2504 and Airplay

Hello All,
I've got a large residential site which has a 2504 and has a couple of AppleTV and Airport Expresses.  THe 2504 is running image 7.4.100.0 which has the mDNS features.  I have been able to get the AppleTV's working no problem you can airplay from an iphone or ipad and all is good however the Airport expresses are another story. You can see them in the drop down list on you iphone or ipad and select as a stream location but I get no audio??? Audio to the Apple TV's work fine.
Config is
-1 single Vlan
- enabled IGMP
- enabled Multicasting (used a random value of 239.255.1.64)
- set the MDNS profile with all Apple related services
- Applied the mDNS profile to the management interface and the wlan interface.
- MLD snooping also enabled.
Another potential symptom is that I cannot connect to the Airport expresses with the airport utility over the wifi?
I thought if I got the Airplay working to the AppleTV's it would be the same for hte Airport expresses.
Any ideas?  I've followed all the guides but I'm obviously missing something.
Thanks in advance
David

Hi All
I am also facing the same issue and I using 7.4.121.0. Did we manage to find a solution yet?
Thanks

    Hello,
we have a smal problem with a lenovo dockingstation type 2504 and a r60 laptop.
Made some performance test for oure fileserver.
Found out, if i use dockingsstation, i get poor performance.
If i use the r60 without dockingstation, lan performance is realy good.
    Some idea why?
    How could it be?
    Performance profile is max.
Use battrie in r60, dockingstation with power supply.
    Big thanks

Ok, so I was able to video chat with Defcom last night by turning on my firewall and also by changing iChat/AIM to logon through port 334. I still cannot video chat with appleutest01. Any other ideas?

  • Best practices for network design on WLC 2504 and 5508

    Dear all:
I'm looking for some recommendations on WLC 2504 and 5508 about the the following:
Maximum amount of AP per port
The scenario when to use all ports in both WLC
Maximum number of clients(users) per port
Bandwidth comsumption of  management vs data in order to assign one port for management
    I've just found this:
Cisco 5508 controllers have eight Gigabit Ethernet distribution system ports, through which the controller can manage multiple access points. The 5508-12, 5508-25, 5508-50, 5508-100, and 5508-250 models allow a total of 12, 25, 50, 100, or 250 access points to join the controller. Cisco 5508 controllers have no restrictions on the number of access points per port. However, Cisco recommends using link aggregation (LAG) or configuring dynamic AP-manager interfaces on each Gigabit Ethernet port to automatically balance the load. If more than 100 access points are connected to the 5500 series controller, make sure that more than one gigabit Ethernet interface is connected to the upstream switch.

    Thanks for your help.

This is an old document.  5508 can now support up to 500 APs if you run firmware 7.X.  2504 can support up to 75 APs if you run firmware 7.4.X.
I'm looking for some recommendations on WLC 2504 and 5508 about the the following:
Best practice and recommendation is to LAG all ports so you will be able to form a link redundancy.  If one link goes down, you have other link to push traffic.

  • Why is the airdrop and airplay option not showing in my iphone 4s ?

airdrop and airplay option not showing

That link is addressing only iOS 7 in general, not the iPhone 4S specifically. I have already answered your question here: airdrop and airplay option not showing iPhone 4S, iOS 7.1.2. It is the same answer as what wjosten have provided in this post. Air Drop is compatible with iPhone 5 and later.

  • Airport and Airplay on PC

The airplay Icon on my PC goes on and off... I have an airport express. Is there something to do ?
When I try to make an update on my PC, it says that the windows version is to old... but it uses to work... and it works great with my Ipod.
I have an error message that says -42110 ?

    Hi gilbertpa,
If the AirPlay icon is only appearing intermittantly, you may find the following article useful:

  • Flixster and AirPlay

Ive been trying to airplay my UV films from the Flixster app on my iPad 4 to my new ATV3. However when i watch a film only the audio is sent to the TV, and the video keeps playing on the iPad. Same happens when i try to watch films through the Blinkbox app as well.
Is there anyway to sort this so the video airplays on the TV as well?

    Hey slimnickyy,
Thanks for the question. After reviewing your post, it sounds like you are having difficulty with AirPlay. I would recommend that you read this article, it may be able to help you resolve or isolate the issue.

  • Airplay mirroring and airplay speakers

I would like to set up airplay mirroring so that audio gets directed to my airplay speakers and the images to the TV.
    LIke this:
    iPhone-->ATV-->Airplay speakers
I can airplay audio through the phone directly to the speakers, and I can also select speakers on the ATV and airplay audio from ATV apps directly to those speakers.. I can also airplay audio only from the iPhone through the ATV to the speakers, as long as I'm not mirroring.
However when I turn on mirroring, the audio always goes right to the TV and not to the speakers. I was told that what I'm trying do cannot be done with Mirroring. Is this right? Has anyone got this setup to work?
Would be nice if I can stream shows from a browser to the ATV and then audio to the Airplay speakers. So far I have not been able to get that to work.
    Help or advice appreciated, thanks!
    Sam

For what it's worth, I managed a workaround with VLC and Airfoil to mirror a video to Apple TV and send the audio to AirPlay speakers.   However, there's still the 2 second delay issue for most other sources, like Chrome and games.
It seems what's missing is a way on the Apple TV to redirect the audio to an AirPlay source while mirroring (holding down select does nothing in this mode, unlike Netflix or Movies where it brings up a source selection menu).  It would be SO COOL if this was implemented in a future ATV update - for all of us with projectors out there.

  • Can I find a free movie site in Safari and airplay it to Apple TV?.

I am thinking of buying a Apple TV, but wwas wondering if it is possible to use a free movie site from Safari and airplay or mirror it to Apple TV?. I have a original ipad and a iPad mini. I am also buying a iPhone 5s.

The original iPad does not have mirroring capability, the mini and 5S would.
Keep in mind that the iPad mini won't fill the screen when mirrored as it's display is 4:3, whereas the iPhone 5S has the same aspect ratio as your HDTV (16:9)
If using basic airplay on any of the IOS devices, the website would need to be enabled.

  • Cisco WLC 2504 and ways to authenticate users

    Hi All,
What is the ways to make user authenticate to WLC 2504 and what is the best and simple way and what is the differences btw each method _i mean for example need radius server or something else to be exist_ ?
and any one can give me case study for this issue
System consist of Cisco 2504 and Cisco LAP 1140
    Thanks

To implement radius based authentication is the best practice for the small & enterprise environment.
    Information About RADIUS
Remote Authentication Dial-In User Service (RADIUS) is a client/server protocol that provides centralized security for users attempting to gain management access to a network. It serves as a backend database similar to local and TACACS+ and provides authentication and accounting services:
•Authentication—The process of verifying users when they attempt to log into the controller.
Users must enter a valid username and password in order for the controller to authenticate users to the RADIUS server. If multiple databases are configured, you can specify the sequence in which the backend database must be tired.
•Accounting—The process of recording user actions and changes.
Whenever a user successfully executes an action, the RADIUS accounting server logs the changed attributes, the user ID of the person who made the change, the remote host where the user is logged in, the date and time when the command was executed, the authorization level of the user, and a description of the action performed and the values provided. If the RADIUS accounting server becomes unreachable, users are able to continue their sessions uninterrupted.
RADIUS uses User Datagram Protocol (UDP) for its transport. It maintains a database and listens on UDP port 1812 for incoming authentication requests and UDP port 1813 for incoming accounting requests. The controller, which requires access control, acts as the client and requests AAA services from the server. The traffic between the controller and the server is encrypted by an algorithm defined in the protocol and a shared secret key configured on both devices.
You can configure multiple RADIUS accounting and authentication servers. For example, you may want to have one central RADIUS authentication server but several RADIUS accounting servers in different regions. If you configure multiple servers of the same type and the first one fails or becomes unreachable, the controller automatically tries the second one, then the third one if necessary, and so on.

I use a Gear4 series 1 wireless speaker to stream music to my lounge. I have just bought a Gear4 series 3 speaker to do the same to my dining room but after upgrading Itunes the Airplay logo has vanished so nothing works. • Using bluetooth and airplay together.

It appears from documents in Support that you have to disable BT to use Airplay. I'm hoping someone here can give me an explaination or even a work around . I have the 4S, and just bought AppleTV. I was hoping to stream some workout videos to the AppleTV via Airplay and use BT earphones, so I wouldn't disturb the wife. Seems like BT and Airplay would be a logical pairing (so to speak). This is greatly disappointing. I have no problems using BT or Airplay on their own...just not together.....
    Thanks

Lets try to break it down.
You are Using Airplay from an iPhone4s to an Apple Tv. In essence you are sending both video and audio to the Apple Tv. Which means the iPhone has no audio playing.  Since there is no audio playing on the iPhone, there is nothing that can be sent to the BT Earphones.
Basically what you are attempting to do is Airplay to 2 devices simultaneously: Airplay Audio to the headphones via BT, and Airplay video to the Apple Tv via Wifi.
    This unfortunately cannot be done.
This is in fact completely unrelated to the cutting out of BT with a car stereo.  However, if there is something fundamentally wrong with the iPhone 6's bluetooth it may be a good idea to take it into an Apple store for Diagnostics.
I can play music, and App audio (from a navi App) and then answer calls without the iPhone ever un-pairing with the car. 4 or 5 hour road trips, and the music plays, The navi instructions cut in when necessary, and all audio is cut when a call comes in.
Mazda 3 Connect Media Center, and iPhone 6.

  • Conflict between Bonjour service and Airplay!!

Airplay seems to dissappear, seemingly at random, on my Denon 2312ci AVR connected to my LAN through Netgear WNDR3800.  I also have an iPhone and an iPad.
However, I have found a pattern and a possible sorce of the problem.
If the AVR is initialized on the LAN after Bonjour has started up on my Windows 7 PC, then everything works as it is supposed to.  The AVR initialization can be done by switching to or from DHCP on the AVR.  It doesn't matter.  Airplay is available in iTunes, and on my iOS devices.
However, if Bonjour is started after the AVR is on the LAN, like if I reboot my PC, then Airplay disappears from all 3 (iTunes and my 2 iOS devices)!!  The AVR is on the LAN, can be pinged, can be controlled via the browser on the PC, can stream internet radio and from my media server on the LAN.  If I stop the Bonjour service on the PC, Airplay reappears on my iOS devices (but not iTunes, which depends on Bonjour).
Uninstalling iTunes and Bonjour and reinstalling from the latest download from Apple does not help.  As soon as Bonjour loads on my PC,and the AVR is already on the LAN from before, Airplay on the AVR gets disabled!!  If I stop Bonjour manually or shutdown my PC, Airplay shows up on my iPhone and iPad.
My solution now: I have changed Bonjour to not load up automatically. Now, Airplay is available on my iOS devices (except iTunes).  When I need to run iTunes, I start Bonjour manually, run iTunes.  Airplay is disabled during this time.  When I'm done with iTunes, I close iTunes and shut down Bonjour.  Airplay is now available on my iOS devices.
It is a kludge, but it is a workaround.
I googled Netgear and Airplay and someone suggested setting the RIP direction to "Both" and RIP version to "RIP_1" but that has not fixed the problem.
Anyway, I am at my wits end.  Bonjour (and Airplay) is happy if the AVR is initialized on the LAN while Bonjour is running.  How do I make Bonjour cooperate with my 2312ci when the AVR is already initialized on the LAN and Bonjour starts up?
    Aloke

I have recently had the Airplay disappearing problem with a Pioneer SCLX56 AV Amp. I tried disabling the Bojour Print Services on my Windows 8 machine and magically the airplay icon for the amp reappears.
The funny thing is that I have 3 airplay destinations, an airport express, apple tv and the amp and only the amp disappears when I turn on Bonjour on the computer, so it suggests to me that Apple's implimentation of Airplay on their devices is different to the implimentation used by 3rd party manufacturers.
Thanks to you all for starting this thread and following the problem through - it's saved a lot of diagnosis.

  • I have ipad3 and airplay icon is not seen

I have an ipad3 andi can;'t seem to find the airplay icon in the control center. When i play hte you tube that time also i cant see it.

In my iPad3, I can see the airplay icon at home where I have an Apple TV and AirPlay enabled speakers.  It is in the control panel that comes up by swiping upwards from the bottom of the iPad.
However, at work where there are no airplay enabled devices, the airplay icon is not visible and the space it normally occupies in the control panel is blank.  Therefore, I believe the iPad has to receive the signal from an airplay device in order for the airplay icon to be visible in the control panel.
    I hope this helps.

  • I want to know if AirDrop and AirPlay can work on an iPhone 4S

I want to know if AirDrop and AirPlay can work on an iPhone 4S

I have had the same issue with VERY rapid battery drain, measured to the point of losing 2-3% post-calibration charge every 5 minutes at idle (no apps running, and screen off), plus the extreme heat generated. I was even losing about 1% charge every 15 mins while plugged into an Apple iPad USB charger.
I have been one-by-one disabling groups of services, and enabling parts of them in order to correct this. I have after days of trial and error found that (at least in my case), that nothing really made a significant difference until I turned off contact sync for iCloud, with all other iCloud services are on using the defaults.
I have left on Siri, all push (email and otherwise), notification, and location services, WiFi, bluetooth, and have brightness set to a comfortable 50% with auto-brightness on. (FYI: My other 5 emails are all set up as Active Sync)
In working through this process of elimination, I have now reduced my battery consumption to less than 1% battery charge loss every 30 minutes, and hope that it may help you as well.
Now I understand that everyone's setup and experience will be different, but this has been 3 days of initially freaking out and then finally getting down to methodical testing in order to avoid possibly having to return a faulty phone with extreme overheating and battery problems. I'm not sure what the issue may be, but hope that it's just a bug, but until it's all fixed, I can live without iCloud contact sync.
