250 Gig HD only shows 182 gig after install

Hi everyone.
I have an issue that has been bugging me for about 2 years. I am getting ready to do a major back-up and reinstall and thought i would ask about this.
The beast is a 700 mhz flat panel G4 768mb ram iMac. I installed a Seagate (i think, its been a while) 250 gb hard drive but it only recognizes 182 gb.(about this mac/ATA)
I have upgraded to tiger thinking that an upgrade would help but that did nothing for the recognition issue.
Is there anything I can do about this?
It's not really a problem. just bugs me a little.

actually it says 186.31 capacity in the "more inf/ATA" heading.
I didnt split it up if thats what you mean by partitioning it. I just selected the basic single partition or all one drive option then let the Apple disk utility do the rest.
I have tried permission and disk repair but that didn't do anything for me. I was going to attempt another erase and reinstall but I havent had the time to get everything backed up on my external drive.

SP3 Almost completes installation but freezes at the Finishing stage showing "Running processes after install"

I have an HP Pavilion zd7000 laptop with Windows XP & SP2 update installed. Processor is Intel Pentium 4. My system is clean with no rubbish software running. I have several anti-malware & anti-spyware systems installed but they are dormant & not running during the attempted installation. SP3 almost completes installation but freezes at "Finishing" stage showing "Running processes after install". Anti-virus is of course switched off. The system then hangs fore-ever with hard disc activity showing intermittently but nothing else happening. Luckily, by holding down the laptop on/off switch I can always eventually restore to previous settings & recover full use but without SP3! This is annoying & frustrating. I have seen a lot of threads about this problem but no real answers. Can anyone help please?

What is Shmrate.exe is not running?
This can be read two different ways
One well if you look at it like this
User>shmgrate>Operating system>drivers>computer. Result is denied!
If you have something like this
User > User Account Control >Operating system>drivers>computer. Result is denied again!
Note that an adminstrator is only a adminstrator and Computer Adminstrator can install Sp(s). Which I believe is tyour question. Which is my guess.
Which is the reason some people reccommend installing from the "Adminstrator" account Which generally is not a User account. Yes some people add and modify there account access by using Subinacl.exe and reset.cmd, which bumps the account from adminstrator to Computer Adminstrator. An alternative is to boot into safe mode. Pressing the *F8* key before the windows welcome screen starts up. And selecting safe mode. Which is why more people report success with using the .ISO install.
To add to your confusion. Windows Sp2 usually has windows installer 3.0, or windows installer 3.1
Table us types of accounts. I wish windows 200 documentation had made it completely into Xps documentation. They had an excellent table with tthe types of accounts
Limited user. Not able to run more then basic programs. Not able to ;install device drivers, not able to install progras, not able to install Sp(s)s
Power user Able to run more advanced programs. IE Defragger.
adminstrator. Mess with the operating system, back up things, able to install programs, add users.When Windows Xp is installed this is the type of user associated with adminstrator. NOT CA
Computer adminstrator. Able to Install of all things Sp(s).
Hopefully this helps you out. Of course there is the release notes, Xp solution center and of course things to do before installing Sp3.

500 GB TC only showing 476.9 after erase.

After erasing TC to start a new fresh install, I only show 476.9 GB capacity. Shouldn't it be 500 since it's a 500 GB? Or at least a bit closer than 476.9?
I opened the TC and manually deleted all files and then erased through AirPort Disks.
Is 476.9 a normal true capacity for the 500 GB or have I lost 23.1 Gig somehow?

That is normal. When you format a drive you always lose some space. The bigger the drive, the more space you lose. On my 1TB drive, there is only around 960GB of free space. Just look at the hard drive on your computer and you will see that the total space of the drive does not match what you would have on paper (ie: if you have an 80GB drive you will see that you really only have around a 71GB partition.

IMovie only show background music after connecting to my external iMovie Mediathek, no video!!! desperat, i potentially lost a big project...

I work with an external iMovie-Mediathek so my big project don't mess up my macbook. I was working on a big project (45 min.) after the program crashed. Now, when I try to connect again to the external Mediathek, it will only show the background music I used, no video material at all... !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! But in the "events"-section, it looks normal with the preview just like always during the last couple of days... It even shows the size of the file with 146GB (which is correct), but still only the music is displayed (about 7 tracks).
I need urgent help. Same thing happened to the security-backup I make regularly...

Platform.conf only has 2 lines after install

Environment:
App: Sun ONE Portal Server: Secure Remote Access 6.0
OS: Solaris 2.8
Basic config setup: Portal Server (and SRA) installed on one machine. No SSL. The Portal Server, Gateway and Rewriter proxy are all installed on the same machine.
Problem description:
After everything is installed, /etc/opt/SUNWps/platform.conf is missing info unexpectedly. It only shows the following lines:
gateway.bindipaddress=10.41.7.210
gateway.sockretries=3
Question: This doesn't look normal...Is this supposed to happen?...If not, what could be some of the reasons this is happening?
When I installed the gateway and re-writer proxy, I specificied the same profile name for them both as according to the SRA admin guide: "Ensure that the rewriter proxy and the gateway use the same gateway profile."

You must use different profile names if you are installing the gateway and the rewriter proxy on the same machine. If you use the same name, you get the result you describe.
The SRA admin guide is trying to say that you must refer the rewriter proxy to the correct gateway profile. This is described in the SRA installation guide.
I suggest you uninstall the gateway and the rewriter proxy and re-install both with different profile names.

GDM doesn't show up anymore after installing catalyst, Xorg works fine

I just installed catalyst-hook from Vi0L0 and my situation is this: when I boot my computer the output on the tty1 gets stucked after the checking the filesystem with systemd-fsck and nothing appears after that, no blinking cursor, no prompt that asks me for a login, no nothing, nothing progress in both textual and graphic modes ; however, if I switch to the 2nd terminal with ALT + F2 I can login and start Xorg via the usual
startx
and apparently no session is ever being initiated before that so whatever is happening on tty1 must prevent xorg from even starting a new session.
What I tried
The main problem is that I have absolutely no idea what this is about, It could be anything ranging from modprobe to gdm, but since I have an audio card that only works properly when the appropriate configuration in
/etc/modprobe.d/modprobe.conf
gets loaded and I can even start a desktop session, I'm assuming that the core stuff on my system ( kernel modules and Xorg ) is working properly .

doesn't fix anything and doesn't make a difference at all

Apparently this should fix the same problem experienced by KDM users; as far as I can tell this changes nothing .
Bottom line
I can't get to the GDM login anymore after installing catalyst-hook, I can use the fglrx without any major issue, I can start a desktop session with startx from tty2 and tty1 gets stuck before anything "graphical" can actually appear on the screen and probably non even Xorg gets any chance of running on tty1 .
What kind of problem is this ?

You won't find it with pacman, because it is in the AUR and you will to compile it to install it.

IWeb not showing iPhoto library after installing Lion

Hi, can anyone help with this issue ?
Since I have installed Lion, the iPhoto library that showed up on the right hand side of iWeb is not showing up.
Has anyone else also faced this issue after installing Lion ? Is there a solution ?

It keeps on showing, "Loading photos".

GetFormulaText show wrong recordselectionformula after installing SP4

I have a very strange problem after installing the sp4 of CR2008:
I am working with the following code to read a recordselection formula of a report:

                FilterController recordFilterController = _reportClientDocument.DataDefController.RecordFilterController;
                string oldRecordFilter = recordFilterController.GetFormulaText();
                string newRecordFilter = string.Empty;
I know that I have many possibilities to get the formula, f.e. the Property freeeditingtext or the filteritems collection. But this method is working fine since month.
I have a report with this selectionformula:
{Belegdruck.EBD.SachGrp}= "6460" and
{Belegdruck.EBD.Esintern} = "0" and
{t_ZAEHLER.zaehler} <= {Belegdruck.EBD.Menge}
And this is what the GetformulaText-function shows me in my program after installing SP4:
(   ( {Belegdruck.EBD.SachGrp} = "6460" AND {Belegdruck.EBD.Esintern} = "0" )   AND   (   NOT {t_ZAEHLER.zaehler} <= {Belegdruck.EBD.Menge} )   )
Unbelievable. As you see, the systems put a NOT before the last if-part. I don't know why, but if I change the operand <= to < or = then everything is working fine and the selectionformula is unchanged.
The cause of problem is definitive SP4 because we did not change the program or the report. I think the reason is the parser. Because if I change the formula to a 'complex' formula which the parser cannot understand, then the formula keeps unchanged. for tests we put Local numberVar dummy := 1; in the beginning of the formula., so that the parser does not pars the formula.
Does anybody know if there is a chance to disable the formula parser or does anybody knows this problem?
I have opened a case at the sap-bo-support. I hope that they can help me.

This is a known issue. Most of my drop down menus showing faded black after installing final cut pro x.. Any ideas?

I recently just installed final cut pro x on my computer. After installing it and rebooting, I noticed that my login picture was faded and orange looking and my drop down menus fonts are thick black text instead of the normal and certain menus are faded and blackened out looking. Any ideas? I have a Macbook pro 2.4GHz core 2 duo with 8GB 1067 MHz DDR3 running Lion 10.7.3 ...
The only thing i can think of is the final cuts pro software that maybe did it because nothing else was installed or downloaded.
Furthermore, is there a good software that Apple suggest as far as cleaning your computer and optimizing it's performance? I DO NOT want Mackeeper or any of that mess.

Appreciate your help Ian and others. I have since uninstalled FCS and reinstalled FCXP only to get the same thing. Loading FCXP stalls at "Looking for Compressor Support". When I first downloaded FCXP from the App store I didn't notice that FCS was being placed in it's own folder. It's not something I did manually. Although moved into it's own folder with FCXP on the same drive. I was not able to open FCS apps. They would load and then "quit unexpectantly". They opened just fine before I downloaded FCXP. Do I need to purchase Compressor so that FCXP recognizes it? It seems this is where it stalls. It doesn't explain however why my computer "FREEZES" while doing this. I am in the process of re-installing Lion to see if this helps, otherwise I am at a complete loss.

HT1423 My imac G5 only recognizes one slot after installing 2x2 GB ram

My mac is a early 2009 model running 10.7 software. I realized it was running pretty slow so i decided to upgrade the ram from 2GB to 4GB. After installing it, i checked my memory and it recognizes one slot and not the other.

I swapped them and it showed that the other slot did not recognize it either.
Its the correct RAM for my computer, I contacted the seller and hopefully they would send me another. Thank you!

I am trying to teach Siri my family, but after I restore from backup of my iphone 4 on Ios 5 GM, I only have 3 labels for the related people field (Spouse,Manager,Assistant). I have checked on a fresh iPhone setup and contact displays labels correctly (mother, father, sister, brother, parent, ect).
Is there something I am missing, starting from scratch is not ideal.

Hi -
Here is the problem - the contact database you are using only support these 3 fields.
This means that on your phone there is a contact that is of you, but that contact is NOT on iPhone's contact list but maybe on google's contacts list, or MS exchange contact list , yahoo's contact list.
Move your contact info into the local iphone or onto iCloud and delete the other on that's outside.
One easy way is to goto your own contact ( IE if you are John Smith ) look for John Smith, and them scroll down and do a Share contact , email this contact to yourself, and then click on edit , and DELETE yourself from your phone.
New goto email and RE-ADD yourself but make sure in it adds it to the iCloud - so make sure your default contact list is your iPhone not your gmail or MS exchange , yyahoo etc, hotmail , etc.
Then goto genernal under settings, set SIRI to your new contact you just added.
Now should be able to have a bunch of relationship fields.
In Siri Say : My wife is x Y
My Brother is y z
etc.
keep going , and then once you're done , you can manaully add other ones by editing your own contact , and add fields like big brother, or little sister.etc.

60GB HD only shows as 31GB after crash?

Hi all,
I had a hard drive have a directory failure. The drive just dissapeared from the desktop one day. It showed in disk utility, but only as a 31.5GB drive when it's actually 60GB.
Neither Disk Utility, Disk Warrior or TechTool could repair the drive, but I recovered all the data (~50GB of it) using Techtool. I then erased the drive using disk utility, and went to copy all the data back, but it reports that there isn't enough space, as Disk Utility only formatted the drive as 31.5GB.
Disk Warrior and Techtool both report no problems with the drive, and the SMART status is OK.
So, how do I format the drive back to it's correct 60GB?

If this is a drive that was added (and not one that
came with the machine originally), some drives have
an additional jumper setting that limits the drive's
apparent capacity to 32GB. This was done in response
the some PC CPUs not being able to address any drive
larger than that.
Check your drive for such a jumper, and remove it if
found.
I'll have a look just in case, but this drive has been in there for a few years happily working at 60GB, so it seems strange that it would drop to 31GB now.

New ZEN (8GB) - Only shows white screen after 1st connection to

Hi Guys?I've just bought my mate a new ZEN ?8GB. I Connected it to my PC and transferred some tunes from Windows Media Player - all went well and the media is now on the player. However, once the transfer had finished and I disconnected the player i noticed the screen was white. Despite resetting the player and updating the firmware the screen is still white!!! My PC still recognizes the player and the media on it! I just can't used the player!!! HELP!

wow you are not alone .... that happened to my new ZEN 8gb. too . i recently bought it and i charged it for the first time..when i turned it on the only thing showing was a white display... i do not know what is the cause... i am waiting for someonte to help us..
