2500 WLC Sales hold

Hi,
I've had a 2500 WLC ( and some 3500 AP's) on order for about a month now, but I am being told they are on Sales Hold. When asked our CAM sais it's due to being a new product and the product manager must release the hold.
I don't get this and have a few customers now interested in a demo. What's up with this and are they sellig in the US and not Canada?
Thanks in advance,
Bob James

As per the datasheet I'd say 10/100/1000....

  • Is it possible to use a 5500 WLC and a 2500 WLC as failover?

I am curious to know if there are any technical issues with this design. The 5500 WLC would be the primary and 2500 WLC would be the secondary. The only need for the secondary would be in the event of failure of the primary, and support needs when doing maintenance such as code upgrades.
We would use the same version of code on each controller and apply the necessary amount of AP licenses on each. The controllers would have identical configurations and host multiple SSID's, including offering guest services. Does the 2500 support guest network services?

Yeah, believe the 2500 only does multicast-multicast mode.  Which isn't that big of a deal usually.  MM being the preferred method.
the 2504 also has that 300M backplane limitation.  SO if you are going to use the 2504 I would recommend HREAP so you don't have to worry about that.
    Not supported on 2504.
    •Support for wired guest access.
•Cisco 2500 Series Controller cannot be configured as an auto anchor controller. However you can configure it as a foreign controller.
    •Supports only multicast-multicast mode.
    •Bandwidth Contract feature is unsupported.
•Access points plugged directly into the WLC.

  • 2500 WLC, attach AP?

    Hi,
i was checking the documentation on the 2500 WLAN controller... it states "The Power over Ethernet (PoE) ports on the Cisco 2500 Series Wireless Controller will not support directly attached APs." ... if that is true, what are those PoE ports good for?????
i have a scenario with just two APs (for now) the 2500 would be perfect IF i could plug the APs directly into the WLC... any plans to support that? Or is just an error in the documentation?
    Regards,
    Michael

    Hi Michael,
We don't use any 2500 series WLC's so I can't test this for you,
but this doc does indicate a different scenario than the one you saw
    Cisco 2500 Series Controller
The Cisco 2500 Series Wireless Controller works in conjunction with Cisco lightweight access points and the Cisco Wireless Control System (WCS) to provide system-wide wireless LAN functions. As a component of the Cisco Unified Wireless Network (CUWN), the Cisco 2500 Series controller provides real-time communication between a wireless access points and other devices to deliver centralized security policies, guest access, wireless intrusion prevention system (wIPS), context-aware (location), RF management, quality of services for mobility services such as voice and video, and OEAP support for the teleworker solution.
Cisco 2500 Series Wireless Controllers support up to 50 lightweight access points in increments of 5 and 25 access points with a minimum of 5 access points. The Cisco 2504 Wireless Controller comes with four 4 Giga bit Ethernet ports, two of which can provide power directly to Cisco lightweight access points.

  • 2500 WLC Primary DHCP Server

    Hello,
If I set a primary DHCP server in the interface configuration, or if I override DHCP in the WLAN Configuration.
Which interface does the WLC use to try and connect to the DHCP on behalf of the wireless clients?
    IF
    A) The dhcp server is not on any of the configured subnets.
    B) The DHCP server is on a different interface's subnet.
Sent from Cisco Technical Support iPad App

    Hello Stuart,
As per your query i can propose the following solution-
The interface will be Management interface
    IF
    A) The dhcp server is not on any of the configured subnets.
    B) The DHCP server is on a different interface's subnet.
For more information you can go through the link-

  • Cisco 2500 WLC with LAP1041N

    hello there,
we are trying to set up mesh network using 2500 controller and 1041n controller based AP.
Can someone tell me if the AP will support mesh network?
Can 1041N be set as root AP? Do i need 1300 series AP?

Can someone tell me if the AP will support mesh network?
Yes.   Mesh networking employs Cisco Aironet 1500 Series outdoor mesh access points and indoor mesh access points (Cisco Aironet 1040, 1130, 1140, 1240, 1250, 1260, 3500e, and 3500i series access points) along with the Cisco Wireless LAN Controller, and Cisco Wireless Control System (WCS) to provide scalable, central management, and mobility between indoor and outdoor deployments. Control and Provisioning of Wireless Access Points (CAPWAP) protocol manages the connection of mesh access points to the network.

  • Splash Page in WLC 2500 Series

Can someone tell me if there is Splash Page feature in the 2500 WLC ? I cannot find any Cisco document which says it has that feature ?

    Yes, Its available.
Here is a link that points to a configuration guide for a wlc 2500, 7.5.

  • Need MIBs for Cisco 2500 Series WLC

    Hi,
I need the MIBs for Cisco 2500 WLC.
I have it for 5508 WLC. Does it works same for 2500 WLC too ?
    Regards

they should be very similar.  There would be more trees available for the 5508 over the 2504.
You can get the MIBS for the 2504 from the Software downloads section of CCO.

  • Can't ping, telnet, SSH or find APs in ARP, but associated to WLC & has clients

    Hi All,
I have an interesting problem. I have a Cisco 2504 WLC, and six Access Points that are associated to it.  I can reach 4 of the access points, which are connected to Cisco 300 POE switches, but the other 2 I cannot ping, telnet, SSH or find in the ARP table on the network.  However, they are both associated to the WLC and as far as I can tell, they have clients associated to them.  If I reboot them from the WLC, they find their way back to the correct WLC, and the WLC sees them in CDP, but I still can't access them in any way.
The two problem APs appear to be connected to ports 3 & 4 on the WLC, which are the POE ports. I read some documentation that says that those ports don't support Access Points but basically that you can still connect them and have it work, but don't expect any help from Cisco if you run into problems.  I've confirmed that POE is being supplied in the port configs, and I have other sites with WLC's that are configured identically with APs on ports 3 & 4 that are up and not having any issues.
Wondering if anyone has had similar issues and if so, can you shed any light on this strange behavior?
    Thanks.

  • How to join the AP to the WLC

    Hi All,
I am new to Cisco wireless solution and would like to ask how to add the AP to the WLC properly. All Cisco 1041 and Cisco 2500 WLC are new. I connect those AP and WLC to the switch without any VLAN tag and the AP can gain the IP address from our DHCP correctly. However, the AP 1041 could not join the WLC successfully. Here is the log. I really do not have any idea about that and hope someone can help. Many thanks.
    WLC: Cisco 2500
    IP Address: 192.168.1.225
    version: 7.4.100.0
    AP: 1041
    IP Address (DHCP): 192.168.1.195
    version: 15.2(2)JB
I also checked the following item.
    - WLC already enable Accept Manufactured Installed Certificate (MIC) in WLC -> Security -> AP Policy
    - WLC can ping AP and vice versa
    - WLC has 5 AP license
    - All configuration are default setting
    - Tried to issued join command in AP manually but no luck "lwapp ap controller ip add 192.168.1.225"

  • 2500 series support mobility groups?

Do you know if the new 2500 series controller supports things like mobility groups?  Could I use 2 of these and do inter-controller roaming.
Also do you know if this would work with a 2106 controller and a 2505 controller or are they 2 completely independent controllers only knowing about their own APs??

    Hi smailmilak,
no mobility and roaming is not the same. You need for roaming between controllers a mobility configuration.
If you have only one 2500 WLC and 25 or more or less AP roaming between the AP on the one WLC will work well.
    This calls Intra-Controller roaming
If you have 2 or more WLCs you need a proper mobility config for roaming between APs located on differen WLC.
    This Calls Inter-Controller roaming.

So your help is needed, please

    Salam Samer,
I have no idea about the HP product itself. But you can always check the datasheet of the product (2500 WLC) and compare the specs with the HP one.
Here is the datasheet of the 2500 WLC: http://goo.gl/dSLZbp
The price is not mentioned in the datasheet. That can be a basic element to decide the product sometimes.

  • WLC 2504 Setup

Presently, in my network, I have 3 SSIDs configured on my WLC. I have (and I know this is definitely not a BP) physically segmented these wireless networks using the available ports on the WLC.
I have a 2970G switch that is lying around that I figured I would put to good use here. I've attached a network diagram for what I am proposing to do and wanted to see if people thought this would work. Basically, if I have my WLC tagging all the traffic with the VLAN it belongs to, shouldn't the switch be able to handle sending it out the right port? Can I get away with this on an L2 switch or do I need an L3 switch?

#with lag disabled, think of 2500 WLC as L2 switch but not the real switch where all vlans can be passed via multiple uplink trunks. in wlc, the vlan interface mapped to physical interface will also act as uplink for those vlans and no other physical interface on wlc can use it. With lag enabled all vlans are available on that bundled ports which is similar to the normal switch however wLC can't support two different bundle going out.
#WLCs are not multihomed switch that can do multiple uplinks via trunks, it is an edge device, it forwards wireless traffic received from AP via Management interface back to AP using the same management interface for wireless traffic and forwards/receives the wired packet via the appropriate physical port that has the vlan mappings and forwards to Management interface destined for wireless.
#on 2500, if lag not used, Either all interface is mapped to one physical port and use this port as uplink or can multiple vlan(s) per physical port and that physical port will act as uplink for those vlans, we cannot map one vlan to more than one primary interface(and an optional backup) physical interface on wlc.
#this setup works if you've 3 dynamic interface created vlan-14,45,21 and mapped to port 1 or each interface mapped to separate physical port, provided it require one on one trunk connection to the switch from wlc.
#on switch side configure trunk port to allow these vlans based on the physical connection.
#try lag, 2500 WLC support lag from 7.4.

  • Run Aperture and iPhoto on an external drive and edit from laptop?

Can I run iphoto and Aperture on an external hard drive, like a file server?  Can I store pics on the external hard drive and edit using iphoto or aperture on the external hard drive from a laptop ?  How do I make this work?
    HELP!  I'm maxed out!

    Hello Laura,
what is it, that you want to achieve?
Move the Aperture Library to an external drive to free space on your laptop?
or do you want to share your Aperture Libray between your machines and access it in parallel on a network volume?
The option "1" is easy to achieve, the option "2" is not supported by Aperture; Aperture (and iPhoto) are single User programs, see this:
Aperture: Use locally mounted Mac OS X Extended volumes for your Aperture library:http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3252
To move your library (or parts of your library) to an external drive you have two options:
move the complete libary using the finder to a local, external, MacOSX formatted drive,
or turn your library into a "referenced" library: relocate the master image files to the external drive, but keep  the Library itself (much smaller now) on your laptop. This way you can browse your images and rate them, use them as screensaver, even if the external drive is not connected.
    Regards
    Léonie
P.S. the same (*** grano salis) holds for iPhoto; you can move the library, or your libraries, to an external drive using the Finder; you can make the iPhoto Library referenced, but referenced libraries are much better supported in Aperture, for Aperture has been designed in espacially to support huge, distributed libraries - in iPhoto I found it it safer to have several smaller libraries than to have one huge, referenced library - that was one of  the reasons I moved from iPhoto to Aperture.

  • ISE Guest Portal redirection not working

I have built a lab at home. I have a Win2008 Server for AD/DNS, ISE 1.2 (VM trial), a 3560-cg switch, 2500 WLC and 2602i AP. I have configured everything as per the documentations online. My issue is that when I connect to the open SSID, it gets connected and has the dns server populated as well, but the redirection never takes place. I can search for google or cnn.com but it just stays at looking up host or something. However, if i take the redirect URL from the WLC and then do it on the browser, it does go to the guest portal. Let me know what issues I can see and if there is any other information I can provide.

    Issue resolved.
Since my lab environment didnt have access to the internet and hence dns servers 8.8.8.8 would not resolve any public ips. But when an address is resolvable by a dns then it redirects nicely. For test I created a dns entry on the dns server itself and tested it.
