250 gig HD or 160 gig HD?

I want to run alot of tracks with efx, so if I get the 250 gig will it allow me to run more tracks because its got more room? Or will the 160 gig do just as many tracks?

As long as it is 7200rpm and 16MB cache, performance should be similar. The perpendicular drives are a new technology, but I haven't seen any benchmarks of how they work for audio.
I'd say go with the biggest you can afford. You will always need more space, eventually.

  • Purchased, mp3 and Podcasts won't sync to 160 gig classic

I have a six-month-old iPod Classic 160 gig, with about 90 gig of music and 10 gig of video on it. In the last two weeks, though, iTunes tells me that 109 tracks won't sync, with the error message "because they cannot be played on this iPod." Some of them, homegrown movies, I understand, but others are either podcasts downloaded through the iTunes store, purchased music (Sheryl Crow's new album) or recently ripped tracks that I did through iTunes using either 128 AAC or Apple Lossless. Most of the ones I've noticed to date were imported in the last 2-3 weeks, and play fine on iTunes, just not the iPod.
I've tried restoring the iPod and deauthorizing then reauthorizing the computer. Neither works. The next step, I think, would be to rebuild my library, but I have tons of playlists I don't want to recreate (or export/import one-by-one, which is how it looks like have to do it).
I can't help but wonder if this is something related to the latest updates to iTunes, seeing as how it's a such a new phenomenon, and there seem to be several similar posts (although not exactly my situation) in discussions.
I welcome any and all suggestions!

Podcasts are completely independent of Apple and iTunes, they're not from iTunes itself. All iTunes does is list the podcast and tell iTunes where to go and find it if you ask to download it. There are other (non-iTunes) Podcast catchers which do the same thing for other MP3 players. So I think that when listing podcasts on iTunes, Apple/iTunes does not consider it's playablity - because it's a podcast and that's the way of Podcasts! Also, the podcaster has probably not produced these podcasts specifically for the iPod and so has not realised that they don't work on our iPods as you and I expect them to.
You could try sending feedback to the podcast creator, explaining that their Podcasts don't play on the iPod itself. They may +_or may not_+ do something about it.
I've had this problem with both audio and video Podcasts. There is an option to convert selections for the iPod which I have tried for the videos, (click on the top menu and *Advanced/Convert selection for iPod/iPhone*. However, this process takes forever and I gave up trying it. I simply watch them in iTunes. I cannot actually remember what I did for the audio Podcasts, but if I right-click (in Windows that is..) on an audio Podcast, I see the option to *convert selection to AAC*. I don't promise that it will work, but you could give it a try.
As for the Sheryl Crow album , if it was purchased from iTunes, I would expect it to play on the iPod without converting it. The same goes for tracks ripped using iTunes on your PC. I can't explain that, perhaps someone else can?

  • Alpine CDE-103Bt Head Unit and Problem with 160 Gig Ipod Classic

    Hi,
2 weeks agao I brought a new Alpine CDE-103BT Head unit for my car. I have owned one of the old 160 gig classics for the last year and a half and at the time I brough the unit I was told this should all work sweet. Indeed all of the documentation from Alpine, and the Sales person, said this would not be a problem.
Unfortunately from Day one, most times after I received a phone call, while playing my ipod, the Head Unit would givesme an "Error-03" message and stop playing my music. I would then have to unplug my ipod, reset it, and plug it back in. Extremely frustrating.
The people I brought the Head Unit from are trying to say its an Ipod problem, yet I never had any problems with it and after I contacted the Australian Ipod help line they said it all appears to be working correctly. The firmware version I was on when I first tried the ipod on the head unit was 1.1.2. The Alpine manual said it should be 1.1.1 (then again you would expect them to be able to cope with updates) so as a last ditch attempt I downgraded the firmware on my ipod to 1.1.1, but it did not make a difference.
The only other thing I have noticed is that I switch the repeat and shuffle settings off when I plug in the unit, but after I unplug it after an Error-03 the Repaet function has been swtiched to all - I am not sure if this is what is causing the problem.
I am getting pretty frustrated with everything and I was wondering if anyone else has come accross this issue and even me helpful had they found a way to fix it.
If not has anyone had any postive expereinces with Alpine head units?
    Thanks

  • 160 gig Maxtor Harddrive how to install and use it

I just bought a new maxtor HD 160 gig with mac osx 10.4 tiger and i was wondering how do i install it(if i have to change jumpers) and what procedure to transfer off my original 30gig hd to my new 160gig hd. Thank you

Manuals and support and how to guides:
    http://www.apple.com/support/powermac/
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=86790
also links to answered questions like how to clone a drive.
installing a new drive is a "frequently asked" item here so there are lots of threads.
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=715397&tstart=90
SATA usually means no jumpers. Every vendor of drives have their product page, how to install, photo and such.
When a blank unformatted drive is 'discovered' Mac OS X will prompt you if you want to do something. All that does is launch a program that you then have to partition or format the drive yourself, "Disk Utility" which is in
    /Applications/Utilities - launch it now.
    http://www.amug.org/amug-web/html/amug/reviews/articles/firmtek/2eEN4/parti.jpg
Go to Help menu, and there is a Help program, you can search, and there is a PDF manual for Do It Yourself from the above G5 support page.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303645
And Apple has articles on using Disk Utility. Such as this:

  • 160 Gig Not recognizing artists on the ipod

I have a 160 Gig Ipod classic its brand new just started adding music on to it. I have found that when I go to artist selection, there are artists not there to select. So i check that i put them on there. There are saved on my Ipod. Then i go to album select and the artist is there but still not in the artist select location. Its happening for artists, Brian Mcknight, Flo Rida. And yes these are their cds bought and paid for. Any clue?

    Hello blackdragon381
    And welcome to Apple Discussions!
Make sure these artists and tracks are NOT marked as part of a compilation in iTunes. To do this, highlight the tracks in iTunes, right->click on them and choose "Get Info". When the window pops up, head over to the Info tab and make sure there is NO tick mark next to "part of a compilation." Then sync the updated changes to your iPod and see if that helps.

  • 160 gig classic froze as soon as plugged in

I plugged my 160 gig iPod classic into my computer to sync it, and as soon as I plugged it in, it completely froze and remains lit up and frozen. It also will not show up in my iTunes as a plugged-in device. Please help!

I can assure you that Lenovo support is excellent. It's handled by the same original IBM division in Atlanta Georgia. They are there for you 24/7 every day. I would not hesitate to give them a call, as it's also beneficial for them to hear from you. If it's not reported, they won't be aware of it. Many things like this do not show up in the very extensive testing that Lenovo does before releasing a new model. Therefore we are helping them by reporting these issues. Please let us know the outcome of your call....

  • 160 gig classic cover?

Sounds kinda dumb with the problems some of you are having, but I'm trying to find a silicone skin for my 160 gig classic and am out in the boonies. Would appreciate any help you can provide for online locations for finding a good cover to protect my iPod, prefereably silicone, but a hard case would be OK too. I have a leather case that came with it but it's thick and bulky and I'd like something a little more sleek. Thanks.

Games can only be played on the iPod. They cannot be viewed via the TV.

well i know we lose some space when format but neber 36 gigs on 163 !.
can someones help me pls? who had the same problem? thanks

For your new hard drive to be recognised correctly by Windows XP you need to have SP1 installed. For details here:- Link If your CD is pre SP1 and you are doing a fresh install on your new drive you could do a slipstreamed install with SP1 included if you have access to a CD writer. Details of how to create the CD are here:- Link

  • WD 160 gig drive; EIDE issues

According to the WD website, win 2k should recognise a 160 gig drive after the SP is installed.  Unfortunitly this does not seem to be the case on my system.  Does the K7N2 Delta recognise the EIDE mode?  If so, this will help me trouble shoot this problem.  Thank you.

    Hello.
All new boards will detect a 160Gb drive.
Your question, What do you mean?
Is the Drive a SATA drive or IDE drive?
    And your CPU, 2400Mhz
You Mean AMD Athlon XP2400+, that is only 2000Mhz.
Unless you have over clocked it.

  • Book on CD to I-Pod , what length of time will the I-Pod classic 160 gig hold aprox ?

so we're thinking about loosing the required storage space for book on CD purchases and converting them to I-pad . I have no idea what 160 GB of space equates to hours of storage … most titles are +/- 6 hrs listening time some are 14 hrs or more … so what is aprox. time available in 160 gig ??
sorry fairly new to this stuff

    GTroyer wrote:

My 160GB Pod currently has 118GB of music in various formats and bit rates. That music will play for 58 days.
Even without knowing what Bit Rate you are using (the higher the Bit Rate, the more space each minute of audio uses for storage), is approximately 58 days enough storage time for you?

  • HOW MUCH MUSIC FILES/FOLDERS CAN A 160 GIG HD HOLD

I was just wondering because I need to buy a new HD and I cant really afford something thats alot of doe, so i was looking at the Lacie extreme 160 gig. I just want to know how much cant it hold.

It can hold a bit less than 160 gigs.
If a typical project of yours is about 10 gigs, that's sixteen songs.
If a typical project of yours is about 1.6 gigs, that's 100 songs.
Seriously, no-one can answer this but you.

  • Transfering 80 Gig to 160 Gig with Bootcamp (XP) on 80 gig (partitioned)

I'm trying to transfer my 80 gig 3/5 osx and 2/5 XP bootcamped system over to my 160 gig.
Are the partitions going to be stuck to it's portioned or can i adjust it once i have more space. Or will it just divide itself on the drive? ORRRRRR will it just do OSX.
Anything I need to know before I do this, I want all the information without me installing any programs. I want the whole thing over on 160 gig , OSX and XP.
    Thanks
    black macbook 2 gig ram

If you don't have an external drive you will need an enclosure like thit to put the new drive while you clone it. The nice thing is when you are through just put the old drive in the enclosure and you have an extra hard drive.

  • Ipod 160 Gig Question

I have a 160 gig Ipod classic and have encountered a new problem since the latest version of Itunes. I listen to a lot of audio books and they used to play one cd to the next.
Now the Ipod stops after each chapter and I have to manually find the next cd and start it. Is there a way to have the IPOD play one CD to the next like it used to?

Solved the problem, some how the little loop button or repeat all was deselected on the Ipod classic. Now everything is working normally again. I'm glad it was a simple fix. Thanks for your input.
