it makes no sense that it'd run better on the 3GS. I'd say that using stageQuality=BEST is probably the cause of your problems, the default setting is MEDIUM for a reason.

  • IPhone 6 plus videos choppy when imported to iMac

all of my videos from my iPhone 6 plus are choppy when I import them to iPhoto. They play fine on phone and the choppy parts occur at same spots of playback as if file is corrupt. I tried playing videos in quicktime and opening in iMovie. anyone have same issue? OS X 10.9.5, iPhone 6 plus

So I figured out that Mavericks was not the problem. It still occurred using Yosemite. It played a short video at 60 when I posted last just fine, but wasn't fixed. The problem may lie in your video card not being able to support 60 fps. Its not a common format. I have no problem playing video recorded at standard 30 fps from iPhone. I've read iMovie does not support 60 fps, I don't know why it lets you import it. I only film 30 fps now and it works okay. I noticed that any hiccups in project smooth out on created file.

  • Air for Android performance

    Hi everyone,
I'm currently working on a game for iOS devices and I've decided to test it on android as well to see the performance difference.
My game works at 50-60 fps on iphone 3GS, almost constant 60 fps on iphone 4 and constant 60 fps on iPad2.
I own a Nexus 1 and from reading in different forums it seems like it should perform almost the same as iphone 3GS.
When I deploy my game to my Nexus using the same code and optimization techniques I used for the iphone (and of course using GPU mode) I get 17 fps at the most. Now I've done some testing and it seems that the game runs on 60 fps when nothing is moving around but when I start to blit one bitmap object it drops to 30fps right away.
Is 30fps the max you can get on devices like the Nexus 1 using Air or is it Air's limit for all android devices?
    Thanks,
    Oz

Ok, here is the code of a small test I did:
    var bitmap:Bitmap = new Bitmap(new Square());
    addChild(bitmap);
    addEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME, function() {  bitmap.y += 0.2; });
addChild(new FPSTimer()); // a class that shows the frame rate, I tried removing it to see if the speed of the square movement changes but it doesn't make a difference.
That's all the code I have on the first frame of the project. The Square is a 10x10 pixels bitmap with a blue solid color and no transparency at allt that I have in my library.
When I only add the bitmap to the stage without running the update event I get 60fps, once I start to run the update to move the Square it drops immediately to 30fps, for moving only this small bitmap.
deploying the same file using cpu I get arounf 55fps.
edit: I also tried changing the color depth back to 16-bit like it was in older versions of Air. It's now working on 19fps instead of 17 :/
edit 2: I decided to try and replace my sdk back to 2.7. doing that I also managed to increase the fps to 19-20 but not above that. I also tried to run the test I did and now it runs with 40fps on gpu and 57 fps on cpu. but it shouldn't even change the fps because I'm moving on small bitmap, I really don't get it.

  • Low FPS when accesing iPhone video output image buffer

    2 down vote favorite
Hi, I'm trying to do some image processing on iPhone. I'm using http://developer.apple.com/library/ios/#qa/qa2010/qa1702.html to capture the camera frames.
My problem is that when I'm trying to access the captured buffer, the camera FPS drops from 30 to about 20. Does anybody knows how I can fix it?
I use the lowest capture quality I could find (AVCaptureSessionPresetLow = 192x144) in kCVPixelFormatType_32BGRA format. If anybody knows a lower quality I could use, I'm willing to try it.
When I do the same image access on other platforms, like Symbian, it works OK.

I also happen to have T-Mobile, but the problem happened on WiFi as well as you mentioned and therefore didn't seem to be related to carrier.
I expect your videos are playing normally again like mine since yesterday morning. I guess it had something to do with the video codecs/standards being used by major video service providers like you thought, but I found it curious that so many different video sources beyond YouTube caused me the same problem during that time. I did find that Daily Motion worked fine when the other services weren't working, so I knew it had to be service (and what standards they were using) specific.
Still, how were there not tons and tons of other people experiencing this!? I had it happen on both my 6+ and my iPhone 4. Maybe there were other factors specific to my area/connection (outside of connection speed which was always fine) that resulted in it, but still...

  • Why did frame rate of video shot on iphone 5 change from 30 fps to 24 fps?

Why did frame rate of video shot on iphone 5 change from 30 fps to 24 fps?

My understanding (which could be wrong) is that the iPhone shoots video with a variable frame rate. This is likely so it can optimize video for FaceTime. So uncomplicated scenes can be shot with a lower framerate, and active scenes will be shot with a higher framerate.

  • Error video 60 fps iphone 6 plus

since i bought my iphone 6 plus 16gb, i used the assistive touch, i didn't know that using it enable my camera to launch 60 fps, so apple this is a huge error you should fix it right away

mm..would love to have someone respond to this. I guess this is not unique to me, lots of others must have issues with finding files on their iPhones.

  • IPhone video has a strange FPS.

There has been a lot written about "choppy playback" of iPhone video once it's trasferred to another device.  It seems to me that the problem is in the frame rate used in the original video.  In Quicktime, I'm seeing an actual frame rate on playback of something like 18 FPS, when the file is stamped with 30 FPS.  When will this issue be resolved by Apple?  And for now, what is the best work around?  I've already begun experimenting with different settings during export from Quicktime.  Choosing iPhone as a setting creates a .m4v file, but the image size is greatly reduced, and the conversion is very time consuming.  Howeber the frame rate issue seems to be resolved--no  more choppy playback and the new file is playing back at a true 30 FPS (or maybe it's 29.97 but that's another topic).
It's been said before but I'll say it again:  it's beyond belief that Apple can release hardware and software that is this buggy!  Even for the most novice user, this is totally unacceptable.  They love to say "it just works".  Well it doesn't.
    Anyone with me on this?
    Peter

AFIK, this is all fairly late model Apple hardware and was top of the line when I bought it 3 years ago.  Also keep in mind I don't have any issues playing back any other HD content.  Only files created on the iPhone 4s.
It doesn't matter if I have other apps running or not--the symptom persists.
I've observed two seemingly identical video files created on my iPhone 4s (using Get Info in Quicktime all parameters are equal) where one plays smoothly and one has the jumpiness.  Other times a file that had been playing smoothly starts acting jumpy again after reopening.  Bear in mind, the jumpiness doesn't behave like a CPU being overloaded, but is a very regular rhythm--about a jump every second.  I would expect an overloaded CPU to produce more random symptoms during playback.  I'm now seeing the jumpiness even in the videos I exported using Picasa.  Keep in mind, I did not "upload to Picasa Web Albums" but just exported to another location on my internal hard disk.  The specs on the exported files look the same as the original including the data rate, which is 21.7 mbits/sec.  In other words, they were not optimized for streaming.  Why they played back smoothly before and not now is baffling.
Some have speculated that movies created with the camera upside down maybe have some extra data attached in order to play back in the correct orientation.  However in most cases my problem files were recorded "right side up" and still they have the jerkiness upon playback.
Finally, you state that 720p is the default iPhone image size but these files appear to be 1080 (progressive or interlaced I don't know).  Isn't that what 1920 x 1080 implies?  And again, the data rate is 21.7 mbits (is that the same as the bitrate, which you said should be 11 Mbps?).
Your help in this matter is greatly appreciated.

  • How to save a video in 240 FPS  (iPhone 6)

    How can I save a video in 240fps as a standalone video… ?

    Hi Macfree,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
It sounds like you would to adjust the entire video clip to be a Slo-Mo video. You can adjust the area of the clip that you would like to be in Slo-Mo. Please read over the information (located on the bottom of page 86) in the iPhone User Guide for instructions to complete this task.

  • Will iPhone 4 be able to film in 720p @ 24 FPS?

im really hoping it has the capability of 24 Frames per second as i would be able to make "Film style" movies for kicks and giggles. if not, do you suppose an app can be made to do it? or is it a firmware issue?

    Apple says 720p 30 fsp.

  • IPhone 4 camera at 25 fps.

    Hello
If anyone at Apple is reading. I have recently discovered imovie on the iphone and see a real potential. Being a professional film editor, i was curious to see what editing could like on an iphone and I find it to be an excellent experience. Reminds me a bit of film without the hassle.
Anyway, the problem is that the iphone video and therefore all the workflow behind it, is at about 30fps, which means that when I do a PAL DVD (I live in europe) of my film at the end, I have a very nasty pull-down. So PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE put a video pref in the iphone settings to define the video frame rate. I don't know what this technically means but i imagine that it is a software issue. I am sure that it would not be too hard.

There is no one from Apple here, we're all users, just like you. Make your feelings/suggestions known to Apple here:

  • Different frame rate in movie mode? iPhone 4

I noticed that my iPhone shoots video clips with different frame rate from time to time. I suppose it slows frame rate on dark shots. For now all of my daylight shots are 30 fps, while night or dark ones are 25 and 24. This makes it hard to edit clips in iMovie for example, because difference in frame rate causes strobe motion effect on output.
    Anybody have the same?
For reliable results I would suggest to shoot two clips: one in sunny daylight conditions, another with ordinary room lightning, maybe a little darker than normal.
Please let me know of the results. Thanks

Doesn't seem to be just a Quicktime bug:

  • I film with an iPhone and edit in PE10, what project settings would be best?

So I'm filming a short film with my iPhone 4S, and editing in PE10. The recommended project setting for the iPhone 4S's footage is 'Flip Mino HD and Ultra HD 29_97'. However, I film using an App called FilmicPro, which allows me to customize frames per second, resolution and audio capture with some settings. In my case, I've set the app to film at 30fps and with a resolution of 1920x1080. I still use the above mentioned project setting. So my first question is:
-If I'm filming in 1080x190 at 30fps, is there a different setting I should be using for the project?
Now for the second part. The first part of my editing process is I start a project, select 'Flip Mino HD and Ultra HD 29_97', then I splice and string together the raw footage from FilmicPro like normal. Next I export the project with the settings:
Quicktime (For email and playback on Mac)
    Output: 1920x1080, 29_97fps, Progressive, Quality 100 48000hz, Mono, H.264
    Source: Clip, Sequence 01,
1280x720 (1.0), 29_97 fps, Progressive, *insert duration*, 48000 Hz, Stereo
    Audio Codec: AAC
    Sample Rate: 48000 Hz Mono
    Video Codec: H.264
    Field Type: Progressive
    Aspect: Square Pixels (1.0)
Render at Max. Depth: 24 bit
After I export the project, I start another project (not changing the project settings from before), and then I import the finished project as media so I can add special FX (in this case muzzle flashes, blood, etc.). However when I add the video, PE10 states the project settings dont match, and asks if I'd like the program to choose the correct settings. I select yes. This changes the project settings to 'DSLR-1080p-DSLR 1080p30'. I edit without issues, and use the same export settings as I did for the base draft. I also notice when I view the project settings in the second project after it changes settings, that it says the editing mode is now 'Sony XDCAM EX 720p'. So my second question is:
-Should I use the setting that PE10 switches to? Or select 'No' and still use the Flip Mino setting i used for the first draft?
The end video still looks great (for an iphone), although of course there is still noise. I'm basically trying to get the absolute best quality possible. If this is as good as it gets, and It turns out ive been doing this right, then that's fine. But if anyone can recomend better settings to use, then please tell. Thanks.
Forgot to mention, I'm using an unmodified MacBook Pro (2006) with Adobe Premiere Elements 10. Dont know if that info is needed, but thought I'd include it.

Maybe I missed something. So extra post on this.

If you have 720p30 footage, you should be using

    AVCHD

If that is what you have, do you really want to export that as 1920 x 1080 or 1280 x 720?
